For the first one you know that the locals believe gongs are a connection between mortals and the supernatural world, and sounding a wayside gong symbolizes announcing one’s arrival.
And on the second one Bones realizes that pilgrims in Dtang Ma often leave votive offerings for the kami.He also remembers that rice is a favored food of the kami.

Balinor's words:
Actually, I thought (or maybe assumed wrongly) we had climbed to this mountain for days and cross hazards before getting to this point.
So I had not considered going back to town. Now, if there is a rice village a block away, on the other side of this shrine, I am there with you. :-)

You think that the granola should be ok in place of the rice. Does anyone try to ring the gong? If so i need a Perform (percussion instruments) check or another Perform check.
Bones cringes from the sound of a poorly struck hammer on metal, "Arrg, Have you never held a hammer before this is how you do it!" The dwarf takes and swing the mallet at the gong saying a quick prayer for guidance.
As the gong begins ringing, Balinor tries to hide how badly he cringes at the initial bad ringing. After Bones tries, Balinor states, "That's not bad. I had no idea dwarves were experts with gongs."
Bones puffs up "Well, when it comes to hitting metal with hammers dwarfs excel at that. And stone work. oh, and ale, drinking ale and beer. After this mission I'd be glade to demonstrate that last one." The dwarf chuckles with the last bit.

Omar and Hugh do thier best but arent able to make a good ring then Bones steps up and the tone from the gong puts you all at ease. A divine tune you might say.
After a tough hike up a narrow trail along the face of the mountain, the Pilgrim’s Path suddenly ends. A cylindrical portion of the mountainous landscape—one hundred and fifty feet in diameter—is simply missing. An old milestone still points southwest toward the strangely symmetrical crater, but
an arrow engraved in the cliff face points west toward a series of water-slicked steps carved into the unnatural cliff.

Tanbaru wails quietly and his tiny body shakes in disgust as he sees what is left of his former ward. Tanbaru says, “It was here! This is the place where my ward, my path, was sundered.”

Bones, huge and Balinor know that only magic could create such a perfectly cylindrical cavity in the mountainside. and notices that the narrow steps are the result of both centuries of natural erosion and the use of rock-cutting tools.
How do you plan on getting down? It does look slick but climbable and you can attempt to use the stairs. There are also gaps and a ledge you can try to go down.
Balinor looks through his pack before looking sheepishly up as his companions and saying, "Oh, that's right, my rope is still hanging down from a cliff in..." after a thoughtful pause, "Cheliax. I seem to have forgotten to buy another...Sorry..."

Omar will secure his rope to the top of the near side to assist the climb down.
Bring the other ropes, as we may need them to climb back out again.
Omar is +0 on climb checks, so even with take-10 that is about the best he can do unless he sings...adding only +1. I am not sure if the rope will make the climbs (down or back up) easy enough without falling
Unless one of you has better ideas or way to help us down safely, I am willing to give it a try.
Trying to use the rope to rappel down the cliff, in a stairs/corner if possible, he will start the descent.

You slowly make your way down one side and up the other.
Three sets of stairs lead up to a ten-foot-high stone platform surrounding this courtyard on three sides. Several buildings stand upon the platform, some of built directly into the mountain face.
Perception checks and let me know what way you want to go.
"Right sounds right," Balinor quips. After noticing no one laughed at his attempt at humor, he moves to the front of the group muttering, "Yeah, I'm not funny."

You notice that the most recent weapon marks are from spears and arrows, though no arrowheads are present. There is also a curious set of burn marks on the ground. Know arcana
You head right. The walls and columns of this small building are covered in carvings of mythological scenes. Three sitting pillows of slightly different sizes lie on the floor.Perception or Survival Checks
