Reesa |
Yep, that sounds quite up and down. What are you going to do with your grippli? I can wait to see froggie Hmm in action.
That is crappy that your table ended up by a live microphone being used. I bet your voice is gone today!
Daeris Moonhunter |
I've been in a situation like that. New cons are fraught with issues, takes a few years of experience before they work out the bugs. But good job on doing your part to spread the awareness and bring some new people into the fold!
Daeris Moonhunter |
Soo... I take it Shaine is not able to or at least not going to answer the question about whether killing creatures in this place has a chance to effect the future? It would be kind of an obvious concern, I would think...
GM Hmm |
Shaine is not always the most transparent of speakers, and this special gives no leisurely Q&A time.
GM Fiat: Multi-table specials are combat fests. Treat it like the temporal magic will not cause paradoxes if you need to kill a hostile creature to defeat it.
So, everyone... apologies for the super slow start. Between the Convention that lacked wi-fi, a previously scheduled GM slot on Sunday and my kid's last minute prep for first day of school, I wasn't able to do my normal efficient pacing and I haven't slung you into combat yet.
To keep things moving... Can we have a standard marching order? Also, how do you want to handle stealthing ahead in the future? I can see the appeal of getting information before you land right in combat, but I also want to launch you into the various combats that you must face in a fairly timely manner so that we can get through everything.
In situations like this, would you prefer that I roll you into combat but give you a surprise round to position? Or allow Daeris's scouting to unfold naturally if you think you can all post fairly quickly?
Hmm
Reesa |
Daeris is the scout master. If she wants to move ahead and scout at most opportunities, that's good with me. But if you want to start combat that's good with me too.
Daeris and her pet should obviously be first. Then how about Cac, then Ely, then Reesa, Sparkle, then Balon? Please speak up if anyone prefers a different spot.

Daeris and I seem to be the frontliners, so it should be Daeris scouting ahead (with Guen), with me next. I can't speak for anyone else.

I read your post right after I posted mine, so now I feel silly for suggesting we try to stealth past! :P I'm more than willing to get into a fight, so I'm okay with a stealth check to get a surprise round and some pre-combat knowledge checks. However, does "unfold naturally" mean things like stealth checks to sneak past? I'm okay with combat being inevitable and just rolling in.
Also, I only just realized that I don't have any of those quick reference fields filled out! I'll fix that today.
Sparkle-Weave |
It can be tricky to get the balance right between moving forward and not accidentally railroading the PCs into undesired action.
I set up a standard marching order for us on slide 1.
It's got Daeris and pet out front to scout.
Then the bulk of the group has Balon and Ely in front with Cacumattus and Reesa in the middle with Sparkle-Weave and Orin pulling up the rear.
Feel free to rearrange if anybody would prefer different.
My vote for our standard operation procedure would be to have Daeris scout just a little ahead and then we set up to surprise whatever horrible creature awaits. That way we've got a nice standard procedure for making moving things forward easy.
I am open for other possibilities as well. Also since I'm using a star to replay rather than playing fresh feel free to ignore my vote.
GM Hmm |
Thanks for the marching order! I normally would allow things to unfold naturally, but this is a timed special and I don't want the group to miss any critical opportunities to score points and make their victories!
There will be opportunities for diplomacy, but there are also some combats that will be inevitable. I'm trying to strike a balance here. Regarding knowledge checks... I will try to tier them better in the future. Meanwhile, if you make the DC by more, I'll give you more information as we go.
Hmm

So on slides, all I can do consistently is make Reesa twice her size. Would
Someone move her up 25' to the square just south and west of Daeris? Thanks.
Moved you! I don't know if it's just technical issues you're having, but I find it easiest to move the tokens by zooming in a lot on my phone. If you still can't get it to work, I'm sure we'll be happy to move you around as you like. c:
Reesa |
I'm just terrible when posting from my phone. Hmm and others have been so patient trying to show me, but I always end up doing something goofy like that.
Thanks for moving me, lol.
Daeris Moonhunter |
Sorry if I messed up your post, Hmm! I did mention Daeris would be using stealth, but that was a very nice roll. =)
Also, I will be looking for opportunities to have Daeris set traps of her own. This would have been a good time to try it, if I could have had her stealth in and set one and then fall back before everyone started moving in. The traps are new, so I'm not really used to planning for them yet.
This is my first time to run in a party with a vigilante. What is the usual convention? We just accept that this is some random other person in costume and don't bother wondering what happened to Ely? I couldn't hit that perception roll even with a 20, but it seems strange to not acknowledge that a party member disappeared and another one joined us.
Ely Thorn Kett |
Honestly, I haven't quite figured out how the dual identity works in PFS? I played mostly with the same group throughout the playtest, so there was some shared history and also goofs about having a bunch of other vigilantes in the party.
Ultimately, I think it's just up to you as a player whether your character would put much thought into or not. Would you accept that Ely disappeared in the shuffle of Pathfinders or not? Would you confront The Salty Kraken about it? And because the consequences for revealing my identity are entirely within the fiction (and doesn't carry any sort of mechanical basis), it's up to me whether I tell you all or not, based on my character and our individual or group interactions.
Cacumattus Diuberr |
Marching order looks good; Cacumattus is happy to just use his stealth to get that elusive sneak attack damage in.
Regarding the vigilante, I'm happy to play it as the classic "Oh hey Clark, where've you been, Superman just left" thing if you like. I'm not sure what Cacumattus would've done if he'd rolled that 2 higher on Perception; I'd probably have asked what the Wisdom DC for not blabbing it to everyone was ;-)
Doom Girl |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
When Doom Girl appears, usually my party does a double-take. "Where did YOU come from?" "Did Doris go back to Accounting?" They LOVE acting out that bit. I love the dual identity of my masked avenger swashbuckler, especially since Doom Girl speaks in the pompous diction of Thor: "Begone, you scurrilous cur!" and Doris from Accounting sounds like she's from the Bronx: "Ooh, this is all so much more exciting than inventory!" I thought about going Liberty's Edge with Doom Girl, but Doris decided that the Exchange made a better cover story.
:)
Hmm
Daeris Moonhunter |
Fortunately, with Ely being human, Daeris probably won't worry overmuch. She told everyone to stay behind her and if they failed to do that, it's on them. My goody-goody rogue would probably be arranging the search party right about now to be sure we didn't leave her in the past. XD
Now what about Guen though? I assume that a costume change wouldn't actually alter her scent enough to fool the cat and she did sniff all of you earlier. Of course, she won't tattle on you but seeing her not treat you like a new person might tip Daeris off a bit.
@Reesa, I believe it's a serpent-man rider atop a dinosaur, so not exactly two separate enemies at the moment.
Reesa |
I could have sworn I saw two enemies on the map yesterday, which is why Reesa said to leave the one in back for her!
GM Hmm |
It's okay. These kinds of misunderstandings happen in pbp all the time. I just roll with it!

*shrug*
I dunno! I don't know if changing clothes and makeup could throw off a cat's scent, in either real life or Pathfinder. Maybe if it gives her away, The Salty Kraken will invest in some scent-negation magic (or squid perfume). In my mind, this identity change also involves a drastic change in body language, which may or may not confuse an animal.
GM Hmm |
So... Sparkleweave, I'm giving you back the spell that you started summoning. I probably should have had him surrender right after Reesa's speech about saving the mount, but I wasn't sure that I could have him do that and you still get credit for a victory.
Why?
So... slight rewind. Any resources used after the token and Reesa's speech are back to players.
Hmm
Reesa |
That would be a horrible rule! I'd never play nice ole Reesa in a special if I had to kill everything. She'd be scarred for life!
Ely Thorn Kett |
Whoa! Sorry I missed so many posts! I was confused about what you were talking about here, and checked the gameplay thread to find so many new posts! I think I might have accidentally turned off my new post notifications for the thread.
GM Hmm |
Glad you're back. I'm opening up discussion here do you can figure out who you want to make this skill check for victory points.
Hmm
GM Hmm |

Well, fortunately in the year of the skill check, you will have a variety of options for these skill checks later on.
Just as a heads-up. It's a Wednesday. My Wednesdays are insane. I work today, and GM tonight. If you don't see any posts from me, don't panic! I'll be back much later.
Hmm
Cacumattus Diuberr |
Glancing at everyone's sheets, it looks like the highest single modifier we hae for any of those skills is Sparkle-Weave's +11 for Knowledge (nature), and Cacumattus and Daeris have positive modifiers (+7 and +4 respectively) for a decent chance at aiding. Anyone see any better option that I missed?
Ely Thorn Kett |
Sounds good to me. Alternatively, if Knowledge (Nature) isn't one of those skills we can aid another on, Daeris's Survival is +9 and everyone can try that untrained.
GM Hmm |
Given that you're all comparing notes out of combat, the GM will allow you to aid another with the knowledge check.
Daeris Moonhunter |
Oops, I went to gameplay first and then was ninja'ed by Sparkleweave. I saw the survival aid check and went with that, if knowledge nature was the only one we could use aids with, Daeris' bonus is +4 for an aid roll of 18.
GM Hmm |
Sorry it took so long to write up the research mission today. Writing up mechanics posts is hard! There's so much to elucidate.
Balon |
I will be unavailable essentially the whole weekend, as my wife and I are going to a wedding and then have our own 5th anniversary celebration. I will resume normal posting Monday night or at worst Tuesday morning.
GM Hmm |
So is everyone gone this weekend?
I will be gone most of Saturday to RenFest, but I was hoping to get us started.
Hmm
Ely Thorn Kett |
I'll be free most of this weekend (I have a meatspace game on Sunday), but I don't necessarily want to post before my turn. It involves me running in and growing Large, so I don't want to get in the way of other people's positioning. :X
Cacumattus Diuberr |
Congratulations on your anniversary, Balon! I've been a little slower than intended the last couple of days with family in town, but am now back to normal, or maybe even better than normal since I'm temporarily unemployed for the next week (before starting a new job Monday week).
Reesa |
Today will be slow for me, as Ive got a football game to attend but tomorrow will be regular for me.
GM Hmm |
This holiday weekend appears to be a rotten one for us. I will be back tonight, and will bot Balon and Orin based on how the rest of the team positions in. The goal will be to keep us moving and on track so we don't fall behind, and so we can still do great RP.
I did a slight rewind to grant a surprise round based on Daeris's take ten stealth and the fact that the bad guys are currently listening to someone scream. Take advantage of it if you can.
See you later today.
Hmm
Reesa |
I went ahead and posted Reesa's round one action so if it gets to her turn, we won't have to wait on me. Thanks.

In my first, now edited post, I had forgotten I was an aasimar with the Daylight ability and was advising running. About two minutes later I remembered that important fact, and Hmm had noticed my screwup already. So I made a hasty edit.
Ely Thorn Kett |
Hey, I actually ended up not being to go to my meatspace game today, so I should be available for posting. My last botted actions are fine, though! In your imagination, just throw in a couple of insults at our opponents. ;D

Now I feel bad for botting you, though!
I've been playing with myself way too much today!
Hmm
GM Hmm |
Just as a heads up, I will likely bot Cacumattus, Sparkle-Weave and Orin in the next hour. If this special weren't timed, I would not bother, but I think we need to make quite a bit of progress this weekend.
Hmm
Reesa |
I'm all for botting us, Hmm. Like you said, this is a timed thing and we don't want to hold to the rest of the tables back.
GM Hmm |
Maybe I'm a worry wort... I just want to make sure that we make good time.
Hmm
