Egg Fu |
Barely able to stand the stench, if both trogs are still standing, Egg will fire at the trog that's wounded worse...
Longbow: 1d20 + 7 - 2 ⇒ (18) + 7 - 2 = 23
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Elianna Morgethai |
Elianna somewhat daintily covers her mouth and nose with a silk scarf before adjusting to the smell. "Hm...not pleasant creatures are they?"
She'll keep a silken veil drawn over her head except for her blue eyes as she stays in the middle of the group.
What's with that blue dot on the map with us?
GM Redelia |
You open the door and move into the next room. Judging from the shelves lining the walls, this darkened room might once have been a storeroom, though its contents have long since succumbed to the passage of time. A crack in the northern wall has apparently let in some rainwater, which has collected in a large puddle on the floor.
A lizard about the size of a dog is in the room. As it moves, it sparks with electricity. When it sees you, it runs forward in a way that reminds you of a friendly puppy dog.
Akitosh: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Egg Fu: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Elianna: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Faru: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Hayden: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
lizard: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
You're in initiative, because the order things happen here matters, not because this is necessarily going to have to end in combat.
The entire party is up before the lizard. Know arcana to find out about.
Egg Fu |
Egg thinks the lizard must be a pet but is wary of the electricity surrounding it, so he fires a couple of blunt arrows trying to knock it out as opposed to killing it...
Longbow: 1d20 + 7 - 4 ⇒ (5) + 7 - 4 = 8
Longbow: 1d20 + 7 - 4 ⇒ (17) + 7 - 4 = 20
Non-lethal Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Sir Hayden Greyrun |
Something tells me that Egg's action will resolve this encounter one way or another.
Hayden sees the lizard and is about to approach it when Egg fires. The knight shrugs and decides to follow his example.
Attack (PBS, nonlethal): 1d20 + 5 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 5 + 1 - 4 = 14
Damage (PBS): 1d8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 2 + 1 = 8
GM Redelia |
The little lizard looks confused and disappointed when Egg's arrow hits. He falls down unconscious when Hayden's arrow hits.
Faru finds that the far door takes you back to the area where you started expoloring this floor. You back up to the room where you fought the trogs and open the door in the center of the tower to find the same stairway as you saw below. Here, the stairway is not blocked, so you can use it to go upwards.
I'm going to pause here in case you guys want to do anything before we move on to the third floor.
Egg Fu |
Egg grins at Hayden. "Nice shot."
He briefly searches the room...
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
...and then makes sure the lizard is OK...
Heal: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
...and leaves some of his rations there for it to eat later...
Akatosh Grimfellow |
"Perhaps one of the more-dexterous of us should scout up the stairs? If we can have the element of surprise, we'd be at a distinct advantage, particularly with these two deadeyes." As he speaks, Akatosh gestures to the two archers in the room, who have made quick work of everything so far.
Of course, what I am trying to imply is someone who can stealth/perception should check up the stairs.
Elianna Morgethai |
Knowledge Arcana: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Elianna kneels near the lizard with concern on her face behind her veils, waiting for Egg Fu to confirm that it's going to be okay. "A pity...we should make certain it can escape this tower to safe environs once we've finished here."
Egg Fu |
Egg nods in agreement with Elianna. "We leave door open to outside when leave this place...
I scout up..."
Egg will head up to the third floor...and take a peek around...
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
Elianna Morgethai |
Even though she's not as sharp-eyed as the others Elianna keeps a watch out for potential hazards.
Sir Hayden Greyrun |
When Egg tells them the coast is clear, Hayden leads the group up the stairs. "Alright, everyone, let's see what this floor holds."
GM Redelia |
Egg finds no traps on the door, so he opens it. Two stone altars, one black and one white, sit at either end of this large chamber, which takes up two wings of the tower on this level. The crumbling remains of wooden benches sag in front of each altar beneath rotting ceiling tapestries. Carved symbols and writings snake along the walls. The burnt corpses of two troglodytes lie on the floor in the center of the room.
This room is a temple dedicated to Nethys, the god of magic, in both of his aspects: protection and destruction. The writings on the walls are quotes from Nethys’s holy book.
The room is guarded by two skeletons, wreathed in auras of flame. Their jaws open in a soundless scream as they move towards you, ready to attack.
Akitosh: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Egg Fu: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Elianna: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16

Hayden: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
skels: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Egg may act. Know:religion for more information on enemies.
Egg Fu |
Egg will quickly fire a couple of blunt arrows at the nearest skeleton (one to the NW)...
Flurry of Blows
Longbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Damage (Bludgeoning): 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Longbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Damage (Bludgeoning): 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
GM Redelia |
Egg takes down both skeletons. As his arrow hits each of them, they flare into a fiery burst, but none of you are within range of the flames.
You search the room, and find that the altars still contain their silver altar services as well as two silver holy symbols of Nethys. In addition, a divine scroll rests atop each altar: a scroll of shatter on the black altar, and a scroll of shield other on the white altar.
You check for traps and try to open the door, but it is locked.
edit: cross posted with Hayden. These were burning skeletons. Considering they're dead, I'll leave it at that.
Akatosh Grimfellow |
"Amazing. I must strive to bring myself to the quickness of these allies..." Akatosh mutters as the skeletal foes drop before his mind could comprehend what he saw.
GM Redelia |
Egg leads the way up the stairs and into the first room off the stairs. Crude bunks line the walls of this room, which is filled with the nauseating stench of troglodytes.
Egg Fu:: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Faru: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Hayden: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
This time, only Hayden is sickened. The rest of you are immune for the rest of the day.
Three troglodytes in the room move towards you, ready to attack.
Akitosh: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Egg Fu: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23

Hayden: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
trogs: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3
The entire party goes before the troglodytes.
Sir Hayden Greyrun |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Now, before Egg kills them! :)
Hayden draws an arrow and fires it into the face of the Troglodyte in front of him. He snorts audibly, trying to keep the stench out of his nose and keep from retching.
Attack (PBS, sickened): 1d20 + 5 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 5 + 1 - 2 = 9
Damage (PBS, sickened): 1d8 + 5 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 5 + 1 - 2 = 12
Akatosh Grimfellow |
Offended by the stench, Akatosh steps forward and strikes at the nearest Troglodyte...
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Damage (2-handed): 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Elianna Morgethai |
Elianna gracefully dances past Egg and the troglodyte before him her silks lifting off her lithe form as she spins and ends up behind the creature readying an attack once Egg steps into the flanking position!
Flank attack!: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 5 + 2 = 18
Damage!: 1d6 - 2 ⇒ (3) - 2 = 1
Egg Fu |
Egg will fire a couple of arrows at the trogs, first at the trog next to Akatosh and then at the one next to Elianna...
Longbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Longbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Confirm Crit: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Damage + Crit: 3d8 + 6 ⇒ (2, 7, 2) + 6 = 17
Faru Ibrahir |
looks like this is pretty well handled but just in case
Faru twirls his staff and advances toward whichever one looks more injured
attack: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (13) - 1 = 12
damage: 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3
GM Redelia |
Hayden and Akitosh strike at trogs, but are unable to hit them. Egg fires arrows at two trogs, badly hurting one and taking the other down completely. Faru swings at a trog, but his staff passes right over the trog's head.
The trog with the yellow teeth attacks Akitosh with all his might.
club attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
claw: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (9) - 3 = 6
bite: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (18) - 3 = 15
He's not quite able to connect, though.
The trog with the reddish eyes moves around and attacks Hayden.
Attack of Opportunity from Akitosh, you may roll this along with your normal turn
club: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
party is up. status: Hayden -4 HP and sickened, yellow trog -8 HP
Egg Fu |
Egg will turn and fire a couple more arrows. He'll fire at the yellow one until it's down; if he gets it with the first shot, he'll shoot at the remaining one with his second but, if that misses, he'll fire at yellow again...
Longbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Longbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
GM Redelia |
To keep this moving smoothly, I'll roll Akitosh's AoO for him, since it impacts everyone else's actions.
AoO by Akitosh: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Akitosh is unable to hit the trog as it walks past him.
Egg's arrows take down the yellow trog.
One left, entire party but Egg is up.
Akatosh Grimfellow |
Surely I can roll decently at least once this game, right?
Akatosh swings again at the "Damned Trog!"
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
NOTICE I made a clerical error in my character. My attack is at a +4, not +3, as I forgot to add the masterwork bonus to my attacks. Sorry!
GM Redelia |
Akitosh, with the correction of that error, your hit at the beginning of this battle would have hit. Rather than going back and figuring out what each character would have done, I will just apply the damage to the still standing trog. Your current hit misses, though.
Sir Hayden Greyrun |
FYI, Hayden typically uses a bow which doesn't help with flanking.
The knight doubles over for a second getting sick in a corner. He stands back up and wipes his mouth. "Ok, those things are disgusting." He points to the door on the right. "How about that way?"
Elianna Morgethai |
Elianna comes over to Hayden gently resting a hand on his shoulder and offers him a handkerchief from her belt pouch. "In a tower constructed like this all doors may eventually lead back upon themselves so there may not be much difference."
GM Redelia |
After Hayden's sickness passes, you go through the door he indicated. Here, you find a smoking brazier of coals. You also see a collection of torture implements. A troglodyte, larger than those you have faced so far, turns to you as you enter.
Hayden's save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Hayden is again sickened as the waves of troglodyte stench wash over him.
Akitosh: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
Egg Fu: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Elianna: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Faru: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Hayden: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Tulok: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Egg and Eliana go first.
Elianna Morgethai |
Elianna senses that this creature might be more dangerous than others faced before so she activates her arcane pool as a swift action before moving up (using diagonals to not provoke) to attack!
Attack!: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 5 + 1 = 19
Damage!: 1d6 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (3) - 2 + 1 = 2
GM Redelia |
The trog smiles nastily at Elianna, and then tries to harm her with all its resources.
club attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
claw attack: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (2) - 3 = -1
bite attack: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (5) - 3 = 2
club damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Elianna, do you have any buffs up right now to your AC? You mentioned you were using wands as needed. If so, that might make that not hit.
Entire party is up, trog looks badly injured.
Egg Fu |
Egg sends another couple of arrows at the large trog...
Longbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Longbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Confirm: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Damage + Crit: 3d8 + 6 ⇒ (3, 7, 5) + 6 = 21
GM Redelia |
As Egg's second arrow hits, the trog falls down. In this case his demise is rather messy.
Looking carefully over the body, you find a ring of keys.
You go on to the next room, and find a tiny cell. In it is a man in manacles. He has clearly been beaten and not fed. When you first enter, the man appears to be frightened of you.
I still need to know about Elianna's AC buffing spells.
Egg Fu |
Egg smiles at the man and bows. "Balenar Forsend, I presume? We friends, Pathfinders, sent to find...we free you...."
Egg tries the ring of keys till he finds the right one, and undoes the manacles...
Elianna Morgethai |
you're right I'm sorry I forgot with how fast combats have been going! She'd have mage armor up all the time since it lasts for 1 hour per use on the wand and if you'd let her she'd use her wand of shield as they get to each floor with its 1 minute duration? Sorry!
