A weapon capable of harming the creature is not required, only one capable of making an attack at melee with.
Thorgrim and Barley distract an allip long enough for Oloch to make a mighty swing, his magical weapon ripping shreds of the apparition away.
Rufus and Kawrock attack from range, but only Rufus' arrow pierces the creature. It recoils, but is not dispersed.

@Kawrock: Don't SLAs have verbal components? I'm not actually sure if they do or not but if they do you can't cast it in the silence area right now. Sorry about that, I know it's gimping us a little but I figured stopping their babbling so we can all aid Oloch was better than all of us standing around fascinated.
Ali looks back and sees Barley's lips moving but doesn't know what he is saying.
Thorgrim the Bold Strider |
Thorgrim steps back for his ward, The Amazing Ali.

Oloch sees the magician try to stab at the allip, but the dagger does nothing to help the warpriest. Nor does Barley's swing with his weapon.

Cool! Didn't realize that about SLA.

Delay for now I guess. A bard in silence can't do much.

With a mighty swing of his sword Oloch banishes the last allip back to the afterlife. And just in time it would seem, as Ali's spell of silence ends a moment later and the sounds of your heavy breathing and jingling weapons and armor echo in the area. A quick look around the immediate area reveals ancient skeletal remains in the cells where the allips came from. Prisoners forgotten and left to die alone in the dark in this dreadful place.
Oloch Beefheart |
Oloch wedges his greatsword point-down between a couple of the large stone tiles in the floor and rests his forearm on the guard. "By Gorum's blade those things had worried Oloch! What on Golarion were they babbling on about? Well," he wipes the sweat from his brow with his free arm, "it appears that there is nothing to be gained from these cells. Let's keep going forward! It seems there is a set of double-doors back in that chamber." Oloch takes up his sword and turns around, heedless of any healing that he or others may need.
Since Oloch took 7 pts of Wisdom Damage, he will have -3 on all rolls that use the ability. He can cast lesser restoration, but does not have it currently prepared.
Thorgrim the Bold Strider |
"YES BROTHER OLOCH! A DOOR FOR EACH OF US!" Thorgrim shouts at the half-orc. "TO THE DOORS!"
Ali Khalid Mustafa Ansari |
Ali dismisses the silence effect as soon as the allip falls. "Well done! Well done, everyone! The silence was chilling but it proved to be quite a dramatic effect, I think!"
DM Rah |
Heading north from the from the cells, you pass through the shrine again and through the other double doors. There is another sign over the doors, but it is in the same unknown language that has marked most entrances in this place.
Beyond is a short hall with three alcoves on either side, each of which contains a low shelf covered with nothing but recently disturbed dust. Bashing through a second set of doors you come to a ten-foot-wide hallway. The way continues north, but a branch breaks off to the east from this point as well, however, beyond the first fifteen feet, no details are visible through the glowing, swirling mass of pale mist that fills the entire hall.

"Hold it!" Ali whispers. "Give me a minute. . . there's a little trick I heard about that has worked splendidly in the past."
Ali casts a spell (silent image) and summons what he thinks to be the bane of goblins everywhere: a giant panda stalking in front of the party into the mist.
Hoping to draw out any enemies or at least learn of their presence when they attack the panda. Ali will keep concentrating on it as long as he can and take it with us as we go forward. DC 18 Will save if anything interacts with it (AC 10 to hit it first, medium sized panda).
Oloch Beefheart |
"Ah, the panda! A most frightening creature, yet so cuddly looking. Wha-!?" Oloc looks around frantically, "I mean that in a bad way! GORUM DOES NOT TOLERATE THE CUTE AND THE CUDDLY!"
The warpriest holds his tongue as the panda frolics into the mist, watching it do what pandas do.
I swear I was in another game where a silent image of a panda was used in this way. Or maybe I read about it. I don't know, but how adorable.
DM Rah |
Silent panda is a standard Pathfinder tactic. (Or it soon will be because I'm going to steal it.) However, it does has limits..
This spell creates the visual illusion of an object, creature, or force, as visualized by you. The illusion does not create sound, smell, texture, or temperature. You can move the image within the limits of the size of the effect.
Effect visual figment that cannot extend beyond four 10-ft. cubes + one 10-ft. cube/level. (90 cubes for Ali, which is also limited by line of sight, which can be a smaller area within a dungeon)
The silent panda frolics around the area, checking the mist, then the open area to the north where the hallway opens into damp cavern. A wide pool of murky brown water fills the area to the east, and a narrow tunnel that looks like it was dug with picks leads off to the northwest. No goblins, or any other enemies, reveal themselves, but when the group follows the panda a yellow-orange amoeboid creature slithers forth from the pool, pseudopods grasping ahead of its slow approach.
This creature is a type of ooze called an ochre jelly.
Ooze Traits:
Mindless: No Intelligence score, and immunity to all mind-affecting effects (charms, compulsions, phantasms, patterns, and morale effects). An ooze with an Intelligence score loses this trait.
Blind (but have the blindsight special quality), with immunity to gaze attacks, visual effects, illusions, and other attack forms that rely on sight.
Immunity to poison, sleep effects, paralysis, polymorph, and stunning.
Not subject to critical hits or flanking. Does not take additional damage from precision-based attacks, such as sneak attack.
Acid (Ex) An ochre jelly secretes a digestive acid that dissolves only flesh (not bone) when it strikes a foe—creatures not made of flesh (including most constructs and oozes, skeletal undead, plants, and incorporeal creatures) are immune to the ochre jelly's acid damage.
Split (Ex) Slashing weapons, piercing weapons, and electricity attacks deal no damage to an ochre jelly. Instead the creature splits into two identical jellies, each with half of the original creature's current hit point total, rounded down. A jelly with 10 hit points or less cannot be further split and dies if reduced to 0 hit points.
