Alonso Gallonica |
Alonso looks on rather bemused. I have nothing that could restrain a golem. If we backed off for a day I could get us through invisibly maybe or trap it in a pit...but that wont last long.
In lieu of anything more useful to do he draws out a rope from his pack and tosses it into the group in the room.
August Dupine |
Reposting - goblin ate the last attempt.
If able, August will grab the rope and start tying the pinned golem. If not, he will continue to grapple to try and get a pin.
Grapple: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (16) + 13 = 29
Pin: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (14) + 13 = 27
GM Z..D.. |
May I ask what type of rope is used. He can not escape artist it, but the golem may be able to burst it with a strength check. Either way, it will be taking penalties since it is pinned.
Alonso Gallonica |
Alonso just has regular rope on him
August Dupine |
August also has 50' of silk rope in his pack, but he was just trying to use the regular rope tossed to him.
Auriferous |
Auri, having been enjoying the scenery, realsies she was left behind and hurries in to help bind the golem.
aid-another: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13 STR?
GM Z..D.. |
So assuming the golem will be taking 20 to burst out of the confines of the rope it will take 20 minutes for it to burst out of it binds. So I am calling the combat here. I will even allow you to use more than one rope to extend the duration, if you like.
As the PC's restrain the golem, (yeah, that was weird to say), you all get the feeling of being watched from the mural of faces. But upon closer inspection, can not notice anything.
If you wish to examine the blue platform in room. You notice a golden rune and three triangular tiles, which looks like they can be pushed, in the wall.
and "right"
Upon closer inspection and trying to push the buttons, you realize that the runes are not active. It possibly missing a power supply.
---------------------------------
The room to the east
Inlaid in the dark granite wall on the west side of this room is a large square indentation. Beneath it lie four rectangular pieces engraved with runes, each radiating a soft light: brown stone, blue metal, red crystal, and white ivory.
The square indentation is 2 feet on a side, and each of the four rectangular pieces—each representing a different element—is 2 feet wide, 6 inches high, and an inch thick.
the indentation is a power source for the complex that is activated by the colored rectangles.
Within the indentation is more Jistkan
“At the dawn of time, the fires burned until rain quenched their fury down into solid stone, which has always gazed upon the sky above in envy. Demonstrate obedience to the ancient elemental ordering.”
This aphorism provides instruction that the proper way to place the rectangles in the indentation, from top to bottom, is air-water-fire-earth
Auriferous |
arcana: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
"It appears we are to stack the elements into the square. Can anyone read these scribbles?"
Irizati Grunyar |
Numair just read them to us.
This looks like something Alonso would know things about so the tiger acts oddly and casts Guidance on him. A few times if necessary.
Sir Godfrey |
"Job well done friends!" He helpfully pats the golem on its stone head and wanders into the power room with his sword slung over his shoulder. As Numair explains the writing his eyes begin to glaze over slightly. "I can't say I'm the best for this sort of riddle. Clearly I would declare fire to be the greatest of all, for it's the element of Sarenrae! But as these are heathens, this is likely not the case."
Thus he stays near the door, giving the golem the stink-eye in case it tries anything suspicious. "Would any of our more learned comrades have a better understanding of all this planar nonsense?
Auriferous |
"Yes well.. the ordering would seem to indicate fire, water, stone and air in that order.."
Auri is more than happy to put in the blocks red crystal for fire; blue metal for water; brown stone for stone and lastly white ivory for the sky above.
Alonso Gallonica |
Alonso eyes the bound golem warily and reactivates his ring as he enters, vanishing from sight.
Entering the eastern room, Yes, these do look like some sort of power source..., rummaging in his pack he brings out several volumes of the Pathfinder Chronicles and starts flicking through them, jistka, the fiend, jaizun, I am sure I have read something about this lot elsewhere...
History: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (15) + 15 = 30
Aha! Yes, I knew it. The correct sequence is air, water, fire earth! The air sits above all in the Jistkan mythology, the rains quench the flames which scorch the earth. All nonsense of course but what can you expect from such limited civilisations.
August Dupine |
"Fine deduction, Alonso. Now, what can we do with that information?"
Do we have or see tiles to put into these indentations? Or can they simply be pressed?
Alonso Gallonica |
Looks like you just slot them there bits of rock into the space in the order I told ya and we should be good to go. Go on lad, put yer back into it, ivory, metal, crystal, stone should do the trick. Best hurry afore the golem breaks outta that rope, it don't look too sturdy...
GM Z..D.. |
The tiles fit snugly into the indentation. You believe they still need to be activated someway.
Auriferous |
"Maybe they need a touch of magic... or a pure element?" muses Auri.
"Acid is often associated with earth..."
She will try to cast an acid splash on the earth tile.
Irizati Grunyar |
Paying attention to Alonso's comment about the order Irizati will blow on the tile indicated as Air.
GM Z..D.. |
In response the to the air, water and acid, each tile glows in matching color.
The sound of water can be heard deeper in the cavern.
Looking outside of the window, you also notice the one dim triangular tiles now shine with renewed life.
Down below, you hear a loud grinding, of what sounds of stone on stone.
Only the red crystal is left in a dimmed state.
August Dupine |
August pulls out a tinderstick and lights it, placing it on the stone. "Look, it's like magic..."
Sir Godfrey |
Sir Godfrey had gotten momentarily too excited when he saw what the solution the others had figured out. He was midway through the act of hurling an alchemist fire at the wall when August pulled out his tinderstick. The paladin quietly stuffs the small explosive back into his satchel, whistling softly to let everyone know there is nothing to see.
"I believe that has done it, friends! But what did we just do?"
GM Z..D.. |
As the last tile is activated, you see torches in the room suddenly comes to life as the energy is released.
Forgot the treasures in the room
In the corner of the room is a ring and a necklace with a single jewel on it.
-----------------------------------
Back in the room, the golem still straining against its restraints, the platform hums slightly with power. And the once dim triangular tiles now glows.
Ok, this rune will transport two at a time, and to activate it will be an intelligence check DC 15 or UMD DC 20. And you will need to choose left, middle or right tile, and it will take you to the corresponding platform.
Irizati Grunyar |
How much of the chamber with the platforms can we see? I would ask how deep it goes but the map makes it look bottomless and there seems to be clouds...
GM Z..D.. |
Through the windows/walls of force you can see a good bit of the chamber.
This massive chasm has a grand domed ceiling studded with stalactites, barely visible within the multitude of colors racing across the surface. The entire cavern mirrors both the outside weather, including clouds, and the skyline to the horizon. This skyline is interrupted in jagged pieces where chunks of rock have fallen from the ceiling. The bottom of the chasm is lost in darkness.
The three platforms in a row and the far side. The far left side of the other side has a broken down wall, leaving what looks like another platformed exposed.
Sir Godfrey |
"I am perfectly willing to see what this thing will do first, friends! I am also decent at activating such random devices if I poke them for long enough. Who should like to join me on our brave exploration against the darkness!?" Godfrey steps onto the platform with no sign of fear, his sword slung across a shoulder as he waits. "Oh, I nearly forgot!"
He snaps his fingers and sends his shadow to see if it can pass through one of the normal walls and check the platforms for any traps that will trigger when they arrive.
Shadow Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Auriferous |
"I fear no darkness" says Auriferous.
If nobody else claims the ring of climbing, Auri will put it on.
"Who knows when it may come useful."
Alonso Gallonica |
Spellcraft, Ring, Heroism: 1d20 + 17 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 17 + 2 = 29
Spellcraft, Amulet, Heroism: 1d20 + 17 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 17 + 2 = 24
Alonso looks over the two items while maintaining a wary watch on the golem. The ring helps you to climb while the necklace makes you immune to disease. Neither are of interest to me he says as he goes to examine the platform.
I can probably activate this thing and should probably go first as I can also bring people back if needed. Or I could take a group of us directly across to the other side...
Alonso has dimensional steps, it allows him to dimension door up to 300' per day in 5'increements and he can also bring long others by paying the same amount of distance. It looks like it is about 60' to the entrance on the other side.
August Dupine |
"Perhaps I should go first?"
August steps up. "Send me through, and I'll shout out what I see on that side."
GM Z..D.. |
No traps appear to be on the main platform.
Ok, August volunteers to go first. Another can accompany his, and need to know which platform you are being sent too.
Alonso, if I am guessing you can safely transport everyone in such manner. If so, we can bypass the platforms all together.
Alonso Gallonica |
I cannot take everyone, I don't have enough distance for the lot. I will wait to see what happens with August so I can bring others over to the platforms as needed or at least activate the teleporter. Alonso has returned to invisibility.
Sir Godfrey |
Godfrey has stated he's ready to go and will travel with August. He has limited teleport abilities so as long a the distance isn't too far if you need to prioritize dragging people around Alonso, he can get himself. Let's go to the center since the shadow checked it.
GM Z..D.. |
August and Sir Godfrey steps on the platform, and it is activated. Assuming some one can take 10 and get the check needed
On the platform itself is two triangular controls. One pointing up and the other pointing down. To activate these are the same DC 15 intelligence check and DC 20 UMD
But before they can investigate further, three shadowy figures emerge from the platform itself. A fourth materializes from above.

At least one of the enemies is flying so Irizati will drop out of Dire Tiger form and shift into eagle form. Then he'll fly a bit closer to the blue area.
GM Z..D.. |
@Iriati,those are solid walls, so can not fly through them, and the windows are actually Walls of force. So you are still going to be needing to be teleported out there.
Irizati Grunyar |
Actually I figured someone would use the teleporter thing to send me to one of the platforms.
GM Z..D.. |
Oh, ok, Hopefully, Numair or Auri can activate it for you
Auriferous |
Auri tries to work out how to activate the teleporter...
int: 1d20 ⇒ 13
If we have heroism active on the group that will work, if it was just a personal one, then... close but no cigar.
Alonso Gallonica |
Heroism doesn't add to ability checks sadly.
GM Z..D.. |
OK, up to Numair to to send in reinforcements. And then Irizati and either Numair or Auri will head over on a sucess
Numair Salmalin |
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (18) + 0 = 18.
Numair staggers.
"There is... another presence in the Sage Jewel... it is trying to control the undead, and is different to the other presence that I felt..."
Shaking his head to clear it, Numair then attempts to send Auri and Irizati across.
Use Magic Device: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (14) + 17 = 31.
GM Z..D.. |
Not sure which one you sent them to. Auri or Irizati, you have a preference?
Auriferous |
Can we go to the same platform so we can try and finish off one of those creatures first? If not, any is as good as another from Auri's point of view, happy to go with Irzati.
Irizati Grunyar |
In this form we should all be able to fit on the middle platform right?
GM Z..D.. |
Correct, I will put you all in the center platform.
The green spectre moves up to Auri and reaches a ghastly claw to her and rips at her very being. Auri take 4 damage and need a DC 16 will save or take 2 negative levels from energy drain.
The red spectre moves up to Auri as well and reaches into her as well. Auri take 6 points of damage and need a second DC 16 will save or take 2 negative levels from energy drain.
