Brock Swiftread |
Seeing the signals and the scouts scattering, Brock sidles up next to the signal mage, as was his job as bodyguard, lance in his left hand and sap handy near his right.
As soon as he sees Yaiho and Danicka initiate, he stands ready to sap the mage down, then help clean up anyone unaffected by the sleep spell.
Hopefully CTE isn't an issue with magical healing. Poor mage
Mhazruk Kruhl |
"Looks like us orcs get to do the real fun stuff. Breaking in and well...breaking for you. It is gonna get a little hot while I shut off the defenses." Rook says while rubbing some fire ward gel over him.
He makes sure his extracts and mutagens are ready to go and claps Yaiho on the back. Updating sheet with extracts for day.
Yaiho Crasher |
wow.. 11 Temp HP for Yaiho. With Shield, AC will be 21.
After everyone makes the preparation for the battle ahead, Yaiho walks forward with excitement but remembers he must not go into a Rage if he wants to avoid killing anyone.
Spotting the lead scout, he puts his hand up in greeting. "Yo. Yaiho saw alert lights. Detect danger?"
Placed myself on the map, far enough away for Danicka to use her area spells.
Forrest Glavo |
Forrest sneaks up beside Danicka, ready to toss a Thunderstone if Brock doesn't take down the wizard in one hit.
Readied Throw: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Danicka Raburnus |
When it's time Danicka casts her sleep spell, on the close clump of three enemies. DC 15 Will Save. Affects up to 4HD in a ten foot radius. She'll aim it so she doesn't accidentally target her friends.
Arin Qualnoh |
(or Forrest and Arin can toss some tanglefoot bags at them or do something else awesome?). ... Maybe Arin or Forrest can get at the other hidden compartment during this time?
If Rook wants Arin along to break into the transport he will come. Otherwise it's all about support: sacred touch for auto-stabilize if the worst happens, guidance, bless, remove fear, CLW. If Rook decides he doesn't need Arin along then he'll start by casting bless as soon as this group is about to be engaged..
Arin pauses before the action begins and remembers something...
I'm... probably going to lose the ability to speak in anything but Abyssal as soon as the fighting starts... I will still be fully capable of supporting the group though. Forrest,
can I get one of those tanglefoot bags?
Forrest Glavo |
"Absolutely, friend! More fun for everyone. " Forrest winks and hands one over.

"Yaiho, Sir!" The eager guard calls as she sees her mentor approach. Yaiho recognises her as one of young recruits he 'trained' the previous day, a native Thuvian called Jofe, "It's probably nothing, Sir, but the Water Lords have been known to cause trouble in the area. I bet the scouts are just being extra cautious." She seems unconcerned, scratching her Thuvian Desert Dog behind the ear, "Are you joining us for the rest of the journey, Sir?"
Y'all seem ready to start, so I've moved us into initiative. You really got the jump on them too! However, to keep things from getting too confusing, we'll just do the surprise round for now.
@Danicka: The sleep scroll has a one round casting time. You can start casting during the surprise round, and finish casting with a standard action on your first real turn. Also because of the time it takes to cast, some of the rounds of shield will be used up while casting on others. I made an executive decision on the order, but if you want to cast in a different order, just let me know. ;)
@Forrest: You don't really need to ready the action since you'll both be acting in the surprise round, but you can use your previous roll if needed. ;)

Forrest moves into position, pulling a tanglefoot bag out as he goes. Thunderstone? No, too loud?
Danicka Raburnus |
Yup, order looks good! It's not from a scroll, though, she's casting it herself. She prepared it today and didn't end up buying a scroll of it. And yes, she'll start casting it in the surprise round as you suggested.
Danicka whispers quietly from her place behind Yaiho, beginning to cast a spell that will render the guards in front of her asleep. Peeking out from behind her friend, she carefully calculates where to aim her spell while casting it.
Beginning to cast sleep.
NOTE FOR EVERYONE: I added a super-professional (messy) red outline for her sleep area of effect. Don't stand in it! lol
Yaiho Crasher |
Yaiho smiles at the young scout, "Good. Yaiho glad everyone is fine. Yaiho won't join rest of journey with you though. Journey end for all of you now."
Yaiho refrains from attacking the young scout during the surprise round. Hoping the sleep spell works on them, not really wanting to hurt them.
Brock Swiftread |
Looks like we are all waiting on the results of Danika's spell before we do anything else, right?
GM ShieldBug |
Remember that sleep only works for up to 4 HD worth of creatures, and there are three creatures in the area of effect. Not knowing the total number, a good whack from your sap on the mage might still prove beneficial in the long run. ;)
Brock Swiftread |
Fair point, I suppose I best not waste a perfectly good surprise round...
Seeing Yaiho approach and hearing his words, Brock grips his sap and mutters.
"Lets get this show started, sorry friend."
With that he hauls off and whacks the mage in the back of his head with the sap.

"Oh, this is going to be a blast." Rook says while moving up with the others.
GM ShieldBug |
Botting Arin...
Jofe eyes go wide, and she looks at Yaiho with a confused expression, "I'm sorry, Sir, I don't understand. Have we been relieved? I know Billy got sick, but I could have sworn that snake was one of the non-venomous ones you showed us-" She's interrupted by a thwacking sound and a surprised squeal. Jofe turns around to see the mage's keffiyeh fly into the cavern wall, Brock having misjudged where the man's head ended and his protective headgear began, "What the-"
With Jofe's back turned, Forrest, Arin, and Rook make their move towards the transport, causing the dog to growl at the unfamiliar faces. Behind them, Danicka starts whispering the words of a powerful spell. Jofe wobbles on her feet, "We're... undeah... aah-" And falls face first into the sand, murmuring softly about pretty lights. The mage, however, shakes off the worst of the spell with a stifled yawn and a shudder, but he's still too surprised and confused to act in self defence. The dog doesn't seem to have been targeted by the spell, and it continues to growl, warning the strangers not to approach it's master.

Interesting... let's see if the dog will take chocolate after it doesn't like us.
Forrest drops the bag and pulls out one of the chocolates. He tosses it in the dog's direction. "Here, boy! Want some chocolate? Yes... yummy chocolate... good boy... It's ok.... "
GM ShieldBug |
The dog turns back towards Forrest's friendly voice, growling distrustfully as the halfling approaches. As soon as Forrest pulls out the treat, however, the growling subsides and the dog suddenly stands a little taller, no longer threatening to pounce as it licks its lips expectantly. It hops back a little when the chocolate lands in front of it, barking excitedly and pawing playfully at the tasty morsel.
Looks like it'll still work. :)

Danicka moves forward, closer to the dog and transport.
Mhazruk Kruhl |
"Well, we can just give the little guy space to eat." Rook says while movign around him in a wide berth. His eyes on the entrance to the transport.
Yaiho Crasher |
Yaiho is glad he does not have to hurt the young scout. "Sleep. Wake up later."
He then walks around the dog, letting it enjoy it's treat as he makes his way toward the transport.
Arin Qualnoh |
Arin follows his companions towards the ambush. He opens his mouth to tell them what he plans to do, but he begins to jabber in very harsh, disturbing sounding abyssal.
It's already started. You aren't going to understand any of this! Orc pineapple spoon!
GM ShieldBug |
The dog happily starts chewing its treat, ignoring Rook and Yaiho as they rush past on their way to the transport. With her spell complete, Danicka also starts hustling towards the transport while Arin tentatively steps closer, speaking in tongues.
The last remaining guard starts fumbling for his sword, "How could you?" He yells in disbelief, "Pashow will be ruined!" He takes a deep breath, steeling himself for what's to come, and the blade finally slides free of it's scabbard. Pointing forcefully towards Brock, the guard yells, "SICK 'EM!" But instead of rushing off in the direction indicated, Prickles just stares curiously at the guard's finger, his head askance, *Arf?* Cursing the stupidity of his canine protector, the guard holds his blade out, point first towards the 'bandits,' "You're surrounded. You'll never get away with this!" Noticing his masters aggressive stance, Prickles steps in front of the guard, crouched down and ready to attack anyone who comes close.

Danicka Raburnus |

"It's alright, Prickles. Easy." Danicka intones, trying to calm down the dog.
Charisma check on Prickles: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15

Letting Danicka handle Prickles, Yaiho slips past Brock to head toward the door but does nothing to it until Rook shows up to handle any trap like stuff.
Brock Swiftread |
There still is a guard (possibly paralyzed) to subdue
Mhazruk Kruhl |
I will get to blow something up later. For now it waits...what the hell is an Orc pineapple spoon...that boy is possessed.
Rook ignores the remaining guard to start working on the door. He looks at the locks to discern which ones are the correct ones.
"Alright, let's do this."
He chugs his mutagen quickly to give him the edge he is going to need to get into the transport.
Standard: Dexterity Mutagen. +4 DEX/+2 AC/-2 WIS
Forrest Glavo |
We had more than one treat, right? If so...
Forrest rounds the transport, another treat in his hand. He ignores the guard and tosses the treat to the dog. "Here, boy! Who's a good boy? Who doesn't want to get stabbed? Ya? Good boy! "
He draws the tanglefoot bag and throws it at the guard.
Vs Touch: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
The bag comes apart and goo bursts out, entangling the target and then becoming tough and resilient upon exposure to air. An entangled creature takes a –2 penalty on attack rolls and a –4 penalty to Dexterity and must make a DC 15 Reflex save or be glued to the floor, unable to move.
GM ShieldBug |
The guard sees the truth in Brock's words, there is no way he can fend off six obviously well-prepared bandits, but he stands his ground, "N-n-never!" That's when he catches Brock's eyes, his cold, terrifying eyes. The guard freezes, his skin turns several shades paler, and he stands like a statue, paralysed with fear.
Will, Green; Shaken: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (4) - 2 = 2
Danicka rushes forward, worried about what might happen to Prickles if she doesn't intercede. The dog looks at her with his big ol' eyes, head tilting from side to side as he listens to Danicka's uncharacteristically calm and confident voice. He doesn't seem especially attached to his current handler, and may very well listen to the nice lady who kept visiting and grooming him in the kennels. That's basically an untrained handle animal check, and you beat the DC to make him do a learned trick. However, his training is very limited, let me know what trick you want him to do, and we'll see if he understands. ;)
Forrest also approaches Prickles, doggy treat in hand and speaking in a friendly voice. The dog initially growls a little at the halfling's approach, but seeing that he isn't threatening either the guard or Prickles himself, he calms down a little and eyes the chocolate.
@Forrest: There were a total of three treats that could be combined with the chocolates to make the dogs sick. Since you asked for them in the preparation stage, you can throw another.
Meanwhile Yaiho and Rook rush to the secret door on the side of the transport, and prepare themselves to enter.

So noone is gonna do anything with the helpless guard this turn? Le sigh, I'll stomp over and knock him out next round... grumble grumble grumble ... gotta do everything myself ... grumble ;P

lol sorry, Arin is less of a physical fighter, but perhaps he should switch his action to "tying up guard", or "non-lethal damage to knock unconscious?"
Forrest Glavo |
Was he only out for one turn? I thought he was asleep for a little while...
Brock Swiftread |
green is out for one round, though it was probably enough for Danicka to take control of Prickles for us, maybe. Though since we'd have to move all anyone woukd get is a bonus to hit. Brock will go smack him around next round
Danicka Raburnus |
Danicka was just hoping for 'down'. Haha.
Brock Swiftread |
down, stay or heel would all be excellent options. Hopefully Prickles knows the trick you pick
If PFS didn't limit to one animal companion, Huntmaster Cavalier would be fun. I have eyed Wild Child Brawler as well, since apparently PFS scenarios are too morally objectionable in general for my paladin
GM ShieldBug |
Sorry, I should have put a duration on the paralysis effect. Speaking of, the sleep spell has a duration as well...
Prickles makes up his mind, he stops growling, picks up his chocolate treat, and pads over to Danicka's side. The guard opens his mouth to protest, but nothing comes out, and he can only watch in horror as his guard dog switches sides. Turning yet another shade paler, his eyes dart from 'bandit' to 'bandit,' sword arm quivering in front of him.
Meanwhile on the other side of the transport, the other dog has finished its helping of chocolate and walks gingerly over to the mage. It stands over the fallen man protectively, growling halfheartedly at Brock. Even though the dog is clearly unwell, it lets you know that the fallen mage is under its protection, and it will defend him at all costs.

Move action. Colour Spray on the guard. No one else is in the area of effect. DC 15 Will negates.
GM ShieldBug |
A vivid cone of clashing colours springs forth from Danicka's hand, overstimulating the poor terror-stricken guard's brain. He immediately drops his sword and stares at the 'maid' for a second, his eyes glazed over, then he collapses to the floor, unconscious.

COMBAT OVER!!! That'll do it, as long as you don't antagonise the other dog, and either tie up or otherwise make the temporarily disabled guards unable to cause future problems. If you are interested, each guard has a potion of cure light wounds, mwk arrows (5), tanglefoot bags (2), thunderstone (2); longbow with 20 arrows, longsword, and a sap. The dog won't let you get close enough to inspect the mage's gear.
Rook looks at the chains covering the transport's door with the twelve brand new locks attached to them, and the task of unlocking them all is quite daunting. Fortunately, Rook placed many of the locks himself, and he knows that by opening just two specific locks, the whole thing will come undone.
Rook knows exactly which two locks he needs to open (DC 20), before the transport can be opened. You may take 10 or 20 ;)
Forrest Glavo |
Forrest moves to tie up the Northern Green guard. He pats Prickles on the way past. "Good boy, buddy. "
Brock Swiftread |
Brock carefully slides past the growling dog and binds guard Blue before she can wake.
Then he keeps an eye out for more party crashers until Rook gets them into the transport.
Yaiho Crasher |
Yaiho is glad he didn't have to harm any of the guards and waits patiently for Rook to pick his locks so he can potentially smash something.
Arin Qualnoh |
”Brock, Yaiho, how soon until the separately occupied scouts return? Given how fast that went, I suppose a while longer yet.”
Brock Swiftread |
"At least twenty minutes without the recall spell being cast before anyone will be back to check in. I fully expect to be gone by then."
Brock says as he continues to watch around the area for any surprise guards returning.
Mhazruk Kruhl |
Rook works through the locks on the transport to get inside.
Disable Device: 20 + 9 + 4 = 33
Disable Device: 20 + 9 + 4 = 33
"That should do it. It is gonna get hot in here but I should have it off pretty quick...at least before we die." he laughs.
Brock Swiftread |
When the locks pop Brock sidles up near Yaiho, gripping his morning star, waiting for Rook to disable the traps and whatnot and ready to smash some furniture.
GM ShieldBug |
Mhazruk takes his time to make sure he opens the locks properly and has absolutely no trouble getting the job done. With just those two specific locks cracked, all the chains surrounding the transport are easily pulled free, and the secret door is opened. Rook goes in first, ready to disable the deadly heat trap within.
Entering the transport is quite a weird sensation, since after stepping in from the side, you find yourselves climbing into a large room through the floor. The interior shimmers with heat as unseen gears within the walls grind and whirr. Rook knows that time is of the essence if he is to disable the two exceedingly complicated switches located on opposite sides of the transport before the heat overwhelms him. He also knows that if he walks to the nearest air vent and stuffs a pin into one of the tiny devices just inside the duct, the whole trap is disabled instantly. So that's what he does, and the death trap is made safe before he even breaks out into a sweat. This trap is really nasty if you didn't get those successes on day two. But now you auto succeed on a 1 from anywhere in the transport, so I hope you don't mind me assuming you did. :)
The transport serves several purposes. In addition to providing a vault for the elixir, it provides storage space for gear and a fully functional shelter from sandstorms or other extreme weather. Once everyone has bizarrely climbed up into the transport, you realise that you have entered the meeting room. A heavy black curtain splits this room in two, and in each half of the room, four chairs surround a round table. Forrest remembers from his time sneaking through the transport that there is a secret door that leads into the altar room somewhere in the wall to the east. However, the door is exceptionally well hidden and will take some searching for.
You're in! The map has been updated, what do you want to do?
