I suggest that each of you just fill out the slide with the items (including prices) that you think would come in handy. If you collectively go over budget, it should be easy to start removing those items that are deemed least useful. :)
Brock Swiftread |
I was thinking the horn/scrolls of fog at the ambush point should in thwory get them to send out scouts, which tjen can be mislead by ghost lights (or maybe this will work initially if they send the code).
Then we infiltrate drop the remaining mage/guards (spells/scrolls of sleep?) And on to the interior and traps.
At least thats my thoughts as a player, Brock has no idea
Danicka Raburnus |
I'm just trying to sort out everyone's suggestion for gear into our budget.
How does this sound to everyone:
Sap: Brock: 1 gp
Potions of Cure Light Wounds: (8 total): 400 gp (2 for Brock, who else wants to carry some?)
Scroll of Web x2: 300 gp (Danicka can use these on the guards during battle)
Scroll of False Life x5 (1 each): 125 gp (Danicka will cast this on everyone except Brock before the ambush occurs)
Scroll of Shield x4 (Rook, Yaiho, Forrest, Danicka: 1 minute): 100 gp (Danicka will cast this on the named people immediately before beginning the ambush)
Scroll of Mage Armour (Danicka): 25 gp
Scroll of Sleep: 25 gp
Smokestick x2: (to cover our retreat?) 40 gp
Tanglefoot bags x3: 150 gp
Total: 1,166 gp
Does anyone else want some cheap gear to use up that last 34 gold?
Or we could do away with the scrolls of shield for an extra two tanglefoot bags.
Thoughts?
Forrest Glavo |
I think three bags is enough!
Thank you for putting that together, that is super helpful! I suggest a thunderstone with the last 30. Could be a useful diversion or a deafen against a caster.
Arin Qualnoh |
Another shield scroll for arin maybe?
Danicka Raburnus |
Oh, I'm sorry! I missed a scroll! Why did I think we only needed four? Weird. Haha.
We can pick up a thunder stone for Forrest, and instead of the extra sleep scroll we'll get one more shield for Arin. I should have enough ways to take out the guards without it.
Danicka Raburnus |
Last things, I think:
- Who wants to wear the Eyes of the Eagle? Rook?
- Who wants to carry the horn of fog?
- Who wants to carry some Cure Light Potions? We're buying 8 and Brock wants two.
- Forrest, do you want to carry the thunder stone?
- Who wants tanglefoot bags? We have three. Forrest and..?
- Who wants to carry the smokesticks? We have two.
Mhazruk Kruhl |
Well bad news is work finally blocked Paizo.com so I am gonna have to get Wayfinder, lol. Only change would be to get me at least one Fire Ward Gel instead of a Tanglefoot so I don't drop taking down the heat traps (Squeezed one into the budget but a 2nd one for Yaiho will be difficult he could wait out side if there are no enemies inside). Otherwise sounds good to me. I can take the Eyes as well if no1 else needs them. I will carry some CLW as well since I cannot give my own away if Yaiho drops.
Brock Swiftread |
Wayfinder stopped working for me back when the site had so many issues a few months ago.
Not sure if its been fixed.
Yaiho Crasher |
Hmm... I guess Yaiho would like to carry two Potions of CLW. Otherwise nothing else.
Forrest Glavo |
I'll take two cure light wounds pots. And the thunderstone, in case Brock doesn't knock out the wizard.
As for Wayfinder, it stopped for me as well, a few months ago. My tactic has been to download the Firefox app and the Pathfinder plug-in. Additionally, I set keyboard shortcuts on my phone. For example, ooc autocorrects to [ooc] and di autocorrects to 1d20 ⇒ 7. I actually prefer my new set up to Wayfinder.
Mhazruk Kruhl |
Ah I will try that then. Thank you for the tips Forrest.
Also with all those nice RP rolls I can't wait for Rook to forget how to disable traps and completely get fried in the transport.
Forrest Glavo |
Shoot... GM, how far off is the main force of guards?
I don't want to use a thunderstone if it will give us away. Maybe I'll just use a bag on the wizard.
GM ShieldBug |
That's a good question! Honestly, the PDF just says that they are spread out and investigating nearby dunes. If I had to say, I'd give a rough estimate of just over half a mile away, but whatever their distance, I'm going to say it'll be perfectly safe to use a thunderstone. ;)
Forrest Glavo |
Perfect... I'll toss that next turn, then. That will affect the wizard and any nearby enemies.
Brock Swiftread |
Gah, after all that buildup I friggin miss.
Even flat footed he'd need like a -2 dex for me to have a chance.
So disappointing to ruin the drama so spectacularly.
GM ShieldBug |
Surely it just adds to the drama? I know I'm very interested to see what happens next. :)
I just realised that I have never given an official botting policy, so here it is: If we're in combat and a player hasn't posted for 24 hours from the start of a new round, I will bot them. However, if the new round is posted on a weekend (like today,) I will wait 48 hours before botting.
I hope this suits everyone. If y'all would prefer a little longer before I start botting, left me know. ;)
Yaiho Crasher |
That sounds fine to me.
Arin Qualnoh |

Sounds good. I'm back now, but since I stated I'd be pre-occupied today, hopefully you didn't wait the 24 hours if you needed a move from Arin :)
Arin Qualnoh |
Now that I'm caught up it looks like you botted me for a move action, so I'm good until first post-surprise round.
I'll do a little post to get his oracle curse in the game.
GM ShieldBug |
Hehe, it's the third round and I still haven't rolled a single attack roll against any of you. I have a feeling that once you submit your report on the convoy's defences, quite a few changes will be made. :)
Danicka Raburnus |
Top of their list: Beware of maids.
No? Haha.
Brock Swiftread |
"Don't trust Brock" is always wise advise
GM ShieldBug |
Sorry about that guys. Not sure what happened there, but I'm so glad it was a relatively small post. :)
I'm probably not going to have enough time to push you forward today, (I have a hard disk to recover that has coincidentally decided to become just as corrupted as last night's post) so feel free to chat among yourselves for a bit. ;)
Forrest Glavo |
FYI: I am out of town this weekend. I should be able to post once per day, but will be limited other than that.
GM ShieldBug |
@Brock: Are there any specific combinations of colour I should avoid using because they look too similar? Or I could start using different shapes instead for future games, if that'll be easier.
Brock Swiftread |
Just things that are close in color. Yellow/Orange, Blue/Purple. Simply correcting me and making fun of my eyesight is perfectly acceptable as well, my friends have been doing that my whole life!
If you are curious or interested, this website is good for finding good colors for folk like me. We used it a lot in college.
GM ShieldBug |
@Brock: Gotcha! Funny thing is, I'm always taking colour blindness into account when designing graphics for work, but it totally slipped my mind for this.
@Everyone: Okay, so the first round of combat has been posted, I hope y'all are happy with how it went down. I thought that it might have been a good way to set off the attack, but in hindsight, I don't think it worked so well. I think from now on, I'm going to have to ask y'all to refrain from making any attack rolls until after initiative has been established. Otherwise excellent rolls might be ruined when the actions of bad guys make you have to do something completely different, and I hate wasting excellent rolls. ;)
GM ShieldBug |
That's a wrap! Thanks again everybody for another fun game. I'll get to work on your chronicle sheets, and they should be ready by tomorrow. As always, if anyone has any suggestions or critiques on my GMing and such, please feel post here or drop me a PM if you prefer. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves!
It'll take me a week to prep for the next scenario, so I think we'll probably start again on or around the 12th of February if that's alright with y'all. Most of you will be levelling up anyway, so the break will give you some time to sort all that out. :)
Brock Swiftread |
Excellent game! Great job GM.
Glad I got some charges in but I do feel like the mount wont get used much.
So I'm debating going back to daring champ (then the debate is DEX vs STR) or trying to find some switch hitting gunslinger combo (cause guns are fun). I'd love to find a decent picaroon build but have yet to.
Suggestions? Ideas?
Arin Qualnoh |
Well done, folks! That's both success conditions, and job well done. Thanks for another fun game! :)
And thank you. This was a very well run, and fun game!
Also thanks so much (to all of you) for adding me into this group. This is definitely a very fun group, with pretty hilarious characters :)
Yaiho Crasher |
When I took a bite out of the last enemy, I forgot I did the same thing in the last chronicle until Brock reminded me. I might try to make that a recurring theme. Sorry Danicka. :P
Danicka Raburnus |
Oh, no! Haha.

Thanks for joining the group, Arin. :)

Ah, so you're thinking of picking up a few tricks from the pirate captain then. :)
I agree about the horse. As far as I can tell it'll get very little use at lower levels, and while it is possible that maps will open up a bit at higher levels, I'm not one hundred percent sure. As for build advice, I'm not sure I'm experienced enough to help. However, it seems one level of Mysterious Stranger or Pistolero is absolutely necessary, and that you'd be better off thinking of using the pistol as a nice opener (maybe with the opening volley feat) and for versatility, rather than two-weapon fighting. The bracer pistol (costing 2PP) looks pretty nice for that sort of fighter, shoot your opponent in the face with one of its two barrels then lay into them with your melee weapon of choice while they're distracted. The nice thing about doing it that way is that you don't need to worry about any of the usual feats like precise shot to make the gun useful (deadly aim might still be nice though.) It's also possible that rather than going Picaroon, which doesn't seem to offer an awful lot, you could even keep with a daring champion from level two onwards.
In any case, you have a week to mull it over. Good luck!
When I took a bite out of the last enemy, I forgot I did the same thing in the last chronicle until Brock reminded me. I might try to make that a recurring theme. Sorry Danicka. :P
So you're saying we may need to provide safety goggles and rain ponchos for the rest of the party? :)
GM ShieldBug |
Just realised that I have no dayjob rolls for Arin or Forrest. Do you guys want to roll them now, or do you have other plans for your down time?
Brock Swiftread |
Haz mat suits for the party, most likely. Yaiho is a messy eater.
Yeah, I'm almost settled on going one level of Mysterious stranger then going daring champion for the rest. I will likely get a buckler gun (for PP) as well as either a musket or blunderbus.
I will also likely focus my daring champion on STR, I lose some DEX but then I don't have to burn two feats on slashing grace/fencing grace and have more versatility in weapon types against myriad foes. Plus I can get into a breastplate right away and only lose some AC when a DEX guy would have afforded a mithral one (even though I will eventually get into a mithral breastplate).
That also gets me power attack at level 1 instead of 3.
It appears the heavy pick will qualify for precise strike (at cav 4) and seems a likely weapon for someone who dabbled in knightlyhood and seems different enough to make me smile.
Forrest Glavo |
A heavy pick sounds so great. Though, I do think it should be named Danicka! Ha!
I forgot my world famous Irish Jig routine?! Oh, no!
Perform (Dance): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29
Wow, it is world famous!
Thanks for the fantastic game, again. Such a perfect pairing of great GM with a great group.
I'm curious, who is levelling up? (This is my 2nd game, so I'll still be Level 1.)
Danicka Raburnus |
I just hit 3 XP so I'll be levelling up. I'm not sure if I'll add a level of wizard again and be atrocious with my dog, or dabble into a level of Druid. We'll see. Lol
Brock Swiftread |
I will be levelling.
With Danicka's reverence for life dtuid makes sense.
Is there any vatiant familiar that can get you a dog, cause that'd work great
Yaiho Crasher |
Since Yaiho doesn't have a Job Roll. He'll go for this before he makes 2nd level.
Forgo your Downtime to nonviolently fight for the cause of liberty by spending time organizing protests, freeing slaves, or distributing revolutionary material. Doing so requires a successful Disable Device, Knowledge (local), or Stealth check with a DC equal to 15 + your character level.
Stealth DC16: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (1) - 3 = -2
hehe.. Fail's spectacularly.
Yaiho will also be level 2, but I'll wait until the chronicle sheet is out so I can do everything at once.
Arin Qualnoh |
Just realised that I have no dayjob rolls for Arin or Forrest. Do you guys want to roll them now, or do you have other plans for your down time?
craft, perform or profession...damn. Looks like I can't. Doesn't Ketapesh need healers? :P
Also, this scenario is 1xp I assume. I'll be two behind the party, but hopefully not a big deal.
Forrest Glavo |
Danicka, pull a Brock and retrain into Druid! You could keep the broom as a keepsake, get a wolf/dog companion and get more merciful spells!
Arin Qualnoh |
Danicka, pull a Brock and retrain into Druid! You could keep the broom as a keepsake, get a wolf/dog companion and get more merciful spells!
Obviously that would be Prickles.
GM ShieldBug |
For those who are curious...
Yaiho - 3xp
Danicka - 3xp
Brock - 3xp
Forrest - 2xp
Mhazruk - 2xp
Arin - 1xp
The game has now been reported and you can find your chronicle sheets here. Remember to make a copy since if you click 'add to drive,' you may lose your copy if I should ever delete it from my drive for whatever reason. ;)
@Mhazruk: You mentioned something about learning spells from Danicka? I believe that I have to sign off on any spells you learnt for your chronicle sheet, so just let me know which ones you want and I'll update your sheet accordingly. :)
Brock Swiftread |
I spent 8 gold on clothes that didn't get subtracted, I'll do that on my end
Brock Swiftread |
Forrest Glavo |
Hmmmm... I may drop a GM chronicle on him during our next game so he'll jump to 4 XP to match the majority of our group.
If it's not to much work, could you please fix my sheet? It says 10 GP for a day job check, but my 29 should get me 50gp.
