Maps and Handouts

Silverhex:

As you may have gathered from my absence, I’ve made a few enemies who would be all too pleased to see me leave the region—or worse. Like so many matters in the River Kingdoms, the range of thugs that might want an honest explorer dead are as diverse and numerous as the kingdoms
themselves. The last several months of my time here have been exciting and perilous enough that exactly who my real enemies are is unclear. Until I can sort out the sides, I’m lying low in a nearby hideout. I should be safe there and can meet with you soon to complete our transaction.

Year of the Skykey

Hello and welcome to the game! Please make yourselves at home. Unless something changes I'm looking to open the gameplay thread on the 10th of November for character introductions, and we'll start properly soon after that. In the meantime, feel free to dot and delete in the gameplay thread, and discuss which characters you'll be using (or just discuss anything really) here. If there are any questions, ask away!

Thanks and I'm looking forward to our time together! :)

Year of the Skykey

Welcome aboard Brock! At my count y'all have three at the front, and three at the back-ish. That's doesn't seem too bad a balance to me, unless you really want to give the gun tank character a try of course. ;)

Now that we are all here, I think it's time for me to introduce myself properly.

About me

I like to keep my games moving along at a reasonably steady pace and will typically make only one substantive post a day to move the story along, but I will post more often during combat and the occasional conversation to help keep things flowing nicely. I am a roleplay and story-oriented GM and love it when players take advantage of the format to play off of each other, have conversations, and describe how they are doing the things they are doing. That said, I also really enjoy combat and will try to keep y'all on your toes and make combats challenging and fun - bad guys with high acrobatics skills and the intelligence to use it, for example, will make full use of it to pop up where you don't want them. I highly encourage y'all to think out of the box as well, jump on tables for the higher ground bonus to hit, for example, both useful and fun! :)

Some expectations

I expect players to post at least once a day, but I understand that this is not always possible. Please tell me if you anticipate that you will be unable to post. If you're going on holiday or are in the middle of a crazy week at work, that's okay. Just let me know so that we can keep things rolling smoothly in your absence. I'll tell you when I'll be unable to post too. Also, if everyone can have a 'bot me' spoiler in their profile with key strategies and pre-formatted dice rolls, that would be great!

In combat, please indicate what actions you are using on your turn. Just a little bit of ooc text at the end of your post like this: standard action to cast fireball, move action to draw rod of everlasting awesomeness.

And finally, have fun! I'm hoping for teamwork, enthusiasm, and a healthy dose of heroism. :)

Tell me about your characters

Is there anything fun or unusual about your characters I should know about before we begin? Just so that I have time to look up the necessary rules, or refresh my memory on how grappling works if any of your characters specialise in wrestling. ;)

I'm still thinking up Brock's personality some as I rebuilt him from a hunter (decided I wanted full martial).

Being Order of the Cockatrice he will be selfish and self serving, motivated by money and adventure over altruism.

To keep him from being too jerkish I'll internalize any of that, he can appreciate good comrades just fine.

Danicka is super meek and shy, but desperately wants to follow in her mother's footsteps to be a hero. She always carries around her mother's old bonded object--which is a broom, and often gets mistaken for being a maid or servant. Unfortunately, Danicka's never been able to get the thing to work right, so mostly she just whacks people with it when backed into a corner.

Danicka is also very wary of killing people. She's more likely to use non-lethal tactics against humanoids than she is to kill them. The being said, she's unlikely to speak up if anyone disagrees with her, so it shouldn't mess up other peoples tactics much.

She's an awkward, gangly thing, and just super fun to role-play, so I'm excited to get started.

Also, I'm still new to PFS so bear with me here. Haha.

Rules-wise there's nothing really you'll need to look up for her.

Yaiho is a 9 INT, 7 CHA Brute. So I wouldn't expect anything clever from him. He will charge into combat without thinking doing massive damage to his enemy but is also a damage sponge. Why I'll lend a Wand of CLW to someone to use.

I've built Yaiho to also be good a damaging objects. At higher level it will be truly impressive, but currently he just has the Vandal Trait which allows him to break objects easier. If there is a barred/locked door, he is likely to smash it if a rogue doesn't start to pick the lock first.

He likes to take on the strongest opponents first but he will temper his battle lust to protect his companions. So if of you are really hurt, he might break off from his current opponent to kill the enemy that hurt you.

He can be reasoned with though. Good example, his last chronicles he opted to do non-lethal damage at Danicka's request. Because of that, I'm tempted to get that feat that allows you to do non-lethal damage with bludgeoning weapons without penalty.

Sin is in many ways your typical sailor on the surface. She is vulgar and finds diplomacy to be more risk than reward. Her intelligence and intuition guides her through the sometimes dangerous decisions she makes.

Being raised by a caravan of Varisian travelers and ship crews made her appreciate the fact that family was more than blood. She grew fiercly protective of her family and those that don't have a family to count on.

She chose the life of a sailor due to the natural draw her heritage gives her to the water and from a desire to explore her freedom with other like minded individuals. Her crews bravado made the Squall's Purchase the go to vessel for transport through dangerous waters.

Forrest is a fiery halfling with a knack for getting into, then out of, trouble. Quick on his feet, and armed with a devilish smile, he is able to adapt to most situations.

As a runaway slave (the noble he butler'd for died in a highway robbery and he escaped) he has a serious distrust of authorities. He is brash, usually the first or second through a door. (Probably right behind Yaiho!) He is a tad prideful and attempts to land the final blow on most enemies.

As for rules, I will probably Intimidate in combat once or twice. I also am building around the Swashbuckler parry tactic.

Parry & Riposte :

Opportune Parry and Riposte (Ex): When an opponent makes a melee attack against the swashbuckler, she can spend 1 panache point and expend a use of an attack of opportunity to attempt to parry that attack. The swashbuckler makes an attack roll as if she were making an attack of opportunity; for each size category the attacking creature is larger than the swashbuckler, the swashbuckler takes a –2 penalty on this roll. If her result is greater than the attacking creature’s result, the creature’s attack automatically misses. Upon performing a successful parry and if she has at least 1 panache point, the swashbuckler can as an immediate action make an attack against the creature whose attack she parried, provided that creature is within her reach.

TLDR: I will try to dodge big scary blows. If successful, I get an AoO. Also, I get 4 AoO per round. So, I'm limited by Panache, which I get back from knocking out opponents.

Ok, think I've decided on Umbru's final tweaks.

Umbru is a wayang, small and weak even by the standards of the small race. He hails from the foothills of the remnants of Mount Shibotai in the isles of Minata, where most wayangs make their homeland. Like the shadows his race prefers, Umbru instinctively avoids the light, keeping to the shadows. That pretty much describes his personality as well, avoiding the limelight. When he speaks, he is soft and mellow, although formal, almost stilted. But like the bombs that he wields, when he acts, it is with flash and flurry.

He dedicates himself to enhancing his mind, turning to study under master alchemists who had studied the same for thousand of years, blending worldly alchemical materials with elements of the shadow world to enhance not the body but mind. He finds the use of the more flashy alchemical tools like bombs vulgar but a necessary evil.

He has left the lands quite reluctantly, but was convinced by the Grand Councillor, whom he is also an apprentice of, that to rejuvenate the race requires the members to break out of their often self-imposed exile.

At early levels, Umbru in combat is reduced to just throwing bombs. He'll do his utmost to avoid damaging allies, with targeting space for AC5 (almost definitely hit) then risk missing, or switching to his crossbow.

Year of the Skykey

Thank you Forrest and Umbru, sounds like we have an interesting mix of characters. :)

I've added a 'Loot Tracker' to the slides to make it easier to keep track of anything you gain during the course of the quests. You don't have to worry about who's carrying the gold, but it might be good to know how the potions of CLW and Alchemist's fire are spread out. Oh and slide 3 will be updated with relevant images as we make our way through the quests.

Preemptive self defense, very One Eye of you.

Brock gave them (in his eyes) ample chance to survive, he didn't even throw any taunting kissyfaces or anything!

Bye the by, Brock informs the group to leave his target alone and what is Danika's FIRST action... attack his target.

And in a useless non lethal way to boot!

I love it.

Hopefully that 20 damage I did plus the damage Forrest already did is enough to take out the leader and avenge Forrest.

In these situations though, I always hope for a Crit. Where a companion is seriously hurt and then Yaiho scores a crit against them as revenge and the look of horror on the enemy's face as Yaiho does around 60 damage.

Haha. She's worried you'd kill her. Maybe that 2 non-lethal will save the 'poor womans' life!

Given how much damage she already taken from Forrest's attack, I think in this case the 20 damage has pretty much the same effect as a crit. :)
