I've been having trouble keeping up.

IMPORTANT: What are this thing's sensory faculties like? To what degree can illusions fool it? What about invisibility? What about shadowform?

Do we know its alignment (presumably NN, but not necessarily)? Do we have any idea of its CMD?

In addition to fly, other potentially-relevant spells I have prepared include (but are not limited to) frost fall, chain of perdition, and river of wind.

Sirih, we do know it has high SR, so you might look over your options and see if you have something that bypasses SR. (Narika doesn't, other than grease)

You have no knowledge of this.

You don't know, but it is the spirit of a creature that swore to destroy a good elemental lord.

I would suggest that everyone get close enough for someone to cast Haste. We might have to run around to try and avoid this thing.

Also, I am sabotaging as many squares as possible. Do they need to be marked, or do we more or less have whatever time we need, and I can do all of the squares between him and us?

Could we fire a projectile up, and make some sort of skill check to estimate the distance? For example, Perception to hear when it hits the ceiling, then Knowledge (arcana) to count from then until it falls and calculate the distance?

Your only time constraint is how long the Azers will be "conveniently away". They may or may not realize you are about to flood the entire chamber with lava, and might return if you take too long. I'll let you mess up a path from the small natural bridge to the big one that has been greased.

That's a pretty decent idea; you estimate the ceiling is about 3-5 feet past the layer of fog; a medium creature using Spider Climb would be completely submerged in it and a flying creature could choose to be.

Since you're asking questions and making good plans, I'll give a little time for you to respond to this before kicking things off. If you plan to be clustered for haste, set yourselves up that way. Whoever is pulling the pin needs to be adjacent to it, of course.

Just realized I missed this -- no, flying over the lava flow does not appear to be hazardous, though falling in surely would be.

Also, confirm the plan:

Tiny will pull the pick out, triggering a flurry of actions, depending on initiative:
Jing Kwan recalls Tiny, who drops the pick for Narayan
Narayan takes the pick
Narika casts a snowy fireball
Rhuul casts haste
Sihir ???
Fek ???

If everyone tells me what they plan to do, I can resolve all actions that occur before the Juggernaut all in one post.

That sounds good to me. And we have Tiny fly somehow and attack the hole in the juggernaught with the pick?

Delaying it is only helpful if we are doing something with the time?

Can we sabotage the bridge so it would collapse and the juggernaught fall into the lava?

Level 50 GM
Rhuul Irontoe wrote:

It's pretty solid, so not in any reasonable amount of time.

I will give the scroll of spider climb to Rhuul, so that he can safely be within 30 ft. of melee. Fek's first round action will be to snipe with his hand crossbow, then move to the opposite side of the bridge (still on this side of lava). And he will hopefully alternate hiding and sniping after that. Will roll in Gameplay thread.

Tiny has the "magical flight" evolution. He can fly with perfect manuverability at his normal 30' movement,(60' with haste).

You do not.

So: I've got...

...one fly spell still in need of a beneficiary (if no one else claims it, I will cast it on whoever was talking about using a potion - save it, you've got a Wizard!)...

...various offensive spells and curses of varying likely effectiveness...

...a couple of powerful quantum physics shadow magic spells that could prove to be invaluable or completely ineffective...

...an umbral weapon spell in need of a beneficiary...

...an anti-Evil spell that sounds like it might actually be effective...

...one dispel magic (Don't Leave Home Without It!)...

...a few quasi-defensive spells that are unlikely to help...

...a couple of often-powerful Illusionist hallmarks that I am certain won't work...

...a major image that I could do all sorts of things with (for example, do I know which Good Elemental Lord it was sworn to destroy, and what It was said to look like?)...

...and a couple of harassment/impediment spells of varying likelihood to pose a challenge to this thing.

I can cast the following spells on someone before or during the fight:

- fly
- umbral weapon
- Tenebrous shadowform

Who wants them?

Once that's addressed, my first trick once the combat starts will probably be either snapdragon fireworks or chain of perdition.

Shadowform should definitely go up on Narayan or Tiny, and both should be flying. If both are already flying, I will take that casting though. Umbral weapon would not do me any good though, as I use natural attacks.

Tiny is next to Jing Kwan so that he can get the Haste spell cast on him with everyone else. The he is going to fly to the pick and pull it.

I do not know why Narayan is there.

Level 50 GM

OK, so the idea is that haste is before the pick pull. Got it. Going to give Narayan a little more time to set his token where he wants it. I'm putting Tiny by the pick as the "go" point.

Before the fight starts, I cast:

umbral weapon on Tiny's sword
and
fly and Tenebrous shadowform (DC 23, OR DC 24 and CL 9th IF I could find a dim or darker spot to cast it in) on Narayan.

Sequence of rounds prior to initiative being rolled (since it matters for two of them) are:

-3: fly

-1: shadowform

Your knowledge check was enough to know that they have a 5' reach.

Level 50 GM

With that, the scenario is concluded. I apologize for the little rough patch as we had to rewind the last encounter, but I think in the end you had a challenging-but-enjoyable fight, rather than the splat I almost gave you. :-O

Your primary success condition was to recover Fossilblight and defeat the juggernaut. Check!

Your secondary success condition was to get Old Man Mountain to divert the lava to save both the nagaji village and the unexplored ruins. Check!

Because you did not destroy the mempo Grimgrim, you will receive the "Graveknight’s Gratitude" boon, but will not receive "Ankilhi’s Gratitude"; they are mutually exclusive.
