As you all stand in a secluded office in the Starrise Spire Lodge in Nerosyan, Venture-Captain Jorsal of Lauterbury is stoic yet shows signs of exhaustion as he strides into the room and places a piece of paper on the table.

“Pathfinders, some weeks ago we received this letter from an anonymous source, advising us of the discovery of a Sarkorian site in rural Mendev, near the village of Dawnton. We sent three Pathfinders to perform an initial investigation. Word came to us two days ago that the entire team has been arrested for murder and is scheduled to be hanged in seven days’ time. I would appreciate your traveling to Dawnton, investigating the crimes, and finding any evidence necessary to clear their names.”

He pauses for a moment, as if gathering his will or holding back strong emotion.

“As much as it grieves me to think this possible, you may find evidence that implicates our comrades. If they are guilty of this crime, let them hang. It’s justice of a sort, and we must all remember that we are guests in Mendev and subject to all its laws. Your predecessors’ reputation has tarnished the Pathfinders’ name in Dawnton, so I recommend you not travel and investigate openly as Pathfinders agents. Be careful,” he recommends, “and remember that three comrades are relying on you.”

You may introduce your character, describe him/her, and make a Diplomacy (Gather Information) or Knowledge (Local) roll.

Is there anyone who would benefit from framing the Pathfinders?

Grand Lodge

Fissa, you have to roll one or the other, not both. It doesn't change anything in your case, just saying for the other players.

Fissa:
Dawnton is a small village at the crossroads of the local trade highway and the Setian River, a tributary of the Egelsee. It has a small permanent population, but swells to many times its size on festival days and during the harvest. As with many small villages in the region, Dawnton has become distrustful of strangers since the fall of Kenabres. This distrust is especially virulent toward tieflings and others with demonic roots, influence, or appearance.

"Not that we know of, I'm afraid." Jorsal lets out a deep sigh. "I'm not saying they didn't do this or were framed, but if they were, you need to get to the bottom of this. If the Pathfinder agents were indeed framed, it would be best if you could discover who did so and - most importantly - why."

Silver Crusade

Dawnton? I know of an abbey with a similar name. "Forgive me...but have you mentioned who they are accused of murdering?" Rhydderch thinks for a moment longer. "Any word of what they may have already found out about the burial site?"

M Efreeti Lord of All He Surveys 10 (HP 79/85; AC 33 / T 11 / FF 31 ; F +11, R +6, W +8; Init +2, Perception +11, Darkvision 60') [dice=Power Attack]1d20+19[/dice] [dice=Slashing dmg]3d6+26[/dice] [dice=Fire dmg]1d6[/dice]

Character introduction, occurring prior to Venture-Captain Jorsal's mission overview...

As you sit amidst the Starrise Spire Lodge in Nerosyan, awaiting the arrival of Venture-Captain Jorsal, you note a brief uptick in the room's temperature. The air becomes dry and you are immediately put in mind of that time you adventured in the deserts of Garund. The heat, the dust, the flesh-abrading sand storms and meltemi winds... Perhaps the heat memory is a pleasant one, reminiscent of better climes than Nerosyan offers. For some, the heat may recall a gripping, diabolical atmosphere of pain, danger and intricate formalities easily fumbled.

The door to the Nerosyan lodge opens and the source of the heat and sand-scent becomes immediately apparent. Standing before you is a 6'1 efreeti, his eyes sunken and glowing red. About his neck is a collar, upon which is a single rune in Ignan. In addition, burned across the efreeti's chest in Taldane are the words, "Bound efreeti. NOT a demon. In slightly smaller Taldane letters, burned into the efreeti's stomach, are the word's "Servant to The Breaker of Chains, his Holiness Mareck Bolthune."

The efreeti exudes defeat and despair, his shoulders slumped, his head bowed. The efreeti steps to a weak imitation of military attention and speaks, "May I present Mareq ibn Bolthuni, the Rejected, the Scorned, the Avenger of all Iniquities, Ambassador Percipient to Golarion from the City of Brass, Seeker of All That Is Good, Enemy Of All That Is Evil, and my Most Wonderful, Beatific and Kind Master!"

All can hear plainly the dissonance between the efreeti's words and the reality of the situation. "Wonderful" and "Kind"?

The efreeti bows low and sweeps his hand dramatically towards the door.

Liberty's Edge

Male Ifrit Summoner 10 (HP63/63; AC 20 / T 12 / FF 18; DR5 (fire); F +4, R +5, W +7; Init +2, Perception +0, Diplomacy +18, Kn(a, pl) +13, Darkvision 60')

Following the efreeti in the door, timed with the outsider's introduction perfectly, is a man with fiery red hair, an engaging smile, and a confident stride. Well-dressed in a Keleshite courtier's on-the-road outfit and cloak, he snaps his fingers imperiously at the efreeti.

Knowledge (Planes)?:
Though similar to a Keleshite courtier's outfit, it is more likely the outfit of a minor functionary from the City of Brass' Searing Court. A bureaucrat's uniform. Though the ifrit wearing it behaves as if it the height of fashion and a sign of nobility and sophistication.

"Begone, Dung-Eating Thrall! You have done your duty. Return to your abode until you are needed again!" he says, followed by several words in a mellifluous, yet unnerving language. "والمرة القادمة، والتأكيد على نقاء والخير، ومكافحة شيطاني مزيد من التفاصيل، كنت أحمق! هؤلاء الناس هم أمي رهيب، وبالتأكيد أنا لا أريد أن يشتم على الصليبي والرمح كما لو كنت آخر مرة."

Ignan:
"And next time, emphasize the purity, goodness, anti-demonic details more, you idiot! These people are terribly unlearned and I certainly don't want to be spitted on a crusader's lance like you were last time."

The man holds out a simple oil lamp towards the efreeti and shakes it once, flicking it with his left hand's forefinger, making a tink tink. The sound, for some reason, is one of condescension and for any familiar with the Keleshite left-hand, right-hand customs, terribly rude. The efreeti bows his head again, grimaces, and dissolves into smoke which quickly is sucked into the lamp's mouth.

"Hello, worthy and fellow Pathfinders. I am Mareq ibn Bolthuni al-Shamiri and I would accompany you on this great mission."

The man smiles a winning smile of perfectly aligned teeth and begins circling the room, engaging in small talk.

"Ah, Hiko is it? A lovely name for a lovely woman. I have always been deeply impressed with the perfection espoused by those such as yourself."

"Sir Rhydderch, so pleasant to meet one descended from the Light. Perhaps we can discuss your experiences. I would be honored to hear such glad, brave words to drown out the sad memories of my own upbringing."

"Lord Fissa, your tune delights. So different from the unharmonious caterwauling those Kelesh provincial's call music in Qadira."

He goes on, speaking to each in turn, politely learning their names and shaking their hands, suggesting to each with his humble and interested demeanor that he would be happy to adventure alongside each one them.

As for him, he reveals that he is a native of the City of Brass, having eventually left for Golarion as an ambassador of the City's great vizier. He claims some small efreeti ancestry, thus accounting for his fiery red hair, which some would swear afterwards is actual fire (!). He is a diplomat by trade, but can fire a crossbow at need and bring forth useful magics occasionally. About his efreeti thrall he remains silent, gently and diplomatically changing the subject whenever asked.

“Pathfinders...”

Mareq listens intently to Venture-Captain Jorsal, and then asks the simplest of questions, "What do you consider the most important desire these Dawntonites have? How can we best relate to them and negotiate?"

Ah yes, the sign of a seasoned diplomat, seeking insight and leverage. Mareq, you certainly impress! thinks the ifrit to himself in a congratulatory tone which immediately switches to self-chiding. Or it could be utter foolishness, in these days of demonic invasion and all-out warfare. "Fewer demons eating my children" is likely the answer, fool.

Rhydderch bears only a slight resemblance to his celestial ancestry. Tall and serious looking, his polished armor is meant for utility but could pass as ceremonial in a pinch. He looks upon his newfound companions with an intellectual curiosity. It is not my place to judge. That is Iomedae's job. Mine is simply to carry out her will.

Also going to backtrack a little. Mareck's intro is too good to not get a response. :P
In a spot specifically chosen to avoid other's attention sits a petite woman of obvious Tien decent. Her indeterminate length hair is done up in a bun and kept well off her crimson robe-esque dress. When the welcoming chill disappears from the room she breaks out into a noticeable sweat.

Uhhg, heat, growing up in Halgrim was never good for getting one used to heat. She thinks to her self, only half missing the parties' newest comapanion's introduction. With half her mind involved on her dislike of the temperature, she lackadaisically introduces herself. When addressed first, she starts into a standing position, half out of shock and half out of embarrassment.

"I...uhh.. Thank-you, uh, lord Mareck," she responds sheepishly, with a bow. She then continues in a more confident manner, "I am no where near the perfection I strive for, but thank-you for your kind words. I welcome your accompaniment." She then sits down with a flourish of her kimono and tries to hide her embarrassment over her faux pas. For the rest of the small-talk she avoids talking as much as possible.

A man arrives at the lodge, stepping in out of the dark, his eyes dotted with the red light of darkvision. Clad in secondhand scale mail, with a dark blue tabard, adorned with a white hand print open palmed on the chest. He carries a spear, and has short black cropped hair, upon closer examination you notice two small black horns protrude from just behind his hairline.

Scanning the room, he speaks with a heavy Chelish accent. "Evening fellow pathfinders." he says in a soft spoken tone, sitting at a table with a view of the room.

As with many small villages in the region, Dawnton has become distrustful of strangers since the fall of Kenabres. This distrust is especially virulent toward tieflings and others with demonic roots, influence, or appearance.

The Venture-Captain, pleased with the soothing words of the summoner, answers with a patient tone.

"I'm not really sure, Mareq. You see, this town couldn't be less backwater than it already is. The population there is low, probably taken by their distrust of anything that resembles a demon." At these words, he eyes Bane, then Mareq. "Quite frankly, this town isn't even on a map, and wouldn't be of any importance if it weren't for the fate of our fellow Pathfinders."

After pausing for a momet, he seems to look for something - or someone. "It appears we're still missing one agent before you leave. Has anyone seen a dwarf with a special fondness for Varisian sandwiches on their way?"

We're still missing Jory, I believe.

"Bane of the Darkhand, I believe you will have some difficulty with your appearance. These people are frightened immensely by anything potentially fiendish," says Mareq. "I myself, although my hair is simply red and not actual flames, am wary of superstitions on this planet. The Venture-Captain frowns with exasperation, definitely not too keen on waiting. He calls a clerk, speaks in hushed tones with her, then gets back to you.

Mareq quietly finds a clothier in the local business district and purchases a Qadiran traveler's outfit for himself. He opts for a particularly Saranraite style and prominently displays his newly acquired holy symbol.

Hmmm, perhaps the Lady will look kindly on this mission, although I have yet to really learn about Her, thinks the ifrit.

He adjusts the Qadiran traveler's sash and sets the abundant jewelry across his neck and waist, ostentatious and gaudy. He dons the outfit's short turban, tucking in stray bits of fiery red hair.

Perhaps I should hide in plain sight, as it were, he thinks. A traveling genie binder, full of hilarity and smiles, always ready to command his genie to juggle, dance, and perform the latest witticisms. To further this perception, he buys little bangles, ribbons and bells to hang from Husarq's horns and arms, creating the appearance of a side show attraction. Come see the dancing efreeti!

Hmmm, I'm missing something... he thinks. Ah-ha! A Harrow deck to tell whimsical fortunes and perform amazing tricks! That would work well.

He buys a pack of cards and familiarizes himself with them, twisting them about, shuffling them, twirling them. Soon, he can always pull the right card from the pack.

When his fellow travelers arrive, he proudly performs a few tricks for them.

"Watch carefully, Hiko! Put the card back in. Thank you. Your card is in here and wants to be found. It is.... TA-DA! THE FOOL! No? Ah, well, I shall need some more practice..."

Note for GM Lithrac - Mareq's efreet blood is quite thin and he shows none of the frequent vestigial horns of an ifrit. His father's court whispered behind the lord's back about his weak seed, having fathered such a milk-blooded half-mortal. Indeed, Mareq's entire childhood was spent belittled for his human appearance, his weak magical ability, and his inability to impose himself upon others physically.

Bramelane arrives at the meeting with the Venture-Captain quite late. A human of Chelaxian descent, he rushes into the hall. Despite his advanced age, he is neither sweating nor out of breath despite his obvious dash up the stairs.

Bramelane appears to be in his mid to late 50s. His hair, once black, has gone mostly white. He wears it closely cropped. He has a full beard, which is salt and pepper on the sides and white in front.

He wears a deep blue cotton robe with a matching, triangular chasuble over it, which is a style common to spellcasters in the Mwangi Expanse. His dark, gnarled staff, jade wayfinder, glowing leather bracers, five ioun stones, and spell component pouch mark him as a wizard.

My apologies for joining you late, young Pathfinders! I was speaking with the castellan, comparing professional notes. My name is Bramelane. I look forward to adventuring with you!

After the Venture-Captain dismisses the Pathfinders, on the way out, Bramelane says, "I am a scryer, a specialist in divination magics, and can view things and and hear conversations at a distance. I am hopeful that those abilities will be helpful on what seems to be a detective mission."

"I have studied extensively, both in Sargava and the Mwangi Expanse, and am a specialist in using scrolls. I will pick a few more up before we leave."

Bramelane chases after Mareq as he shops, as Bramelane's clothing is a little to light for Nerosyan. He purchases cold weather gear suitable for a noble's servant (a union suit to go underneath his robes, heavier boots, heavy socks, a coat to go over the robes, a black fur hat, and a black fur muffler). I'll pay 30gp as for a courtier's outfit.

While they shop, he says to Mareq, "I have never met an ifrit before, have you been with the Society for very long?"

Bramelane chats up Mareq, asking him about his exploits. Later, in the evening on the road, he makes notes about the conversation.Bramelane has a boon that will eventually boost his intelligence if he collects stories from 30 Pathfinders, at the rate of one per adventure. Although he has had the boon for almost a year, since I usually judge he has not even collected 1 yet!

"Ah, well, Bramelane, so nice to meet you," says the fiery-haired man. He clears his throat, as if a bit uncomfortable. "Well, my story is not so interesting as yours, I'm sure."

Mareq watches as Bramelane purchases warmer clothing. Mareq alters his own purchasing accordingly, adding warmer undergarments to supplement his ostentatious traveler's outfit.

"My story is one common to the City of Brass. My mother was a slave of the efreet in the City Upon The Flame Sea. I never knew her, but I knew my father. Oh yes. Yes, I knew him. He was a lord there, a pasha of the Cinder Court. Suffice to say, I left. But not before learning something about binding genies."

Bramelane can see Mareq's eyes shift with concealed anger and hate, carefully hidden behind a smile and laugh. But the eyes... oh the eyes do not twinkle.

Mareq smiles, his white teeth showing in a way that reminds Bramelane of a feral animal, recently satiated.

"Hehe. Yessss, I learned a thing or two."

Cold oozes from the summoner's eyes and a chill, perhaps, runs down Bramelane's back at the sound of Mareq's words. An undertone of unbalance, a frisson of insanity carries across the air from Mareq to Bramelane.

Perception DC5:
As Mareq speaks, he repeatedly strokes a small brass lamp hanging from his waist, his knuckles whitening with the intensity.

Kn(planes) DC??:
An ifrit is technically the descendent of a fire genie, so Mareq should, from his story, be a half-genie and much much more powerful. A contradiction, it seems.

"This is the farthest north I have ever been! I am a bit concerned about approaching the Worldwound, even if it is on a straightforward detective mission. Have you ever fought the denizens of the Abyss before? Have your travels ever taken you to the Continent of Garund, or only here to Avistan?"

Bramelane considers what he knows about Dawnton, casting guidance first to aid his aging recollection.

Knowledge(local): 1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 10 + 1 = 26

When the Pathfinders are all together again, he addresses them, "Hiko, Rhydderch, and Bane, it's a pleasure to be travelling with you all, and with the Ambassador."

"Do you have any thoughts on concealing our identities on this mission?" he asks, tucking his jade wayfinder into his bag of holding. "Beyond that obvious one, of course."

"I have to admit, I was never very good at lying. I don't mind it when it's necessary. However, people tend to be able to sense that I'm not telling the truth."

Silver Crusade

"Lying only creates larger problems in the long run. If the truth should not serve your purpose it is better to say nothing at all."

"Aye, Rhydderch, I must agree on that point," says Mareq. "In the fine art of diplomacy, it is always better to avoid lying. Discovered, it diminishes your credibility during negotiations, both current and future. Undiscovered, it complicates your own strategies and attempts at finding the truth. I have heard it said, 'Don't lie and you won't have to remember what you said.' "

Mareq shifts his outfit.

"Look at me. I plan on having Husarq dance and sing for our amusement and the amusement of those in Dawnton. Should I be asked, I shall say I am a summoner, a binder of genies, and I'm worried about potential misunderstandings about Husarq and myself. Thus I have attempted to provide as inoffensive an impression as possible, by dressing gaudily and offering amusements."

"I too am not planning on disguising my religious followings or ties, but why I am there might be a bit more... fuzzy. I guess one could say a mission has some similarities with a pilgrimage, or a holy endeavor of some sort..." Hiko states and then muses while looking over the clothes at the stand both Bramelame and Mareck found their clothes at, and picks out a modest outfit that, minus some red trimming, would not look out of place on a monk, which is, surprise-surprise, a monk's outfit.
After muttering to herself throughout the transaction, she comes up to the rest of the group and asks, "How problematic would it be if I acted as if I only could understand and speak Tien? Wait can anyone else speak Tien? That might not work..."

"The people of Dawnton may realize that you understand the common tongue. One slip could have dire consequences, as the Ambassador has suggested."

"Perhaps we should stick to a portion of the truth: We are travelling to Dawnton on our own business, which we would prefer not to discuss. The Ambassador wishes to amuse the locals. Given that they host festival days, it may work out that a festival is near. If one is just past, we can honestly claim disappointment that we missed it, as one would provide great cover for our actions."

"For myself, I can truthfully state that I have lead a quiet, sheltered existence to date, albeit in a land that many of you consider exotic, but which to me is just home. I am interested in visiting new places and perhaps assisting the Crusade."

"Priestess, which god or goddess do you serve? I have not had the pleasure of travelling to fair and far Tien-Xia. However, I hear that many of the same deities are worshipped there that are worshipped here and in Garund. As you have said, you could claim to be on a religious mission."

At the mention of Tian-Xia the cleric bursts out in a much quicker language that, on reflection, accounts for slight her slight accent.
"Miksi kaikki olettavat Olen kotoisin Tian?"

Skald, though I don't mind anyone reading it:
Why does everyone assume I am from Tian?

After a calming breath or two she continues at a much more reasonable pace in Taldane, "You make a good point, sir, I would readily be found out if I had done such a foolish act. As for my deity, I adhere to the teachings of the Master of Masters," with this she flourishes a hand towards Bane before continuing, "and have spent some time in Tian-Xia. At that time I was primarily working for the Pathfinders; however I did pick up some habits. Mostly I grew up in Halgrim under the just leadership of Estrid the White, and it was there I found my calling."

"But I must be boring you with all this talk... I think the plan for attempting to attend a festival is a good one, Irorians are known for following their own chosen holidays and how can one choose without experiencing one first? As for when we these people are liable to have a festival, my friend Fissa here may know..."

Bramelane blushes at his mistaken assumption. "I beg your pardon, Hiko, given your obvious lineage and your question about speaking Tien, I assumed you were from beyond the Crown of the World. I myself come from a distant and essentially abandoned colonial outpost on the west coast of Garund. I am therefore woefully ignorant. I am glad to learn that there are people of Tien descent living in the cold north of Avistan, and I am not surprised to learn that the Enlightened One is revered there!"

"What a fascinating place and what an intersting ruler. Have you had the good fortune to meet Queen Estrid? Or is it proper to say King Estrid, given that she is a Linnorm King? More importantly, as a member of Irori's clergy, is there an honorific with which we should properly address you?"

While the Pathfinders walk and talk, Bramelane subconsciously falls into the role of high-ranking servant, summoning an unseen servant and directing it perform small errands: holding Hiko's purchases as she pays for them, returning the cups the Pathfinders use when they stop to buy refreshments as they walk through Nerosyan, and opening doors for the Pathfinders when they enter and leave establishments.

"Hmmm. One could hope that these people of Dawnton will know a demon, from a devil, from a genie," muses Mareq, nearly to himself. "It nearly makes sense to travel away from parts of Avistan unfamiliar with demons to a place that can tell a demon from a genie. Since they have unfortunate experience with demons..."

Mareq's musings dwindle to silence and inner thoughts:

It is pressing upon my mind that all of these Pathfinders and Andorens look askance at Husarq and my right to control him and keep him from enslaving the children of Golarion. He regularly did this before the Grand Vizier had him killed in Fommok Madinah. This is known. And the damned Chelish keep grinning, as if I am a despicable slaver like them. I am a prison warden. Yes, that is right. A prison warden keeping the dangerous and perfidious from assaulting the world! Yes. That's it.

"A visit to backwater is just what I need. Regardless of what the Society needs or wants!"

The unbalanced, very fluid psyche of one Mareq ibn Bolthuni flows back and forth through the sea of justification.

Bramelane continues to try to get Mareq to talk about his exploits so that Bramelane can expand his own understanding of the world. "So, Ambassador, I heard tongues wagging at the Lodge saying that an ifrit accompanied by an efreet was joining us from Osirion. I though that odd, as genies are more closely associate with the Padishah Empire of Kelesh, and you clearly dress in the Qadiran style. Have you just come from some mission to Osirion, or do the gossips have it wrong this time?"

Bramelane:
Dawnton is a small village at the crossroads of the local trade highway and the Setian River, a tributary of the Egelsee. It has a small permanent population, but swells to many times its size on festival days and during the harvest. As with many small villages in the region, Dawnton has become distrustful of strangers since the fall of Kenabres. This distrust is especially virulent toward tieflings and others with demonic roots, influence, or appearance.

Tobias Luin is both the village’s sheriff and mayor. Local opinion holds that he is fair to the point of being soft. It is unusual that he would hold an execution, but local law calls for a vote of the citizenry to decide the fate of those guilty of capital crimes.

There are rumors of similar brutal crimes in other villages near Dawnton. When a guilty party was found in those cases, execution was always the result.

You were given a few hours to pack and prepare before beginning you journey across southern Mendev. Your journey is swift though the closer you come to your destination, the more you begin to notice travelers along the road heading the same way, excited to see the imminent execution of "demon-worshipping evil doers".

Dawnton is little more than the crossroads of a highway and a navigable river, and its population barely exceeds 100 during most of the year. Because of this crossroads, though, as many as 3,000 people converge on the settlement just after the harvest to transfer crops from wagons to barges. In the off season, more than half the village’s buildings lie empty, awaiting their seasonal tenants’ return. At the peak of harvest season, a tent city forms in the fields east of town to house and support the surplus population. It is not harvest season, but Dawnton is crowded with visitors who have come to witness the executions. Despite the morbid circumstances, the villagers see this as an unexpected opportunity to gossip, barter, and celebrate, giving much of the village a festive atmosphere complete with games and drunken revelry. At night, most of the village becomes eerily quiet as people retire and fearfully watch the shadows for signs of more murderers or demons. A portion of the tent city remains active long into the night.

As you walk into town, the first thing you notice is a group of children running around one of the farms. Two girls and a boy wearing makeshift play platemail and armed with sticks are chasing around another boy and girl of the same age. The boy being chased has his face coved in dirt to serve as paint for a more demonic appearance, while the girl has a small smooth stone from the river tied to her belt about the same size as a wayfinder. It's obvious they are playing a child's game of "Crusaders and Pathfinders", a small hint that your allegiance is not welcome here.

Mareq and Husarq get noticed really quickly, in amusement for some of the children playing, yet with distrust from many other townsfolk. However, the looks are quickly averted for one reason or other.

It is Moonday evening when you arrive in Dawnton. Two full days remain until your fellow Pathfinders are executed - Oathday morning. So little time for your seemingly hopeless endeavor...

Welcome to Dawnton! This scenario uses a specific mechanic for the investigation phase, relying on individual actions rather than actions as a group. If you have played social scenarios like The Blakros Matrimony, that'll give you a good idea of how the system works.

Phases
You have seven phases (Moonday evening, Toilday morning, Toilday afternoon, Toilday evening, Wealday morning, Wealday afternoon and Wealday evening) during which you may act as you see fit to try and accomplish your mission. Every phase, each one of you can visit a one location (see map in the campaign header, though more locations may be uncovered over the course of the investigation, of course). Some locations are driven by story, like the Sheriff's office, whereas others are simply places where you can gather rumors or testimonies. For the latter, a visiting character will be allowed one roll per phase to determine the information he will gather there during the phase. The roll you make will depend on what location you visit. At the end of each phase you'll meet with the rest of the group to share information, and events may happen at that time.

Undercover investigation
Those who display fiendish features (this applies to Bane mainly) can attempt to hide them with a daily Disguise check at the beginning of each day, starting right now.

In the same fashion, you can attempt to make a stealthy investigation to avoid attracting attention. In this case, each of you will be able to attempt a Bluff, Disguise or Stealth check at the end of the first phase of each day.

Locations
After a short inquiry, you are shown where the following places of interest are located: Orug's General Store & Barber Shop (A), Health and Harvest Inn (B), Sheriff's House and Town Jail (C), Fairgrounds, the Tent City (D), and the Beer Garden (E).

I'll let each of you declare what they intend to do for the first phase (Moonday evening).

"Fellow Pathfinders, in Nerosyan I heard that the local sheriff, Tobias Luin, is quite fair and even soft. Although there have been similar brutal crimes in other villages nearby that have resulted in executions, it is unusual for Sheriff Luin to hold one. A vote of the citizens is required to determine the sentence in a capital crime."

"Since there have been other crimes in other villages leading to other executions, and since Sheriff Luin is not generally the type to prosecute someone to the point of execution, perhaps someone is putting pressure on him or the local population."

Bramelane strokes his beard, contemplating where to start. I will go get a trim and see what I can learn at the general store and barber shop. Perhaps each of you could go and see what there is to learn at the other locations in town and we can regroup this evening to compare notes?

Bramelane heads for the barber shop to hear the local gossip, peruse the local goods, and get a trim.

".It was only through the virtue of my parents being advisers in matters of magic to the queen that I was able to meet her at all. However, since a young age, I was so afraid of her linnorm Boiltounge that I avoided her and the throne room as much as possible...I have no preferred honorific, other than just plain Hiko."

Hiko, having been successfully brought out of her shell, starts espousing stories from her childhood, highlighting her older and younger brothers, her complete failure at arcane magic, and her parents abject disappointment in 'failing to fall in the family tradition of magic'. After a bit she starts inquiring after Bramelane's own history, only swapping her stories for ones of his own.

After having slept for the night she spends and hour in silent meditation and physical activity.
She is going to prepare:
0 level - Guidance, Light, Create water, and Spark (I would love to prepare Enhanced Diplomacy but I don't have the source book, sigh...)
1st level - Bless [domain], remove sickness, remove fear, and detect evil
2nd level - Bull's strength, Owl's wisdom, and Eagle's splendor.

After the group arrives in town, Hiko expresses her interest in the tent city.
