Ugh, boards ate a BIG post.

TL:DR

I have a 9th level cleric of Iomedae. Would it be cool or annoying for him to play alongside Hedra, the supposed cleric of Aroden.

I also have a wizard 6. Happy to hang in back and let others do the heavy lifting (Transmuter).

I think there's some top secret reason cleric appears in italics. Only in a home game could someone rule that you actually get powers from him, AFAIK.

Oswin would be very curious how, if Aroden returned, Iomedae hasn't communicated it to her faithful.

Exactly. I noticed that some if my other characters have been in games with others belonging to Hedra's player. My initial "this is shenanigans" and "I don't need liar PC's" went away. I trust it'll be handled in a fun way, and I am pretty excited to see how it all plays out where divine magic and worshipping gods is illegal!

With rogue, wizard, and a pair of clerics, it looks like we could use the fighter, but he's only 5th level. I will trust the cleric and the cleric to keep him alive and he can help out on the front line as needed.

Ok, that gives us five with an APL between tiers. Does that mean playing up or down in Season 5?

It seems like it would be playing low tier. If so, I'd much prefer to bring my own wizard 6 to the game.

Playing high would be tough. Only I have an iterative attack. Monsters would reliably hit AC 22 for Orik and Rikas.

I only channel 3 a day. With 18 STR, 14 CON, and +2 weapon, armor and shield, Oswin is built to be the old 3.5 Clericzilla (see Divine Favor and Righteous Might). He rarely get to showcase any of that, and is often just a bystander. But having to be a band-aid would be frustrating too.

I only say this because I built the character to work a certain way. If I'm just going to be frustrated again, I'll rather bring a different character and a different mindset.

I figure it's best to be frank and open about this.

Any thoughts?

A party of five to seven characters whose APL is between two subtiers must play the higher tier with the four-character adjustment.

Rikas relies on throwing and, usually, can get a 4d8 sneak attack in. That's his build. Even if he has to get into a melee flank to do it. Oozes and things immune to precision damage still suck...

Thank you for reminding me, however, to grab some AC boosts. Not much, but a ring of protection and an amulet of natural armour are a long time coming.

If we are that keen on playing down, I can bring an alchemist 5, though again it seems we're already looking at a group of squishies (battle-ceric excepted)

I don't really want to play down. I'd prefer the higher tier. And I completely forgot the 4 player adjustment, which makes me worry a lot less.

That said, I want to be effective. It may benefit us if I stow the shield and two-hand the sword for better damage. Boots of striding or boots of speed would net more speed and potentially more attacks.

Scrolls of Liberating command or Freedom of movement for maybe Hedra to hang on to if I'm grappled. But Hedra and our wizard might end combats with magic.

I have a hair over 18k gp saved up. I can +3 the sword and up my AC or buy some other very useful item(s).

Just looking for ideas. We ought to be able to handle things, but with current party we probably need to work together a bit. I may be wrong. The casters might make things ridiculously easy.

So enough stressing on my part. I'll be ready, we'll kick butt, and have fun doing it!

I get the same gold whether up or down, so I'm good :-P

Side note, I did run this scenario shortly after release. Don't remember much but will try not to spoil anything. Except that it takes place in a port. That's godless. Shocking, huh?

I'll let you decide on which PC you bring to the table, but I'll just say this. It's definitely a scenario in which you don't want to bring a level 5 to a subtier 8-9 table. A couple encounters can get really ugly for them.

EDIT: Especially if you're 5 at the table.

I have also GM this adventure a long time ago.

Hedra - Cleric 9
Orik - Fighter 5
Oswin - Cleric 9
Rikas - Rogue 7 (bringing a lvl 5 instead won't help the tier)
Ardisen - Wizard 6

Since it looks like we're all pretty set on the party make-up (and it's not a bad group, to be sure!), I am confident that we should be able to handle the 8-9 sub-tier with the 4 player conversion.

Unless my math is wrong, there is no way we can play down, even with another 5th lvl coming into the mix. The best we can hope for right now is the 4 player conversion. And I'm okay with that.

Well, I'm game if you guys are! I'm nervous that I may have oversold Oswin's melee prowess and now I'll only roll 3's or lower...

Anyway, I'm leaning heavily towards enchanting the sword to +3 to deal with material DR. I can make it holy once a day with my domain power, and I would bet having oils of bless weapon wouldn't hurt given the season in question.

But I have been thinking about my spells and buffs. Blessing of Fervor is a great substitute for haste. I see that trasmutation is an opposed school for Ardisen, so his focus will be elsewhere (as I'd expect given he is an enchanter).

I don't currently own Ultimate Campaign, but if I did then I could retrain into the Heroism subdomain and throw out 9 rounds/day of Aura of Heroism. In one round that would grant the martials up to a +4 bonus to hit (or +2 with an extra attack), which would be very powerful, and I could save Divine Favor for other things. Yes, it's so good I'm tempted to buy the book just to retrain into that.

I am thinking of buying a wand of shield and handing it to Ardisen. I'd just ask for a tap before entering rooms, etc. if it comes up, not for him to burn a combat action. I'd be happy to share with Rikas or Orik (if he wants to stow his shield as well).

Would that be OK Ardisen?

Grand Lodge

M Dwarf 5 Fighter HP 49/49; AC 22/11/21; F+7, R+4, W+2* | Init +2 | Percept +6* | SM +0 |

Would you mind using my wand of CLW from time to time as well, Oswin? The shield is part of Orik's game (shielded fighter after all). He does have the Saving Shield feat, which allows a +2 shield bonus to an adjacent ally as an immediate action. That could help Rikas or Ardisen also.

Silver Crusade

Good point on the Shielded fighter bit! And yes, wands and scrolls I am happy to use. Let's consider it our SOP that he'll top off anyone who wants it between fights.

Oswin won't leave an ally to die on the battlefield either. I will have Breath of Life prepped for the real emergencies, too.

Again, maybe I'm just over-worrying.

I did GM this one last year as well. I'm fighting the urge to read up on the baddies...but I won't I promise!

My group shredded the encounters thanks to gaining surprise and having a fully buffed invisible Kensai magus one-shot the BBEG in what amounted to a surprise round. We may have it a bit tougher than that, but still I think we can do it.

Aye, I don't recall details, but the group I ran trounced most things just by playing smart. Also, had one semi-OP caster.

I can't think of anything. Maybe I shoulda looked into a BoL scroll since if I die, I'm dead, hahaha. (Already owe the Society for bringin' me back before, so no prestige, and would have to sell crap for a raise dead... ah well, get to bridge before crossing.)

How much is one? (Looks like 1,125 GP from CRB) I will keep one BoL in a slot, and have plenty of GP to grab a spare. Just don't get too far away from me!

And if Hedra can cast it as well, I could be convinced to let her carry the scroll. I don't have spring-loaded wrist sheaths nor do I own Adventurer's Armory.

I will be leaving my shield behind. It hurts AC, but with a giant symbol of Iomedae painted on it, and the possible need for a free hand I think it'll be better.

So if you don't mind Ardisen, I would appreciate you getting the wand of shield after all.

So for me:

Upgrade sword from +2 to +3: 10,000 GP
Upgrade armor from +2 tp +3: 5,000 GP
Scroll of Breath of Life: 1,125 GP

I have a couple thousand kicking around. Any other good ideas for purchase?

Is that it? Then yes, I will purchase one and request Oswin carry it as well.

Total purchases:
Amulet of Natural Armor +1 - 2000gp
Ring of Protection +1 - 2000 gp
Scroll of Breath of Life - 1125 gp

And ready to start whenever the GM is. =)

Alright, let's start!

Character levels are 5, 5, 7, 9, 9.

Or is Ardisen level 6? If so, please update his character sheet.

APL is 7 or 7.2, depending on whether Ardisen is level 5 or 6, respectively. It doesn't change anything for the subtier determination though, since you'll play the higher subtier with 4-player adjustment.

Good luck, Pathfinders!

I will be leaving tomorrow morning for a weekend getaway with the family. Likely won't have Internet access the whole weekend. Will be back Sunday evening.

Should be able to post tonight after work. Maybe again during the layover tomorrow.

I'm back from my vacation, and two days of convention.

Ardisen: No problem at all if you want to attempt one of the goals on your faction card during the scenario. Let me know what you attempt to do/have done when the time's right.
