GM Lithrac |
Discussion thread is open. As I've mentioned in the previous campaign thread, I'll be very busy this weekend, so this game will probably only start on Monday. Feel free to dot both threads, update your character and make any purchases in the meantime.
For now party composition appears to be:
EF - Atum - Fighter/Living Monolith 10
RyckyRych - Faldoc - Ranger 9
Tektite - Arnthoth - Barbarian 8
Khelreddin - Terrill - Inquisitor 8 or 9?
Derek - Osric - Ranger 10
WerePox - Darius - Magus 10
APL would be 9.1 or 9.3, so high APL with 6 people. If you want to change the character you'll be playing with, feel free to do so until we start.
Oh, and please post your PFS # here and check your Perception/Initiative/Sense Motive modifiers on the Campaign Info tab once you've decided which character you'll play.
Atum Nakhti |
Atum is here!
#55162-2
modifiers have not changed, campaign tab looks up to date
Faldoc Tisbane |
PFS # 79644-2
Faction : Andoran
Hunting Lodge (Survival) Day Job: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (2) + 13 = 15
Terrill Mayern |
PFS#: 80015-1
Faction: Andoran
No day job
Terrill will likely be 9th level by Monday. I do hope this is a scenario that calls for things to be beaten to a pulp, because this is the party to do it.
Any thoughts on ideal items for our swim? Air crystals? Should we actually spring for spendier magical stuff? I'd hate to drown at this level due to stinginess, but I don't want to buy an item I'll never use either.
Atum Nakhti |
Potions of Touch of the Sea (50 gp) might be nice to take on the first round of combat. Potions of Water Breathing are a must I think (750 gp each). I bought two. Air crystals are a nice backup, as is an air bladder. Bottles of Air are nice but expensive (but can also be used for altitude situations or to avoid cloud spells and stench effects if you use it all the time, or if you want to climb into your Portable Hole indefinitely).
Freedom of Movement is too high level for potions but could be useful if someone can prepare it or cast it from a scroll.
Osric Longstride |
There's also the popular necklace of adaptation. A mere 9,000 GP, but you can constantly breathe underwater, and never have to make a save on a cloudkill or stinking cloud, or similar, ever again.
Darius Swiftblade |
Dotting.. Have a busy weekend so ill update when i can.. For sure buying some pots and a scroll or two.. I am buying that invis and lesser resto wand for 2520
45225-7
My stats will not change..
GM Lithrac |
My 2 copper pieces: 2 pp for 50 charges of touch of the sea are a worthwhile investment (1 minute duration per cast).
Good point about the Freedom of Movement wand on the Sealed Gate CS, it's an amazing deal, especially for divine casters or UMD users.
One more thing: You automatically switch to your new faction name (Andoran becomes Liberty's Edge, etc.), but if you want to change to another faction (you're entitled one free faction change during season 6), please notify me as soon as possible!
The factions would be the following if no one uses their free faction change:
Atum: Osirion -> Scarab Sages
Osric: Silver Crusade (no change)
Faldoc and Terrill: Andoran -> Liberty's Edge
Arnthoth: Grand Lodge (no change)
Darius: Sczarni -> The Exchange
Also, since Faldoc already rolled his DJ: Osric and Atum, I assume you'll take +1pp from your Borderland Keep instead of a DJ roll? Darius, you can also roll your DJ now.
Darius Swiftblade |
THe wand is a good point.. Ill but the FoM as well..
Take ten for day job = 25 craft tattoo's
Ill also spend 750 on a water breathing pot and a potion sponge for 2gp..
Ill spend 2 pp on the touch of sea wand..
2432 gp spent
Atum Nakhti |
Yep, I'll be taking the +1 PP for day job.
Terrill Mayern |
Ok, I'll pick up some potions of water breathing, and a potion or tow of touch of the sea, as a backup in case Darius can't tap one of us with the wand. I'll be playing 1 or 2 scenarios this weekend, so may have some other doodads to buy when I'm done with that.
Faldoc Tisbane |
Hmm, guess I'll buy a potion of water breathing, and a few scrolls of freedom of movement since its on the ranger list. Question though, would that enable me to use a bow underwater?
I'd buy the necklace of adaptation but then I can't buy the FoM scrolls. Bah.
GM Lithrac |
Ranged Attacks Underwater: Thrown weapons are ineffective underwater, even when launched from land. Attacks with other ranged weapons take a –2 penalty on attack rolls for every 5 feet of water they pass through, in addition to the normal penalties for range.
Freedom of Movement
School abjuration; Level bard 4, cleric 4, druid 4, ranger 4
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S, M (a leather strip bound to the target), DF
Range personal or touch
Target you or creature touched
Duration 10 min./level
Saving Throw Will negates (harmless); Spell Resistance yes (harmless)
This spell enables you or a creature you touch to move and attack normally for the duration of the spell, even under the influence of magic that usually impedes movement, such as paralysis, solid fog, slow, and web. All combat maneuver checks made to grapple the target automatically fail. The subject automatically succeeds on any combat maneuver checks and Escape Artist checks made to escape a grapple or a pin.
The spell also allows the subject to move and attack normally while underwater, even with slashing weapons such as axes and swords or with bludgeoning weapons such as flails, hammers, and maces, provided that the weapon is wielded in the hand rather than hurled. The freedom of movement spell does not, however, grant water breathing.
Unfortunately I think that normal rules apply, Faldoc.
Faldoc Tisbane |
Hmm, this might not be a good scenario for Faldoc then. Since this is my only 7-11 character I may need to drop out since I'll be of little help to the party.
Faldoc Tisbane |
That's also true. Well, its not like I can't swing a sword. I'll give it a shot if the rest of the party doesn't think it a bad idea.
Osric Longstride |
I think we have enough up close and deadly types. Osric carries a Greataxe for times like these, but is way better at range. But with Darius, Atum, Terrill and Arnthoth, we may just get to kick back.
I will buy 2 potions of water breathing. My reading indicates that each has a duration of 10 hours when used on a single subject. Should be way more than adequate.

Darius Swiftblade |
I have no issues with another healer, but then again i see no probs with overkill dps either..
Btw I forgot to re-up my spell tats so paying for that now.. 875 spent on that..
Terrill Mayern |
Does anyone think a Level 9 Flinders (Bard archaeologist) might be of more use for this scenario?
I think that would be a useful switch to make, if it's still going to be fun for you.
Atum Nakhti |
Sticking with Scarab Sages for Atum.
Terrill Mayern |
Terrill will continue to fight for liberty, thanks.
By the way, I have an extremely busy weekend coming up, so will likely be posting very little if at all. Bot me if needed.
Osric Longstride |
Silver Crusade all the way.

Terrill Mayern |
Hey Gang - we seem a bit hung up at the moment. There seems to be a slight leaning toward the view that we don't really need to attack the two guards at the top of the tower, and since we know our Chelish pirate friend isn't up here, we can start making our way down and still be invisible.
Any objections to proceeding that way, so we can, you know, proceed?
Darius Swiftblade |
Thats what im thinking.. I know most scenerio's are railroaded into the party killing every living thing in sight, but I think we might have some options here other than destroy all life, even though a few of them prob deserve it..
I vote we head down invis. If nothing else we save resources if we go undetected..
Atum Nakhti |
Yeah, heading down invisible is fine with me. I was just concerned that they'd come up behind us once we try to escape though. But we might be able to pull it off without alerting them.
Terrill Mayern |
A couple of things:
1. Page 23 of the PFS guide says "you must buy ammunition in full lots (typically 10 or 20 for mundane ammunition and 50 for magical ammunition)" - so you can buy mundane cold iron arrows in bundles of 20. And, interestingly, durable arrows come in lots of 1 arrow, so you can buy an single adamantine durable arrow for 61 gp and use it forever.
2. I still don't know if there are any ships tied up to the pier - can you tell us that, Lithrac?
Atum Nakhti |
Re: 1. Yes, I believe you are correct. The lots of 50 rule usually applies to magical ammunition, not special materials. However (as I have just discovered), if you use HeroLab you can only buy special material arrows in lots of 50 because that's just the way it is programmed.
GM Lithrac |
(...)
"Rescue, eh? I would think it comes at a price, especially from the Society. Sure, I'll take you to my ship. Anything to be out of this Chelish jail. Anyway, a Chelish prison ship is due to come and take me back to Egorian for trial, so I'd rather not be here at that time. You'll be my bodyguards, then. Good! Come, me mateys, let's get one of the ships at the docks. That three-masted ships is one I know well, and stealing from her will make it all the sweeter!"
(...)
I believe I've answered that question, Terrill. Yes, there is a ship tied up.
Terrill Mayern |
Sorry, didn't mean to be a pain about it. I had asked earlier if we could see any ships when we looked at the bastion from a distance and we could not. I thought perhaps he thought his ship was tied up there, but that he was wrong, if he couldn't see it from his cell.
On another note - does Terrill almost cutting the sailor in half mean the sailor is down, or just wounded?
Terrill Mayern |
Yep, arcane mark is a well-known magus trick. Easy way to get that second attack. It's not really as cheesy as it sounds; you're at a -2 to attack so you're basically just two-weapon fighting except probably with a one-handed weapon instead of two light weapons. So only slightly better really.
I am ignorant in the ways of the magus, and have always found them a bit confusing. Can someone explain this to me?
I assume there's no particular value to casting arcane mark in this situation? It's just that you need to cast something, and this meets that need? And thus he gets the free melee attack from Spellstrike?
Darius Swiftblade |
Anytime i cast a melee touch spell i can deliver it through my blade with spellstrike with full bonuses to hit and damage along with it. Being a 0 level touch spell Arcane Mark lets me spellstrike all day long even if I run outa spells..
For most magus's this would be for minimal extra damage as most only have slight modifiers to their base weapon damage and rely more on spell damage to make this good.. I have decent pluses to damage so its much better for me.
Terrill Mayern |
Got it. And arcane mark is the only zero-level touch spell on the magus list, so that's what gets used. Never seen that before, thanks.
Darius Swiftblade |
Right.. It's only useful when you can do spell combat as well though, so only in a full attack action.. The Arcane Mark i mean.
Spellstrike itself though is a standard that can be used on a charge as well though.. It also doesn't require 1 hand free so you can swing your weapon 2 handed and use it as well..
Darius Swiftblade |
Unless its been changed Terril Bane Baldric doesn't give you access to Greater Bane early. Your bane damage would just be 2d6 until you actually reached 12th level.. You also need to add the 2d6 damage to your 2nd attack.
Terrill Mayern |
Yeah, I'be been a bit unsure about that, since I just got the baldric. Hero Lab defaults to Greater Bane with the baldric, and the rules discussions on the board seem to point the opposite direction. So the path of least resistance has been to leave it as Hero Lab sets it up, but it seems I need to fix that.
I've adjusted the bane damage to 2d6. The second roll was not a second attack, it was a crit confirmation and damage roll, so it doesn't add bane damage.
Also, I moved Darius slightly on the map, since he was in the only square Terrill could move to and still attack, and Terrill acted before Darius. I didn't move him when I posted earlier because I was on my phone.
Darius Swiftblade |
Thats fine.. Yea i have a 9th level Inqusitor as well and ran into the same issue with the Baldric and done some research.
I found this by JJ Link
And while he is not the law when it comes to PFS, he normally has a good take on things.

Already preparing the next game in the 7-11 range, #5-05 "The Elven Entanglement". I'm posting here since all four available players for it are in this group (Tektite, Derek, Khrel, WerePox).
The thing is that you'll be available as soon as this game ends (as soon as you've made your mind about Alazario's fate, in fact), but the other two people who signed up for #5-05 aren't currently available (Ace has just begun "The Stranger Within" with me, and Aarvid's two characters have just started new scenarios). It leaves us two possibility, and I'll let you pick the one you prefer:
1) Wait until Ace and/or Aarvid are available. This runs the risk of not having all of you be free at the same time again in the future.
2) Start now with four players, knowing that you're a solid group but that the scenario is far from being as easy as "No Plunder, No Pay" was. There's a four-player adjustment, though. Extra recruitment is doubtful to be successful in that level range, but we might try it.
What do you guys think?
