Ffffffffuuuuuuuuull refund at the end of this adventure please? Oops... For what it's worth I still have a slotted clear spindle ioun stone that I was intending to get rid of at some point but I'm still wearing for lack of a better one. That has the same effect but for evil only. If that doesn't work here's my will save rolls:
Lady #1: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
Lady #1 Saving Finale: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
Lady #2: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13 crap
Lady #3: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
+4 to any of those if they are sonic or language dependant.
If the ioun stone doesn't have the same result, bot and retcon me as most convenient to move the plot along and we can discuss how to handle the illegal armor choice in the background.
Avelina of Mendev |
Worse case scenario, Avelina can shake you out of it. At the moment, it's more important for her to keep the melee people in the fight, as her spells aren't as effective.
Solomon Goodman |
I got the mind buttressing armor to boost my overall will save and ended up keeping the slotted ioun stone in case I needed to drop it on a barbarian at the start of the scenario. It should be a pretty simple deal to revert that decision as it was made extremely recently and has only now come into effect, but I'll leave that to our lord and master^H^H^H^H^H^H storyteller to adjudicate how that will be handled. Before it was merely +2 breastplate and I used the clear spindle ioun stone slotted in the wayfinder as any good uncreative pathfinder scared of being dominated does. I'd be happy to jump back to that and perform a different armor upgrade after this scenario if that would be allowed.

I was off work and had a busy day today so I'm just catching up now.
This encounter was a bit odd. It's one of those things that tends to happen when you go with a theme and then plug in monsters of varying CR that fit the theme without thinking about it too closely.
"There is a single surviving rebel in each subtier of the same type as the hostile creatures, but reduced to 10% of its starting hit points."
In this case, the creatures were nereids. What attacks do they have?
Melee touch +10 (poison)
Ranged spray +15 touch (poison)
Great, except nereids are immune to poison, so apparently they all had a slap fight to the death.
"The water creatures here all have the sickened condition as the cold environment makes them sluggish. Subtier 1–2's encounter CR is treated as 2 lower due to the elementals' lower attack and damage modifiers resulting from water mastery."
Nereids do have the water subtype, but they are also immune to cold, so why would it bother them?
GM Mike Hallet |
Sorry everyone. I got called to handle an issue with work, and I've been on one call for over 8 hours now.
Avelina of Mendev |
My fiancée just graduated with their BA today, and we are going to visit their parents for the week, so I've been crazy busy myself.
Solomon Goodman |
That's 104 F btw, which is 40 C for the rest of the world who is smart enough to use a well anchored unit of temperature.
Of course in my industry I get to use degrees Rankine...
**goes to cry in a corner**

If you feel like an encounter is going against you, you can always retreat and try a different path. The only real thing you lose is time.
Shifty |
Yeah this encounter is 100% silly, start out in a tiny box, and get smashed, or move out into a fog through x4 terrain (so you can't 5' step or avoid AOO's) you can't do anything about whilst a bunch of creatures just sneak attack you to pieces from range and you continually take cold damage. Yeah, nah.
Solomon Goodman |
Admittedly, I'm actually enjoying it, mostly because retreat and regroup IS an option and that's a perfect time to subject the party to things that really get them out of their comfort zone. I'm happy to try for a retreat (as mentioned in my gameplay post).
Sielan |
I don't want to be too down on the encounter, but at the very least this doesn't seem to be a fun encounter for the group and it looks like it would take quite a while even if it went well.
Shifty |
It's not so much out of the comfort zone but rather a big game of stuck in the mud and unavoidable damage, meanwhile making it difficult for melee to even participate except as punching bags. Need to move out of the ambush zone, because the fog is harming us AND they don't have the same miss chance we do.
Happy to either scoot past them or just back out and try another route.
Avelina of Mendev |
I mean, worst case scenario, I can d-door people, have a scroll of teleport, and a CL 18 scroll of greater teleport, so I'm okay still fighting. I just don't like it when people aren't having fun, so I'm good checking out
Solomon Goodman |
Hey... feeling rather stupid here but I seem to have forgotten to include one of my feats on my buff description which may be rather pertinent... Whenever I'm using a performance, allies within 30 ft of me do an additional 1d6 sonic damage due to Discordant Voice. This includes ranged attacks, and attacks being made by allies who are not currently accepting my raging song. I just took that feet right as I finished updating this character for this scenario and then promptly forgot...
Also, does my DR 1/- apply to fall damage?
GM Mike Hallet |
Also, does my DR 1/- apply to fall damage?
While it doesn't have a type, since it's not explicitly a magic attack, I'll allow it.

★ - OVERSEER ANNOUNCEMENT - ★
Hello Cosmonauts!
The lovely staff at Paizo gave me 15 ten-dollar gift certificates to distribute across the Cosmic Captive Special. Alas, we have 25 tables, so not every table can win one. In order to pick winners, I’m hosting a Cosmic Giveaway!
The Rules:
You cannot nominate yourself. You cannot pick me. Pick someone else (fellow player, GM, backup GM) who made your experience of Cosmic Captive fun! Tell me why!
You can submit only one name, but you can make a submission on the above link from now until July 9th.
Some names will likely get chosen because of the stories you tell me. Some may get selected in a random lottery. I’ll try to spread the love around to as many different tables as I can.
Hugs,
Hmm

I'm not entirely sure what's going on at the moment. You say I'm getting attacked by a wisp, but the only thing near me is a shaitan, and the wisps are on the other side of the map.
Also, what do we roll to identify the wisps?
I don't know what to make of that tangle of yellow boxes. Could you please differentiate which ones are walls and which ones are muddy ground?
I'm not comfortable taking my turn until I know exactly what's going on.

Sorry. I really should have taken my time to write and draw.
1. The wysps's action are just borrowing under the earth.
2. The identification check for them was in my first post. It was plane. But looking back, the identification check what in the initiative spoiler. So, it is normal you havnen't seen it.
3. The orange boxes are the Mud.
4. The grey line is the Wall.
5. I have now put a text beside the spells’ area to identify it.
6. What attacks you is an enslaved Shaitan who pop up.
7. What I am writing on the right side is the depth of those wisps.
For sake of my error. I shall consider that Imbroglio attacks Adil ok?
I hope this is better.
Please excuse me. English is not my native language and there a lot to consider in this tier.
Is it all clear now?
Gayel Nord |
Vinnie only attacks Adril if there are no other targets. Otherwise he goes for one of those. He's trying not to provoke Adril since he cast his spell on her and doesn't want to disrupt that.
So the shaitan?
Avelina of Mendev |
Thank you, GM. I understand things now. I just wanted to be sure, as high level combat is rough and I don't want to make a mistake.

It started with me trying to make a power attacking bard-arian. After a few really stupid decisions early on when I hit level 10 I did some retraining and made sure it all was a significant upgrade. Seems to work out pretty well. Probably would have been better if I opted to be an Urban Skald or Spell Warrior, but he was pretty obsessed with the Horn of Aroden in season 5.
I chose my rage powers to give maximum maneuverability and made sure that at least 1 of them was useful but somewhat optional. Then I make heavy use of Flexible Fury to handle specific tough encounters. For healing I have a Poet's Cloak with Lesser Celestial Totem which adds level to healing. Couple that with Path of Glory and it's basically a total party heal over the course of a minute.
I also make heavy use of Harmonic Spell and Lingering Performance to allow myself to use my performance and finales as often as possible. As a result I don't actually do anything myself, but it makes everyone else super-awesome.
Gayel Nord |
Hi there, there no post today. Part 3 starts tomorrow. I estimate that we haven’t the time to finish the next encounter.
Good night!
Gayel Nord |
Thanks Gayel Nord for your help over the past few days!
Good!
