"Humm, you're right, Allie. I can get myself invisible, don't worry about this. However, I might not be the better to puncture them. Anyone has Greater invisibility for our monk?"
Refen Halmare |
I have a fresh wand of infernal healing, so just let me know how much you want Noro if since you don't have a wand. (Will say with a caveat that 2 prestige for a wand is also a courtesy to the party)
Xiaobo Feng Weimin |
I have a wand of clw but can't use it.

Noro * Kasuri |
I never did buy the wand as I usually had a small PFS group and we all kind of just worked together like a regular party. Also I won't waste 2 prestige for a simple wand when I have more than enough cash to buy a better one later. I'm sorry I didn't get a wand.
Noro, not wanting to incur a debt to others, she will use her potions.

Bear's endurance maybe?

Just to clarify after Alie's remark: the syringe you stuck in the elemental is still empty, so you still have to gather all the samples.

Sharna al-Subaiyyat |
Sharna taps her fingers against her chin, thoughtfully.
"If we can enter in invisibly, yes, that may be beneficial. One small problem is that I think Alie is the only one among us who can make them visible, now. I can still see them, but I can do nothing to reveal them-- unless I can obtain a scroll of glitterdust here in the market.
"I can perhaps bring ill luck upon one of them. But consider the sequence: we come in, invisibly-- Alie and I can both cast short-range teleportation spells, it seems. Now we are adjacent, but they are invisible, and we are invisible. Alie must act to make them visible... and becomes visible herself. They will then logically both turn their attacks on her ... and we should hate for you to become paste, Alie," Sharna says drily.
"It will require a good coordination of timing, yes? Alie has quite a bit to try and accomplish-- rendering both creatures visible, and casting the confusion spell, though I can also attempt that. Hmm."
She takes off the pair of intricate goggles she wears. "Noro may be our best to resist the power of their throwing attack. I can perhaps also make you more fortunate, Noro-- but it is only a small bit of luck, and I cannot guarantee I can keep it going long, especially if I myself get hurled. Still-- if you wear these goggles, Noro, you would be able to see the enemy, and that might be of assistance until we can reveal their forms. I could also give you this potion to enlarge you somewhat, that might help in wrenching out the syringes."
Sharna looks out over the bazaar briefly. "Regarding the issue of killing or not killing the elementals, we do have the dragon here at hand, and may ask him. Excuse me."
Approaching Yekaterinos, she bows respectfully. "Master of the Bazaar, we have not quite completed our errand yet," she says drily. "They are intriguing creatures, these elementals. Dangerous, too, at least to such small, fleshy souls as ourselves. It may, regretfully, become necessary for us to defend ourselves; do you object to the death of any of these elementals, or should we consider that an acceptable parameter?
"Another question, if I may, Master: are magical scrolls available in your marketplace? It might speed the completion of our errand."
(Sharna would love to buy some scrolls if it's an option, but from what you said earlier, GM, about gold not being usable in the market, I suppose that may not be allowed. What about using Prestige Points? :P )

GM Lithrac |
The dragon chuckles with a deep, booming voice. "I do not object to their destruction, though you might want to extract their essence before you slay them. Their bodies do not linger here."
"As for a scrollmaster, I'm hearing "Honest" Jawb would be the person you should talk to. He's a mercane, a merchant and traveler among the planes."
Once you find the said merchant, you find him to be an overweight mercane with midnight-blue skin and wearing loose, clashing robes. He wanders around the bazaar, haggling with nearly every vendor. As he lays his eyes on you, he shakes his loose cheeks. "Fblblblbl. You buying? Selling? If not, get lost! Honest Jawb has no interest in you otherwise. What - a scroll of glitterdust? I do have one. I'll take your gold, unless you want your Society to become indebted to me? I'd accept that as well."
Prestige or gold, as the scenario makes a specific exception for this particular NPC given his wandering nature.
Alie Saechel |
So I will dim door us in Invisibly. Then Sharna and I can try to Glitterdust each of them. After that, the rest of you need to start popping them with syringes, while the two of us try and survive! Just before popping in in them, I will activate my Sihedron brand (Endurance) earned from
Refen Halmare |
I am going to have Refen transform back into Voonith form before teleportation. (Already marked off use) As well, I think we should set up some kind of flanking position for the one we teleport next to... at least the best we can do.
He's also gonna tap himself with his healing wand once. I don't like being down even 1 HP. :p
Sharna al-Subaiyyat |
I will indeed purchase that scroll of glitterdust (with gold); does the scenario allow for other scroll purchases, or is it wasting OOC time to enquire about that, haha? Bear's Endurance for Noro would be a good purchase, or, if there's a scroll of improved invisibility available, I would gladly spend the gold for that.
I think Alie said she can make us all invisible but I'll let her clarify on that. Presumably she wants to save some slots for glitterdust. Sharna will make sure that all the syringes are split between Noro and Xiao Bo before d-door time. Heroism will still be up on Noro and Sharna, and Sharna has given her a potion of enlarge person if Noro wants to drink that before the d-door. Sharna is also going to use the Fortune hex on Noro before the d-door, and move-action cackle to keep it up. Glitterdust scroll will be in hand before the d-door.
Sharna thanks Yekaterinos for the clarification, and goes off to find the merchant.... purchases made, she lays out an awful lot of preparations, while being ruefully aware that the best-laid plans are likely to crumble upon contact with the enemy. She taps a newly purchased scroll in one palm, frowning as she tries to think if she's forgotten anything before they finish final preparations.
Alie Saechel |
Good point. I have used three second level slots today. I have five left. One has to be for a glitterdust. That means I can make four of us invisible. Can anyone go invisible on their own, through a potion or other means?
Sharna al-Subaiyyat |
I used my only method of going invisible already (potion, certainly expired by now) but if scrolls are available from our wandering merchant I'm happy to purchase some.
Noro * Kasuri |
just to clarify, Noro was only healed via her own potions correct?
Noro refuses the enlarge potion but does accept the fortune hex, not being fully sure what it will do, she deduces that it is beneficial.
before d-door just before going through Noro activates her animal totem tattoo gaining the natural weapons of the dragon. this boost her grapple CMB by 2 more (this will last for 5 minutes in 1-min increments (can change as a standard action but each change consumes 1-min duration
Sharna al-Subaiyyat |

As the party materializes invisibly in the ruins, they are dangerously close to the elementals, who haven't moved much since the last confrontation. Somehow, they seem to sense you (blindsense), and react faster than you do. Luckily, they can't seem to target you with their telekinetic abilities since they can't actually see you, so they rely on the all-time classic "pound until it doesn't move" tactics.

Let's do the time warm again - round 1
1. Elementals
2. Refen, Noro, Voros (15), Xiaobo (16), Sharna, Alie
Alie Saechel |
Alie again casts Glitterdust, trying to make the beasts visible for the group.
DC 20 Will to resist.
Sharna al-Subaiyyat |
Laughing wildly-- a noise at odds with her otherwise serious demeanor until this point-- Sharna takes a short adjusting step backwards from the two elementals she can see, and her own eyes blaze with an unholy energy as she points at them both-- and becomes visible again.
5-ft step; then Misfortune Hex, Will save DC 22, on both elementals due to Split Hex. Move action to cackle to extend all current hexes (Fortune on Noro, and Misfortune on the elementals if they fail).
Fortune for Noro: You may roll twice on one d20 a round and take the higher result, but you must declare what you are choosing to re-roll before the dice are rolled. (You may want to save it for the inevitable Fort saves.) Also it's just now hitting me I could have Split Hex that on Xiao too, sigh, but I won't ask to retcon it, may still come in handy later that I didn't use it yet on him
Misfortune for the elementals: Must re-roll all d20s rolled each round, taking the lower.
Duration on both: 2 rounds (with Cackle extending that for the moment). Heroism still up on Noro and Sharna.
Refen Halmare |
Since Refen cannot use syringes in his form, he steps up to the closest one (pink) and goes to town.
Full Attack
Bite Attack (Power Attack, Divine Favor): 1d20 + 15 - 2 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 15 - 2 + 3 = 32

All of this assuming they are not evil, because otherwise they will take a mess of damage more.
Refen has reach with his bite and will totally take the Attack of Opportunity. (He also has Combat Reflexes, FYI)

Alie showers the elementals with golden dust to make them visible, but both manage to avoid being blinded. Sharna curses the elementals. No visible sign for this, so there's no way of knowing whether they're affected or not.
Refen goes all-out on one of the elementals, grazing him thrice, whereas Voros throws a series of bombs at the elemental. The first lands exactly where it's meant to, but the aetheric being dodges the two other bombs. I'll assume you targeted the center square of his space, so that your companions (or you) wouldn't risk being hit by friendly fire.
Ref: 4d20 ⇒ (11, 20, 3, 20) = 54 Both successes, thus 29+7+8=44 fire damage
Also, the elemental sees the alchemist after the first bomb, and decides to pound on him once more. Luckily, the smoke from the explosion is too thick and it causes the elemental to miss.
AoO: 2d20 + 18 ⇒ (14, 5) + 18 = 372d8 + 7 ⇒ (2, 3) + 7 = 12 *miss*
Noro attempts to grapple the elemental, but fails to do so. Allow me to say, you miss by a noticeable margin.
As a friendly reminder, here are the rules for the syringes:
Each voidglass syringe behaves much like a masterwork dagger that is not suitable for throwing, ignores an aether elemental’s damage reduction for its first attack, and sticks into the elemental after a successful hit. While a syringe is stuck in an elemental, as a standard action, a PC can attempt a combat maneuver check against the elemental with a +10 bonus, or they must succeed at a Sleight of Hand check opposed by the elemental’s Perception check. Doing so removes the syringes and fills it with the elemental’s essence. A PC can also fill a syringe by maintaining a grapple against an elemental and choosing to draw out a single sample. Each syringe can only hold one sample.
(Hint: there's a good reason they give a +10 bonus on the CMB check when used)
Let's do the time warm again - round 1
1. Elementals (pink 62)*
2. Refen, Noro, Voros (15), Xiaobo (16), Sharna, Alie
Noro * Kasuri |
so a 40 is way to low? looks like grapple is not an option for me then if its CMD is that high
looks like a retreat and forget this idea
also I did not add the +10 for the syringe as I wasn't sure if it applied on the injection or the removal. that would be a 50 to inject and a 60 to remove. (also forgot the +5 for maintaining the grapple).
GM Lithrac |
You did well in not applying the bonus. Read the rules carefully: first you must attack with the syringe (a weapon equivalent to a mwk dagger that bypasses their DR). If you succeed, during the following round (as a standard action) you can attempt to retrieve the essence with either a CMB check with the +10 bonus the syringe grants, or a Sleight of Hand check opposed to the elemental's Perception check. That being said, you wouldn't have succeeded even with the +10 bonus.
