Gitano races ahead after where he thinks Snarltongue had gone. As he enters the chamber, splashing through the ankle deep pool, he notices thick sheets of webbing hanging ominously from the roof of the cave. The rest of the party follows along cautiously, except Reese who, facing a fork, races up north.

Reese's gamble appears the right one, as the screeching laughter of Snarltongue echoes down from up ahead of him. But you have little time to take note of that as a giant spider descends from the ceiling along the webbing, and swarm of its young spiderlings, pour down along the walls!

---

giant spider: knowledge(nature) DC13:
This is a giant black widow spider. It has a nasty poisonous bite that drains constitution of those unable to resist.

---
As the giant spider descends, Rogar chops hard at its abdomen, spilling igor onto Gitano. Zavubak slices at it as well, but it glances off its thick hide.

The giant spider ignores the wound. Deciding that Reese is out of reach, and so reaches out its fangs towards Gitano, or rather its dinner. Gitano attempts to parry the attack away, but the rapier is ineffectual against the giant fangs. They sink into Gitano's shoulder and poison pours in.

Baeid dmg: 1d6 ⇒ 5 (1) distraction: fort DC11 or nauseated for 1 rd, and (2) poison: fort DC11 or str dmg: 1d2 ⇒ 1

Ok, the map is a bit confusing to display. The spider swarm is as shown, currently swarming over Zavubak, Gitano and Baeid. The giant spider, however, is hovering 5 feet over the exact same squares, dangling on its web. However, I've placed it to one side to not confuse the map further.

In summary, 3 fort saves from Gitano and 2 from Zavubak and Baied. Hmm, this is not Gitano's day. Don't forget all the alchemical stuff you got from the previous rooms!

Baied, your fort-save bonus is +3, so your fort rolls are 10 and 12, i.e. nauseated but not poisoned. When you're nauseated, you still have your move action. However, you would get an AoO from the giant spider (but not the swarm). However, you can still take a 5-foot step. There is a square that gets you out of the swarm.

Gitano's amazing luck holds up as he resists all negative effects of the spiders. He whips out a vial of liquid fire and tosses it into the midst of the swarm. However, the vial slips as it leaves his hand, smashing to pieces as it lands at the feet of Rogar, splashing Ivar and Baied as well. As a consolation, some of the spiders in the swarm and the giant spider is singed as well.

Rogar bravely steps into the midst of the swarms to reach the overhanging giant spider. His blade strikes true, cutting deep into its thorax. Ivar's aim, however, is off as the giant spider swings out of his reach.

Reese attempts the same attack as Gitano but his grip on his vial is similarly poor, landing this one beside Zavubak, splashing him, Rogar and some of the spiderlings.

Zavubak, like Gitano, manages to resist the effects of the spiderlings. He grows mighty claws, tearing into the abdomen of the giant spider, ripping it into pieces. Gore drips over him and Rogar, who standing directly below. And of course, the spider's babies.

Baied, yes you may exclude the swarm.

Rogar's tough consitution wards off the effects of the spider swarm. Baeid and Ivar, however, are not so fortunate. Not only does Baied gets nauseated by their attacks, both of them feel the effect of the poison. (Another fort DC11 for Baeid or str dmg: 1d2 ⇒ 1, and Ivar or str dmg: 1d2 ⇒ 1).

Rogar ditches his weapon in favour of a vial of fire, but he aims poorly and it lands at the feet of Baied. Ivar moves away from the battle, keeping a watch for Snarltongue or anyone else that might approach. Fnally, Gitano lobs well with his vial. The acid smashes into the midst of the spider swarm, blowing thousands of them into smithereens and alarming the rest to disperse and flee.

Ok, think I'm back in business.
Gitano, sorry I bolded your name by mistake. It should only have been Zavubak and Reese. You can still take the same action this round or change it based on the new info below.
Baied, you are nauseated by the spider swarm, so you can't channel in the previous round. I'll take it as your action this round?

Reese holds his action, while Zavubak races down the corridor, right to the very edge of the room. From the entrance, he can see that this long chamber has four alcoves along the western wall. The northern and southern two contain visible statues, and the center two are recessed. Zavubak is standing directly opposite the southern statue while there's another corridor that faces the northern one. Up along the northern wall are a set of double doors, likely leading to the earlier room that the party fought the ooze.

What catches his eye, however, is the Snarltongue, standing at the other end of the chamber. As per his namesake, he snarls at you then concentrates briefly. Two of the vials on his head bubbles as the liquids drain into him, and he fades from view.

"Trapped, you say? We have no time for such trivialities," Zav says as he rushes into the room, perhaps foolishly, and strikes at the square he thought he saw Snarltongue.

Reese, still pending your standard action.

Rogar moves into the room and with his sharp eyes, notice the gaping mouth of the two centre statues, one frosted with rime and the other with faint scorch marks. Warning the party of the trap, he positions Ivar to guard Reese.

Despite the warning, Zavubak recklessly pushes past Reese, again activating the blast of cold, which he easily dodges. At the next statue, however, a blast of fire pours out and slams into Zavubak, pushing him against the opposite wall, not only pressing him tightly in place but burning him relentlessly at the same time.

Reese ducks under the blast of fire still emanating from the statue that is pinning Zavubak against the wall, hoping to lure Snarltongue from his hiding, but he does not take the bait.

"Haha! You fools! Lure you to trap! Haha!" Snarltongue exclaims with a sneering laugh. You hear the bone chilling whine as a battleaxe swings through the air as he appears, just next to Zavubak. Clearly, he had been waiting there for someone to be caught by the flames. In his excitement, however, his swing goes wild and the axe slams into the wall beside Zavubak.

Rogar, actually they are magical traps and activate when they detect any creature passing in front. So no pressure plate to jump over.

Rogar looks for some trigger of the traps while racing towards Reese and Zavubak. However, he sees none and in his preoccupation, the statue in the south centre alcove, a silver-colored one of a human that appears to be deeply inhaling, activates. A freezing gale-force wind pulls Rogar towards the statue, chilling him to his bones and trapping him in place!

Gitano rushes up the other pathway, hoping to cut off Snarltongue's escape. Ivar on command races back to stay next to Baied. Baied hesitates briefly, then races after Gitano, drawing her wand of healing along the way. Zavubak with heroic ferocity pushes himself out of the firestream, which dies down almost immediately, waiting for its next victim.

Again you hear the sharp keening noise of an axe swinging through the air as Snarltongue fades back into view. Reese takes the opportunity to strike but he is thrown off by the sudden appearance and misses, almost dropping his own hammer. Snarltongue, however, fares no better. Botting Reese and Baied

Gitano races down the stairs, stopping at the bottom getting ready to strike if the goblin should appear. Reese similarly stands ready to strike. Rogar pushes himself away from the inhaling winds, but they have chilled him and he lacks the strength. Ivar, unaware of the danger his master is facing, dutifully follows in Baied's footsteps. Zavubak sniffs the air and notes the distinct stink of Snarltongue. He steps near, growing his claws as he does so. His first claw fails to connect but his second tears into flesh. Baied moves up behind Gitano and lays a charge of healing on him. The wand seems defective, however, and barely closes any wound.
