Greenwillow, if I'm not wrong, summon nature's ally summons ordinary versions of animals, not celestial version. Not critical here though as the stats are more or less the same.
An eagle materialises in the air mid-flight behind the (red) scorpion, tearing through its carapace with one of its talon and its sharp beak. The scorpion is oozing green goo from many parts of its body now, and looking unsteady on its feet. Greenwillow attempts to summon a lightning storm over the other (blue) scorpion but with the cover of the tunnel walls, her aim is off. Darven continues chipping away at the same scorpion, doing some damage. In the midst of her nonchalant conversation, Faeria continues to fire two brilliant bolts of light in rapid succession at the scorpion, but both are deflected harmlessly off the walls of the tunnel.
Meanwhile, both Capone and Shelby step up to heal Adinomo and Darven respectively, restoring their health somewhat.

Adinomo takes advantage of the distraction created by the summoned eagle to strike the scorpion through its eye, and its collapses to the ground, twitching as its life goo leaks away. One down!
The remaining scorpion, oblivious to the death of its compatriot, continues attacking Darven. Its right claw and sting almost find an opening in Darven's defences, but he shifts his shield in the nick of time to deflect them off in rapid succession.

Btw a few hours ago Darven posted an attack then a 5ft step away. But the formatting was messed up and he deleted it. My guess is he didn't have time to fix it. I don't know if he killed the scorpion or not but at the very least it no longer has cover.
GM kuey |
Seeing that Darven has moved aside, I'll readjust the rolls for the ranged attacks. Greenwillow, if you're ok, I'll move your character. Her current spot will still incur cover due to the tunnel.
Adinomo's strike bounces off harmlessly against the wall. Darven swings at the scorpion but his sword scrapes off its carapace. He then steps to one side to leave an opening for the ranged attackers. Despite this, Capone's fire bolt flies too high and misses the scorpion. Greenwillow, seeing the opening, moves to get a clear shot and her sling bullet punches into its abdomen.
Shelby, want to confirm if you're indeed healing Darven? He is only down by 3 hp. Think he hasn't updated his stat line which is indicating 7 hp damage.

Combat over
The silence that falls upon the room after the fierce battle is broken when Heryn pops her head into room, and asks in concern, "Is everyone alright?"
With the vermin defeated, you can properly examine the files on the desk. The papers chronicle the personal exploits of Selmius Foster, a famous Pathfinder whose name you recognize from your training as Pathfinder agents or from conversations with other Pathfinders. However, you know little about him beyond his name. (In reference to the history checks earlier.) From the notes left behind though, he seemed to be a founding member of the Pathfinders, i.e. about 400 hundred years ago. Most of Foster’s more infamous adventures appear here in varying amounts of detail, but it is evident there is another investigation he had been pursuing before he died: the lost records of a Society agent named Eylysia. Two pieces of notes left behind, one by Selmius Foster himself, and one by what appears to be his assistant Adolphus, appear to be of particular importance.

Faeria, the Mad |
"Oh, a cellar! Is that where I am? ... Wouldn't be the first time. Oh! Hello. I am Faeria." She extends a hand just to Darven's left. "And this is Adinomo and his magical talking dog--err?" She holds out for Adinomo's talented terrier to introduce himself. "I'm pretty sure they're here, though I admit the 'talking dog' part seems suspect...."
Darven Kinock |
Darvn looks towards Faeria and twist his head slightly and then dismisses her oddness with a smile.
"Hmm...I wonder if any of these people can be alive. I do know dwarves and gnomes usually have extended lifespans. And these names. Maybe we should go to the grand lodge and check out the wall of names too."
GM kuey |
Unfortunately, the rest are too obscure for you based on the +3 you have for history and local, i.e. DC25. Or you could just ask the many NPCs in this tavern. :)

"Selmius was one of the Pathfinder Society founders and hung out here in the Wisp quite often. His assistant Adolphus went off and set up a lodge in Quantium. Some of the Wisp regulars may know more."
GM kuey |
Heryn is still peering into the room while you are having your discussion, looking quite curiously into the room that has been hidden under her tavern all these years without her knowledge.
Her ears perk up at the name Selmius. "Did you mention Selmius Foster? Well, if it is any help, tradition has it was from one of his many late night drinking sessions here in the Wounded Wisp with like-minded adventurers when the idea to start the Society first came about. He even took up residence here in a spare room between his travels. I wonder if he's the one responsible for this room."
She looks around the room again and glances at the stack of notes on the table. "This looks like Pathfinder business, so I'm not going to touch anything here. Go do what you need to do. I'll make sure no one disturbs this place until one of your agents come tell me otherwise." Heryn then finally comes into the room, and seems to be more interested in the dimensions of the room than the contents. You can hear her muttering to herself, "Hmm, a bit small, but I can put a number of shelves here ... here ... and here. Once I've sorted out the wine outside, I can keep the precious ones hidden here. Oh but I need to fix those cracks... What is that smell? Do the cracks lead to the sewers? Ew..." She is still examining the room while you troop out, unconcerned about the two scorpion carcasses.
As you climb the stairs out of the cellar, you hear Heryn exclaim, "Ah, there it is!" followed shortly by the rumbling noise you heard earlier. It seems that she has found the catch to close the secret door. "How convenient," you hear her add on.
Assuming that you're proceeding upstairs. You can continue discussing.
---
Once upstairs, the tavern appears pretty much the way you left it, as you hadn't been gone very long. The two half-orcs are still at their drinking game and at their eighth flagon each by now (but who's counting). Janira is still regaling the Pathfinder initiates with her tales, and the bespectacled scholar is still poring over his tome. Aram is speaking to a barmaid and appears to be settling his bill.
GM kuey |
Seems there aren't actually any questions you have? I believe most of you have played this scenario before. So go ahead and suggest which of the 3 leads you want to start with.
Capone~ |
"Mausoleum sounds like good a suggestion as any."
Faeria, the Mad |
"Ooo! It's been forever since I've slept in one! They're nice and cool in the summer, and people always leave flowers." Faeria smiles and offers Capone another peanut from the bar for the excellent suggestion.
GM kuey |
To the mausoleum first it is.
Details left by Selmius Foster indicate the location of Arkath’s burial site: a plot of land in Eastgate operated by the faith of Pharasma, the Lady of Graves. A fence surrounds the graveyard, and the party enters via the wide open gates to the east. A number of stone mausoleums border the necropolis, while countless graves dot the grounds. You can tell that the graveyard was once well-maintained but in recent years, the mausoleums and graveyards are starting to become dilapidated.
Looking at the gravestones, you notice that most, if not all, of the deceased were interred a few hundred years ago. That the grounds are largely deserted is not surprising – the friends and relatives of those buried here are likely themselves long deceased. The only person present is a dark-haired lady dressed in fine black robes slowly pacing the grounds. She does not appear to be paying respects to the deceased, and instead appear to be on patrol. She glances at the party as you enter, but she does not immediately approach you.
After a quick tour round the necropolis, you find the northernmost mausoleum belonging to Arkath. By then, the attendant see your interest and paces over to you. She speaks politely in a slow measured fashion with a tinge of disinterest in her voice. “Good day, ladies and gentlemen. I am Hadriana, priestess of Pharasma, attendant of this necropolis. Do you require any resistance?”
maps and handouts updated
GM kuey |
Clearly, I had meant assistance, not resistance in my earlier post. :)
"Arkath?” Hadriana pauses here, staring into the air for a while as she searches through the catalog in her memory. ”Ah yes, the mausoleum to the north. He was a stonemason in life. A rather skillful one, but not of any particular historic importance,” she shared in her disinterested voice of hers. She continues in her her slow and measured tone, "Yes, I have heard of your organisation. Well, so long as you do not disturb the rest of interred, I see no harm in allowing you to view his remains."
Without speaking further, she leads you towards Arkath's mausoleum and with a strength that belies her lithe figure, she gently pushes aside the stone slabs that serves as doors. The smell of stale air greets you as soon as you step in, but it does not appear to faze Hadriana. Inside, the mausoleum is spartan, except for a sarcophagus richly decorated with carvings of willow trees, rumbling brooks and dancing river nymphs.
Hadriana pushes open the cover of the stone sarcophagus, and steps back for the party to examine the remains, although she keeps a close eye on you. The interior of Arkath’s sarcophagus is empty save for the stonemason’s long-dead skeleton. However, a faint glint of light reflects off what appears to be a small coin inside the skeleton’s mouth! It appears ancient, and what seems to be elaborate engravings pattern the surface. (Added a picture of the coin.)
Adinomo |
Adinomo stands on his toes to peer inside the human-sized tomb. He places two hands on the edge and pulls himself up. A moment later he looses his stability and falls forward into the sarcophagus ! Luckily he is able to catch himself by placing his hands just besides the skull. "Help!"
When he is helped back up he makes sure to pat his clothes to dislodge any cobwebs and dust.

"Be careful!" Hadriana shouts at Adinomo as he starts to topple over, a look of alarm replacing her calm composure in an instant. She dashes over to the sarcophagus, but not over concern for the halfling. Instead, she peers at the remains, checking to see if the clumsy halfling had disturbed anything, ignoring Adinomo's excuses.
Faeria interrupted her before she completed her inspection, however. She looks up at a familiar sounding voice. "It's you! I told you never to come back here! One last time, this is not an inn!" Hadriana is clearly coming undone.
Turning back to the party, her voice steely cold now, she says, "I think it is time that you leave. The dead has had enough excitement for today. Or for a decade." She glares at all of you, especially at Faeria, until you leave the mausoleum and the grounds of the necropolis.
Capone, I'll take it that you are doing that after you have left the mausoleum?
The party finds a deserted alley and sets about examining their discovery. Capone is the first to do so, but although he can see the faint aura of divination magic emanating from the coin, he is unable to recognise what special properties it has.
Capone~ |
If we were allowed to take the coin (or took it anyway), then it would wait.
