Luurg will do his best to befriend the page because that's who he is and he wants a tour around the ship, especially below decks. "Oh, hi der kid, I'm Luuurrg. Who's you?" He says as he chomps down into a fresh crunchy apple. "Mmmm so gud. Want one? Here, good for you, make you grow up big and strong like Luurg." He'll toss him an apple and beckon him along. "You been on dis ship long? I lub boats, spent much time on boats... some good time some not good time. What kinda stuff you hauling down here?" Maybe the dice gods will be kind, feel free to add random bonuses... Diplomacy: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (4) - 2 = 2 ouch.. bad dice.

At dinner Knowledge: Nature/Tigers!: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22

Luurg cringes as he sees the size of the dining room and the number of people crammed into it. He attempts to find the stoutest chair with the most space Lucky?: 1d20 ⇒ 3 and seems to do pretty well for himself. Other than the Count and Baron, Luurg ends up in about as good a space as possible. Luurg, control your eating habits. Luurg don't piss off the Count and Baron... Luurg does his best to be polite and use his indoor voice and manners Diplomacy: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (16) - 2 = 14 but doesn't do so well... He manages to keep his mouth mostly closed to not say the wrong things but the cramped quarters and tasty food equate to some spills and sloppy eating.

With a bit of mustard on his chin and a fresh wine stain all around his spot at the table Luurg recalls a story to tell Good story?: 1d20 ⇒ 19

"So my first mission, dis old Bossman is standin 'round out in da rain, must be cold I said, he be old me tinks. Old ones don't like standin 'round in da rain. Luurg a big fan of da rain, feels nice."

Luurg rubs his now full belly and continues "Anywho.. he sends us to get someting for him. Odd he would rather stand in da rain den go get himself eh? We gets to da place and in da cellar ders a secret room! Exciting I know! Da room has some mean buggies dat bite at us. Dis little red guy wid us roasts one with a big fire. Den dis other guy wid us, he looked like he didn't get nuff sun or fruits, he whacked it 2 quick tumps with his tall stick and green goo all over us." Luurg ponders thoughtfully with a big smile on his face at the mention of the green goo part.

"Den we did a bunch of less fun stuff, den we found some more stuff and we's all happy, high fives and tumbs up all over. We go to leave and BAM! Da pale guy in da front get stabbed right in da guts by dis halfman and he falls over. So our fire spewing guy goes up and roasts the halfman up pretty good. Den Kitty here bites and claws up the halfman and he falls over. Den dis big orc lady runs up and clobbers our firey guy with a giant club and sends him flyin.. must been 4 feet in da air! Ouch!" Luurg shudders at the 'ouch'. "So den I get in on da action and take my spear and run dat orc right tru da chest and out da udder side, blood everywheres!" Luurg pulls out his spear and points out some fresh blood stains near the blade. "See dare? Orc lady blood!" A proud look crosses his face. "Den Selima here, she has a good head on dem shoulders she tells em to give up and dey give up. We win! We takes der stuff and find out dey 'Asspiss' people. Whatever dat means. Rae was dere too, stabbin away!" Luurg laughs and smiles and looks around the table hoping everyone enjoyed his story.

The page boy stares wide-eyed at the bulbous half-orc, knees knocking, clearly terrified. He flinches when Luurg tosses the apple to him, which knocks him on his head and rolls to the floor. "P.. puh... pplee... pplleeeasee.. sir... Plleease fo..llow me... Puh.. pleease.."

Back to the dinner party...

Rogar recalls a passing merchant mentioning tigers as cats, but much bigger. Even bigger than the snow leopards up in the northern mountains. You can't help but look at Selima's animal companion and wonder.

Luurg wonders though at the behaviour of the tiger. It must indeed to have been very bold to be attacking such a large party by itself. But he launches into his tale nonetheless.

The Baron and the Count frowns as they attempt to follow the in and outs of the tale, especially trying to decipher the mangled Common he is using. Count Falroun clearly gives up somewhere in the tale when Luurg was talking about roasts and fruits, but continues to smiles politely and nods at the right places. Baron Bomande, however, gradually gets caught up in the tale, and grins widely at the actions described, examining the Luurg's spear when offered.

When Luurg ends his tale, the Baron laughs uproariously and pats Luurg on his shoulder repeatedly, while smiling at Selima and Raevin. "That's a fine tale, Master Luurg! There is a story-teller in you! A fine adventure of discovery and battle. And a gallant acceptance of their surrender, too. What any good solder must do." The Baron is clearly warming up somewhat to your party.

Thanks, Luurg, for the fantastic summary of our last mission! Haha, I have to save that!

By the way, this is also a good time to ask any other other questions you have about the mission.

Damn game, eating my responses. Thanks, thought it would be appropriate, especially being this is his second mission. He doesn't think his history would put them in a very good light with the Baron... Also, seems like my rolls for a few things got reversed.. his diplomacy for some reason showed up as his 'luck' roll for finding a good spot for dinner.. oh well... He needs all the help he can get with diplomacy. I'll post something else later today give someone else a chance to respond.. Selima, Rae where are you?

At the mention of 'war stories', Raevin's thoughts turn inward for the moment and his eyes tear up even as they seem miles away... a few tears run down his cheeks as he sighs... Finally he speaks very softly... "I'm sorry, recently my companions and I were exploring Swift Prison, trying to root out some evil there... we were beset by an earth elemental and then a nasty undead creature shortly after. All were lost except me. I returned to my Venture Captain and a rescue was launched to recover their bodies. It was quite traumatic for me.. I retired for a year after that, only returning to the society on the promise that I would never be sent back to that awful place. This is my first mission on returning, so I hope it goes well." He wipes the tears from his face with a chagrined half-smile and a shrug. "Perhaps we could hear a tale of rousing heroism and success against the forces of evil now. Something to inspire rather than another tale of woe."

Making a mental note to ask Selima about Thirsty later, Rogar turns his attention to a bit of storytelling.

"Well, last time I was this far south, I got sent on an 'archaeological' mission in central Osirion. The Ruby Prince, as you surely know, has opened up the country to foreign explorers in an attempt to kickstart the ol' economy. The Pharasmins know better to go against the Pharaoh, so they offer their full cooperation in dealing with the opening and exploration of tombs and necropolises. My team, out of Absalom, were sent to Wati, The Half-Dead City, to partake in the opening of the city's own necropolis. We were given two locations to explore, the tomb of a nobleman, and a manor. The tomb was pretty straight forward; a bunch o' traps and critters, as can be expected. There was one nasty trap, that one of my compatriots, a half-elf bruiser from the seedy underbelly of Absalom, managed to completely dismantle. He told me afterwards, that the room was rigged to flood, followed by an electrical discharge. Now, I'm no alchemist, but anyone with half a brain knows that water and electricity don't mix, so I'm quite glad the surly bastard managed to disengage the whole thing.
The manor, however, was quite a different story. We basically stumbled into one curse after the other, and Sarth, the surly bruiser, lost all his hair before we manged to stop him from turning into a vargouille, you know, one o' them flapping heads."

Rogar pauses for a moment, the wheels seemingly turning in his head.

"To be completely honest, I'm quite glad we're going on a good ol' fashioned hunting expedition. Nothing makes a man feel more alive, than making sure som bastard animal no longer is."

Uesugi listens carefully to the shared tales of the others before retlling his own. The barbarian" he waves his hand towards Gallix, "could probably tell the tale much better but I shall have my turn at it and he may fill in whatever parts I might have overlooked. The task took us into what I can only tell you was the distant past. It took us back to the time of the great nations of the Azlanti when they were at battle with reptilian humanoids that we call trogolodytes. The task before us was only to observe and collect information about this long lost civilization and we did this only to get caught up into rescuing an Azlanti general that was about to be sacrificed.

The battle to rescue the general almost lead to my death. Just as we reached the temple we were ambushed by several guards as a reptilian priestess began to prepare the general for sacrifice. Pressed to fight within the narrow confines of a tunnel I faced off against a large and deadly snake, but before I knew it I found myself fighting for my life while wrapped within its coils. Struggling to even hold my blade I slashed at the serpent only to have my attack glance off the creature's hard scales. It is in that moment where the barbarian tore off from whatever creature he was attacking to rush to my aid, but even the barbarian's heavy blows could not get the serpent to disengage. As I felt myself about to black out I was awakened by a rush of hot air and felt the creature recoil a little. Another of my clan, Mr. Peppers, schooled in the hidden secrets of wu jen was able to call upon a wave of fire to strike at the serpent without harming me. Summoning the last of my energy I raised my blade and struck down at the serpent knowing that if I failed I would die. My resolve saved me the blade split the serpent in half and I fell to the ground weakened but alive." Uesugi pauses and bows his head at Gallix to honour the barbarian "That is my part of the tale I know the barbarian can add to it since it does not end there, but I tell you this Baron so that you know who you bring to the hunt with you. When the beast you hunt comes for you we shall be there to stand in its way so that you might avenge the deaths of those the beast took from you."

Baron Bomande smiles broadly, clearly enjoying listening to your stories one after another. "Thank you for sharing. I must say I am impressed with the experiences of you Pathfinders! I know recollecting some of these experiences might not be easy ..." At this point, he nods at Raevin, and continues, "But a battle you walk away from is a battle you live to fight another day. I must say I was somewhat skeptical when my new son-in-law suggested members from your Society come along for this expedition, but I do believe I am now very much looking forward to it!"

Count Falroun pipes up here. "I'm glad you are, father. Arranging for this is just a small thing I can do for you." The Baron merely grunts in reply and turns back to your party.

sense motive DC20:
Count Falroun tries to hide it, but he is disappointed that his father-in-law does not show appreciation in return.

The Baron continues, "Enough of stories. Before we retire for the night, let's go through the expedition. Tomorrow we would arrive in Niswan, and would set off immediately for the hunting lodge, where we may pick up any last minute supplies. From there, it would be a few days out in the safari. Tigers are territorial animals. If we find our way back to its hunting grounds where ... where I last encountered it, there’s a good chance we’ll run across it again. After that, I understand your party will split off from mine to look for a Vudrani temple. If there are no further questions, let's get a good night's sleep." Count Falroun quickly summons his staff to clear the leftovers on the table. And with that dismissal, you also take your leave to return to your quarters.

Going to move things right along …

---

Next day, after docking in the capital city Niswan of Jalmeray, the entourage made its first stop in Segang at a local hunting lodge, where Count Matsanda hires an elephant, a mahout (elephant driver), and a dozen porters. The elephant seems well past its prime, but it’s the only suitable mount available at the lodge, so Matsanda takes it. The Baron merely snorts when he sees its condition but otherwise does not comment.

While the final preparations are being made, you may also purchase any last minute mundane survival equipment. The hunting lodge is also filled with other hunters, that you could try to find out the latest rumours from.

Let me know what you wish to buy, and I’ll let you know whether it’s available.

diplomacy (gather information) or knowledge (local) DC10:
Hunters at the lodge corroborate the baron’s story about his previous expedition and report that several other hunting parties have also gone missing in that part of the jungle.

diplomacy (gather information) or knowledge (local) DC15:
The Urapangi Lowlands are also known as “the monkey swamp,” and particularly devout Vudrani claim that the monkeys who reside there possess mystical powers.

diplomacy (gather information) or knowledge (local) DC20:
Though Pathfinder Society agents have tried to keep the location of the Urapangi temple under wraps, rumor has it that several independent groups are currently planning their own expeditions to find the lost temple.

---

The expedition sets off early next morning. The Segang Jungle is a dense tropical forest. The deciduous trees that comprise it are green all year round thanks to the wet coastal climate. You have reached Jalmeray at the height of its warmer season, and the air is hot and sticky under the jungle canopy.

The hunting trail is just wide enough to accommodate the passage of an elephant (15 feet wide), and the areas of underbrush on either side of the trail count are thick with vegetation (difficult terrain). Most of the porters walk in front of the elephant to avoid dust churned up by the elephant and the droppings left behind by it. Count Matsanda and Baron Rudyahm ride in a howdah on the elephant’s back, accompanied by their mahout. The howdah is an elaborate wooden affair that can hold three occupants and one driver. The Baron invites one of your party to join him in the howdah.

Let me know where your character would be in relative to the elephant, i.e. in front, left, right, behind. Or up on the mahout.

Game is scarce on the first day of the safari. The Baron explains that animals are skittish this close to the hunting lodge, and the real trophies are to be found deeper in the jungle. At the end of the first day the hunting party sets up camp in a clearing atop a low rise. The night passes uneventfully.

---

Early in the morning, you are woken by a loud crash coming from the Count’s tent, and you dash over to investigate. The interior of his spacious canvas tent is richly decorated with portable darkwood and silver furnishings. Torn mosquito netting hangs above the bed, and a mirror, basin, and various shaving implements lie scattered on the ground. A black leather boot lies on the floor next to the crumpled remains of a large black spider.

Baron Bomande reaches the tent just ahead of you . “What the devil happened in here?” he asks in alarm as he enters. You see Count Falroun lying on the bed clutching his bare right foot in pain. The count replies in a fearful voice, “Something in my boot bit me — a spider I think. I fell back onto the bed in surprise. My god, Bomande, what if it’s poisonous? I could lose the foot! You brought some antitoxin, didn’t you? Fetch it quickly!” Unfazed, the Baron replies in exasperation, “Ah, bit of luck then. The spiders of Segang aren’t dangerous, not like the scorpions. It’ll probably smart for a bit, that’s all. Next time, check your damn boots!” Count Falroun, however, is clearly not assured by the promises of his father-in-law, and the two men begin to argue. That seems quite uncharacteristic of the Count who had been very deferential to his father-in-law thus far, which is likely a sign of how worried he is for his life.

The Count turns to your party, and pleads, ”Please, save me! Or convince him to give up his antitoxin! It’s better to be safe than sorry!” The Baron, in response, exclaims, ”Bah! Yes, I have antitoxins, but it would be waste use it on a malingerer!”

Luurg spends most of his time at the hunting lodge giving advice on supplies needed to get along in the jungle instead of his usual chattiness with the locals.

Out in the jungle Luurg will prefer to be ahead of the elephant so he can put his wilderness skills to use before the elephant tramples all over things. Considering the large number of people in the group I'm sure things are moving slowly so Luurg will gather food for himself on the trip. Taking 10 on Survival for a 15.

"So much gud food in da jungle! You just no find dees fruits back in Absalom!" Luurg replenishes his fruit stock considerably. When they make camp Luurg sets up his hammock on the fringes of the camp after he looks around to be sure its a safe spot and arranges camouflage netting over the top to hide it (Taking 10 on Survival for a 15)

Luurg will step into the tent to see what sort of spider it is and if he knows if it is poisonous. Knowledge: Nature: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23 If the spider is poisonous Luurg will back up the Count's concern, if it isn't then he agrees with the Baron "Ooo little spider buggie! Baron right, best check boots before put dem on when in jungle... good idea anywheres, tings like to sleep in warm boots.. or people play jokes and do bad tings in boots too!" Luurg chuckles heartily at the last part as he mimes someone pooping in a boot.

"I know tings 'bout med'cin. Lemme look at dat foot." Luurg will pull out a healing kit that he's 'enhanced' with wild remedies and take a look at the bite. Take 10 on a heal check with the healing kit for a 17 to treat the bite and possible poison. "No worries Count, Luurg here good healer, take good care of yer foot. Make sure spider no take yer foot. Luurg:
You recognise the spider as a species of a tarantula which although has a painful bite, is a non-dangerous species with venom approximately as strong as a bee sting. When you examine the Count Falroun's wound, you similarly recognize that other than a slight swelling, he is not suffering from any serious symptoms of poisoning.

For this scene, I would need everyone's response, even if it is to do nothing as it has some potential effect on the outcome.

No worries Luurg! Will NPC him as best as I can. Which is likely not very well considering how well you've been playing him. :)

Rejoining the hunting expedition, Rogar relays the whispers he heard.

"It would seem that the good Baron is on to something here. Other hunting parties have gone missing in that part of the jungle as well. More distressing for us, is the fact that we're not the only ones out for the Urapangi temple, so we might need to deal with some interlopers."

He scratches his beard for a moment before adding a last tidbit, almost as an afterthought.

"Oh, and some old codger told me that the monkeys in the jungle have 'mystical powers', whatever that means..."

As the expedition gets underway, Rogar places himself, and Ivar, at the very front of the column, as to better pick up any interesting trails.

Sorry to be so behind the times. Busy weekend. Bummed I didn't make it in time to add to story time. I'm sure I'll have plenty to say later on though. Now, time to start.

Dinner
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

Gallix, to everyone's surprise, remains quiet throughout most of the meal, only piping up from time to time to ask someone to pass a dish over. He does smile as Uesugi recounts the tale of nearly being crushed to death in their previous mission. He confirms his side of the story, but doesn't carry on too much. Apparently Valsin's admonishments have had their intended effect...at least for the time being.

Hunting Lodge
Knowledge (local): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Gallix and Uesugi wander around the hunting lodge for a few hours, and, although the Tien is more focused on keeping himself cool through all of his armor, Gallix is able to pick up on the same rumors Rogar had shared with the group. "I never spent much time here in the jungles," he says after the report of the mystical monkeys, "but it could be that some of the elemental magics the Vudrani wield have had an effect on some of the wildlife. That's just a guess, though. Better to just stay on our toes I'd say."

As the expedition leaves the lodge, Gallix falls in line directly behind Uesugi. The pair had developed quite an effective set of tactics in their previous engagements, and the brawler thought it would be good to carry on with the same strategies now.

Camp
Heal: 1d20 ⇒ 2
Gallix enters the tent in the middle of the argument. As far as he can tell, the wound looks pretty bad, and the warrior suddenly flashes back to a recent memory of wading through a pit of snakes and being bitten several times, the venom of the snakes coursing through his veins and sapping his strength away. "I'm no expert on spiders or on keeping people healthy, but it might be a good idea to at least keep an eye on that wound. Venoms are nothing to be cavalier about, your Grace."

I’m going to move on without Selima’s post for now. I’ve checked some of her other aliases and she doesn’t seem to have posted anything since 12 Oct. Any one knows her personally? A bit worried.

"Of course, all wounds should be monitored, but I'm not wasting the supply of precious anti-toxins that someone might legitimately need later!" the Baron booms out.

With both Luurg and Rogar backing up the Baron's assertions as well, the Baron adds on as he addressed Count Falroun, "These Pathfinders know what they are talking about. The spider isn't venomous and your wound is fine!" The Count looks at his father-in-law, then at Luurg and Rogar, and finally at his own foot. He pauses for a few counts, calming down, before sharing somewhat sheepishly, "I think you're right. The pain seems to be dying down."

Taking the cue from the Pathfinders, Baron Bomande relent somewhat, and adds in a more neutral tone, "Falroun, I respect you for your skills in politics in the courts of Alkenstar. But in return, please do the same and trust that I know what I'm talking about in my domain." Nodding in thanks to the Pathfinders, he says, "Come, let us go get ready. We set off for our hunt soon." He then turns to walks out, leaving a Count who is staring forlornly at the ground.

Day One of Hunting

In an hour or so, after breakfast has been partaken, the safari entourage sets off. Raevin rides in the howdah together with the Baron and the Count, and after the morning's episode, the atmosphere is quite frosty, with no conversations and other than the occasional commands by the mahout to the elephant. Most of the rest of the party paces up in the front together with most of the porters, while Selima and Thirsty follows up at the rear, primarily to avoid spooking the elephant and the porters.

As predicted by the Baron, having set some distance from the hunting lodge, the party starts encountering more larger animals. After a couple hours out, the porters flushes out an antelope which the Baron takes down with a shot from his musket.

The Count's mood has improved somewhat since the morning's encounter despite his lack of success thus far. He turns to the paty. "Come, join in! I know that you're here to escort us in this expedition, but I am sure my father-in-law has no objections to you taking part in the sport. Whatever trophy you bag, I'll have it stuffed and mounted for you as a gift." Baron Bamonde, flushed with his success thus far, nods in agreement.

For those of you who wish take part in the safari hunt, with the help of the porters to flush out the game, you would have the opportunity to deliver the killing shot to a single animal. Roll a d8 to determine what kind of animal is flushed out for you, then make an ranged or melee attack that does lethal damage to see if you succeed. The Count is happy to lend you a light or heavy crossbow if you wish. You may also use magic but that would be frowned upon as being unsporting.

The crack of the musket makes Gallix's heart race for a moment, and seeing the antelope fall almost immediately raises his excitement even further. When the Count offers to allow them to join in, he practically jumps at the opportunity. He gratefully accepts a light crossbow, explaining that he has had a small amount of experience firing such a weapon recently and felt that he might fare better with the lighter weapon.

His weapon in hand, Gallix stalks along behind the porters, ready to react the moment his prey emerges from the underbrush.

When Raevin turns down the offer to hunt, Count Falroun politely moves on to the other party members. Baron Bamonde, however, glances at Raevin with a strange look in his eye, and nods seemingly in understanding, before turning his attention back to the rest of the Pathfinders.

As Uesugi paces through the thick undergrowth together with some of the porters, he suddenly feels the ground shaking under his feet. Suddenly, from the underbrush burst forth a rhinoceros, charging straight for him. The Baron and the Count quickly fire off their shots at it, fearing for Uesugi's life, but although the shots connect, the beast continue charging. Uesugi readies his strike and chops down just as it reaches striking range and deftly steps aside. The rhinoceros charges a few more steps unsteadily before collapsing onto the ground, expiring shortly after.

He turns quickly to watch the action, but simply sits back to enjoy the show while the nobles unload their firearms on the beast. The samurai performs his typically perfect strike and the beast falls. Luurg, know you can't post now, but when you return, you may back post if you want to hunt! :) And Selima, ditto. Hope everything is ok.

At noon, the safari stops at a clearing for lunch. Count Falroun pulls your party aside to ask for help. “As you can see, I haven't had much luck thus far. Who am I kidding. I don't have much skill! I’d really like to impress the old man today, but you see, I’m not much of a hunter,” he admits. “In fact, I’ve never really been hunting before! Is there any help or advice you can give me?” He looks somewhat forlornly at you in turn.

Feel free to be creative about the help or advice you give, and make the appropriate skill checks (including aiding one another), use your spells, magic items, etc. Each person can try at most only one thing.

Doh! That was the worst luck chain of skill rolls I've seen in a while. :)

While Rogar regales Count Falroun about the fine art of tracking, Uesugi gives him some guidance on how the predatory skills in politics could be transferred to the hunt. Gallix shares some tips from local customs on hunting from his years spent in the Segang Jungle. The Count nods as he listens to you, but after a while, it is clear he does not quite understand and is nodding out of politeness.

"I appreciate your words of wisdom. I think I do better understand the process of the hunt. I am not certain though, if I can transfer that. I do not have your years of martial training, I'm afraid." The Count adds on, somewhat uncertainly, "I'll try speaking to the porters." The Count conspicuously ignored Uesugi's advice to speak to the Baron, likely still intimidated by his father-in-law.

Raevin, I would need a skill roll with that. You don't have to limit to just advice. You can physically help him during the hunt. If you going with stealth (since stealth is not something you can just advice someone on), roleplay how that would work and do your skill roll.

Count Falroun, wielding his musket, obediently follows along Raevin. He looks rather uncertain at first, but what he lacks in natural nimbleness he makes up for with a sharp mind, and soon grasps the key points. With the tips he picked up from the rest of the party earlier, he soon picks up a trail leading to a small clearing, revealing a sloth bear that Gallix finds very familiar. With Raevin's personal guidance (and perhaps it was still unsettled after the previous attempt on its life), the Count manages to creep up close enough to the creature so that when he finally fires his gun, the one shot was fatal. The sloth bear collapses, dead before it hits the ground.

The Count is stunned briefly at his success, but immediately turns around and hugs Raevin jumping for joy. For a brief moment, the noble in his late twenties is filled with a child-like glee!

When the porters eventually drag the animal back to the rest of the entourage, the Baron's wide smile and approving nod is more affirmation than what the Count could ask for. Count Falroun in turns pats Raevin on the shoulders, and offers a sincere and heartfelt "Thanks."

---

On the morning of the safari's third day, the smell of wood smoke fills the camp as porters busy themselves tending various cooking fires. Outside the camp, the jungle is alive with the sounds of monkeys, birds, and chirping insects. The porters skin, butcher, and cook the hunts from the previous day, including the rhinoceros brought down by Uesugi, and prepare the meat as meals for your party. At the same time, trained taxidermists prepare the skins for future stuffing.

The smell of food, however, soon attracts the attention of a band of macaques that gather at the edge of the camp. Although not hostile, they soon start causing trouble by overturning containers, stealing trinkets, and raiding unguarded food supplies. The porters, upon seeing them enter the camp, act reverentially toward the monkeys and offer them prayers along with bits of food and water.

Hearing the commotion, both the Count and Baron come out from their tents. Count Falroun is rubbing his shoulders, still aching from yesterday's exercise. He looks at the chaotic campsite in confusion. The Baron, however, is a man of action, and grunts in frustation. "Ah! I decimated the apes led by the Gorilla King himself! I am not about to be defeated by a troop of monkeys!" He waves his hands at them, attempting to shoo them away, without much success. He turns to your party, clearly quite agitated, "Well, what are you waiting for? Get rid of them!"

If you choose the "social" route, I would need a Handle Animal, wild empathy, or Charisma check. Nominate one person to make this check, and the others can use the aid another action. Of course, you could always try other ways. Or you could simply let the monkeys be... :)

Selima exchanges limited pleasantries through introductions and dinner. An amused smile graces her lips when the Baron refers to them as "graverobbers", thinking back to their most recent mission. Thirsty seems interested in sniffing him, but she keeps a restraining hand on the nape of his neck to prevent him getting too close.

"Do not be troubled over Thirsty. He has been with me since he was a cub in arms. He is my protector and my right hand. And who could be fearful of this." She said as she batted thick, dark lashes coquettishly and offered him her right hand in greeting.

She refrains from storytelling at dinner, instead enjoying the others tales. Except of course for Raevin's. "No wonder you were so subdued on our last task. You have my condolences." She said softly as she stroked the rougue's back in a gesture of comfort.
Sense Motive: 1d20 ⇒ 9 (Looks like this was the only spoiler uncovered. Thought I'd give it a try, though it was a long shot.)

Selima was tempted to take the offer and ride the elephant, but she needed to be near Thirsty in case of attack. So she decided to walk beside her companion off to one side, keeping herself between the Baron and Thirsty.

Now
Selima's held the natural world in great respect, but that did not mean she was opposed to hunting. Still, it seemed her party had already made quite an impact on the wilderness around them and she felt sure they had more than enough meat for them all. She reserved her talents for dissuading the curious simians. She cast a few cantrips to augment her appearance and set about shooing them away. A whirlwind of bright colors and eerie sounds whips up around her and showers of sparks shoot from her fingertips as she sways and waves toward the monkeys, trying to spook them away.

Welcome back, Selima!

Those two rolls are more than sufficient, aided by Gallix’s bluff. Rogar, why don’t you save your reroll? I’ll take Selima’s roll since she has the highest bonus, and use your first roll as aid.

The local porters stare at Gallix in some confusion initially, but he speaks with such authority, and even in their own tongue. A few of the more superstitious ones start to withdraw the morsels that they were feeding the monkey, and instead kneel and say prayers to the monkeys for causing offence. Shortly after, most of the rest of the porters follow suit. This wasn’t mentioned in the scenario as an option but I like it!

At the same time, Rogar, Uesugi and Selima starts to move around the horde of macaques. Through a combination of cajoling and coercing, you manage to convince the monkeys to leave and they gradually start to drift away, especially when the porters stop feeding them. After almost all of them have disperse, Baron Bomande also cools down. He looks somewhat sheepishly at you. ”Hmm, I think I might have over-reacted just now. Seeing the swarm of monkeys brought back bad memories of the war against the Gorilla King. No excuse though. But you handled it well. Violence is not always the best solution.” Adding on as he turns to Gallix, ”It seems that your years in this area have made you an expert on the local culture. I’ll look to you if I need some advice.” A number of porters discreetly approach Gallix to thank him in Vudran for preventing them from inadvertently offending their gods.

Just to share, if you had failed to disperse them or used violent means, you would now be fighting a monkey swarm. :) And I hate swarms!

Day Two of Hunting

With the commotion caused by the simian disturbance resolved peacefully, the safari quickly gets ready and set off again for their hunt. Raevin, sitting in the howdah together with the two nobles, notices that the atmosphere between the two of them has thawed significantly, one factor likely being Count Falroun’s successful hunt the previous day. The Baron starts by giving tips on hunting to him, and from such simple openings, their conversations gradually move quite naturally to other matters, such as the affairs of the court in Alkenstar, and the family plans of the newly-wed couple. Count Falroun gives Raevin a smile of gratitude.

As in Day One, those of you who wish take part in the safari hunt can do so. Roll a d8 to determine what kind of animal is flushed out for you, then make an ranged or melee attack that does lethal damage to see if you succeed. You may borrow a a light or heavy crossbow. No need to roll for damage. You may also use magic but that would be frowned upon as being unsporting. Selima, go ahead to roll for Day One as well if you wish. Having downed such a great beast from the first day Uesugi decides to speak in private to the Count, "You have learned much from Raevin, Count Falroun. Would you like to use those skills to catch something else this day? I will help to draw the animal out while you down it."

If the Count says yes Uesugi will head into the brush with the Count and will assist in helping flush out any animal. He will only intervene if the Count's life seems in danger. If he declines then Uesugi will not participate today and instead help where he can whether it is with the porters or with his group members.

Uesugi, can you give me an appropriate skill check?

Somewhat dissuaded by his failed hunt the other day, Rogar aims to get close and personal with the local fauna and ventures out with his axe instead.

As the Baron approaches him again to give him another chance to hunt, Gallix grins slightly. "Yes, I'd be glad to try my hand at it again, but today I think I'll use a weapon I'm a bit more familiar with." The warrior reaches to his belt where a single, heavily-worn leather glove hangs loosely. He slips the fingerless glove on, and it becomes clear that the knuckles and back of the glove are covered with thick plates of hardened leather and interspersed with wicked barbs and spikes. He ventures into the brush alongside the porters, waiting for them to flush out his opponent so he can strike.

I'm back! Some great reading there, great job all!

Ever since the incident with the spider biting the Count, Luurg has made himself pretty scarce. Most of his time seems to be spent assisting the porters with finding animals for the hunt or likely wandering off by himself looking for whatever odd things a 'Luurg' would be interested in.

Count Advice
Luurg rubs his belly and taps his chin, as he usually does when he thinks, as the others in the group offer up advice to the Count on hunting. "All good tings dey say. But dey leavin out da most important tings... Dem animal in da jungle, dey only doin tree tings: eatin, sleepin, and humpin." He says, while pantomiming each one in turn, ending with a solid hip thrust and grunt at the end. "If you wanna gett'm you gotta use dat. Find der foods and wait fer 'em to show up, find der beds and get 'em when dey sleepin, er you gotta sound n smell like one so dey come in tinkin dey gonna hump.. and bam! Suppa!" Survival: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17

Day 1 Hunt
Luurg prefers to hunt without the help of the Porters and ventures off nearby to hopefully return with a prize.

Animal: 1d8 ⇒ 2
Spear Thrust: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 Luurg creeps up on a dhole, but his wind is wrong and it leaps away as he attempts to impale it."Grrr dum Luurg!"

Monkeys!! Damn I wish I didn't miss this one..
As the group begins scaring away the monkeys and Gallix speaks with the porters, Luurg seizes his opportunity to sneak away. A while after they've been disbursed he returns carrying a bulging sack with a smile on his face. He brings it over to the group and opens it to reveal a bounty of fresh fruits: bananas, mangoes, and papayas. "Tanks fer distractin dem mad monkeys so I could steal der fruits! Anyone want someting?" He says with strands of mango sticking out of his teeth and yellow juice dripping off his chin. "Dey real gud!"

Hunting round 2

Luurg continues tirelessly as usual assisting the porters in finding game for the group, however as he hears Uesugi's offer to assist the Count in hunting a familiar voice rings in his head:

Valsin wrote:
"If you do not have any more ramblings of questions, you may leave. Now. The Count's ship sets sail promptly on the ninth hour tomorrow morning at the turn of the tide. Be there. Keep the Count and Baron safe. Help the Baron bag the tiger. Gain their favors. Find the ruins. Dismissed."

Mebe I shud help da Count, he'd like dat. Luurg will head on over to Uesugi and the Count. "I gunna get you a gud shot Count, you twos be ready!" With that Luurg will attempt to drive an animal into a clearing for a better shot. Assisting his hunting I guess? Sounds like Uesugi is doing something similar. Survival: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20 Luurg will do the same thing for the Baron. Whenever an animal is killed Luurg will rush up and immediately 'harvest' the animal's scent glands and bladders. "Deez ting real gud, bring in more animals tinkin dey gonna hump! Make us smell like dem, sneaks up on dem when dey eatin and sleepin!"

I guess it would be a diplomacy check. And then I'll roll a survival check as Luurg did to help the Count.

diplomacy: 1d20 ⇒ 1
survival: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

HAHAH next level Uesugi is taking a rank in Diplomacy!!!

Welcome back, Luurg! Things have been … more sanitary without you. :)

Uesugi, I just realised. What happened to your horse?

The Baron has elected to rest for this day. "We might reach the tiger's territory tonight. My old bones can't keep you with young ones. Go ahead though!" he smiles warmly as he waves you off. He adds just before you leave, "Look after him for my dear Yoliri, will you?" The party fans out again into the vegetation again on this day with the porters. Count Falroun politely accepts Uesugi’s offer of assistance but does not say anything in return, his face impassive. Instead, his eyes widened when Luurg shortly after approaches. The day before, he had pretty much ignored Luurg’s advice, likely because he found it disgusting, and now seems worried about what else he might suggest today.

At one end of the hunting party, the porters wake a sloth bear. Still groggy as it attempts to flee them, it stumbles towards Gallix, who takes a swing at it with his cestus. However, the blow glances of its thick hide. The bear takes a wild swipe at Gallix in return. The blow does not connect, but it takes the opportunity of the distraction to disappear into the thick jungle vegetation.

Please ignore the previous image of the sloth bear. That one was a giant sloth. :)

Shortly after though, Ivar bursts from the undergrowth, chasing what some of you recognise as a golden jackal. The small canine, in a bid to avoid the dog, runs into the path of Rogar, who dispatches it quickly with a swing of his axe. Luurg quickly dashes up to extract its scent glands and bladder. The porters do not interfere as those are parts that they would have discarded anyway. Before Count Falroun is able to react, Luurg has sprinted back, rubbing him all over with extracts of what he collected. The Count starts to stammer, ”What? Wait … what are you …” before he gives up and simply accepts his fate.

A short distance away, the party sees a languidly flowing river. Uesugi and Luurg spreads out to check it out. Uesugi does not spot anything of else, but further upstream Luurg spots a crocodile sun-bathing a short distance from the river. With flailing of arms and loud wailing, he startles the creature to flee in the direction of the Count. With his scent masked by that of the golden jackal, the crocodile does not notice the Count aiming down at it with his musket until it is too late. With a loud crack, Count Falroun fires a well-aimed shot, taking out the beast.

animal?: 1d8 ⇒ 3
musket, aid: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 6 + 2 = 25

Laughing out in joy, he gleefully approaches Luurg, and claps him on his shoulder, his earlier discomfort with Luurg gone. ”You’re right! That works! Crocodiles have incredible sense of smell, but it didn’t notice me! Haha!” When Uesugi eventually joins the two of them, the Count is excitedly examining his kill with Luurg, and does not notice him. I felt so sad writing this. :'(

Will let Selima resolve her hunting or other actions before moving on.

Ohh I wouldn't bring that gallant beast over here. He is stabled giving the stablehands attitude in Absalom. Lol don't feel sad. Uesugi will woo him yet!!!

Seeing the excitement Uesugi bows to both Count Falroun and the orc named Luurg. Not wanting to inject himself in their excitement Uesugi falls back a little and waits for the porters to come and drag the crocodile back. Then he heads back to the rest of the hunting party pleased with the days events so far.

Luurg smiles widely then claps his thick hand on the Count's shoulder. "See just like Luurg say. Now we gather croc scents for next hunt! Baron be very impressed... not to mention Mrs Count..." He then gives him a wink and drags him down to give him a first hand lesson in croc scent gathering.
