GM kuey |
Welcome to my PbP game. Hope you would have a blast!
Before we start, I would to share some of my general guidelines. (In spoiler tags to not take up space.)
PbP Matters
1. This discussion thread is open for all OOC matters, so no ooc tag needed. For OOC matters in the gameplay thread, please use the [ ooc ] tag.
2. Please post at least once a day on weekdays, and once over the weekends. More frequent postings are certainly welcomed, especially when you roleplay with each other. And on certain days, I would be able be able to respond quite frequently as well. Nonetheless, I would attempt to curb my attention to resolve encounters at most once a day to give the chance for everyone to respond. If there're no posts from you for a while, I would NPC your character to keep the game going if necessary. If you need to be away for some time, please try to let me know in advance and we'll work out something.
3. If you have played and/or GMed this scenario before, please do not metagame or spoil the plot.
Rolls and Skill Checks
4. I would do your initiative rolls, as well as perception rolls for the purpose of determining surprise (if relevant).
5. On knowledge checks for general information, I would usually put them in spoilers with the necessary DCs. Just go ahead to roll, and I'll trust that you would resist reading them if the roll fails (or least not to metagame). (Don’t forget that you can make knowledge checks untrained for DC10.) There might be exceptions for plot-critical information though, where I would explicitly ask for knowledge checks. As for knowledge checks for monster lore, please state what kind of information you want in order of preference together with your rolls, and I'll reveal accordingly, e.g. DR, resistances, special attacks, etc. Otherwise, I would reveal what I think your character would be most interested in.
6. On skill checks where there could be team effort involved, e.g. finding a hidden trail with survival, influencing attitude of NPCs with diplomacy, please be explicit when making the rolls whether you are attempting the check on your own, or whether you are assisting. There might be situations where only one character is allowed to attempt the check (and the rest to assist) – I’ll state so explicitly if that’s the case.
7. On skill checks in general, if I feel you have role-played well, e.g. gave a good description of what your character does to search for a trail, came up with creative ways to befriend a hostile NPC, I would give bonuses, or even waive the DC altogether. :)
Roleplaying Matters
8. The maps and handouts (at the top of the page) would display all the maps, handouts, pictures, etc as the scenario progresses. The most current page would be right on top, while previous ones would be left there for your reference. (Incidentally, Android and IOS has the Google Slides app in case you work off mobile devices.)
9. Please have your full character information up on your character's profile page. Also, please have your stat block updated with the key information. Minimally please have your current hp vs max hp, AC (normal, touch and flat-footed) and saves. Feel free to include others.
10. Finally, I do enjoy roleplaying more than rollplaying. Whilst I've accepted that PFS games do skew towards the latter, I would strongly encourage posts to be more than simply dice rolls. :)
Getting Started
Ok with that out of the way, a few tasks before we kick off.
A. Go to the Gameplay page and dot.
B. Go to the maps and handouts page and fill out the table there. (Don’t worry about the 3 boxes below the table, i.e. token, initiative and perception. I’ll take care of that.)
C. In this Discussion thread, do your day job roll (if any), and share whatever OOC information you would like the rest of the party to know about your character e.g. class, level, special abilities. Also, please let me know if you have played this scenario before.
D. (optional) I’ve set up some brief opener at the Gameplay thread. Please feel free to roleplay your character’s introduction and interaction with each other before the game really kicks off.
Oh yes, I did say I would only start on 12 Oct, but I can start earlier as soon as everyone’s character is ready. But no problem also to wait til 12 Oct.
Fantastic! Looking forward to getting this started!

Mjolbeard here!
Gonna go ahead and jump in on the preliminary tasks. I should say, however, that my ability to use this character is dependent upon him surviving the current scenario he is in. He's in a group going through Sky Key Solution (Hi, Uesugi!). So long as he doesn't die, he'll be here.
For the time being, I'll assume he'll survive and do my rolls.
Dayjob - Craft (alchemy): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Gorgeous Gallix Granbonne |
hmmm.. I recall signing up for this, but I don't recall which character... so what is the level range for this game... and I will happily play whoever fits.
Looks like you had initially put Raevin on the sign-up sheet.
Rogar the Relentless |
SkipperD here.
I'll bring Rogar, who is a cavalier with a twist, as he has a small-sized (for now) dog instead of a mount. Otherwise, him and Ivar (the dog) will cover any frontlining needs the group might have. I've played this scenario in CORE mode a while back, so I know that some of Rogar's non-combat capabilities might be useful as well.
Rogar will be free to start at the earliest on October 4th, but definitely before the 12th.

You signed up with Raevin. This is a tier 1-5 game and looks like it would be low tier.
Luurg |
"Oy, time for a mission so soon? Good. Luurg need beer money!"
Luurg reporting for duty, he's ready to begin whenever. I've just got to be sure I've done all his shopping is all. Also, don't worry Gallix, I'm sure Mr Peppers can help you make it to the end :)
Uesugi Hideyoshi |
waves at Gallix
The adventures of Gallix and Uesugi continue... provided we both live! So far so good but who knows what is left.
Day job - craft painting: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
will fill out the rest later.
Raevin |
day job craft alchemy taking 10: 10 + 7 = 17
sorry for slow response, was at a con all weekend...
have NOT played or run this scenario before.
Gorgeous Gallix Granbonne |
High-fives Uesugi and looks sideways at Luurg
Yes! The tale of the samurai and the barbarian must go on!
Oh...and Mr. Peppers...you look a bit...different. :P
Uesugi Hideyoshi |
what Peppers is in this too? its the new but old gang getting together again.
Selima |
Lots of familiar faces at this table it seems! Hello all! ^_^
Sorry for my delay, I did indeed miss the game announcement. Selima does not need to level, but I do still need to shop. If we'll have an opportunity to make purchases after the mission briefing, I'm happy to start anytime.
GM kuey |
No worries. Seems a couple are still clearing the sky key vault so we would only start on 12 Oct. And yes, there would be time for shopping.
Luurg |
Oh ya. I haven't run this before.
Day Job: Craft: Alchemy: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30 That includes the use of Crafter's Fortune spell.
Uesugi Hideyoshi |
Uesugi Hideyoshi |
Happy to see Luurg sad to not to see Peppers hehe
Luurg |
Selima will more than make up for Mr Pepper's arcane insights. Luurg has his own quirks... if you thought Gallix was a barbarian...
Luurg |
Does anyone know how time is measured between missions for the purpose of using the craft skill, in my instance alchemy? Assuming I can make the DC by taking 10 is it assumed I have the time to craft my own alchemy stuff with the normal rules? How does that interact with someone's day job check?
Raevin |
I don't think we're allowed to craft our own stuff in pfs...
Luurg |
Ahh I did some more research and found a FAQ!
How can alchemists craft in Pathfinder Society Organized Play?
Alchemists can use the Craft (alchemy) skill to produce items with their Alchemy ability. Follow the Craft rules on pages 91–93 of the Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook as well as in the alchemist’s Alchemy ability description. Any item created must be properly noted on that scenario’s Chronicle sheet. Under "Items Bought", note the amount of gold spent and the item created. Alchemists are assumed, for Pathfinder Society Organized Play, to carry the necessary items and tools with them to use available resources to create alchemical items. If they have a base of operations from which to do so, they may use an alchemy lab to gain the +2 bonus on their Craft (alchemy) check. Alchemists may never sell any of their created items nor may they trade them to another PC. However, they may allow other PCs to borrow or use items they’ve created (so long as the alchemist class ability being used allows them to do so).
posted December 2011
So I guess if I can get the DC, which isn't hard with the crafter's fortune spell and taking 10, I can make them at the 1/3 cost like normal. I didn't see any mention of day job messing with it.
Rogar the Relentless |
I'm having some issues with my internet at home, so I might not post as often as usual. Hopefully it'll get sorted sooner rather than later.
GM kuey |
Based on my understanding of your characters' combat role, I would generally place your characters in this order when in single file:
1. Rogar (with Ivar)
2. Uesugi
3. Gallix
4. Luurg
5. Raevin
6. Selima (with Thirsty)
And in double file, it would be 1-2, 3-4, 5-6. Quite a number of frontliners in this group. And 2 animal companions no less. :) Let me know if you wish to change any of this though.
Uesugi Hideyoshi |
Uesugi will always try put himself at the front. Based on his own edicts:
He must protect his own teammates with his life. He must be courageous.
GM kuey |
Alright, swap with Rogar, then! Not much difference since it's usually double file.
1. Uesugi
2. Rogar (with Ivar)
3. Gallix
4. Luurg
5. Raevin
6. Selima (with Thirsty)
Luurg |
Ya Luurg is a front liner but can also gain reach and fight from the middle so no worries. If it is in a wilderness guiding situation he would be leading the group I would expect, that is where he feels most comfortable and useful to the mission.
Gorgeous Gallix Granbonne |
Gallix also does his best to stay near the front of the line, but will give Uesugi the lead if it comes down to a choice between them. Since Rogar is a huntmaster, it seems appropriate to give him the lead or #2 spot while we're on the hunt with the nobles. I'll just make sure to have my sling handy in case I can't get into a good melee position.
Selima |
Selima will focus on battlefield control with her grease spell and directing Thirsty to engage the enemy on her behalf. Thirsty has Combat Reflexes for taking advantage of the AOO's grease will provide.
I am fine with a rear position, apparently I'll have to keep Thirsty far from our patron anyway.
I'm working on purchases and making sure her gear is updated.
GM kuey, will there be an opportunity to shop once the boat has reached Jalmeray? I only ask because there is a journal achievement for buying/selling an item worth at least 200 gp in a city other than Absalom.
GM kuey |
Selima, will answer this in game since it is something that Valsin would reasonably be able to address.
Rogar the Relentless |
I'll be at a local con this weekend, so if I go a bit quite, that's why. I'll post if and when I can.
Luurg |
The number of people in this party, counting the pets, is staggering! Its a pretty scary looking group with 8 total individuals ready to give you the business end of a spear, tooth, or claw!
Uesugi Hideyoshi |
Yeah I wouldn't like those odds if I was on the opposite end. Let's hope these 3 aren't some crazed zealots.
Raevin |
I am leaving on a retreat on Thursday the 3rd and won't be back til Sunday afternoon. I will try to keep up on my phone, but it's very hard to post using it, so please bot me as necessary to keep the game flowing. Thanks
Gorgeous Gallix Granbonne |
I'll also let you guys know I'll be out of town starting Friday evening and running through next Tuesday afternoon. Same as Raevin, I'll do my best to keep up on my phone, but posting will obviously be somewhat limited.
Thanks for understanding.
Gorgeous Gallix Granbonne |
If nothing else, I knew I could count on you or Uesugi to rag doll Gallix. Haha
Uesugi Hideyoshi |
lol for sure I'll even make sure you throw a couple of fists and elbows
Gorgeous Gallix Granbonne |
Cheers to you, Luurg, for the inventive reskin on your alchemist abilities. Pineapple mutagens and coconut bombs...just outstanding! :)
Luurg |
Holy crap I need a base attack bonus! I didn't think everyone would want to play the 'avoid Luurg's coconut game'.
Ya I just reread the splash weapon attack, they do target intersections not squares like I've been doing for a long time. Spells seem to do the same thing. Thanks for picking that up.
Luurg |
I just remembered Raevin and Gallix are out of town this weekend and into next week. Uesugi can you puppet Gallix? I'll do the same for Raevin. I don't know where Selima is if Kuey wants to automaton her.. or I can if you'd rather.
GM kuey |
Hi, seeing how postings slow down over the weekend anyway, and this is the final battle, I'm willing to wait for everyone to make their posts. Within reason, of course! :)
Luurg |
Np, I didn't realize this was the final battle. He's more than welcome to accept that sweet crit though if he wants :)
GM kuey |
Alright! We are nearing the end now, so to do some things concurrently, please roll for your chance to win a boon as part of Gameday V. I can roll for you but I think it's more fun if you roll it yourself. :)
Roll a d20. On a 20 or a 16, you have won one of the boons! Roll on a d6 to determine which boon you get and pm me your email address so that I can send to you when I receive it.
Me first.
1d2 ⇒ 1 Nope... :(
