Jakti Al'Awar
Hskoro, I'll take that as your action for "round" 2 to aid Amelia. Not within the scenario but I like it. :)
Jakti appears somewhat distracted when Amelia appears by his side, and even when she starts speaking. He nods politely as she speaks, glancing at Hskoro briefly, but is occasionally looking around, it seems at the windows. He replies rather formally, "Yes, yes, certainly I do trade, but sometimes, I think I do it primarily as a means to satisfy my thirst of knowledge. Currently, for example, I have a small, but prosperous business as a purveyor of magic scrolls. I see that you yourself are a user of the arcane craft. Do you perchance pay homage to Nethys, the two-faced god, whom many arcane users like yourself worship?"
Before Amelia has a chance to answer, he starts fanning himself with his sleeve. "Do you not find it warm here? I am feeling a little faint to be honest. The Qadira sun has made the manor stuffy, yet the servants seem less than willing to open additional windows to let in more air when I approach them earlier. Could you, or perhaps your bodyguard, convince the household staff to open more windows?"
Similarly, this favour of Jakti's does not involve any actual "rounds".
Separately, still pending "round" 2 actions from Amelia, Fargrim and Rilia. The favour for Passad and Jakti still pending, actionable by anyone, if you wish to complete them.

"A better question would be “what kind of goods we can't get our hands on if sufficiently motivated?” If you are wondering, the answer is “none”. Think of this: the Pathfinder Society goes literally everywhere, on Golarion, on other planets even on different planes of existence. We have access to stuff that doesn't even exist in Avistan or Garund... So excuse me if I answer your question with two other questions:“What do you need?” and more importantly "What are you willing to do to get it""
Pellius Melkior
As Vanya extols the benefits of allying with the Pathfinder Society, Pellius lean in closer and closer with greater and greater interest. "Ma'am, you have certainly sold it well. There is little that I do not need in supplying the Andoran Red Knights, and certainly whatever I can interest the the Five King Mountains the offset the trade deficit I have there. After the wake, I believe I will be in contact with the details." He glances over at Metella the dwarf. "Hmm, with my strong trade relations with Metella, if she could be convinced to come aboard, the three-way conglomeration from Absalom to Five King Mountains to Andoran! The possibilities!" He sounds rather excited at the prospects.Hskoro Tailfeather |
Hskoro nods to Jakti and glances around to locate the nearest household staff. He approaches them and gives a fangs revealing smile, "Your guess Jakti over there is having the vapors. Perhaps you should go and open up some windows to clear the stuffiness out some. It would wouldn't look good for a special quest to faint, would it?"

The majordomo overseeing the reception is busy directly his wait staff to clear empty plates, refill the food, serve drinks, etc and has little attention for anything else. That is until a hulking nagaji comes up face-to-face to him. He stares wide-eyed, especially at Hskoro's gleaming fangs, before nodding rapidly, "Of course, of course! Anything for the guests." He quickly beats a quick retreat while gesturing to some of the servants to open up more windows. Hskoro does not notice much difference - the air outside seems as warm and stuffy this time of the year in Qadira and the breeze from the windows do not seem to bring much relief. But perhaps it would make Jakti feel better nonetheless.
Jakti Al'Awar
"Ah, that's much better." Jakti smiles faintly, and although persiration is still beading on his forehead, he stops fanning himself. Nodding at Amelia, he praises, "You do have a rather efficient bodyguard, although a nagaji one is rather rare. Are you Pathfinders always so effective in your work?" He frowns faintly, leaning in with some interest at your reply.
/Amelia Rose/ |
Amelia tries to play the situation off with a belated wave at Hskoro's back as he rushes off to handle the "problem" before turning back towards Jakti. "Actually, I do follow Nethys and the pursuit of knowledge! How could it ever be anything else for such as us?? And I find scrolls to be incredibly useful, as well as a great way to increase my general repertoire!"
As the windows are opened, she replies "Yes, he is a good one, for sure. Strong and smart.. Anyways. We try to be, but you know how adventuring works sometimes. Generally, I would say that we work quickly and effectively, if sometimes a little more straightforward than I would like. There are very few missions that I have heard of that were complete failures.. and luckily none that I have personally been a part of. It all comes down to having a variety of skills to implement at just the right time, don't you think? That is just the dedication that we can provide.. should you wish to discuss an arrangement of course!"
I have no Disable Device or sleight of hand.. and Amelia really isn't the one you want to sneak anywhere. Are there any other tasks open? By my count I have Melior and Jakti scratched off and Passad and Rauger both require skills I don't have. This leaves Raffela, who seems to be beholden to Passad unless we just haven't gotten her task out of her.. yet

Vanya, sorry but you have taken your two "rounds" of influence checks - the first with Metella and the second with Pellius. That's why I've not responded to your posts as I'm waiting for the other players to catch up.
Rilia, sorry but I am not going to reveal how many successes are needed. :) But I'll give some hints. While each merchant has a certain DC, favours help in reducing the DC, and also higher checks earn more successes. Also, there are two tiers of achievement for each merchant. What the merchants say should roughly give an indication - those at least partially swayed would have made some commitments to trading by now. And at this time, none of the merchants have hit the second tier.
Sorry, I missed out that Shi also has not made the second influence check.
Vanya, let's just assume that Fargrim would have shared with the rest of the team about Passad's request while you guys were mingling around between round 1 and 2.

"Do you ever find it difficult keeping to the dictates of the prophets? She points out Rilia "So many worldly distractions. But I suppose with your mind on business it helps keep them at bay."

Although Vanya has taken her leave of Metella, Shi continues to work on the dwarf. 'This time, she appears to be listening more intently than before. "You speak truth. Information is the backbone of trade. As it is, dwarves are not good horse riders generally, but if your roc companion can ferry messages, that would be even more advantageous. Imagine, to know the rise and fall of prices at various markets around the Inner Sea... Well, you Pathfinders certainly are a very resourceful lot. Perhaps when this wake is over, I shall discuss further with Aaqir."
Temel Passad
In the short while that Fargrim is away, to consult with her party, Temel seems to have cooled somewhat. He is studying the interactions between Metella and the various Pathfinders in a deadpan manner until Fargrim returns. "Hmm? The party? Well, it is passable. It appears though that my trip might be a wasted one, neither trade nor amusement." He seems to ignore the question about the code, instead turning his attention to the Society. "Yes, I am aware that the Society can indeed be capable, in trade and otherwise. You, young lady for example, is speak with a cool and logical mind. But it also seems that your Society is quite willing to ally with whomever. That might not always been in my interest, isn't it?"

Yet each is wise enough to deal with me and benefit from my travel in their lands, even as they know I must also step foot into the abode of their rivals."

Alright, moving on. When Amelia and Rilia is able to post, just backpost something but in spoilers and I'll resolve accordingly. Thanks.
Vanya, on a pretext to check on how Metella and Shi are coming along. She certainly seems more friendly than before, and even grudgingly allows Vanya to give her farewell hug. Sure enough, she feels the crumpled of parchment in her sleeve, and with light fingers, easily pilfers the speech from her. She wanders back to Fargrim, who is still extolling to Passad the benefits of trade and diplomatic relationships, and just as casually, passes the parchment to her before disappearing into the crowd.
Temel Passad
Passad, of course, spots this and reaches out to take the speech from Fargrim's hand. He scans through it quickly, smiling bemusedly from time to time, then tucks it away into his sleeve without acknowledging it. He replies to Fargrim, having thawed somewhat. "Well, I can't say I agree with you on all matters. Trade is after all a competition, and while alliances may be forged from time to time, there are times that we must look out for our self-interest. I am amenable to speak further on how an trade alliance with your Society could serve mine. Ah, but it seems the ceremony is about to begin."
Some of you notice that Doritannia is still carefully scrutinising the discussion between Passad and Fargrim with great interest, and is nodding to herself.
But just then...
GM kuey |
As the shadows lengthen, the cleric Umut emerges from the temple on the second floor and calls for the guests’ attention, requesting they honor the deceased. With that, Aaqir al’Hakam and several other members of the Bahjari household carry a wooden bier bearing the shrouded body of Zarmina through the front door, up the stairs, and into the temple, where the guests file in afterward. Aaqir al’Hakam and the others lay the bier atop the altar of Sarenrae, and then join the other guests in the pews.
Umut opens the service by recognizing the goddess to whom the temple is consecrated as a sign of respect before transitioning to an invocation to “our lady of eternity, who shepherds the deceased to an everlasting afterlife.” Most of her prayers are in her native Osirian language, though her bidding the soul safe voyage down the River of Souls is delivered in Common.
Knowledge (religion) checks please.
With that, she invites the guests to come forward, place any gift to be interred with Zarmina on the table near the altar, and address the guests and the deceased. The merchants who have come to honor Zarmina all give splendid gifts. Doritannia Raffella speaks highly of Zarmina, and she further cites Temel Passad as a similarly upstanding member of the mercantile community who will certainly carry Zarmina’s torch of fair business practices into the future; Temel seems to expect this praise and nods in recognition of her kind words. Pellius Melkior likens memories of Zarmina to finely crafted dwarven stone—enduring, beautiful, and formed gradually over many years of virtuous work. Metella Rauger is somewhat embarrassed by this reference, but by the end of the Andoren’s speech, she is smiling in appreciation. Jakti al’Awar’s gift is a gold and jewel-embellished ledger, and his speech praises Zarmina for having lived a virtuous and charitable life yet suffering neither the kowtowing of sycophants nor the underhandedness of villains.
It is Passad's turn and he takes a quick sniff of his snuff, while bearing ornate golden tureen decorated with fine gems to lay with the rest of the gifts. He just about opens his mouth to speak when he suddenly caught by a wave of uncontrollable sneezes. Much as he tries to bring it under control, the sneezing fit only gets worse and he eventually simply returns to his seat in the awkward silence, cheeks flushed with an equal mix of embarassment and anger. One person in the room, however, is smiling.
Metella practically bounces up towards the front, bearing her gift, a delicately carved silver breastplate depicting genies and dragons. She confidently reaches into her sleeve, and is unable to keep back her shocked expression when she fails to find what she is looking forward. A quick pat around her body fails to turn up the missing speech, and she similarly starts turning red, in her case with stage fright. She mutters under her breath a very curt, "She was a good woman," before beating a hasty retreat back to her seat. Passad's sneezing fit has ended by then and this time, he carries a faintly bemused look on his face.
When it comes time for the Pathfinders to bring forward their gift and give a speech, Jakti, Metella, and Temel all watch them closely.
Yes, really. One person please come up to present the gift (the ring), and make a short speech. Would need a Bluff, Diplomacy or Perform (oratory) check.

"Zarmina was a great woman. Once who many here in the room loved, respected, admired or learned from. While I did not have the pleasure of meeting her in this life, that so many of her trading partners..[b]" here she turns and gives a nod to Temel "[b] such as Temel Passad have travelled great distances to farewell her speaks to her greatness. "
She turns to Aaqir "I know her family must miss her greatly, but they too appreciate that while life is fleeting, Zarmina was surely not a woman who would have us wallow in grief, but rather appreciate the life she led, and allows us to lead."
Finally she turns to Umut. "And that old friends would travel through such trying conditions to be here at the end says more eloquently than words possibly can what she meant to you."

Yes, only one check for the speech, as only one of you is making it. :) However, all of you may make the knowledge(religion) or sense motive check. Should clarify knowledge(religion) check only if you're trained.
When Fargrim brings up Passad's name, he perks and smiles faintly, recognising the nod that Fargrim is giving by praising his name so openly in front of everyone. Metella similarly perks up, her eyebrows creased although she does not react too strongly, at least for now. Umut seems oblivious to Fargrim referencing her at first, and starts visibly when she notices Fargrim staring looking at her directly. She stumbles and mutters, "Yes, of course, anything for an old friend," then quickly continues with the ceremony as Fargrim returns to her seat.
The speeches conclude as the sun approaches the horizon, its red light illuminating the room in crimson hues. Umut orates a closing prayer, finishing by brushing her lips against Zarmina’s forehead, whispers an inaudible prayer, and then brushing her hands gently down the body’s face as if closing Zarmina’s eyes forever. She then has several servants gather the gifts and then informs Aaqir al’Hakam that she is leaving to prepare the mausoleum for the interment, and exits. Aaqir nods in acquiesce, then stands and requests that the guests remain in the temple for several minutes for the final farewell before they carry the body to the graveyard.
Jakti al’Awar, picking up the cue, proposes everyone raise a glass and toast Aaqir al’Hakam and Emir Thalzar Gaatan, the hosts for the wake. The guests each take a moment to praise the two publicly, and going through all the merchants takes quite a few minutes. However, you zoom your attention especially to the five merchants to assess how their disposition towards Aaqir, and by proxy, to the Pathfinder Society.
Passad thanks the hosts for gathering the various merchants together, who seldom have the opportunity to come together, even if it is such a time of grief. Doritannia sings praises not just for their attentiveness, she goes on to extol the extensive reach of Aaqir's trade relationships across Absalom. Metella, in her gruff and direct manner, thanks the hosts for their hospitality despite a difficult time. Pellius gave a rather convoluted speech, touching on the connections he's had with Zarmina, moving to that of the relationship between Andoran and Qadira. Jakti's toast is direct and to the point, acknowledging the good that Zarmina and her family have done in service to the people.
Just go ahead and roll the checks for each, but you would not have time to react to what you've discovered, because...
GM kuey |
Jakti al’Awar is the last to toast the hosts, concluding his remarks by saying, “And may our hosts carry on the legacy of the departed, may Sarenrae see her safely to Nirvana and its city of High Ninshabur.” As he says this, suddenly a piercing scream tears through the air. One of the merchants is pointing a shaking finger at Zarmina's body, as it twitches to life!
The undead Zarmina clambers off the bier, tearing herself out of the shroud with a pained moan. Screams and chaos fills the temple as en masse, the merchants attempt to flee from the temple, but the double doors are only so wide. The undead points toward the door—in the same direction as Jakti, Metella, Temel, and Aaqir—and rasps “You have failed me! Betrayer!”
Aaqir is stunned briefly, but quickly gathers up his family. Passing you, you can tell that he is furious. "Whoever did this, how dare they desecrate her body! Use whatever means you have - end this sacrilege!" He quickly ushers his family out, while trying to bring some semblance of control to the crowd.

Fargrim's starknife is also unable to penetrate its thick hide. Shi releases a blast of holy brilliance from behind the mummy. The radiant energy sears its flesh, and the holy light catches it unaware and blinds it!
reflex: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Hskoro quickly takes advantage of its momentarily disability and swings his battleaxe, which cuts into its unnatural flesh. Again, its toughness prevents the axe from biting deeper than it could. Amelia moves to where she has a good shot of the mummy. Summoning her arcane power, she releases a beam of fire. The aim is slightly off but the blinded mummy stumbles right into the ray and is burnt badly. Its dried flesh seems especially vulnerable to fire.
scorching ray, PBS, inspire: 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 4 + 1 + 1 = 15 fire dmg: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 4, 3) = 15
The blinded mummy flails about. Although mindless, it knows something in front had damaged it so it swings its strong arms, and through blind luck, manages to smash into Hskoro's side. That powerful blow cracks quite a number of ribs, but even worse, a creepy feeling descends upon him as the mummy's curse attempts to bind onto him.

Rilia channels a brief burst of positive orgone energy as a sort of pick-me-up, and grabs a tureen off the buffet table.
channel positive (healing) energy: 1d6 ⇒ 3
She remains, as ever, inspiring.
Inspire Courage An affected ally receives a +1 morale bonus on saving throws against charm and fear effects and a +1 competence bonus on attack and weapon damage rolls.
Shi no kage |
Seeing that the creature was blinded, Shi grabbed his bow and moved to get a clearer line of sight. Taking careful aim, he let loose with an arrow.
Deadly aim, precise shot
Arrow: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 171d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Rilia, Sacred Hetaira |
Rilia is sad that Shi no kage does not consider her an ally for purposes of inspire courage. :(
Fargrim Arikfind |
Fargrim quickly summons a shield of her faith for Hskoro, and then dashes round behind the undead creature to offer flanking assistance to the more battle ready members of the group.
40' move, no AOO; Hskoro has a +2 to AC (deflection)
Vanya Kaleth |
Fortitude save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Vanya manages to shrugg off the effects of the malicious wind and slips behind the mummy, stabbing with her kukri...
Attack roll: 1d20 + 9 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 9 + 2 + 1 = 22 -> Damage roll: 1d4 + 5 + 3d6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 5 + (4, 4, 6) + 1 + 1 = 25
-1 to damage and attack roll if Vanya is still considered fatigued
Edit
But then realizes Faragrim has chosen to do the same and there's no space for flanking...
Attack roll should be 20 and damage 10, unless Vanya is fatigued, in that case Attack il 19 and damage is 9

Fort Save DC19 to avoid Exhaustion: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Fort Save DC16 to avoid Mummy Rot: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Ouch.
The blow from the mummy completely takes the fight out of Hskoro and he starts to breath heavy, blood running out of his mouth. Barely standing on his feet, he knows one more hit will probably kill him. He shouts at the mummy, "ATTACK ME, FIEND!". He then stumbles back, hoping the mummy doesn't realizes he is no longer directly in front of it. He plants his shield before him and braces himself to avoid another hit.
Free Action: 5' Step
Standard Action: Total Defense
**New AC: 24 (22 +4 Total Defense -2 Dex from Exhaustion(Dex 7))**
I don't think Fargrim's Shield of Faith will stack with my normal shield defense (which is +3) because they are both deflection. If they do stack, then new AC will be 26.
/Amelia Rose/ |
Fort save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
Sagging from the heat that is boiling off of the mummy, Amelia Rose takes a step back from the creature before clawing at one of the many wands hanging from her belt. She finally selects one, pointing towards the mummy and activating it. "Cease this madness, RIGHT NOW!! Stop attacking and stand still!!" she hollars out over the cacophony and tumult of the room. "Everyone, Stand Back! I may be able to get control of this thing!"
Spell resistance check: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Using my wand of Command Undead, ordering it to stop fighting.
Fargrim Arikfind |
Shield normally gives a shield bonus to AC. A ring of protection gives a deflecton bonus, so shield of faith won't stack with that, but does with a regular shield. The Shield spell won't stack with a normal shield though.
GM kuey |
Amelia, I apologise if I made it appear to excessively that the mummy is unintelligent. It is not and thus, it gets a saving throw. If I had been misleading, I'm fine if you retcon your action.
Vanya, the mummy is blind, i.e. flat-footed, i.e. you don't need flank to sneak attack. But anyway, if you and Fargrim doesn't mind, I'll reposition the two of you since you both want to flank the mummy.
The searing winds continue tearing through Pathfinders. Rilia and Vanya finally manages to resist the unholy heat wave, but Hskoro and Amelia continues to be drained of their life energy. In fact, Hskoro becomes on the verge of collapse! (Those who failed need to make a fort save again, now DC20, or keep taking NL dmg.)
However, Rilia immediately releases a wave of healing energy to counter. This counters some of the drain on the team, while also undoing some of the damage on Hskoro. Although still weak, he is able to remain standing. (By right, Hskoro would have heat 12NL with 8hp, and hence fallen unconscious, only to be brought back by Rilia, but I find it more cinematic to do this. :) )
Shi fires an arrow at the undead, but it gets deflected by its tough exterior. Fargrim, fearing for her ally, quickly lays magical protection on Hskoro while moving in combat range with the undead. Vanya takes advantage of this and moves to flank the creature, slicing deep at the weaker joint areas of the knees, damaging it severely. Hskoro moves away while keeping up his defences, attempting the draw the undead towards him.
Amelia whips out her wand, attempting to gain control of the mummy with its magic, but the domineering will infesting the body repels this.
mummy will save: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
The mummy makes to lumber after Hskoro, but feeling the devastating attack from Vanya turns and swings its arms at her. Being blinded, however, its attacks go completely wide.

Thanks for the clarification, GM! And of course, I'm ok with repositioning if Faragrim is

GM: Ok.. I knew mummies were intelligent, but I guess the descriptions of the rest of the effects made me think this was some variant or other.. even though she opened combat with speech. Thank you for the clarification, and I will take the retcon.. Amelia would know better than try something like that on a regular mummy, and we are getting pounded too hard to try and take half measures.
Retcon:
Amelia halts her hand as she scrabbles for the wand, and thinks better of it. A quick look around at her companions shows a dismal sight. With a sigh, she reaches into her mind and calls forth two magic darts comprised simply of her will to dart into the fight and strike the mummy. Once the missiles are away, she moves backwards.
