The lone figure realizes that he should have surrendered the ruby earlier as he collapses onto the ground. Quan Tai deftly picks up the ruby from his possession, but not before some other contestants noticing you doing it.

You have 1d4 ⇒ 2 rounds before they engage you for your ruby. Decide if you wish to collect more to increase your chances, attack them before they attack you, or flee from the tavern (although some opportunistic thugs are now guarding the doorway). I find description helps my rolls. Also, however much I can't take the actual total defense action, she can still be acting defensively fluff-wise till the mechanics catch-up. Take note that Kiang Zhen said that so long as one ruby glows, the whole group would qualify. However, there's only 50% per ruby glowing, so the more you get the higher the chance. But on the higher, surely the brawl can't go on forever? So really up to the group.

Ouncius, I'm moving along first. Go ahead and backpost those two rounds if you are searching for rubies.

In the brief lull (at least for your group), Naomi attempts to shepherd the party to the exit but they are more concerned with searching the floor for more rubies. Lox and Bishop are unsuccessful in their attempts with the mass of legs and bodies in the way, as the number of unclaimed rubies gradually decline. Tai joins in the search after buffing himself but was similarly unsuccessful. Azhagoth, however, manages to spot and pick one more up, shoving a unconscious body away to do so.

By then, another lone figure, this time a female human wielding a greataxe comes forward, her eyes intent on Tai. In her other hand is a throwing axe and she looks ready to launch it!

Sovereign Court

Year of Boundless Wonder

Naomi, although you are completely mathematically correct, without giving too much spoilers for now, the scenario unfortunately uses a less generous formula to determine success later. :(

Naomi, could you clarify your action? To aid in an ally's defence, (1) you need to specify which ally, (2) you need to be in a position to make a melee attack on that ally's opponent, and (3) make an attack roll against AC 10 (this one is done). If you succeed, your ally gains a +2 bonus to AC against that opponent's next attack.

Lox ignores the raging battle nearby. Spotting a ruby that has rolled under the table, he stoops down and retrieves it quickly. Ouncius, however, moves forward to engage the warrior woman, but his katana glances off her armor. Quan Tai similarly moves up and is more successful in his attack, bruising her badly and shaking her resolve in the process. Azhagoth, seeing his party mates engaging the warrior woman, takes a breather to heal himself.

My action is contextual. If an enemy moves into melee with one of her gem-carrying allies, she'll move and aid ac for the ally in melee. Naomi, not catching that the game is rigged, is happy with the number of gems, at least for the moment, and has set herself to avoid the group losing what has been gained. That is her action for any round she doesn't see a gem to grab.

Hovering in a defensive position, Naomi keeps her eyes open for threats or gems. She'll aid the defense of any of her gem carrying allies if they get engaged, otherwise, if she sees a gem, she'll use mage hand to bring it to her. Repeat this each round as default this encounter.

Spotting a gem, Naomi magics it towards her.

Azhagoth steps back in shock as Quan Tai unleashes an inhuman scream that seems to makes the samurai's helmet ring with deafening sound. [i]More trickery?![/ooc] He carefully watches the elf and tries to determine the source of this unfamiliar ability.

The spell is just beyond his capabilities to identify at the moment, but he does note the gestures Quan Tai made as he cast the spell.

At the moment, more pressing matters presented themselves as the enemy samurai cut deeply into the other unarmed warrior he had joined in attending the meeting. Azhagoth steps forward and carefully thrusts his pole-arm past Naomi to strike at the challenger.

Bishop turns to indicate his discovery to the others when he watches as the woman named Naomi nearly drops to the ground when a Tien warrior by the door stabs her with an unusual thin blade. He stands there by the door almost daring the others to move forward to challenge him.

Bishop seeing things are going to get worse runs to the door fully agreeing it might be better to get out this place now. As he draws closer to the others he throws a dagger at the Tien looking to get his attention so the others can move up.

FYI, a charged touch spell discharges into the next valid target that touches the caster, thus the caster can attempt to do the touching, or wait to be touched.

I don't think that is correct. As quoted below, you can hold the charge to make touch attacks in subsequent rounds until it hits and discharges. But there is no mention of it discharging should someone touch you. I searched the forums and that is also the general understanding. If the rules state otherwise, please point me to it.

d20pfsrd wrote:

Touch Spells and Holding the Charge

In most cases, if you don't discharge a touch spell on the round you cast it, you can hold the charge (postpone the discharge of the spell) indefinitely. You can make touch attacks round after round until the spell is discharged. If you cast another spell, the touch spell dissipates.

Just as the ronin approaches Naomi with his katana, she reaches out with her hand and manages to brush his armor, sending a shock of electricity into him, just before his blade cuts into her.

Quan Tai wrote:

"Ha! I am no samurai! You sound like my daimyo (lord). Right before I slice off his head!" Despite his bravado, Quan Tai seems to have hit a nerve and he looks shaken. Just then, Quan Tai bellows a earth shaking shout at the ronnin, but he manages to stand his ground and shakes off the effect.

Azhagoth swings his weapon at the ronin, but with his party mates in the way, his attack misses. Bishop throws a dagger at him, but it with the ronin in close combat, the aim is difficult and it similarly misses. Lox chops at the ronin with his greatsword but the ronin manages to twist away at the last minute. Ouncius slashes at him with his katana, but it unfortunately glances off his armor.

Ok, quite a bit of unlucky dice rolls there. But also want to point out that the ronin would have cover bonus against Azhagoth's reach attack due to your allies. Also, Bishop doesn't seem to have point-blank shot so would incur a -4 for ranged attacks into melee, on top of the AC cover bonus the ronin receives. Guys, he's solo so ripe for flanking! Naomi, you posted the readied action, but not your action for this round. I'll move along, but go ahead and post two rounds of actions in your turn. Azhagoth, there were two rounds of respite before this combat started in case you wanted to do some healing.

Discounting Naomi as a threat after his previous devastating strike, he turns to glare at Quan Tai but with the rest of the party threatening him, he turns his attention to Ouncius instead.

Oddly enough, also from d20pfsrd, on combat page, under actions (listed by action length, standard, move, etc), cast a spell, holding the charge, see the part I bolded in particuler,
"If you don't discharge the spell in the round when you cast the spell, you can hold the charge indefinitely. You can continue to make touch attacks round after round. If you touch anything or anyone while holding a charge, even unintentionally, the spell discharges. If you cast another spell, the touch spell dissipates."

Lox greatsword almost misses, but the ronin steps into his path while trying to avoid Azhagoth's attack. The swordcuts deeply, burning with the acid along the way. Before he barely has the time to scream in pain, Quan Tai steps up and punches him hard in his solar plexus, knocking out his breath. Naomi steps away while drawing her weapon. Ouncius, horrified by the dishonorable act that the ronin is boasting about, slices ineffectually as his blades glances of his armor again. Bishop rushes into, ducking under Azhagoth's bec de corbin, and stabs his dagger at down on the ronin's thigh.

As your party make your way out of the tavern, a few other combatants also take the opening to flee. Others, however, quickly take over the ronin's position, and another fracas develops at the entrance after you have left.

In the distance, you seem to hear the sounds of marching feet heading towards the direction of the tavern. The party quickly ducks into an abandoned alley and in the maze of narrow streets and passageways, make your quite some distance from the the Devil's Dregs before stopping to catch your breath.

Recalling the last instructions of your Decemvirate, you start hunting for adequate lodgings for the night.
