"I do not...recall how I know these things. My first memory was being sold as a slave a few years ago, beyond that there is nothing." Meleren confesses with no emotion.

"I don't know anything about that strange junk, I just want to get out of here." Shechera adds, probably reflecting the viewpoint of the rest of the party.

"Oh, I thought it was a bubble or something." Shechera admits with a shrug as she follows him.

Aaziroth looks at Meleren with a concerned look on his face. "So there is no air in the room beyond the door? Have you seen anywhere that the e-pick could be used? Maybe to put air into the room?"

Meleren shakes his head to Aaziroth's question as the group loads back into the chamber, "No, I am afraid not. It could be used to, say, activate this chamber without the code or open one of these doors if the buttons weren't working. I have not seen anything like that for the air."

Oleander has to input the number code back into the keypad and press the ion gauntlet into the handprint for the room to move up again. Once it glides up, the same flashing red light, buzzing noise and warning mouth appears into the wall to repeat the message: "Negligible atmosphere detected. Do you wish to proceed? Push open button twice for yes.”

She thinks for a moment, and puts away her bow, drawing her sword instead.

"I'm not sure how arrows would fly with no air around." says Oleander.

A thoughtful expression crosses her face.

"I'll open the door, then with a bit of luck, we will look in, and then I'll close it again and we can head downwards. If I can't get the door closed and down, then... well, we'll have to wing it."

"Big breath everyone.."

says Oleander, who pauses, and then presses the open button twice.

Aaziroth does as Talwin and takes a deep breath before the door opens.

Oleander pushes the button twice and air is once again sucked into the next room. It immediately begins getting difficult to breath, which probably indicates the door should be shut again very soon to conserve what air is left.

Inside, you see a series of glassy panels forming a semicircular array along the southern walls of this circular room. Some of the panels are lit but blank, while others flicker with a jarring, black-and-white dotted pattern. Many are cracked or simply dark. A throne-like chair sits before a mechanical table in the center of the room. A skeleton slumps in the chair, one bony hand grasping a large lever. Its other hand, wearing a strange, silvery glove, rests upon a glowing plate.

Oleander quickly punches the door close and go down to level 1 buttons.

Once able to breathe again she says

"I think the best bet is to dash in and grab the gauntlet. If I do that with a rope around me, then if I fall to a trap or uncoscious, you can probably pull me back."

before the button is pressed twice, Kuaizi heeds Oleander's advice and takes in such a breath, his cheeks form perfect semi-spheres.

Back down, the monk agrees with her plan. "Allow me. I will make the dash, Oleander-chan." He takes the rope and begins to wrap it around his own waist before reentering the chamber...

She checks the rope is secure and there is plenty to pay out to allow him to quickly make a run to the chair.

"He's not really going to risk himself like that, is he?" Shechera asks with an incredulous look.

"That would be extremely brave of you, I wish you luck." Meleren adds, appearing intrigued with Kuaizi's altruism.

Assuming he goes through with it, Kuaizi can make two separate Diplomacy checks to influence Shechera and Meleren, although everyone else can certainly make aid another rolls. If you succeed, you might go a long way in bringing them towards the path of redeemption.

The monk bows to his companions, uncomfortably humbled by the praise. He simply replies, "You are all too kind to this poor monk."

To Shechera, "Yes, Shechera-chan. I only do what I can to be a living example of the teachings I learned at monastery."

To Meleren, "Thank you, Meleren-san. When self is taken out of the equation, one does not think of oneself as brave, but simply does what one must do in accord with perfected nature."

Seeing the confused looks on Shechera's and Meleren's faces, Aaziroth adds,"While it is sometimes difficult to understand my friend's statements, they convey wisdom and he is very brave to do this. Before we attempt this, I would like to ask a favor of you. Our original reason for being here was as a training exercise for the Pathfinder Society. Based on what I have seen, our goal was to retrieve an amulet from a chest, which I believe you now wear around your neck, Meleren. If Kuaizi is not successful, I am sure his soul would be at peace if he knew we had achieved what we set out to. May we have the amulet to be able to return it to show we completed our task?"

Although her initial suspicion of the group has eroded, it doesn't appear that Kuaizi's words have really impressed Shechera one way or another.

Meleren also appears unmoved, but the man rarely tends to show any emotion at all. He does, however, nod at Aaziroth's request. Removing the tin amulet from his neck, he hands it to the paladin. "Here, have it back. It is the least we can do for all of your assistance."

Ok, so I guess the entire group is going to the upper floor again, but this time with Kuaizi tethered with a rope?

Yeap. Lots of freeboard on the rope so he can run without interruption. The rest of us stay in the lift, and get ready to pull him back if trouble arises.

The third trip up the elevated chamber goes much the same as the last two--A warning light and buzzer go off, and the mouth gives the same warning. The door opens after pressing the button twice and it immediately becomes difficult to breath.

This time, however, Kuaizi bravely exits the chamber in a mad dash for the silvery glove on the skeleton's body. Three things immediately become apparent to the monk. First, the complete lack of breathable air means he needs to act quickly before he runs out of whatever is left in his lungs. Second, the lack of air pressure reeks havoc on his body, and his head and eyes feel like they're going to pop. Third, he can not hear anything anymore.

In game terms, Kuaizi is currently suffocating due to lack of air. He can last 11 rounds if he only takes move actions, but any standard or full-round action cuts that down by an additional round. The lack of air pressure does 1d6 ⇒ 6 damage to his body. Also, being in a near vacuum muffles all sound as if the room was under the effects of a Silence spell.

If the elevator door isn't closed soon, the rest of the part will experience the same effects.

Running directly to the skeleton, Kuaizi sees that a small illusion of the what looks to be the whole Red Redoubt floats above the plate his gloved hand rests on. Perhaps more importantly, he can see the skeleton's ungloved hand rests on a lever with a sign that reads 'Air Pumps.'

His cheeks puffed like semispheres once more, the monk's will power pushes him past the pain from the crushing pressure. He makes fast work of reaching the skeleton. Leaving the gloved hand where it is so as not to disturb the strange power, he pulls the lever that reads Air Pumps.

Kuaizi pulls down on the lever and, with what sounds like gears grinding and a large whoosh, air begins to flow into the room from vents in the walls, restoring the breathable air as well as re-pressuring the space and returning sound.

As the group begins to breathe a proverbial sigh of relief, they are given no time to congratulate the monk when through the same air vents emerge two small, yet ominous seeming cloud-like creature with dark hollows reminiscent of eyes and a mouth.

One flies directly to Kuaizi and, before the monk can react properly, the creature slams him with its fists. 4 damage to Kuaizi.

The other moves to the chamber door and also solidly hits Oleander with a slam. 2 damage to Oleander.

Knowledge (Planes) to identify.

Unsure what to do, the two bandits Meleren and Shechera prepare their weapons and wait to see how the Pathfinders handle things.

Talwin hits the creature soundly with his longspear, and parts of its cloudy form break apart, but it remains a threat.

Talwin:

The creatures are small air elementals. As elementals, they are immune to critical strikes, flanking and precision strikes. They also possess a whirlwind attack, but can only use it on creatures smaller than they are. It is more difficult to hurt them if you're flying. They have no other special resistance, immunities, vulnerabilities, or damage reduction.

After inhaling sharply, the monk releases a "Caw! Caw!" before swirling his staff defensively and warning the remaining elemental, "Stand down, strange creature of airyness, and no harm will come to you!"

The monk is still reeling from airless pain and an airy smack, however, as two swift swings from his staff go strong but wide.

Since the Pathfinders evidently have this battle well in hand, the bandits opt to just watch for the moment.
