Fargrim Arikfind |
Fargrim carefully approaches the giant creature, wondering what it is, and how it may be most hurt.
arcana?: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
She then calls down a judgement of destruction as she circles around and eventually punches it.
Movement sufficient to get there without AOOs I hope
strike,flank: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 5 + 2 = 9
damage: 1d3 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 2 = 6
Fargrim Arikfind |
Does the creature have reach? Fargrim will hope that it doesn't, and if it does, hope it has already used its AOOs for the round on the others closing!. If necessary she will sacrifice her attack for movement to help with flanking for the others (and herself!)
Of course looking up a post, a roll of 9 to attack probably won't hit anyway :-) Anything from the monster lore check?
Lissa Villasani |
With the smaller snake dealt with, Lissa turns her gaze on the larger snake beast. With a step back, she takes a deep breath, then reaches forward to grab at something with both hands. As she does so, motes of water become visible in the air in an rather large area around her, floating briefly before streaking toward Lissa's hands. As this is going on, the unmistakable sound of ocean surf crashing against rocks likewise fills the air. After a couple seconds of this, Lissa extends the much larger then normal orb of water toward the snake beast, and the torrent of water streams past Sirrah and toward the beast.
5-foot back
Move action - Gather Power
Standard action - Empowered Water Blast
Empower Metakinesis(1 Burn)+Gather Power(Move)(-1 burn)=0 burn
Empowered Kinetic Blast(PBS,EO): 1d20 + 8 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 8 + 1 + 1 = 20
Kinetic damage(PBS,EO): 3d6 + 6 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (3, 5, 2) + 6 + 1 + 2 = 19
So with the Empower Metakinesis, This attack is doing 28 damage.
Fargrim Arikfind |
"Watch out, its body heals rapidly." warns Fargrim.
"If we cut off its head, then it needs to be burned or coated in acid."
Can Fargrim draw a torch while she moves?
Sirrah Lakewell |
Speak comfort to me Fargrim, your words bring bad tidings.
Sirrah wonders about his abilities against a creature that simply regrows it's lost parts. Maybe it can't heal up from these pokes I'll make in it's body.
And thrust!
Sirrah stabs at the mighty hydra!
rapier: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
damage + percision: 1d6 + 4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 3 = 9
If Sirrah's attack hits the mark, he uses his martial prowess to attempt to startle the beast.
swift, menacing swordplay deed to Demoralize: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Hydra aren't afraid of rapiers!
GM Granta |
Esh - 4 damage
Fargrim moves behind the hydra, avoiding a bite from it. Lissa blasts it with a wave, and Sirrah thrusts his tiny stick into the hide--somehow managing to find a vital organ.
Combat Over
Sirrah Lakewell |
Killing blow regains a panache
Wow! I thought that thing was going to eat me! Fargrim do we need to burn this thing? Sirrah waves his rapier in the air with confidence.
Pulling out his Wand of CLW he hands it to Triblin. If you wouldn't mind my good Triblin.
Wand of CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Wand of CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
After the healing he begins to look around.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Fargrim Arikfind |
Fargrim lights a torch and proceeds to burn the heads, making sure it cannot come back to life.
Esh Kethar |
"As you said, my friend! Quite an adventure! I don't know anything about this but let's burn the thing anyway!" shouts Esh, trying to hide the shame of having been useless in fight.
Triblin Runlark |
Hey, sorry about the delay in posting, of course Triblin will help heal the others. Life has been busy beating my head in with no Internet and a new dosage of meds.
Lissa Villasani |
Lissa drops the remaining gathered water on the ground with a splash. "Whatever the plan is with the horrible snake thing, can we do it quickly? Whatever caught Juilet's attention is in that building, and hopefully she is as well." She gives a second look toward the ruin, then back at the others.
GM Granta |
After burning the hydra's body, the party proceeds into the ruins. This room’s high walls are made of enormous blocks of crumbling, mossy granite, but its roof is entirely absent, leaving it open to the sky. Folding tables and makeshift scaffolds have been set up around the room, and the walls have been carefully cleaned and labeled, revealing a mosaic depicting sway-backed, one-eyed astronomers at the base of a tall tower.
An opening leads to the east, below a high balcony topped with a huge ivory sphere. Doors leading north into the hill have been smashed open to reveal a wide hall. A rhythmic pounding can be heard from that hallway.
Seven archaeologists are engrossed in their work, clearing the rubble and cataloging their finds. One walks up with a big smile and offers her hand to each of you, ”Hi, I’m Juliet! Are you here to help us catalog the site?”
Sirrah Lakewell |
Sirrah's jaw drops in disbelief. Juliet, you say, glad to see ya your just the person we've been looking for. Old Boltz Zapp is worried sick about you.
He waits for a response, seeing if she knows enough to recognize her staff member back at the other site.
Fargrim Arikfind |
"Yes!" says Fargrim.
"They are packing up and thinking of moving back to a safer location. I think we managed to persuade them to stay for an extra few days but..."
She pauses, listening.
"But what is that sound?"
GM Granta |
"Tell Zapp we're all fine, just fine. This site is absolutely fascinating, I've never seen anything like it! We've found Cyclopian sextants and astrolabes, right beside Azlanti jewelry that we suspect was once magical."
"They're leaving? Oh. I'm sorry to hear that. That means we need to work even faster here. We can't afford any slow downs or breaks now!"
"That sound? It's nothing, we just ignore it. A big, iron golem stormed through here a couple of days ago, but it's completely harmless. We haven't even seen it since then."
Lissa Villasani |
Lissa shakes her head in utter disbelief. "Ms. Dias, Aya Allahe sent us to find you after you failed to report in as you were doing." After a moment of registering Juliet's comment, she pauses and looks at her curiously for a moment. "Do you mind if we look around here?"
Something is seriously wrong here.... Juliet would recognize one of those golems from the Azlant Ridge site, and should know what would make it active. At the very least, she'd realize that Sirrah screwed up her second-in-command's name. Either this is someone in disguise or someone is screwing with her head....
Fargrim Arikfind |
Fargrim looks at the woman in disbelief.
"Ms Juliet. An iron golem walks though your site and you don't investigate it, or why it is here?"
She checks with the others, to see if they are as astounded by the revelation.
"Perhaps we should go and seek it out, just to make sure it really is harmless."
Triblin Runlark |
"This, doesn't seem right. How is everyone feeling?" Triblin asks while trying to examine after he taps Esh with a wand. "Not to say that your group isn't well, but the lack of reports, and ignoring as to what transpired earlier..... Are you okay? I am quite skilled with the Healing arts."
CLW Wand: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Heal: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
GM Granta |
@Lissa: That was a GM mistake, not Juliet's.
"Just be careful not to break anything on accident and don't disturb our work. And if you find any glowing stone discs, please bring them to me."
"There's no need to investigate the golem. We already know it's harmless. The Starwatcher Spirit told us so."
"Great! Never Better!" Triblin doesn't find any injuries on the archaeologists in this room, but does sense some sort of charm effect.
Fargrim Arikfind |
"The Starwatcher Spirit? Who, or what... is that?" asks Fargrim, growing more concerned by the second.
Triblin Runlark |
Pursing his lips, the gnome mentions towards the rest of the group to meet him a bit away from the archeologists, and mentions in a whispered tone, "I don't know much about charms, but I am assuming that they might be under one, though I am not sure. Any of you can confirm this with me? I have a bad feeling about this situation."
Sirrah Lakewell |
After making his own assessment and listening to his much smarter allies as well, Sirrah weighs in, in a lower tone but certainly not a whisper.
Well something smells fishy, and it sure ain't fish. Besides whose going about there business, when there's a dag'gum hydra right next door. Two and two, ain't three, that makes four; but this makes five.
You think perhaps he was trying to say things don't add up.
Fargrim Arikfind |
Concerned, Fargrim also talks with Juliet, trying to find out whether she is indeed possessed, charmed or being coerced by someone.,
"Who is this starwatcher, and how do you talk with it?" she asks.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (7) + 18 = 25
GM Granta |
"The Starwatcher is a loci spirit, a benevolent essence tied to a particular location--in this case, a specific room." Juliet points to a crack in the hallway wall, "If you look and speak into that crack, you can talk with the Starwatcher Spirit on the other side of the wall."
Fargrim Arikfind |
"Uh huh..." says Fargrim, not happy with the idea.
"What do you see when you look through it?"
A vampire? But they could easily escape through the hole..
Lissa Villasani |
Lissa closes her eyes for just a moment.
Dear, remember that you see clearest on a starless night... Someone or something is charming folks, and wants those people to ignore something made for hunting fiends.... I wonder...
She opens her eyes and looks toward Juliet, bringing a bright smile to her face. "Besides the Starwatcher, was there anything else that you found here? What else can you tell us about?"
Lissa's faking sincerity as best she can.
Bluff: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
Esh Kethar |
CLW wand: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Esh looks at the scene with amusement as he sees Fargrim and Lissa are doing a good job in asking the right questions.
Sorry folks, I was in a convention this week-end and thought I could check my PBP. ^^
Fargrim Arikfind |
"I see..." say Fargrim.
"Could you give us a tour of the rest of the site, and show us some of the amazing discoveries you have made. Maybe then we too could see this spirit.."
Sirrah Lakewell |
Well mates, I don't know about you, but the dark room sounds promising. Sirrah jokes, but not really.
Is Arletta the spirit?
But seriously, let's have a closer look inside this complex
Lissa Villasani |
"Yes, let's look at this site," Lissa agrees, watching the archaeologists work. "Let's go."
Fargrim Arikfind |
I missed that bit about Arletta. What did she say about Arletta?
Esh Kethar |
I just re-read the dialogue with Juliet and she never mentioned Arletta.
Esh grins widely. "To the adventure, then! Forward into the complex! We shall break enchantments and charms! We arrrrrrre the PPPPPPATHFINDEERRRRRRRRRRRSSS!" shouts the ganzi at the top of his lungs, visibly very excited.
Triblin Runlark |
Triblin hops back at the, companion's, outburst before a wide grin appears on his face. "This is more like it. While I don't necessarily like others getting hurt, it is my sworn duty to help the injured and show the gifts of my goddess! Onward my friends, towards to unknown!"
GM Granta |
That's what I get for running three tables of the same scenario. Apparently you guys didn't ask the question that leads to Arletta, but it's nothing secret, so . . .
"Be careful not to touch the sphere. One of our companions, Arletta, touched it, and she immediately became sick. I think she's somewhere in the camp"
You walk over to the tents, but don't see the ill archaeologist.
Fargrim Arikfind |
"What sort of sickness did she get overcome by?" asks Fargrim.
"And may we see the sphere?"
Assuming she gives the okay, Fargrim will go and inspect it, both magically and with her eyes.
perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
And detect magic
Fargrim Arikfind |
On the sphere to start with, but she'll have it going everyone since her talk with Juliet, and just walk slowly. There is no apparent rush at the moment
Fargrim Arikfind |
spellcraft: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
"Well... it is magical... but I have no idea about what type. Sounds like it might be... dangerous?" she wonders.
"Did the Skywatcher suggest people avoid this area?" she asks.
Esh Kethar |
"OWwww come onnnn! We're wasting tiiiime!" says the ganzi jumping repeatedly in the air like a child.
"Maybe the problem's spirit, so let's deal with it beforehand and we can come afterwards to deal with Arletta. She won't die, duh."
Triblin Runlark |
Triblin looks quizzically at the sphere with his hand on his chin. "I don't know as to what is going on, but we need to find out as to what is going on."
Lissa Villasani |
"Triblin, you're a healer, right?" Lissa finally says after a nervous pause. "Maybe you'll have more insight to whatever has happened to Arletta. It's some clue to this place at least."
I assume that, with the previous comments, I'll need a perception check to find her?
