GM Derek W |
The guard makes as if to surrender. Belvica strikes, but not fatally. He throws up his hands and speaks a little loudly while moving away:
"Alright! I give up! Please don't kill me!"
And he takes a withdraw action to move away at half speed without provoking an AOO.
You hear some sound from inside the dilapidated mansion...
No other enemies appear yet. This guy is genuinely surrendering so a killing blow now would require a formal warning about an alignment shift. But each of you can take a 2 rounds of actions before the next "wave" of combat. The doors should be marked on the map.

Belvica Insnare'ba |
Belvica frustrated at this man's weakness, moves to the door and drops one of her bags of caltrops at the entrance.
And then moves to next door and does the same. She then waits next to the opening and the caltrops prepared for,

Xavian still invisible I hope moves up to a position to where he can see if more enemies might approach. They haven't needed me so far...
Heccan Abraxi |
Heccan closes his eyes, pinches the bridge of his nose and exhales deeply. Not to tarry, he opens his eyes and looks about, trying to piece together a plan of action in a rapidly deteriorating situation. Looks to Tristan as he falls forth his power to fortify him in the fight to come. He waves his arms about him as his eyes flash red. Of all the... Heccan finds himself surprisingly at a loss for words but quickly finds his voice You know Tristan, even the Sarenrae took the advice of Asmodeus when they worked to cage the rough beast. Walking through walls is not always the way. But the dies is cast, it appears. Go on ahead and let these folks know what the Inheritor's wrath feels like, i suppose...
Heccan finishes his preparations.
Tristan Zanderholm |
Tristan takes the surrendered pirates weapons and tosses them into the sea. "Lie here and don't move, and on my honor, no more harm will come to you. Flee or fight, and I cannot make the same promise. It is not too late for you to repent, and join the cause of right, brother!"
Tristan takes out his rope and begins binding the man, but wary of the noise coming from the cabin, he has to only do a half-way job. Taking back up his longsword and shield, Tristan stands between the door and Heccan.
"If you are trying to thank me for dealing with these pirates, Hec, then you are most welcome! Now, let's see who's coming out the door, shall we?"
GM Derek W |
The team takes up new positions as the surrendered enemy runs away. Sundenly, the door bursts open and three men can be seen inside!
The man in back holds a rapier and wears the holy symbol of Besmara. He calls out:
"Get 'em boys!"

Xavian will move to a spot to where he should have a clean shot at the one in the doorway and fire an arrow! If there is no cover penalty from where I was, I'd stay there and then take a move action.
Bow, invisible: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14 for Arrow: 1d4 + 1 + 2d6 ⇒ (3) + 1 + (5, 3) = 12
Heccan Abraxi |
Heccan shakes his head with a smirk that betrays annoyance mixed with amusement and follows the charging paladin. He positions himself a step behind Tristan and looks to unleash a small portion of his dark energies at the pirate in the doorway.
Heccan takes a move action to get behind Tristan and will try to take a standard action to fire a Ray of Frost at the pirate in the doorway if he has line of sight.
Ranged Touch Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Xavian's arrow flies true, and the fact that he was hidden allows his attack to take the first man in a vital spot, felling him immediately!
The Besmaran curses, then seems to split in two. Now there are two of him in the same space!
Now he steps out of the doorway as he begins chanting something else.
Separate spellcraft checks to ID each.
Ok, so the first thing is a domain SLA and specifically called out as a move action. He took a 5' step and then began casting something else with a 1 round time. This should be kosher, no?

Ok, will change my action based on the post. Quick question, does Heccan have light of sight on the caster from where he is standing? Also, will try to determine spell via spellcraft.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
Tristan Zanderholm |
The post above says the casting man steps out of the doorway. I take it that means the map (showing him inside still) is not current? Either way, Tristan steps up to engage in melee.
Tristan steps forward and engages the priest of Besmara in melee combat. He swings his longsword one of two duplicates, whispering a silent prayer that he has chosen correctly.
Tristan Longsword, Power Attack: 1d20 + 10 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 10 - 2 = 16
Real or Fake, low is real, if a hit?: 1d100 ⇒ 75 FAKE...damn.
GM Derek W |
Thanks for the reminder, Belvica! My post could have been clearer. He "stepped out of the doorway" meaning he stepped to the side so as not to be in the doorway anymore. NOT that he stepped outside by going through the doorway. So he is where I meant him to be on the map. He saw a man get dropped by a previously invisible archer. He's not about to go rushing outside.
Belvica enters the house, finding many objects but no people.
Will post full room description later. Main thing is no enemies right now.
Caltrop attack! - vs. AC with no armor, shield, or deflection bonuses, but +2 for having shoes!: 1d20 ⇒ 17
Tristan treads heavily on a caltrop and it pierces his think boot and draws a drop of blood!
Take 1 damage, move at half speed. Status can be healed by DC 15 Heal check or magical healing.
Heccan identifies the spells as copycat and call lightning. He will need to move just north of Tristan to see inside to the enemy.
Results of Tristan's sword attack when I can look up AC at home!
Tristan Zanderholm |
With the copycat rules, its not a hit on the caster regardless of AC, it likely disperses the copycat however with a near miss.
GM Derek W |
Cool, I forgot about the near miss rules!
Tristan's blow destroys the illusory image!
Heccan waits for his chance...
The second man in the room is armed like the gladiator-types from before. He swings shotel and cestus at Tristan!
Shotel: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Cestus: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Confirm Shotel?: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
One blow connects!
Belvica sees the following in the room she entered:
A low fire and the smell of simmering stew pushes back the pervading scent of must in this room, though it is otherwise in as poor shape as the rest of the house. Beyond the hearth and food preparation area, the room is devoid of other furnishings besides cots and a few shared footlockers, giving it a crude barracks air. The double doors to the east open onto the boardwalk, and the north door once opened to a since-collapsed wing of the building.
Round Two:

Heccan Abraxi |
Heccan darts behind Tristan and once again calls forth his dwindling reserves of arcane power, extending his hands and whispering a very sinister sounding incantation as he unleashes two globes of deep indigo colored force at the opposing caster. Heccan shouts a warning to his fellow agents. Get to that pint sized caster! He is trying to bring lightning, and likely the very skies, down upon us!
MM DMG: 1d4 + 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + (1) + 2 = 7
GM Derek W |
Xavian and Heccan both make marks on the enemy, but cannot bring them down!
The man finishes calling lightning, which slams into Tristan!
Damage, DC 16 Reflex Save for half: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 6) = 16
He then takes a 5' step back.
Belvica tries to sneak up on him.
Stealth: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
He fails to notice the ranger as she creeps up, but her axe clangs harmlessly off the back of his cuirass (breastplate with back).
Sorry, had to do a separate Stealth check to represent you moving again from a position with no shadows or cover to hide you. You first check covered moving into the house. Anyway, it was a good thought! This guy's AC is all armor and shield, though, so high flatfooted AC.
Tristan is up!
Tristan Zanderholm |
DC 16 Reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Tristan takes a bolt of lightening which leaves him still smoking. "Iomedae, give me the strength to stand and fight." he cries, laying hands on himself, healing his wounded and burnt body.
After the recharge, he brings his longsword to bear on the sailor in front of him once again.
Lay on Hands: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 3) = 8
longsword, PA: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Dmg, PA: 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
Targeting self for lay on hands is a swift action, so attack is standard. If the target drops will move as indicated on the map into flanking with Belvica. If orange is still up then stand still.
HP 17/36
GM Derek W |
Tristan recovers from the lightning strike in good fashion, closing some of his wounds with the light of the Inheritor, then slashing into the last guard, dispatching him with aplomb!
Round 3:
Heccan
Xavian
Deremin
Belvica
Tristan
Heccan Abraxi |
Heccan, his reserves of power dwindling, calls forth the remains of it. His voice grows cold and alien as he launches two more red indigo force missiles at the halfling caster.
DMG MM: 1d4 + 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + (1) + 2 = 4
Xavian Slingblade |
Xavian drops his bow, drawing a blade as he moves to help his friends take down the last enemy!
Rapier: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17 for Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4
GM Derek W |
He did indeed...
Caltrops Attack!: 1d20 ⇒ 2
Heccan missiles slam into the priest This one is a human man. Definitely not the halfling druid from before.
Xavian skirts Belvica's caltrops, but his sword is turned away by the cleric's shield.
The man then takes a stab with his rapier!
1 = Tristan
2 = Xavian
3 = Belvica
1d3 ⇒ 1
The blow is directed at Tristan.
Attack!: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
The brave warrior's armor turns the blade aside!
The team is up! Go, fight, win!
Tristan Zanderholm |
Tristan turns his holy blade on the caster now, seeing a tactical advantage with the positioning of Belvica behind the man, he presses the attack firmly. "Fall, as all enemies of the true faith will eventually!" cries the battle-mad warrior of Iomedae.
Tristan Longsword, PA, flanking: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 8 + 2 = 18
Dmg, PA: 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
Xavian Slingblade |
Xavian will call to Tristan to shift to his right so that Xavian might be able to take advantage of the flanking!
Rapier: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 6 + 2 = 17 for Damage: 1d4 + 2d6 ⇒ (2) + (4, 3) = 9
Heccan Abraxi |
Drawing on his inner well of reserve power, Heccan throws his right hand out releasing a icy blue line of cold at the HUMAN priest. Sorry about that, not sure why I was thinking he was the half pint.
Ray O Frost: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (19) + 2 - 4 = 17Heccan subtracted 4 for firing into melee.
dmg: 1d3 ⇒ 1
GM Derek W |
Belvica lands a wicked blow, but Tristan and Xavian's strikes are both blocked by the man's shield. Heccan's spell leaves a mark, but not enough to prevent the priest from calling down a second bolt of lightning, this time on Belvica! He then steps away from Tristan and Xavian.
Damage, Reflex DC 16 for half: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 5) = 15
He already cast call lightning, he can now call a bolt each round as a standard action. I think it doesn't provoke, since the casting is done.
Apologies for the slow pace. My schedule has just been much, much busier than I anticipated at the outset.
Back to you guys!
Belvica Insnare'ba |
Reflex 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 5 + 2 = 16 vs Spells and Spell like abilities
Belvica swings her magical war axe, rangers focus, flanking 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 8 + 2 + 2 = 29
hits for 1d10 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 5 + 2 = 16
"Mesa no likesadem blitzers...!!!!"
GM Derek W |
Belvica's blow sends the man to the floor, unconscious due to loss of blood!
Out of combat!
Heccan Abraxi |
Wow! Mega ninja. Your kung fu is excellent.
Heccan, sensing he can do little to actually damage the armored priest, tries a new tactic. He moves into the room and surveys the situation. Upon seeing the party's tactical positions, he speaks loudly to his fellow Pathfinders. Pathfinders! Use our numbers. Surround this brigand! He then sets his sights upon the armored storm caller. Lay down your arms villain! You cannot win this fight. Give up while you are able lest my fellows send you to your patron.
As Heccan finishes his verbal assault he quirks a brow as the armored priest keels over from Belvica's vicious attack. Heccan quirks a brow and looks disdainfully at the fallen enemy. Well, my father always said I had horrible timing. To be fair, Belvica would have probably killed you anyway, but at least it was worth a try.
Heccan looks about the pirate HQ and speaks to the party. Well, I am fairly certain we still must figure out who these buccaneers are and why they are targeting our ships. I am sure someone is pointing them at us. I suggest we take a careful approach and search this base. Xavian, perhaps you could take a look, in a very subtle manner, to see if we have any other persons Tristan can take holy vengeance upon.
Intimidate: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Success: If you are successful, the target is shaken for one round. This duration increases by 1 round for every 5 by which you beat the DC. You can only threaten an opponent this way if it is within 30 feet and can clearly see and hear you. Using demoralize on the same creature only extends the duration; it does not create a stronger fear condition.
Fail: The opponent is not shaken.
Action Demoralizing an opponent is a standard action.
A shaken character takes a –2 penalty on attack rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks. Shaken is a less severe state of fear than frightened or panicked.
GM Derek W |
Sorry for the confusion! Belvica's attacks were lethal, but he is in negative hit points (-3 to be exact). Not negative equal to or greater than his CON score, so not dead-dead. My post about ninja'ing was directed at Heccan. I think Heccan's actions would only apply if the bad guys was still standing. So anyway, you have three pirates unconscious and bleeding out. Might be worth it to question the leader, but it's your call there.
Xavian Slingblade |
Xavian will do as suggested and takes a sneaky look about the place, looking for more enemies in the process.
Heccan Abraxi |
Heccan eyes the now bleeding out priest. He turns to Tristan. I hate to say it, but I think this man has the answers we seek. I am confident in my ability to extract the information, one way or another, but less confident in may ability to keep him alive until I can speak to this brigand. Please, help me pry him from that armor, stem his wounds and bind the man. I think we need to have a frank conversation. He quirks his eye brow and awaits Tristan's response.
Tristan Zanderholm |
Tristan gathers his allies together over the wounded man and prays fervently for Iomedae's healing touch that will keep her faithful soldiers in the fight. He also prays for her to reach into the heart of this pirate, and turn his actinos from evil to good should he rouse from his current mortal wound.
"Question him, Heccan, but do not torture or slay him. As a prisoner, he is to be treated with honor, as the Acts declaim."
He also uses his Wand of CLW on himself and any who request more aid from Iomedae.
Channel Positive to heal: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 6) = 7
CLW wand: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
CLW wand: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Tristan is back to full HP after this healing interlude. LMK if you need a wand tap.
Belvica Insnare'ba |
Belvica before Tristan channels energy undoes the cleric's armor and ties his hands hands and also his feet with rope in such a way that she can unbind the feet without untying the hands.
"Mesa no mp desa ma acts. buts deser main isa bunnded." says Belvica.
Heccan Abraxi |
Heccan smiles wickedly as his fellow agents prepare the captive priest for questioning. Once secured, Heccan makes his way to the prisoner. He stops to speak to Tristan before speaking to the pirate Now Tristan, have you ever known me to be a violent man? Surely you do not think I would stoop to such brutal tactics. Not when I have so many other skills to choose from. Now please, do not interfere. Your revered Inheritor has already caused enough trouble on this mission, I, respectfully of course, request she stays her holy hand. If only to allow me to get the information we need. So, if you could, please do your very best to look menacing. And you... Heccan shifts his gaze to Belvica you just keep looking as you are, Belvica my dear. Menacing as always.
Heccan bends on his haunches to inspect the prisoner. Once he is certain he is awake, he lays his hands on the man allowing the power of the pit, seeming always wanting to escape into this plane, to seep from his touch. Infernal dark energies invade the man, causing him to experience the corrupting power of the 9 hells. Heccan's eyes flutter momentarily as the burden of keeping the force from the infernal plane at bay eases if just for the moment. Once the man is aware of Heccan's presence, he speaks to the man. My time is short, so I will be blunt. Normally I would point out the desperate situation you now find yourself, and that it is only by my mercy that the two dogs behind you nodding to Tristan and Belvica are not feasting on your bones as we speak. I would, normally, point out that you have made perhaps the most powerful and far reaching organization on Avistan your mortal enemy and that the terror you are experiencing is just a very small taste of what I could unleash upon you. If I choose. Heccan eyes the man very sternly, not flashing the expected grin, but rather showing the priest a cold, dispassionate glare. He continues.
As I have not the time, nor do you. Tell me your secrets, quickly. I know not your patron, be it Gyronna or Gozreh, but you are now beyond their aid. Where are your masters? Who is targeting the Pathfinders? Where is the rest of your band? Speak and leave out nothing. Trust me when I say the consequences of falsity will be quite severe. Heccan stares at the man and awaits his response.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (19) + 15 = 34
GM Derek W |
"My name's Deremin. And it's Besmara I favor, thank you very much. We've been working these waters for a few months. A little while back I got a valuable patron in Tymon interested in my operation. Until then, we'd strike at whatever ships struck our fancy. She wanted us to focus on Pathfinder boats. The coin was too good to pass us, and too good to ask further questions. Her name is Helkit Silverbane. Anyway, if you promise not to kill me, I'll tell you where I hid my logbooks. Might be useful as evidence, if you care about that sort of thing."
In the meantime, Xavian searches the rest of the house and discovers no other enemies.
Heccan Abraxi |
Heccan now allows a smirk to cross his lips. Not a full fledged grin, but the beginning of one. He tilts his head and regards the priest of Besmara. Ah, the pirate queen. Well, I guess I should have figured on that myself. So, you enter the bargain. A wise choice. Now let us set the table. Let's see, what do you have to bargain with? Ah yes, your life. Not nothing I suppose, but not all too valuable. At least not to me. Now then Heccan tilts his head to the side in a very theatrical gesture what to I have to bargain with? Let me think..ah yes, I have it. He fixes his stare on the captive priest everything else. I think I will have those journals AND whatever else you have here, including what ill-gotten goods you have secreted here. Tell me where the journals are, and your goods, and we that MAY be enough to spare your wretched hide. He stares at the man and awaits his response.
