If you close that last square bracket, it will automatically roll, and look like this: Profession (Haberdasher): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20

All of this will become pretty clear once we start playing, but I'm happy to answer any other PbP questions you might have, as is Kate.

Thanks for including me! Been meaning to try PbP for a while and haven't quite had the chance.

I'll be making a skald, and should be able to stat them up within the next day or so!

Hey all, if I play a character in a php, I can't play them in society play, right? How long do we think this pbp will take? One month? That will help me decide who to play.

Grand Lodge

Rusthenge || Spell Templates | Starship Roles | ◆◇↺

The last one I ran (Consortium Compact) took almost exactly a month. It depends on how frequently everyone posts. I would love to get it done before the PbP special starts in early October (I'm running a table).

That brings up another question: My usual expectation is one post/day from each player during the week and one or two per weekend (certainly feel free to post more, but that's a target). Does that sound ok? It's totally fair to have days where you're out of town, or otherwise not able to post. It's nice to post bot instructions in that case, telling us what your character would do, especially if that happens in the middle of combat.

Grand Lodge

Rusthenge || Spell Templates | Starship Roles | ◆◇↺

And to answer your question, yes, if your character is in a PbP game, you can't play them F2F. You can, however, apply F2F GM credits to them during that time. You hold them until the PbP game is over, then they apply.

2) Please fill in your initiative and perception in the code block on the Maps & Handouts slide (also linked at the top of the page). I've put an example of what it should look like. These are so I can copy and past a whole block to roll initiative/perception checks (generally the GM will roll all initiatives in PbP, and some perception checks).

Hello Everyone!,

At last… my new character is set up.

Overall, everything sounds great; I would love to aim for completing the scenario in a month's time. I will be traveling for a day or two this month, but should still be able to post. Typically I can post more than once per day otherwise.

My thrush familiar, Irp, may be doing lots of talking.

I'll post an intro in the game thread this afternoon — setting my first PBP character up took a bit longer than I thought it would. Please let me know if you need anything else, Dennis.

This is going to be fun!

Yeah, I like when players bring lots of personality to their posts. I suspect they will get shorter if/when we move into combat, but enjoy it when you can. Those of you I've played with before have always been some of my favorite role-players, and that's something I am looking forward to with this group.

Hey, can I ask what people's inspiration was for their characters? We've got a pretty interesting group and I'm always curious about why players make the characters they do. Like, why that particular combination of race, class, whatever?

Many PFS players around here play characters who have a goofy buddy comedy routine; I thought I'd try it.

Also, I wanted to play a mechanically simple hard-hitting melee character who can dump int and still be fun to roleplay out of combat. (I think the "optimized" Eldritch Guardian uses its familiar as a combat buddy instead of as a knowledge repo, but this seems more fun to me). Also the idea of the familiar being a figment of Ibb's own mind is interesting; maybe he has some repressed genius locked away somewhere, waiting to be tapped.

What about you, Doug?

Yeah, because it's SO FUN!

I've always liked playing DEX/CHA heroes, so rogues have always been my favorite class. I think there's something about playing high risk/high reward characters that appeals to me. Get in, get out, hopefully without a scratch. I like some narrative tension at the gaming table I guess. (Although you can certainly argue that rogues are high risk, low reward ;p) A magical rogue is something I've wanted to play for a long time, so when I read the Eldritch Scoundrel archetype I tucked it away for the future. (I've already got 2 rogues and a ninja going, as well as a swashbuckler...) Then I got this Spellslinger boon and I started poking around at possible builds. I don't normally play casters, at least not full casters, but something about the theme inspired me, this idea of someone tricking out their gun all magically. The basic advice was to take one level wizard and then switch to a different spell casting class. Immediately I thought of attaching it to that caster rogue. The rest of the details just kind of fell together.

I think we should put together a party where all the characters have the word Eldritch in their archtype!

I feel the same way, but about bards. I feel like I am going to end up having 10 different bard characters at some point.

I really want to make a rogue-type character… I always get really into concepts for archetypes like the false medium and charlatan — more intrigue than PFS smashing.
