The party, victorious over a difficult foe, takes a moment to admire their effectiveness. Tarek gets to work quickly, freeing the remaining captives and preparing them for their escape. Tarek and Sylorin can tell the dwarves are in bad shape and are in desperate need of care, preferably at a healing temple or other complex. Kat does a quick table dance, then joins Eloriand in searching the newly uncovered room. A rank and fetid stench fills this large, unlit, and irregularly shaped chamber. The room is otherwise bare and holds nothing of interest. The scouts discover another secret door at the other end of the room.

Havelock:
Though Havelock's arcane knowledge is still very raw, he surmises that the blood and hair samples were likely intended to be used as spell components for a spell that would target the person whose samples were represented. The spell could be as simple as a scrying spell or something much more sinister.

Tarek speaks to Sylorin Sylorin, if we gather all that are injured could you unleash positive energy to heal the emissaries? I would if those powers were still available to me. It may be wise to save our spells when there are no other options. I was unable to fully heal Eloriand and if others are injured then they could benefit as well, as long as they are not more than 30 feet away.

Tarek will take the last dwarf to where the other two are standing and wait for Sylorin's reply.

Tarek then speaks to the dwarves Are you aware of any other ways that the Ramirans come and go? Do you remember being dropped down a trap door or were you brought in by other means? Tarek allows for them to gather their wits and enjoy their freedom for a moment before continuing How many Razmirans can we expect to encounter down here?

Since El is with Kat, I am not sure he heard the call for a group healing session

El is hanging with Kat checking out the new secret door.

Seeing that the captives are in bad shape and were clearly badly treated, Syolrin gathers them, and the rest of the party, and allows the divine power of Shelyn to pour from him, acting as a healing balm and bringing the captives some comfort but still leaving them badly injured.

Rakuska smacks parched lips and attempts to answer Kat. "I...I cannot be certain. When we were brought here, they made us disrobe in one of the rooms out there. We have been fairly isolated since then. That fiend Ahendile would take us out separately to question us...other than that, all I remember is that awful scraping, like wet cloth on stone...and a feeling of absolute dread...[/b] Rakuska coughs and his head lolls a bit as even minor activity like talking is clearly a struggle for this ailing dwarf.

Tarek escorts the dwarf party to the crates in the eastern room and helps them quickly recover their clothing.

Kat and Eloriand explore the area through the trap door. They find the secret door locked but Kat is able to work it free. In the room beyond, a number of wooden chairs and other furniture are stacked in this large room, as well as a few casks. A door lies to the west, while a corridor heads southward. A quick peek of the casks revel mead and ale. Kat explores the corridor south, while Eloriand stands watch. She comes upon an untidy room. A wooden ladder in the southeast corner descends from above into this untidy chamber. Some pieces of broken furniture lie scattered across the floor, along with some soiled clothing. An oaken door is to the west and a corridor leads north. Kat examines the clothing and she is very confident that the dirty and torn clothing belongs to Rakuska and her entourage.

It may very well lead to under the stables, we were not able to search inside the main floor of the building, nor have we run into the stable hand since he led you inside the inn.

While exploring the area around the second trap door the red thinks of something and double checks the compass on her Wayfinder. She then heads to where Izzy and the rest are, fully intent on returning to scout the area above the second trap door as she had planned.

You know, theoretically speaking, the area where the second trap door leads to should no longer be within the Inn's compound. The bath room that we entered through was on the Southwest corner, El and I explored the area around the Inn with the only parts we did not check out were the inside of the stable and the inside of the Inn.

However, when we came to the bath room it looked like that was the very South of the Inn. The other trap door is further South as well as East and therefore could quite possibly lead to some place out of the Inn's compound.

This could provide us with a mixed bag. On one had, it may give us a way to move our dwarven friends out of here without having to tromp through the Inn and possibly waking up the Innkeeper. On the other hand, it could lead to where the who was doing the questioning is staying. Not to mention that we have lost track of where that stable hand is.

I am going to scout it out, use this time to try and administer some more first aid. And keep an ear out in case an alarm is raised on the off chance that someone goes into the bath room while we are down here.

Rolls previously made.

I hand over my water skin to the dwarves for consumption and consider Kat's words.

Kat, don't go to far. IF what you say is true about the location of that second trap door, that may be a whole set of variables that we may not wan't to contend with. We seem to still have surprise and the initiative in our favor and it might be best to get out of here as quickly as possible. I mad an assuption that the second trap was somewhere on the property boundary...but if that is not the case...

I look at dwarf, hoping that their rich constitutions and resilience comes true. My mind goes through possible scenarios before I speak again.

We need to get somebody up that ladder...Izzy, can you pop your head up and take a look...and if all clear, we need one of us to pull security up there. If we are compromised at the inn, we will have to fight our way out, or take the other trap door, which our Razzy ma Taz friends may not know we know anything about.

To play devil's advocate on this one, I would be wary of going back into the inn unless we are absolutely sure there is no other way out. I am certain Addas did not totally believe our story and if she and her sisters are part of this then they may have a trap waiting for us. It would be very tight quarters for us to escape the inn. If we made it to the courtyard then there is only one exit through the main gate. I don't think the emissaries would survive such a battle. The trap door that Kat found could be a worse situation, but I think it would be wise to investigate it before we make a decision.

If Tarek feels that the potion would benefit the dwarves then he will administer it to the dwarf in most need.

are the dwarves suffering from dehydration and malnourishment more than physical injury? If time is the only thing that will aid their recovery then he will give the potion back to Kat and explain their situation

The Exchange

Female Elf Rogue (Unchained) / 3

Kat shakes her head after Tarek speaks, There is a... now unlocked... back gate, but it is further away from the bath room than the main gate and either way we go out of the door that leads into the courtyard is fully exposed. Unless we can find windows in which to shove everybody through, but that would take a lot of time and may cause more noise because of the injured.

She then turns to Havelockk, Is it possible to detect magic through solid objects, such as the trap door? If so, would you mind seeing if I'll be running into anything magical just by opening the door? If not, let's hope my luck holds. Also, the lights in the room with the second trap door should be at least temporarily snuffed when I go up to scout.

The party provides Rakuska with much needed water and Tarek indeed aids him further with more magical healing. The divine aid clearly makes her fell better, but she is still staggered and her companions are still in dire need of more stable care.

Kat and Elorian further search the area and do in fact determine that the trap door likely leads to the stable. Kat examines the trap door and, by placing a little gentle pressure, determines that there is trap of some sort rigged to the door. Kat does a though job of attempting to find a way to bypass it, but it is unable to do so. She surmises that the trap is probably rigged and set from the other side of the trap door and would only be able to disable it from the other side.

The maps got a little inverted from my extraction process. The door on the south west should align with the stable.

Tarek once again examines the rescued dwarves and believes their time to be running short and that they should make their way from this place forthwith.

Definitely. Either Izzy or myself should go to disable the trap and you should go as well since that horse may very well still be highly agitated.

Kat, I do not have studied up the cantrip that detects magic, however, I do have the ability to push, pull or carry small objects through a cantrip as well as produce sound. I could always cast that minor spell and push up on the trap and if it sets something off, nobody gets hurt. Course if its hook to an alarm bell, or it disturbs the horses on the pens, then any chance of surprise we have is gone.

Since both doors lead to the compound, I say we go up the way we came. We know the Inn, and we know a way out of it...I don't have a good feel for the stable.

At least if we get into a fight at the Inn, we know the ground and we know which way, or ways to go to get the hell out.

If one of your more silent and sneaky types checks out the way we came in... we will know quickly which is the preferred route. I say we stand fast until we know if our old route is safe.

neither is pleasant, but I don't want to go into a fight blind unless I have too.

The Exchange

Female Elf Rogue (Unchained) / 3

The red does her best to remember and relay the layout of the stable as she was able to see it from her loft vantage.

Personally I think we would have a better chance through the stable if it came to a fight. It is more open and less chance of being bottle necked in a doorway or hallway. The layout is fairly simple and open with an attached forge as well as a simple room where I would presume the stable hand sleeps.

Either way, we have to go through the Inn to reach the stable in order to untrap... the trapped trap door... she says the last bit in a complete monotone deadpan.

There was a horse that was agitated in the stable before we regrouped, so El should go along to calm it down in case it is still upset.

One approach may be to have Izzy or one of our brawlers head up with El and a sneak and distract the stable hand if he shows up again as you guys have a viable reason to be going in and out of the Inn; so long as you don't appear to cause trouble at least. Do any of our casters have a sleep spell ready? That could be used to keep the stable hand quiet, too.

Sylorin, do you have any spells that could aid us? Can you detect magic or have any spells to aid our in our stealthy return to the Abacus?

I am in agreement with Kat on this one. If the trap can be disabled then I think it is best to exit through the stables. The bath room is not very large and then we need to file down a narrow hallway before we get to the door. I believe each of the emissaries will need aid in getting back to the Abacus. This means that 3 of us will be out of the fight should we encounter any opposition. I think the stables will provide a better cover for escape.

Isador looks around the company before reaching into a bag to produce 3 glass vials. He hands two of the potions to Tarek.

The yellow colored on is a standard healing potion which might be needed for our exit but I will let you decide if it is needed right now. He glaces towards the still unsteady dwarves.

The red colored one is a potion of endurance which might have be needed by our dwarven charges or possibly Caoilte if it comes to combat. Again, I leave the choice to administer them to your discretion.

Looking back to Kat and then Eloriand

I am sure that I can get back to the stables and disarm the trap. Is that the choice then? I have a potion of invisibility which should guarantee safe passage back to the stables unnoticed but will we have a clear path back to the Abacus from there?

Kat, did you say there was a back gate that is unlocked? Would it be safer to take that exit than the front gate? I guess everything really depends on what we see from the stables. If it is needed, I can move to the center of the courtyard and cast obscuring mist from the scroll I have. The spell will create a mist with a 20 foot radius from where I stand, upon casting, and be about 20 feet high. It should be thick enough to provide almost total concealment from anyone on the other side of the mist. It should persist for about a minute after casting before it begins to dissipate. I think that should give us enough time to escape. If it comes down to it, Eloriand could take a horse and one of the dwarves with him to warn the Abacus to be ready for departure.

Tarek nods in understanding at Sylorin's statement. I will leave it to you to cast the spell if it becomes necessary. I will save my scroll and only use it if you are unable to react in time.

Tarek then looks to Havelockk The scroll of silent image I gave you may also help create a diversion if needed. If you plan on using it and need my help to create any sounds, just let me know.

I think we have set all our options on the table. The dwarves are weary and the sooner we get out of here the better

Tarek then goes over all that was discussed

I believe the plan is for Isador to sneak to the stables and use his potion if necessary. There was mention of Eloriand going with him, but I do not know if he has the means to make himself unseen. The rest of us will gather at the door beneath the stables and wait for his signal. It seems that the back gate is questionable as a means of escape so we should focus on the front gate as our way out. If we need a diversion then Havelockk could create an image of something terrifying, like Caoilte hip thrusting with his spiked helm. If we are spotted then Sylorin could use obscuring mist to provide a screen of cover while we escape. If the dwarves are not strong enough to walk, perhaps Eloriand could steal, I mean "borrow", a horse and lead the dwarves to safety.

Tarek then looks to his companions Does that cover what we discussed? If anyone has additional thoughts then make it clear so we can be sure to cover as many variables as possible.

Tarek's gaze then passes over each of the emissaries and gives them a reassuring smile We will get you to safety and in the company of your kin soon enough. If you can muster the strength then we should begin walking over to the trap door

The Exchange

Female Elf Rogue (Unchained) / 3

El should be able to be able to sneak to the stable even without an invisibility potion and I do recommend him going along if he is willing. That horse was pretty agitated so there is a probability that the trap door leads to its stall or close enough to it spook it. Though it could have been spooked from those fleshy mounds we encountered earlier, we will not know until we get people into the stable. Out of all of us, El is the best chance we have of calming the horse and keeping it from being spooked further when we all come crawling out of the floor.

Eloriand absorbs all of the discussion. I am still willing to accompany any of you to the stable. With Isador it is then. Let us make haste.

Tarek, as well as other party members, offer additional magical healing to the freed dwarves, but Rakuska refuses the aid for him and his companions. Rakuska is very grateful, but insists that the best thing for everyone is to leave this place immediately and believes that the party's healing magics should be saved in case of trouble on the way out of the prison.

The rest of the party contemplates their escape. The dwarven companions condition will not improve and they urge the party to proceed with the extradition.

Ok folks, Looks like you are ready to make way wiht the excape. I need everyone to post their actions. Please tell me where you are exiting the cellar and what actions you take once you are back in the Inn. I will resolve everyone's actions around the same time tomorrow, so you may change your actions based on other players actions if you desire.

Since Izzy's going to undo the trapped trap door in the stable she will watch their flank in case someone comes down the trap door in the bathroom. She will also exit out of the underground last unless the group decides she should go sooner.

Her rolls should have already been made.

I am guessing that means Tarek did not cast his last 2 healing spells, Kat keeps her potion of healing and Isador keeps the two potions he gave Tarek?

Tarek aids Rakuska in standing and escorts her towards the trap door under the stable.

I will move Tarek's and Rakuska's token in the morning unless she is able to get around on her own

Seems like we got a plan...I will use the silent image as needed and I can certainly use more direct arcane methods should it be required...time is ticking and I think we need to get going.

Eloriand is going back the way they all came in to the inn with Isador and making his way back to the stable to find the trap door. In his minds eye, he should have some idea where to look based on the location of Isador's bathroom and the direction the underground facilities was laid out. Using the perception to avoid any surprises and using the stealth to move quietly and unseen as possible. Weapon's NOT drawn.

Isador nods in agreement but looks a bit skeptical.

I am concerned that we may be walking into an ambush. It would not make sense to have the guardians attack without sending some sort of warning or alarm to their master.

I think that I should use the invisibility potion before exiting back into the washroom. I will drop a strip of cloth back down here to signal the all clear. If they are waiting in ambush, I will drop a coin down to sound the alarm before making my way to the stable and clear the doorway there. I assume if they are waiting for us, it is so they can attack us one by one as we exit.

After drinking the potion of invisibility, Isador will quickly scale the ladder back into the washroom. If it is clear, he will signal Eloraind to ascend the ladder and they will make for the stables.

Actions:

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11 not sure if needed due to potion of invisibility
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17 if needed

The party gathers under the trap door at the south end of the cellar prison carefully leading the injured dwarfs with them. Kat, Eloriand and Isador travel back to the groups original entry point. Isador quaffs his potion of invisibility and heads up the ladder back to the bathing room...

Yes, Rakuska refused to let the party expend any more healing resources on them.

Isador drops the cut piece of cloth back down the ladder well to indicate that the room is clear.

Once Eloriand has made it to the top, Isador will tap him on the shoulder and quickly make their way to the door leading to the stables.

Once they are outside of the inn but before they enter the stable, Isador will whisper to Eloriand that he should go first and to calm the agitated horse. Isador will follow behind and attempt to disable the trap protecting the trap door to the rest of the party.

how long will the effects of the potion last?
