Well...if you ask me...I think the lady means well but might be taking a few too many sips out of the old bottle... and that large supply cache concerns me....I would recommend having other folks routinely check up on her...she may have a condition that we don't know about

The noble Ollysta Zadrian listens carefully to the report of the party. When all the information is relayed, she shakes her head solemnly. Thank you agents. While my heart is glad that the children are well, some of what you observed does cause me some concern. I will have to investigate the mater a little further. She smiles warmly to the party May Sarenrae light your way. Be well agents.

Sticking to their plan, the party next makes their way to the estate of Master Salhar, noble representative of the state of Osirion. They are met at the large wrought iron gate of the estate by a guard. He informs the group that they have been expected and are led into the extravagant complex. A servant leads them down well decorated hallways and past expansive rooms and explains that the master is away on Council business but has left a most trusted advisor to discuss any business they may have with Master Salhar. The party arrives at a simple study at the end of a long hallway. In the study, a tan-skinned old man sits behind a desk flipping through pages in a large tome. Scraps of paper jut from the book marking over two dozen different places. As the group approaches the open door, the wise sage silently gestures them into the study with one thin hand, while closing the tome with the other after finishing what he was reading. Once everyone is inside, the man addresses the group.

Good day to you, Pathfinders. I am Amenopheus, the Sapphire Sage, advisor to Master Salhar. I understand you were sent here to discuss archaeological permissions. Knowing this was coming, I spoke with Master Salhar at length on the subject and have this to say.

Since Osirion was reopened to exploration a decade ago, adventurers, historians, and treasure-seekers flock to my country by the hundreds, perhaps thousands. While most families with ancestral burial vaults maintain guards and keep their sites out of the hands of casual thieves, not all families have the wealth or power to restrict everyone, and as we all know, not every defense is perfectly secure. Unscrupulous tomb robbers and maligned merchant organizations cause Osirion to bleed relics into the Inner Sea—something the descendents of Ancient Osirion cannot afford. We Osiriani have thousands of years of rich history coursing through our veins, and while that power has been out of focus in recent years, we are content to wait, knowing our enemies will wear themselves down. As they fall into arrogance, folly, or greed, we wait for our return to power, knowing we bear the riches of our ancestors at our feet.

Master Salhar remains impressed by the Pathfinder Society, orating in their favor a handful of times in front of Absalom’s Grand Council, in fact. Due to previous relationships between him and the Society, Master Salhar has agreed to grant permission to the Pathfinder Society to explore his family’s vaults below Sothis. The only thing he requires is that you retrieve the map of the vaults from his own vault here. The servant will lead you to the basement and show you the room.

The Sapphire Sage’s eyes twinkle as he smirks knowingly, then he turns back to reading his book as though he had never been disturbed. Shortly, a servant brings the group back through the spacious estate, leading them down sturdy stone steps into the cool basement. Down a hallway, after a couple turns, the party ends up at a plain wooden door. The servant opens the door, gesturing to the room with a bow, and waits silently.

Easy is so boring though... She gives an impish grin to her comrades before tilting her head towards the silent servant. Any idea what's beyond here?

The red will wait for the reply, and try to see if they hold any sort of nervousness for their task, before turning back to examine the door. She laces her fingers together and turns the backs of her hands towards her chest then pushes forward to her full extent, cracking her knuckles in an effort to limber her hands. Time to get to work, eh boys?

Are the vaults lit with torches or are any placed in sconces along the wall?

This should prove interesting. Whenever someone asks for us to retrieve something from their own home, I don't expect it to be a safe and easy task. I guess we should decide what order we take while walking these halls. I am guessing with Kat taking the lead that Isador and Eloriand will follow while the remainder of us fall behind?

A spatha is a specific type of longsword dating back to the Roman era primarily used by mounted troops and some auxiliary infantry units over the shorter gladius. The guard, grip and pommel were normally made of boxwood, which is so dense it sinks in water with a rhomboidal shaped blade that had parallel edges that tapered slightly to a diamond shaped point.

Caoilte...I will have mine activated...I dont use a shield much these days...sort of mucks up casting spells.

The servant remains silent to Kat's inquiry and merely remains bowed. The party gets ready and enters the chamber.

A plain stone room contains three chests: a copper-banded chest of smooth, dark wood; a red lacquered chest; and what looks to be a cube of solid steel. Behind the chests sits a low table holding a clear glass jar half full of liquid and a covered wicker basket.

Once the party is wholly inside the room, the servant shuts the chamber door and locks it. A message is written on the back of the door:

Within these cases lies your quest and your way out.

Oh for the love of it all!! Really, they had to lock us in a room. Say, 10 gold that the wicker basket contains a asp or other nasty creature. Now on a more serious note, by guess is that no matter what we do we cannot beat that door down or pick the lock.

I rub my chin and think.

well lets all take a look around the room...see if anything stands out and then focus on the three boxes, the liquid in the jar and the wicker basket thing. Might be best if our more observant scout types take a good close inspection before any of us caster or knuckle dragges decide to open anything or more anything. Just saying

With that I look to each of my compatriots and smile and chuckle at potentially the small pile of cac we have just landed in.

Oh, I hope nobody has to tinkle anytime soon or worse, cause I think in a confined space like this, it might be a bit awkward and stinky.

I leave the life of a simple mercenary and joined the Pathfinders. 5 boxes and a piece of paper is what we're about. Obviously the wicker basket has all the answers to life's problems. The dark wood chest holds cigars, the jar......c'mon, we know the jar has whiskey, the red lacquer chest has some womanly stuff in it........for Izzy. And the iron cube is just there to make us angry. Open the door fools, I've solved your riddle.

We came here for a map and something tells me it won't be as simple as opening a box or the servant would have retrieved it. I am certain we could find a way to get that door open even if we did not find a key. People in this city love their puzzles. What happened to using traps or a guard dog to protect your goods? I don't see an advantage to opening either of the containers first. I will defer to our scouts judgement on this one.

I am starting to think that everything created in Absalom was made by a relative of Rue Goldberg

Kat and Isador go to work evaluating the objects contained in the room. They begin their examination by examining the first chest, a copper banded chest. They both stare at the otherwise normal looking chest to search for traps or other interesting information. Izzy quirks his head as he notices something unusual about the box. With a smirk, he smoothly moves his hand in a wave, sending it right through the chest, an illusion! The scouts shrug and move to the next chest.

The scouts move on to the next chest, a much more unusual one. This smooth, red lacquered chest looks devious. The solid metal plate surrounding the gaping keyhole pulses with glowing amber runes. Kat is reasonably sure the chest is not trapped, but can find now way to open it without some sort of key.

The scouts then turn their attention to the third chest. This steel cube has only the faintest crack where its lid meets the base, and would be completely featureless save for its narrow keyhole. Kat and Isador both notice that this chest is indeed trapped! They notice the telltale signs of a trap tied to the locking mechanism. Unfortunately, neither of the scouts are able to figure a way to disarm the trap.

Frustrated but determined, the scouts move on to the wicker basket. Both scouts hover around the basket, looking for signs of mischief. As Izzy leans in to listen to the basket, he hears the sounds of something sliding against the wicker coming from inside the basket. There appears to be no trap tied to the loose lid of the basket.

The scouts complete their tour of the objects set before them and examine the glass jar. This gallon-sized clear glass jar is about half full with clear liquid. At the bottom of the vessel sits a jeweled
brass key. While the liquid at first glance appears to be water, Kat notices a tell tale alchemical swirl in the liquid and is very confident that the liquid is actually a very caustic corrosive agent.

Soylorin detects a faint aura of illusory magic on the red laquered chest and easily sees through the illusion of the copper band chest.

Tarek watches Kat and Isador examine the boxes and sees Isador pass his hand through one of them An illusion? How fascinating.

He watches as they focus their attention on the basket and glass jar.I hope there is nothing dangerous in that basket?

The item in the bottom of the jar seems to be a bit of a challenge to retrieve. Any suggestions?

Tarek examines the jar from a few feet away. His eyes slightly glaze over as he seems lost in thought.

As Tarek stares the glass jar, everyone in the room begins to hear whispering voices seemingly coming from every corner of the room. A swirling wind blows across everyone's faces for just a moment. The clas jar, jerks suddenly to one side as if someone or something knocked into it. The jar teeters then begins to settle, spinning on its rounded bottom until it swirls itself back into place. The jar jostles a few more time before the key slowly starts to rise out of the jar. The corrosive liquid parts as if an unseen hand is placed in it. The key lifts out of the liquid, then out of the jar and slowly glides toward Tarek. The key stops just a foot before Taerk's eyes. Tarek blinks his eyes a few times then seems to suddenly realize the key is right in front of him. Tarek reaches for the key but when he touches it, the key bounces off his hand and tumbles to the ground bouncing end over end before it comes to a rest at Caoilte's feet.

She then glances at Izzy with a raised eyebrow Or used as a means of removing the trap from the cube?

Her gaze then moves to the basket, Hey Eloriand? Do you have to be able to see animals in able to calm them down? There is probably something handy in that basket but it sounds like there is quite possibly a snake inside.

Yep, the old Asp in the basket trick...reminds me of a story I heard once once about a Osirian Princess and a Taldorian Prince who started a rather nasty civil war in Taldor, who deliberately reached into a basket containing a rather nasty Asp to have it bite her on her breast as a means of suicide. The Taldorian Prince fell on his sword, but unfortunately botched it up rather horridly and was still found barely alive by Taldorian forces where a centurion took pity on him and finished the job.

Oh, well sorry for that story, but El I would certainly be careful with that basket. I really do not want o see Caoilte have to suck the poison out of you hand or anyplace else it is a nasty critter with a sting or bite.

Caoilte, might I recommend rinsing that key with a bit of water to neutralize any corrosive effects that key might have. I have a water flask on me, should you need it.

That all said, should we now look to see which lock that key might open and see what we can do...once we know whats in the basket? I look at my friends and smile rubbing my chin before looking around the room a bit.

Tarek stands with a look of disbelief on his face as he watched the events unfold with the key. He slowly turns his gaze upon the other members of the party to gauge their reactions as well.

Does anyone else get a very strange feeling about the things that have happened today? It seems we have been followed to just about all of our destinations so far, there have been strange voices and sounds in more than one place and now keys go floating about through the air? I am starting to think I may be losing my mind, unless the rest of you have heard and noticed this as well?

Tarek rubs the back of his head with a serious look of confusion upon his face. The strangest thing is I was just thinking about how convenient it would be if someone could just make the key float up out of the jar.

Tareks's look quickly goes from frustration to mild agitation Have any of you felt any different since our encounter with the lizard in the tower? Ever since then, things just have not felt right. I have not been able to put my finger on it but something is off.

Please be very cautious with that basket. This whole day seems to be filled with odd events. Who knows what will happen if you look in that basket

With that said and after listening to Havelockk's statement, Tarek takes a few steps back from the containers and gives the area another look.

Examines the area surrounding the containers:
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12

Eloriand will hold off on disturbing the basket and will communicate this to his compatriots in an effort not to introduce too many variables in to their current situation.

My guess is one of the keys we need is in this basket, but lets solve one riddle at a time. We might also be able to use the corrosive liquid to dispatch the serpent in the basket if needs be.

Eloriand is waiting until the others have resolved the chest mystery before looking in the basket.

El, I have my never missing magic missiles that could easily zap anything in that basket. Assuming we have one snake and I have a visual of the creature, I can certainly zap it from across the room.

Tarek...I do not think so much since the blue lizard, which I would like to make into a pair of caligae...but I cannot help but feel that this whole series of missions have been one to where we are being observed, and certainly a key floating out of a jar with a hand size bubble around it could either be a easy cantrip...a unseen servant spell or we are not alone in this room as much as we think. if we had a bag of flour or something like that, we could certainly spread it out across the floor and chests and see if there was anyone else here or on the walls even...of course... looking up at the ceiling might be a little awkward.

El, I think you are correct...Caolite...does the key fit any of the boxes...if not...I think we find a way to uncover what is in the basket...you can use my pilum El....the 18 inch untemered iron shaft on the wooden pole should allow you to pop and open the basket up without putting yourself at risk and I can be ready to launch a magic missle if need be.

I offer the pilum to El

or anyone else for that matter...I would do it myself, but a pissed off viper slinking around the room might be hard to hit, and why go to the trouble when you got a caster like me.

Havelock and the rest of the party try to piece together any clues as to which lock the key fits. Havelock can tell the key looks as if it may fit any of the locks of the boxes. Other than that, there is nothing in the room to indicate the keys purpose.

Let me just go ahead and pick this up. Caoilte says while reaching down for the key. I'll try the metal box first. Anyone have anything to add before I do? Caoilte steps toward the metal box, key extended and tries the lock with a 'here we go' expression.
I'll stop if anyone makes a suggestion.

Mmmmm, maybe keep your shield up as you open it...just in case there is a trap we didn't find.

Isador nods in agreement while he quietly takes a few steps backward.

Good Call on trying the metal box first. The other looks like it might be magically protected by those runes.

Let me know if you need any help...

Kat just gives a mischievous grin and also steps out of the anticipated "blast zone", ready to dodge any projectiles that may or may not come her way.

Caoilte musters the courage to try the key in the lock of the steel box. Caoilte bravely places the key in the lock. It fits! He begins to gingerly turn the key...as the key turns in breaks and crumbles in Caoilte's hand.

The red gives an impressed whistle as the key crumbles. Gee Caoilte, guess you really are a brute that doesn't know his own strength. I think we should just keep you at your "Axe in skull" level of delicate operations.
