@Milton: LMAO!!! So nice to find another kindred soul. I just finished rereading those books for.. I don't know.. the thousandth time? That was actually my introduction to roleplaying! I played both Tanis and Sturm through the entire AD+D campaign arc. Hella good times!
@All: With the new GM info provided, can we at least talk to Malini *again* about things first? See if we can find out whats really going on before we go to steal the contract/imp back? I will go along with not forging a new one.. I think thats going to end all kinds of badly for us if we try it.
Here is a suggestion: We send Fendel off to "forge" the contract buying us some time. Meanwhile, we find a way to get to the truth. If that doesn't work, stuff the contract that Fendel is "copying" into a pouch and run like hell.
Awen is not going to like it, but this way, Milton can agree to the plan without too much fuss about Law since we are only acting like we are going to forge it, and Awen can get along with it because we "tried everything etc etc" and wasn't actually a part of breaking the couple up.
Sai'Dothwyn |
It isn't new info, but I know you were really busy when we first got it back then so it must have been lost in the shuffle. I think the the big reveal that they are "alloyed" was the thing that Qalkami didn't tell us(because she didn't know? It wasn't relevant to her needs in any case).
That said, I don't think we will find much new truth beyond what we already know.
I also thought further and Sai's plan to use the contract to control the imp probably won't work because just possession of the contract probably won't be enough . It is between Qalkami and Vassago after all. We do need both the imp and the contract though to complete the task as instructed.
Sai is sticking with that as her vote, grabbing both imp and contract and taking them to big Q.
To do that though let the stealth crew do their thing while the rest of us provide at least some distraction. If that means Awen talks and fishes for something he's looking for, fine by me, but he would be better as part of team stealth/imp grab. Milton may have irritated her a bit, but he has a gift that will likely keep her busy.
Sai appeals to Awen's sense of justice and his desire to stick it to a devil. Sure Malini will hurt for awhile but she will recover. Come on! Vassago is a devil! That's D-EVIL! He doesn't really love her! We are saving her from him. He is just using her, etc... the usual tropes friends tell friends when they don't like the boyfriend/girlfriend.
Fendel, CSI: Absalom |
Yeah, because friends always listen to advice when it comes to significant others.
I was also considering making the forgery at the embassy and concealing it, then going to the magic shop to "make the forgery" and swap the real one with the first duplicate. Good copy left behind, they watch me make a second copy, and we would then have the original.
Risky, boring and dull, but potentially much safer and less violent.
Sai'Dothwyn |
Good plan. With Fendel's recall, he could likely make a forgery from memory and I'm sure there are plenty of places to get the materials in a city like this.

There was a time when I could have claimed to have read "most" of them, but they started cranking out loads of ancillary stuff. Some was good, and some was garbage, and some of it was just an Arthurian tale retold as a Dragonlance story. Was it Galen Beknighted that was basically the Tale of Gawain and the Green Knight?
It's great seeing Margaret and Tracy every year at GenCon though.
I would have loved to see a good 3.0 or Pathfinder translation of the Dragonlance world. There are some problems though. Dragonlance is a bit more "old school" than Pathfinder. The complete lack of Dwarven casters, for example, flies in the face of 3.0/Pathfinder where any race/class combo became possible. To make Krynn dwarves what they should be, would require taking away half the classes from them, which puts them at a HUGE disadvantage in the world as a people.
Venture Teller Play b'Post |
I stopped reading them after the second trilogy, though I have read almost all the Forgotten Realms books to date.
I think It would be an interesting update, even with the dwarven lack of magic. I think Occultist would work for them though, magic weapons and the power of legacy and all that. I would give them a few more martial classes or archetypes to make up for it of course (Book of the 9 swords type archetypes). The lack of divine power would be a bigger issue for most of the play styles that have grown up with a wand of healing available after every combat. :)
.
The plan is to get Vagassi and take him back to Qalqami, correct? How or what is the plan for the "get Vagasso" part?
Awen |
I have read a vast majority of the Forgotten Realms books, including a fair number of the spin offs from the Drizzt series. As for Dragonlance, I stuck to the main story line and then the books they put out explaining the history of each character. Once I read those, I pretty much had my fill and had no interest in following the kids of the heroes past Second Generation (or whatever it's titled).
Milton Smithson |
I highly recommend both the Elven Nations and Dwarven Nations series within the Dragonlance line.
And, of course, Huma, and the two (three?) Kaz books.
Some of the other books are also a decent read.
Awen |
Now that you mention it, I have read the elven nations trilogy. Very powerful writing in there. I've never seen the Dwarven nations trilogy though.. I may have to go looking for that.

Very good point. Thank you! I did indeed miss that, looking back.
Fendel, CSI: Absalom |
It should be easy to separate them as one will want to stay with the contract as I work on the forgery. They did not want to leave it alone with me. We just need to get the other one to stay downstairs. I say we try to get the imp up with the contract and the wife downstairs.
Awen |
That's a good idea. The Imp should be able to tell us if it's a good enough forgery too.

*snort* Well done Fendel, well done.

On a different note, I GMed part II for the local group on Monday. And I now have 3 stars!

As much as I'm pleased that Profession(barrister) is one of the options for skills to forge the contract, I just can't be a part of such shenanigans!
Stealing the Imp, but not taking the contract seems, ummm, useless, but I'm game if the others are.

I thought that to. She wants to imp and the contract, so I was operating under the assumption that I was grabbing both the contract and the imp.
Sai'Dothwyn |
Of course you are getting both. I confirmed that with my post last night in the Gameplay tab as well.

I'm blending in!
Nearby, everyone is blending in (ready to come help...just in case?) nearby. Not that we will need it. **crosses fingers**

Hi guys. Going to be on the road for a few days and am not certain about wifi connectivity. Bot me if you need to.

Safe travels. :)

Fendel, sorry if you get this one 15 times, lol.
All, please refrain from reading spoilers with a qualifier for which you do not meet. In most cases it can ruin the story. In some cases it is considered cheating. In all cases I consider it a breech of PbP etiquette. Thank you. :)

Just because I just noticed you said this at the top of the page:
* Deal with the rogue inevitable
* Recover the imp Vassago
* Secure a contact signature <-- here now
* Not yet determined
* Of course there is a fifth (whoever said there were only 4?)
I had to answer...
Ibn Qaradi: "I believe the Society has secured a fair deal: four tasks of her choosing, and additional support thereafter to help her reestablish herself in the City of Brass."
The emphasis is my own addition. ;) I'm wondering if the fifth is the "additional support thereafter" and a lead into the next adventure.

Unfortunately, my computer decided that it didn't want to work today, and is sitting at the repair shop. Hopefully tomorrow I will be back and rolling!

Aye, the fifth is in the city of brass and is the next adventure.

I am sorry that I haven't posted.. I have been sick the last few days. I am back up and around though, so things should be back to normal.
Fendel, CSI: Absalom |
Quick question. Do you think we will be done with this scenario before May 5th? I know the plan was to go right into Part II after we complete our current undertaking, but PDXAge (my local con) is that weekend, and I want to know if this character will be available to play. It won't level me up in any case, so we should still be good as far as tier goes.
Venture Teller Play b'Post |
That is the plan KaKaw, I will let you know. I haven't forgotten you Brom or War... well I have forgetten War*muttermutter*'s name, but not that I owe him a game.
Aye Fendel we should be done by May 5th. I thought we might take a mini break and do one of the encounters as a combat, giving Adeah and Nivik the choice of which one. It would be out of OP and just an exercise, but some characters are built for combat and John has said that he plans to have at least one scenario that can be solved entirely without combat and it looks like we have chosen that one.
Never fear however, as Part II has lots of combat.
Since Con season is beginning, I will be at PaizoCon at the end of May. Anyone else have potential events to work around?
Sai'Dothwyn |
I am going to the same event as Fendel actually. Other than that I am wide open. There is a chance that at the end of May I might take a weekend with the family, but that is just a weekend and I think it is right around PaizoCon. I almost went to that this year. I am thinking next year will be when I go.
Awen |
I would love for an opportunity to go to Paizocon. Unfortunately, living in the Midwest almost completely precludes this.. airfare, hotel, con tickets.. it all adds up quickly. Fortunately though, I live in southern Indiana and very well may be making my first Con experience this summer at GenCon50! Just hope the stars line up right!
Awen |
I would like to wish all of you a happy holiday season, no matter what path you have chosen to walk. Enjoy the family time and best wishes for all!
Sai'Dothwyn |
Well said. Same to you and everyone else!

In that case, I do sincerely apologize to the entire team.. I thought she was a Pathfinder diplomat, not just a hired person. I have been going on the idea that Qualkami was a somewhat allied person the Pathfinders owed a favor to, but was not high on our list of favorites.
With that distinction, yes I placed a higher preference on what Yasmine had to say.. in addition to the moral argument as well.
How do we get out of the jam that I have created and fulfill this mission?
I have had to go back and reread the first several pages of the game.. and once again, I apologize. I see where the confusion was laid, and I took the bait hook, line, and stinker.
Sai'Dothwyn |
Hey, no worries at all and no apology needed either. It is all fun. I was just playing to Sai's personality and didn't mean to make you feel bad.
I have been trying to play her as methodical, detached, and in most cases direct. As the game progressed I saw her direct nature cause friction so she tried altering her behavior to a small degree. She is an odd personality but by no means does she want to be troublesome. She just doesn't empathize well with others. Please don't take her in play comment as anything personal. Nothing terrible has happened in game and it will work out just fine I am sure.
Fendel, CSI: Absalom |
Hey, these things can happen over long weeks of writing. Remember, its just a game. Now, we just have to pull this off.
Venture Teller Play b'Post |
FWIW: a common complaint for this scenario is that one mission is X and the other mission is counter-X. Awen isn't the first to make this interpretation. As it is explained in some of the backstory/mechanics they do not seem contradictory, but I did not share enough of the GM knowledge to avoid misleading someone.
Forgetting something from an early post is one of the disadvantages of PbP. One of the advantages is that the text is still there for your review whenever you want it. :)
Some mechanics for everyone to mull over as I think I will not get to post tomorrow.
There are several different opportunities for the PCs to sabotage Basira’s party and embarrass him. Each requires two or more skill checks to perform it. Up to two characters can assist with any given skill check, and characters can work together to each fulfill one part of a sabotage’s requirements. However, the PCs can attempt each sabotage method only once (lacing the food with narcotics, for example, is one method). You have a couple of methods already, I will need to know who is attempting what. You may find some others while you are there. Bonus points if you come up with something unique. You must accomplish enough sabotage events to trigger the goose to lay a golden egg end. If an example will help explain this part....
@all:
What would you like to accomplish before the party?
What would you like to accomplish upon entry at the party?
What would you like to accomplish at the party?
