Garrett Goodleaf |
Garrett remains behind while Gesh checks the area for traps... and fails. "Oh my! That looked like it rather hurt, my tusked friend! Perhaps looking up occasionally would help." He says with a nod, looking completely earnest in his statement.
Kohi, you'd only be taking 3.5 pounds of stuff with Garrett's backpack. It's not much to you big folks, but when you're a little guy with a low strength... ugh... I cannot wait until I can afford a mithral shirt... 5 pounds for armor, yay!
Desh Greyskin |
No problem on making rolls for me ... it's impossible for me to know how many are appropriate, so you should feel free to roll those types in order to keep the scouting moving forward.
Desh drags himself out from under the debris. ”Ooooow.”
Wand of CLW, x2 charges: 2d8 + 2 ⇒ (6, 5) + 2 = 13
After the healing, Desh works his still-sore shoulder as he puts away the wand. "Flyn, remind me to put Addington on our list."
Are you saying that Desh found ANOTHER trap on the chest itself? Or that Desh totally found the trap by way of setting it off?
Desh Greyskin |
Stubbornly refusing to believe that this secret room held a trap and nothing else, Desh digs through the rubble looking for whatever might have been inside the chest.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Desh Greyskin |
"Dumb," Desh mutters as he kicks a largish piece of rubble. Then, putting it out-of-mind (a simple task for a simple mind), he hikes his longspear and heads for the throne room's only remaining door ... checking it for traps before taking a peek through.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16; +1 vs traps
Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
I moved everyone on the map. If you want to shuffle your spot, feel free.
Desh Greyskin |
Ah. Well, maybe this will go somewhere useful. I say we take the newly revealed secret door. I've moved everyone over there... feel free to use Desh's last rolls to deal with the new secret passage.
"Someone had too much time on their hands," growls the half-orc as they find yet another pair of hidden traps/doors.
Garrett Goodleaf |
Garrett grins as they find yet another trapdoor and secret door. "The fellow who built this place really enjoyed his trapdoors! I wonder if he ever forgot about them and fell through his own floor...? OH!" His eyes widen suddenly. "Now that would make for an excellent story!"
GM Engleaktig |
Wisps of decayed and sagging spider webs droop from the walls of this room, which appears to be empty except for the long-dead, dismembered corpse of a giant spider and a stout, freestanding wooden closet in the southwestern corner. The ceiling is covered with dusty spider webs bulging down from a grid of wooden beams and plaster fifteen feet above the floor. Faint moans and plaintive sobbing come from the closet.
(Using those rolls, you didn't actually see the trap in the middle of the floor. :-( But, I need to show you the room anyway!)
Garrett Goodleaf |
Garrett unfurls his whip, ready to trip whatever is in the closet should it prove to be an enemy, still feeling rather weak from the spider poison. "What a horrible place... I love it! The stories that I will pen from these encounters..." He appears absolutely giddy! "Flyn, my good brother, would you do the honors?"
GM Engleaktig |
The moment the closet is touched, the voice ceases and the closet collapses, the heavy panels falling outward (the closet is held together only by loose wooden pegs). Then out rushes a fast zombie.
Who? 1d3 ⇒ 2
Slam at Kohi: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18, Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Flyndal Danwrick |
Mwk Silver Morningstar, Power Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Damage 2h: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Flyn swings wildly at the animated corpse, cursing the thing's quick movements.
Garrett Goodleaf |
From behind Desh, Garrett lashes out with his whip to try and trip up the zombie that seems to be suffering from an existential crisis. "You silly, fool! Don't you know zombies are supposed to be slow?"
Trip!: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Garrett Goodleaf |
LOL! In response to the zombie. Garrett cracks his whip in response. "Physically slow! Though now you have me questioning whether I should mean both! HAH!"
Garrett Goodleaf |
Garrett turns to look at Ceanel with a nonplussed expression. He then speaks slowly, as if he thought the elven wizard was daft. "Yes, we are." He then leans closer to Desh, covering one side of mouth as if trying to hide his lips from Ceanel and whispers rather loudly. "I thought elves were supposed to be intelligent!"
:D I love the light-heartedness of your games, Engleaktig!
GM Engleaktig |
Flyn swings: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Flyn hits: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Flyn says: "You talk too much!" as he knocks the zombie'sm jaw clean off!
The zombie looks at Flyn with surprise: "I thay, wath that completely nethethary?" and it attempts to slam Flyn:
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23, damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16m Miss!
The party is up, again!
Kohinoor an-Gul |
Kohinoor swings her scimitar up and into the zombie's chest, hoping to at least drive the wind from it and make it shut up. Her quick attack finished, she steps away from the abomination.
Scimitar: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Damage?: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Attack, 5-foot-step.
Kohinoor an-Gul |
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Kohinoor pulls out her wand, giving herself a quick tap where the zombie slammed into her. "Anyone else need some? If not, we should move on." She walks her way to the door to the west, stopping just before it. "Desh? Could you do your thing? Everything else in here seems trapped."
Desh Greyskin |
Desh nods, then continues his work. He gives the skeleton body, the broken closet it burst out of, and the room in general a sweep to find anything useful or valuable. Then he moves to the western door, going through his usual routine.
We didn't actually ID that floor trap, so unless Desh catches it in this sweep of the room (which I would have done regardless), it's likely he'd trigger it as he searches for items. :/
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13; +1 vs traps
If that turns up nothing, at the western door...
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23; +1 vs traps
Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Flyndal Danwrick |
Wand of CLW via Koh: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 Perfect!
Flyndal kicks the corpse, looking over the fallen door. "Harumph. Someone’s got a sick sense of humor."
GM Engleaktig |
No rolls needed. You guys are being super cautious.
The walls and ceiling of this room are hidden behind a thick, gray-white forest of spider webs that blocks all vision beyond ten feet. Webs are everywhere, creating a maze of vertical sheets. Gray, furry dust clings to the sticky, white webs. The desiccated, shriveled corpse of a long-dead man hangs spread-eagle across one of these layers of webbing, and rusty swords, daggers, and axes hang securely from others.
Before you enter, you hear a faint, intermittent clinking sound, as if two small pieces of metal are striking each other softly.
Marching order into the room? Feel free to place yourselves.
Desh Greyskin |
Desh will open the door. I’d suggest we put Flyn up front followed by Garret/Kohi. I’ve moved everyone into that lineup, but feel free to move yourselves around as you’d prefer.
Desh makes sure the team knows about the sound. Then–when the group has signaled their readiness—he yanks the door open … fully expecting something horrible to hit him.
If nothing happens immediately, he'll lead the team quietly into the room ... eyes and ears on scanning for threats.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22; +1 vs traps
Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Garrett Goodleaf |
Garrett follows along, humming and planning on which adjectives to use for describing their adventures within the spider-haunted halls of the Emerald Spire! "...the priestess' furious fury... Furious fury? Ridiculous, no. Oh! Burning fury... No..." He sighs. "Oh! Righteous fury!"
Desh Greyskin |
Shaking his head, Desh steps further into the room, keepign his voice low. "Writing the next great Taldan novel, huh? Make sure to note Flyn's height ... he can be touchy about it."
Then he takes the time to give the room a closer inspection before leading the team to the northern room.
Perception (current room): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21; +1 vs traps
Perception (door to B7): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21; +1 vs traps
Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
O.o
What are the chances or rolling straight 21's on 2 different skills?
GM Engleaktig |
1 in 8000. :-)
Stealth: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19
Desh notices a moon spider hiding in the webs. He's jingling the coins to get your attention, hoping to remain hidden while you investigate. You see him. He sees you seeing him. It's on!

The spider entangles Kay with a web. Having fought these things before, you're all pretty sure that he intends to pull key up to the ceiling with him.
