Here you can ask me, or someone else, about stuff. Be it about flavor, fluff, or rules. Ordinary PbP etiquette rules apply.

Seems pretty straight-forward, doesn't it?

How do you input your character stats above your posts?

Liberty's Edge

Just edit your profile and type them into the class or race line.

Grand Lodge

Male Half-Orc Level 9, #-2

@Edgar, when editing your character profile, you can enter info into some fields that will always appear (in bold) below your character posts on campaign pages. The fields are (in this order):

    1. Gender
    2. Race
    3. Classes / levels

You can add extra info into those fields in order to make the extra info appear in your posts.

Lort's above details are (with extra spaces before the the slashes so it doesn't get parsed... silly Paizo not allowing [noparse] tags):

    Gender: [ooc]Male[ /ooc]
    Race: [ooc]NG Half-Orc[ /ooc]
    Classes / levels: [ooc]Fighter 1[ /ooc] | HP: 12/12 | [ooc]AC: 16 (11 Tch, 15 Fl)[ /ooc] | CMD: 16 | [ooc]F: 4, R: 1, W: 3[ /ooc] | Init: +1 | [ooc]Perc: +7[ /ooc] | Active conditions: None

I've used "ooc" tags to alternate the color of each snippet of info... you clearly don't need to if you don't want. I just prefer it for readability. You also don't need to put all the extra detail in the classes / levels field (there's probably even a character limit there), but I like to have my actual class in the class field. Slightly OCD. ;-) Feel free to include whatever info you like, unless Deussu decides that something is required.

Oh, and many thanks to ZanThrax for pointing this out to me in the first place!

@Thaddeus, looks like I was typing my reply when you submitted yours! Didn't mean to step on your toes there.

No worries...your reply was fancier than mine. And I think I like your formatting better!

All good, then. Feel free to use / modify my formatting for yourself. Not that you wouldn't anyway...

Thanks, I think I figured it out.

Yay! Mission briefing!

Now, I'm not forcing you to buy excessive hiking gear with your meager wealth (*snicker*), but surely it'll feel more 'realistic'. :)

Sovereign Court

Male God Forum Paladin 20

Wilmannator asked about what kind of book-keeping I expect.

Well, Pathfinder Society doesn't really say anything about if taking note of foods and such should be monitored. I personally hate such micromanagement, so I don't expect you to calculate the distance traveled, your overland speeds, number of days on the road, and then sum up trail rations needed. Instead I will let you 'fill up' your rations, for free, at Oregent, Olfden, and Piren's Bluff so that you'll all survive the expedition without succumbing to starvation.

So, actually, the only thing I want you to take a look at is encumbrance. Unless you have a character that can cast create water, I suggest you come up with a way to carry the huge amounts of it you need. Was it 1 gallon per day per medium creature? That's 6 gallons (around approx. 48 pounds) of water per day. Of course traveling alongside the river negates the need to carry water, unless your character is paranoid. :)

Oh and traveling without sleeping gear won't make your character be fatigued every morning, but I'll sure as heck make your character's hair all messy every morning!

TL;DR: I trust that you handle book-keeping within reason. Don't overdo it, don't ignore it.

Grand Lodge

Male Half-Orc Level 9, #-2

@Deussu: Big sigh of relief about book-keeping! It does get tedious. Thanks for the free rations. To comply with PFS as best as possible, I'll "ooc" the supplies Lort gets and update my profile accordingly.

Sounds good. At first I missread your post and thought you wanted us to buy and carry a ton of stuff with our meager wealth. Is weather something we will have to worry about? That is what I was trying to imply when I said I didn't want my companions to freeze on me.

Create water is not a problem (nor is create beer, the special use of create water for Caydenites!)

Gunari will carry his share, leaving behind his unneeded ten torches for ten more days of food.

Weather effects are, unfortunately, a little used aspect in PFS games. Of course during the course of several weeks there will be all kinds of weather, but nothing threatening. Nor is there any apparent danger of altitude sickness. (also a very little used aspect)

So no, nothing to worry about.

One thing. I don't know how you've played PbP before, but I'm more used to the GM rolling the appropriate skills, simply because the players might not know what skills to roll.

Do you allow me to roll certain checks for you?

Edit: Or, wait, I could put an OOC mark at the end of a post where I tell what check it is to examine an item... yeah, that I must do.

Grand Lodge

Male Half-Orc Level 9, #-2

Happy for you to make any kind of roll you like on my behalf at any time. An ooc comment is also fine by me. Happy for you to alternate at will also.

Male

This is my first PbP, but I did some reading on other PbP threads to better understand the gameplay. I noticed that when some characters act a certain way where their players think a check roll could apply, they roll it after the narrative since it could be simply ignored if not applicable. I think it helps push the story forward and also helps the GM come up with faster responses. But maybe it's their GM's directive to his players.

Either way, I'd respect your style of play so just let us know how you want to 'roll'. No pun intended.

I'll avoid rolling checks until further notice.

Sovereign Court

Male God Forum Paladin 20

It's no biggie to roll them in advance, actually it's helpful... if you happen to roll the appropriate skill.

For example the pearl uses *Appraise* (boy what a world we live in) and Knowledge (dungeoneering). I have a gut feeling no one would have initially tried Appraise. :)

But as said I'll try to remember to mention what skill it is to examine things, unless it uses perception.

Liberty's Edge

I'm used to GM rolled initiative and passive Perception checks...so whatever you think will speed up gameplay is fine with me. All I ask is that I get to make my own life or death saving throws. If I'm going to perish by chance let it be by my poor rolls!

Agreed. Anything to keep things moving. In the other games I am in, there have been lags due to waiting for one skill or another. Deussu, I am fine with you just rolling for us. Not like we are rolling physical dice, anyways!

Sovereign Court

Male God Forum Paladin 20

Noticed something excellent about the messageboards dice rolling system. You can preview the message and it shows you the result, which doesn't change afterwards. Makes my life so much easier.

that's absolutely true!

Allows us to talk about the results (and give color to it). I like that aspect.

@Lort: Clever using Finnish. It's riddled with grammatical errors, but very understandable nonetheless.

Grand Lodge

Male Half-Orc Level 9, #-2

Thanks Deussu, glad you approve.

@Ozren: I've noticed you've got the tongues curse. If you're interested, I'd suggest Arabic - it's the most flowing script I can think of (and it's right to left, how cool is that?)

Example:

Ozren yells: "التحقق من ذلك، اللغة العربية هي باردة"

Aquan:
Check it out, Arabic is cool.

Lort replies: (because we could color our replies also)

Ozren:
"ما في جميع Golarion يقول أوزرين؟"

Everyone else:
"What in all Golarion is Ozren saying?

Again, just if you're interested.

Google Translate English to Arabic, then just copy it in to your post.

Code for the above (with spaces put before the slashes to stop the code from being parsed):

Ozren yells: [b]"التحقق من ذلك، اللغة العربية هي باردة"[ /b]
[spoiler=Aquan]Check it out, Arabic is cool.[ /spoiler]

Lort replies:
[spoiler=Ozren][b]"ما في جميع Golarion يقول أوزرين؟"[ /b][ /spoiler]
[spoiler=Everyone else][b]"What in all Golarion is Ozren saying?[ /b][ /spoiler]

Male

Good post, I was wondering where they get the weird spelling but never thought of G-Translate lol :D

It's nice to learn something new once in a while.

Deussu,
Would you mind if we just kept track of the charges used on wands, and then distributed them between the wands that we have? I'll keep a running total in my tag lines, and then we'll divide out at the end. No big deal, just seems a fairer way of handling it.

Thanks!

Sovereign Court

Male God Forum Paladin 20

Yeah that's fine by me.

So, other than Khalos and myself, who has wands of Cure Light Wounds. I can keep track for the group. Gunari has two spring loaded wrist sheaths, which he is using for two of wands. I'll keep the tally even if Ozren, or someone else, is using them.

Good enough?

Sovereign Court

Male God Forum Paladin 20

Spring loaded wrist sheaths, eh? Remember, that those things provoke attacks of opportunity.

Just saying. :)

No wands, I'm afraid - not enough in the starting cash for that kinda loot.

Sovereign Court

Hmm, good cop/bad cop situation.

I think you can't have enough healing wands for PFS. They weigh practically nothing, and it can save you when the cleric in the party has this weird no-heal spell selection aside from channeling.

Worth the cost of 2PP so far.

Nah, Gunari, it'd be: good cop, bad cop, dead suspect. ;-)

Just a heads up; my upcoming weekend is going to be interesting for me. My wife is attending a convention, and I'm left alone with the baby at home. So my update frequency might be a tad slower than usual.

Sovereign Court

Male God Forum Paladin 20

I'm going to do a map now, but it'll take some time to extract it from the scenario.

Sovereign Court

Male God Forum Paladin 20

Is there something you'd like to see in the map? Right now I haven't included your characters as it's not a combat situation.

Grand Lodge

Male Half-Orc Level 9, #-2

Looks good. I take it you intended to clip the room for line of sight reasons... that could get a little hard to maintain. It's something I really didn't like with Roll20 (the sharp LoS darkness). If you're comfortable with it, I'd personally prefer to see the full room and whatever exits there are. That way, when we eventually enter it (as we probably will) we can make quicker decisions on where to move.

True. I can, however, quite quickly edit and update the map. EDIT: It took me a minute.

I'll show the whole rooms your character can see in from now on.

I agree that it's annoying, but I'm okay with whatever's easier for you.

Sovereign Court

Male God Forum Paladin 20

I now show the entire room at once for ease of play.

I also inserted your characters into the field to show about where you are. I made the marching order based on message order. (Zatoma, however, explicitly mentioned going past Lort)

As you might guess, green squares are PCs (or controlled by PCs). L = Lort, E = Edgar, G = Gunari, O = Ozren, T = Thaddaeus, K = Khalos. The yellow square represents NPCs, in this case Torvic (yellow T, of course). Enemies/foes will be represented as red.

Any idea how you want difficult terrain and such to be shown?

Grand Lodge

Male Half-Orc Level 9, #-2

If you can, a red transparent overlay for difficult terrain would be good.
