Zalkuthar is a blue-skinned, blue-haired aasimar. He stands about 5 ft. 7 in. (1.7 meters) and seems very slender. He dons a robe that is black on one side and white on the other, the color seemingly split down the middle vertically. He carries a holy symbol of Nethys and a spell component pouch. He has all manners of wands, scrolls, and other various substances used in casting of all manners of magic. You also see a spellbook tucked away on him, and he bears a ring engraved with the symbol of Nethys.

In a reserved tone he speaks, "Greetings, my peers. I am Zalkuthar, although Zal will do if you wish. I am a practitioner of both the scholarly arcane and mystical divine. I pledge myself to Nethys, the god of magical destruction and benevolence." He stops his speech to grab a spellbook from his pouch and place his hand on it while reciting a well-practiced prayer. "Nethys, point with the finger of the scorched black hand. May the magic bestowed upon me by you guide us through our journey."

"May I ask, my beloved fellow Pathfinders, what deities or causes do you believe and what are your talents?"

As the early dawn’s light crests over the Wall of Heaven mountain range, the Lantern Lodge is already bustling with activity. The sound of clashing swords echoes in the air from a nearby training area, and a group of Pathfinder agents silently meditates in the front courtyard. The lodge’s doors open, revealing a long corridor and a faint floral aroma wafts gently in the air. Sturdy shelves laden with artifacts from all corners of Tian Xia line the corridor’s walls. Venture-Captain Amara Li emerges from a door labeled “Taldor Room” in a fine cherry-red kimono. “Good morning, Pathfinders. I hope your travels have been safe and enjoyable,” Li says. “Please, come inside.”
The Taldor Room is an opulent meeting space with a solid mahogany table and ornately carved chairs. Its walls are adorned with ornamental weapons and portraits of noble families in resplendent finery. Elegant porcelain teacups and plates sit in front of each chair, and several platters of fruit, cakes, and cheeses occupy the center of the table, surrounding a steaming pot of tea. The venture-captain pours herself a cup of tea and continues, “As I’m sure you are aware, the Grand Lodge was attacked a few months ago. Since then, the Society has been following any and all leads that could help us find and arrest the Aspis criminals behind the assault. From Varisia to Nirmathas to Absalom itself, the Society has successfully gathered a substantial amount of information about Aspis operations. We have combined our own resources with the reports of a turncoat within the Consortium whom we have taken to calling ‘Three Rings’ to create a list of vital Aspis operatives all across Golarion. One in particular, Tseka, lives beneath Goka, in a warren of tunnels and ruins called Undermarket. Specifically, she lives in its deepest levels, known as Deepmarket. Tseka works from the shadows, and makes most of her profits from black market trades. “Deepmarket is a dark and dangerous community of criminals, thieves, and outcasts. Those who don’t know the area or have connections to protect them make easy targets. I recommend using a little subterfuge to help yourselves blend in, and to give Tseka as little time to prepare for your approach as possible.”
The venture-captain places a small wooden chest on the table and says, “To get inside Deepmarket, I propose that you pose as smugglers bringing in a fresh round of contraband. Once there, find Tseka. We know that she has valuable information, so do everything in your power to bring her back alive, and collect whatever documents you find in her base of operations. I do not know where within Deepmarket she resides. Gather what information you can from the locals in Undermarket, and seek out a guide to help you navigate these treacherous waters. Do you have any questions?”

All:
Almost anything can be found in the black markets of Undermarket under Goka, including drugs, poisons, gambling, slaves, and even firearms.

Gather Info/ K. Local DC 15:
Rumors hold that one of the many entrances into Undermarket resides inside a silk shop named the Cresting Blossom. Ordinary customers use currency to purchase wares; however, those who provide contraband to the proprietor gain access to a secret tunnel leading far beneath the city.

Gather Info/ K. Local DC 20:
Whispers from the ratfolk of Undermarket tell of the Aspis Consortium’s renewed recruitment efforts in the last few months.

All:
Undermarket is comprised of large caverns. A canal flows through it, allowing contraband shipments to flow in from the Embaral Ocean.

K. Dungeoneering or K. Geography DC 15:
Deeper into Undermarket, lost crypts, burial chambers, and ancient churches liter the ominous caverns. Even locations that seem to be abandoned are frequently repurposed.

K. Dungeoneering or K. Georgraphy DC 20:
Rumors hold that an entrance into the Darklands resides in Deepmarket, hidden among the dozens of tunnels that wind down for miles into the darkness.

Kaleb tells comrades what he knows

Dark Archive

'No questions. Ready to go. And let the Heavens bless us!' - says the man in the hood and nods to the Venture-Captain.

He is about 40 years old, strongly built, with dark red beard, piercing green eyes and smooth voice. He very modestly equipped: the inconspicuous monk's robe, a short sword without decoration and a simple crossbody bag. Experienced Pathfinder can suggests that the bag may be 'unusual' - and it is there hidden all that this man doesn't want to show. Also, you get the feeling that when he is not looking straight at you, you can quite quickly forget about his presence. And this is no accident.

'Greetings. My name is Kaleb Vesperra. I am an abbot of a small temple in Absalom, were is customary to pray to any of the Empyreal Lords. However, in our sermons we highlight four of them. Those whose domain is Darkness. We see our mission to do our best to redeem all the evil creatures living in darkness and to protect all good creatures whose home is darkness too. My patron, Kelinahat, favors the spies and the secret operations, because they help to avoid unnecessary bloodshed. Many prominent people of my flock are Pathfinders, and I also no exception. What about this mission... I'm willing to offer you my skills as diplomat, spy and priest. Verily I say unto you! Walking the Path of Shadows, we will succeed! And let Her Dark Wing will shelter us!' - and he concludes his speech, making a complicated hand gesture, as if blessing all present.

Perception DC 10:

As he talks, you notice a very strange thing. The shadow of Kaleb sometimes does not coincide with his movements. Looks like from time to time it starts to live its own life, such as looking around or trying to reach any items. However, it is not always, and it is easy to overlook.

"Deepmarket, is it? Wasn't expecting to go directly into criminal territory for my first visit to Tian Xia, but nonetheless it should prove to be a unique experience."

"Amara Li, do we have any contraband in which to present to the underground to gain access?"

Can't fail that perception check for Kaleb
Zalkuthar, lacking any restraint to describe anything he would describe as magical, looks towards Kaleb. "Fascinating! You have found a way to manipulate the shadows to your will? What an interesting phenomenon!"

Zalkuthar thinks to himself for a moment. Subterfuge... seems like I could use another spell. "If others don't mind, I would like to find a spellcaster in the Lantern Lodge and spend the time to copy a spell that will help me disguise myself, as without magic I'm afraid I lack those sorts of talents."

I would like for Zalkuthar to scribe disguise self into his spellbook. Would cost 15 gp (10 gp scribe cost + 5 gp finder's fee cost). That is, if he has the time to do so.

Dark Archive

For three heart beats Kaleb looks at Zalkuthar, and though his face reflected no emotion, he's obviously thinking hard. Then he slowly turns to his shadow, which now exactly repeats his movements, and strictly looks at it (kinda look on the guilty puppy). He then turns back to Zalkuthar.

'It's a gift from Kelinahat. In fact, this shadow is absolutely intelligent. It helps me in my operations. With this Gift, the Darkness became my true ally as it never could be for the average human. Blessed are all those who follows the path which was shown to us by She on Ebon Wings!' - and again he repeats the complex hand gesture, but this time as if blessing himself.

Amara Li nods her head and smiles at Zalkuthar. "Indeed, I do. I have several items to give you, hoping to aid your mission. The first is a disguise kit. This should be enough for all of you to get some form of disguise together in order to blend in. I also have two scrolls of disguise self to help you. In addition, I have a cover for you. Within this chest, are 7 pieces of contraband—a dose of blue whinnis poison, a pistol from Alkenstar, a piece of bawdy artwork depicting a Gokan celebrity, jade unholy symbols of Fumeiyoshi, Lady Nanbyo, and Lamashtu, and an engraved darkwood box containing half a dozen oracular fingerbones smuggled out of Po Li. With these items, you should be able to secure entrance to the Deepmarket and hopefully find a way to Tseka."

Zalkuthar: Grabbing that spell is fine with me.

Ah, a scroll of disguise self! I won't have to seek out a caster afterall.

If we are given a scroll of Disguise Self, then Zalkuthar will just spend the 10 gp to scribe it and then memorize one. If we have time to change spells, I'd like to do so.

'Venture-Captain, it's great that we have such a legend. Before I turned to Good, I was... hm... Let's say I have managed to appear a rich life experience. I think I will be able to play this role.'

Zalkuthar: I figured that would change your plans.. give me the spellcraft rolls and we will see what you get! Two hours to learn/ transcribe the spell should be workable, just remember that it does erase the spell from the scroll. I do not think however, we can take the 8 hours rest/ 1 hr studying to prepare this spell. If you have something that mitigates this and allows for spell swapping, please let me know.

Pending no further questions..

After Zalkuthar spends a couple hours pouring over his spellbook and the scrolls, the party gets costumed up and sets out, following Kaleb. You draw a lot of attention as you move over to the Cresting Blossom. It seems that those above ground do not often see those from below, and they give you a wide berth at first glance at your attire. You arrive in short order at the silk shop, and enter to the tinkling sound of little bells above the door. Inside the shop, a lone merchant dusts a multicolored class vase prominently displayed on the counter. The shop's walls are lined with fine silk tapestries, and its shelves are stocked with fine glasswork. When you enter, the shopkeep looks up from his task and greets you warmly in common. "Hello and welcome to my shop! I have many colors and types of silk to offer.. what would you be interested in?"

Zalkuthar just takes 10 for 24 on Spellcraft to scribe the spell.

He'll use his arcane bonded item to cast Disguise Self from his spellbook, taking the appearance of a tiefling with slightly reddish skin. EDIT: Actually, he'll use his lesser metamagic rod of extend to extend the duration.

I updated Zalkuthar's stat line to reflect his new disguise check (+8).

A bored, faceless guard opens the door to allow you to pass through. He doesn't even give you a second glance as he closes the door behind you and bars it once more.

The warming light from the sun has been replaced with a flickering orange glow that emanates from torches stationed throughout the entirety of this cavern. Buildings made of various types of wood and stone line the walls of this immense grotto, while other ramshackle shops snake their way through the causeway. A large canal in the middle of the cave moves ocean water deeper into the chamber. Multiple slapdash docks with accompanying dinghies bob slowly on the canal. A large building stretches across the canal, its exterior caked in barnacles and algae. The smell of salt water lingers in the air. The people down here skirt from shadow to shadow, intent on their own problems.

Zalkuthar and Phantomblade move about the stalls, and phantomblade finds a shopkeep that practically pulls them into his stall.
The vendor is tall and thin, with short black hair and beady brown eyes. His speech is rushed, words tripping over themselves as they rush out of his mouth. "Fine gentlemen! My name is Olek, and I have many things here to interest such upstanding gentlemen as yourselves just have to see what I have to sell! I have these great coatings for your sword, sir! You should see what they do to the creatures that would have your hide!" he exclaims, pushing several vials of Silver Blanche into your hands. Basically, you can name your alchemical object here. Its a good time/place to begin your questions..

As Kaleb pauses in reminiscence, he feels a tug on his pant leg. Looking down, he sees a dirty and bedraggled Tengu sitting beside him. Ragged rags cover deep blue feathers, and she has obviously not been well. She twitches and is jumpy, often staring off into space and muttering to herself. She is paranoid, squawking at empty air and jumping at every noise. "Sir? A coin fer an old ships captain?" she asks, then turns her head back down the alley and says "*Squawk!* Ye'll git yers, ya will! I'll pay ye as I can! just leave me alone.." her voice trails off into mutters and squawks.

Alchemical items? Useful, but a little too mundane for me...

Ragged rags cover deep blue feathers, and she has obviously not been well. She twitches and is jumpy, often staring off into space and muttering to herself. She is paranoid, squawking at empty air and jumping at every noise. "Hello.. A coin fer an old ships captain?" she asks, then turns her head back down the alley and says "*Squawk!* Ye'll git yers, ya will! I'll pay ye as I can! just leave me alone.." her voice trails off into mutters and squawks.

DC 15 Heal:
The Tengu is obviously deeply addicted to something damaging her wisdom and constitution. This drug has likely addled her brains to the point of insanity.

Rumor has it that the Aspis set up a base down here, and there are checkpoints spread around where Aspis agents will stop you if they see you. Its been pretty quiet until recently.. something about an attack and a traitor from that Lodge building has caused their numbers to rise. I have no clue where Tseka or Oremi are. Tseka's the one in charge of Aspis business down here. Not that I’ve ever seen her. Few people have. They say she keeps to the shadows, and anyone who crosses her winds up dead before they can even blink.” The Tengu shudders and whispers, “She does a lot of trade in poisons and magical components. It’s a lucrative market, but like I said before, don’t go getting any ideas about skimming a bit of her profits. She’s not the merciful type.”

During the conversation, Kaleb carefully looks at the tengu.

Heal: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19 'All clear. Addicted'.

'Great. And what do we do now? Gonna walk the streets and shouting their names, until they decide to respond?' His face distorts some gangster grin, and you could swear that now Kaleb doesn't play a role. 'Listen to me, little Tengu. You should now come up to help us find any of this two.' He shows a gold coin clutched in his right hand. 'Here is a couple of doses of your joy, right?' His left hand he casually puts on the sword hilt, and his grin gets even angrier (if that's even possible). 'But if you don't help us right now... Instead of joy, there will be a lot of pain. Choose. But very quickly, feathered friend.'

The tengu quakes where she sits. "I've told ye what I know.. Go away! I was trying to help you, and now this!??!" She grabs her few meager belongings to her chest and shrinks back from Kaleb, looking pleadingly at the rest of the party for aid.

2. If Kaleb sees a lie... we'll see.

The party moves through the undermarket, trying to decide their next move. Suddenly, a meek and quiet voice calls out to the party from the shadows. "You seem lost.. Do you know where you are going?"
