Skarn Moonbane |
Skarn prepares to move upstairs. "Let's move on before more are summoned. "

DM Kludde |
Behind the double doors is the gnome's bedroom, where the gnome is lying, fast asleep.
Mogall Dark |
Mogall comments, "Most unlikely that the Gnome is such a sound sleeper. Most likely an illusion." The Wayang attempts to disbelieve the gnome on the bed.
will to disbelieve: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
"But it looks so real!"
~Frost~ |
Frost looks a bit confused, "Now we've seen him we can't really keep sneaking about, we could look a right bunch of burglars"
Grimbli Fizzwhizzle |
Will Save to disbelieve (Animal Friend): 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 3 + 1 = 17
Considering the fact that they had just seen the gnome waving through the window moments ago, Grimbli doubts that the body in front of them is real. Grimbli spends a few moments casting a quick spell to detect magical auras, then stares at the figure on the bed.
Cast detect magic and attempt to discern whether it's an illusion.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
DM Kludde |
Grimbli detects magic, and the sleeping gnome is definitely an illusion. It looks so real, though. The room past the southeastern door contains a round table surrounded by chairs, and the walls are replete with tome-laden bookshelves. Fimbrik is in here, looking through his tomes.
Skarn Moonbane |
Will (disbelieve): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16 +4 for being told it isn't real?
When Grimbli confirms their doubts about Fimbrik being real, Skarn blinks twice to try and vanish the gnome from his mind.
Then he'll look into the gnome's papers, looking for clues.
DM Kludde |
Sharon searches the papers of the gnome, but finds little but arcane tomes onto nature of illusion, research papers and treatises. The room to the northeast, however, contains a neatly written note, lying on a desk.
(See handout)
On the back of the note, a name is written:
Hollis "Evil Grin" Thorne
~Frost~ |
"Hmmm, back to look at those names again...why were some words underlined I wonder"
DM Kludde |
"These underlined portions of the epitaphs seem to be oblique references to those who failed the test of the Starstone. The Shrine of the Failed pays homage to these failed aspirants...let's go there and see if we can link these names..." Henri says.
See Kn(Local) roll above =)
Mogall Dark |
k(local): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Mogall recalls that Dreng said something about '4331 Merfandel', but didn't make the connection then. Maybe with the the additional hint from fimbrik note "What does Merfandel have to do with Blade?".
Skarn Moonbane |
"We should probably check out the shrine, especially the part where Hollis "Evil Grin" is mentioned, I guess. And there is a password in Fimbrik's notes, it could be important."
I noticed that I haven't studied the coin yet, as Skarn was talking with the Pharasmin priestess when we found it. Maybe it's a good idea to do it now. Casting guidance, then detect magic, then: Spellcraft, guidance, take 10: 10 + 5 + 1 = 16
"Actually, this coin is a Pathfinder's Coin. It appears to contain a matrix causing it to spin in the air if put above a wayfinder. Then, it can deliver a message recorded inside. Anyone has a wayfinder? If none of you have one, we can always travel back to the Wisp on the way to the shrine to ask Janira to lend us her wayfinder in order to listen to the message contained inside the coin. Sounds good?"
DM Kludde |
I think some of you have a wayfinder, so:
A man's voice sounds:
The path and chamber are complete, hidden behind the nameplate of the requested aspirant and guarded by the word you requested. Fimbrik will add more.
Skarn Moonbane |
"Everything makes sense! We'll head to the Shrine of the Failed, find Hollis "Evil Grin"'s name, where the password "Wiffle" will probably open a door to a secret chamber. This is so exciting!"
Skarn suggests they leave for the shrine immediately.
Nestezuk Gnorth |
"Oh, this thing can do such thing..." surprised Nestezuk put his wayfinder back to belt pouch, "Those wayfinders are cool! Probably they have other special features."
Vague Henri |
Henri had not earned his wayfinder yet, but had heard about them in his classes and in talking with other Pathfinders. He vows to get one as soon as he could - they seemed to have many useful purposes! "Off to the Shrine now!" he says to no one in particular...
DM Kludde |
At the centre of the Ascendant Court, the Starstone cathedral looms over the city. Next to it, the Shrine of the failed. As the party arrives, the place is completely empty, and it soon becomes clear why: Sir Reinhart has mae it clear he will attempt the test of the Starstone. As the valiant— and utterly doomed—knight prepares to charge his steed across the chasm outside Starstone Cathedral, everybody has moved into position to look - giving the party free reign of the Shrine of the Failed.
Past the entry, a monumental chamber stretches eighty feet from end to end, with a ceiling suspended thirty feet from the floor by great pillars. Seven arched passages lead to humble rooms, each of which contains a polished stone altar dedicated to one of the failed aspirants who attempted the Test of the Starstone.
Each of the niches contains a small stone altar to one of the failed aspirants. Each altar stands upon a raised dais and bears a small brass nameplate identifying the aspirant and the would-be-god’s areas of interest.
There's Demuren, who would be the god of sacrifice, Gobru, who aspired to be the god of fish and bountiful sea, Mellag, acolyte of rot, Oggo of the sixteen poses, Plokkis of spoiled food and wastefulness, Silmor, of blades, and Spuchasta, who aspired to be the god of Hallucinatory incense and herbs. (E2a-g)
~Frost~ |
Frost follows behind, clearly and loudly stating the password at each.
Grimbli Fizzwhizzle |
Grimbli pauses and reviews the data thus far. "Interesting. Did you realize that two of the entries on the Wall of Names have words underlined that correspond to two of these would-be gods' realms of influence? I'm not sure what to do with "silence and serenity", but "blades" and "rot" seem to be pretty self-evident."
Mogall Dark |
Mogall goes to the Silmor alcove which mention blade and speak "Wiffle"
-Posted with Wayfinder
DM Kludde |
Frost goes around Wiffle, wiffle! while Henri tries to find the name "Evil Grin". Mogall joins Frost in wiffling, but saying the name doesn't seem to have any effect. He does notice, however, that the nameplate in the shrine is not entirely fastened. It's possible to slide it to the side, and when he does it reveals a little chalkboard and some chalk.
Mogall Dark |
Spotting the chalkboard, Mogall writes 'Wiffle' in neat script.

DM Kludde |
The west wall of the shrine suddenly vanishes, and opens to a large natural cave. It is dimly lit. The cave end in a small alcove.
Actually, it only looks like a natural cave, a very clever construction made with a stone shape spell
Several desks are arranged along the northern and eastern edges of this small stone alcove. Whereas the stonework leading to this chamber is rough, the walls in the alcove are polished. A single gem rests among the neatly filed papers on the desk, emitting a soft luminescence that brightens the small room.
On the desk is a stack of paperwork. Even at first glance, it is clear that this is a priceless collection of Pathfinder lore. Browsing through it, much of it seems to be encrypted in coded Azlanti. It is clear that understanding the true scope of this discovery requires several weeks of careful study by researchers at the Grand Lodge.
Grimbli Fizzwhizzle |
Grimbli smiles broadly at the cave's discovery. "That was completely unexpected, wouldn't you say, Fluffy?" He casts a quick cantrip to determine what inside radiates magic.
Cast detect magic
~Frost~ |
Frost smiles at the revelation of how the word was to be used, then follows on.
Skarn Moonbane |
Skarn's eyes feast on what they found there. "A true treasure indeed. What good is gold when knowledge is power?"
He gently pats Fianna, then gets ready to go back to the Grand Lodge and report dutifully to Drandle Dreng once the papers have been recovered.
Mogall Dark |
Mogall keeps his eyes open and uses detect magic to help look for signs of magic.
perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

He too is very distracted by the unknown knowledge the pages could contain.
DM Kludde |
Grumble finds some magic on the gemstone: it is an alexandrite imbued with continual light.
As the adventurers emerge from the hidden cave, a dwarf and an elf are hiding behind the pillars of the shrine We are sent by the company of the Devil's Claw. Surrender what you find in there, and we'll let you go.
Just to show they're not messing around, the elf raises his bow.

Henri trades accuracy for quickness, and his lightning fast draw and shot is only followed up by the sound of an arrow hitting a wall and clattering to the ground.
The dwarf, surrounded by a mirroring image of himself, delays.

Nestezuk has Uncanny Dodge, so he is not flat-footed, unless they are level 5. and his AC is 16 for a while.
Nestezuk looked at the halfling behind his back, but reflexes acted first and he was able to dodge the blow. He decided to jump away, but was to clumsy for a small nimble guy, who used that opportunity to strike him again.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12 Probably, provoking AoO vs AC16
After being away from that new threat, half-orc finally drunk his potion and started to grow.

Stepping out into the room Mogall sees the two additional foes enter at the far end of the chamber.
The Wayang wizard uses his magic to alter the perception of reality causing a thick row of nasty looking bushes to grow up in a line across the room in a matter of seconds. going from small plants to a 10 foot thick dense wall of cruel looking hedge with three inch thorns dripping with green poison looking liquid. The wall denseness obscures all vision past it.
