Wrestling himself free, Oloch hack at the construct with his great sword. A satisfying crunk confirms the contact, and splinters fly everywhere. Takahiro adds him own onslaught, attacking twice, the first stroke a solid - but careful - hit, the second doing away with the last illusory double.

Then he takes a step back and casts a spell similar to the one Badru used, making illusory doubles appear around him.

Finally, he retrieves a potion from his handy haversack. Potion of Gaseous Form.

Hagnar spends a moment studying Badru's movements, seeing his weaknesses and how he leads to the left. He swiftly strikes with his +1 sword cane, taking advantage of his flanking position, the potion of heroism, and his study of this enemy...only to hit the wall of the tunnel!!

Shandor screams for healing, and creates an army of illusory doubles. Kyra fulfils the need, while Hagnar and Kress keep up the fight with the construct.
Hagnar hits only the wall, but Kress manages to punch the construct good. Badru retaliates by clawing at the brawler, and with two swipes, he manages to grab a hold of Kress, slowing moving to constrict him.

Enraged by the severe blow he's taken, Shandor revels in utter destruction. He takes a step backward to escape the creature's reach, then retrieves a brass dragon scale in his component pouch and breathes a column of fire as if he were a dragon himself!
Casting dragon's breath while using my staff of the master to apply dazing spell on the fly. Ref DC 22 halves the damage and negates the dazing effect. If he fails he's dazed for 4 rounds. 3 charges spent on staff.

Shandor "The Beast" |
The Sceanduir is dazed for four rounds since he failed his save against dragon's breath.
DM Kludde |
Well, hack away, then!
DM Kludde |
I'm calling combat over. The sceanduir either gets thoroughly hacked to pieces in those four rounds, or flees. You decide
Badru - apart from the large emerald that served as his soul focus - carried two wands (one of them is the wand he cast mirror image from) and a scroll of glitterdust.
A wand of make whole, only few charges are left.
There's a table in Badru's workshop that holds a small urn capped with the head of a sha (A jackal-like creature)
This is a canopic jar. It contains a heart.
Shandor "The Beast" |
We'll take the hacking option, thank you. I'm not keen on having a creature that almost managed to kill me in one spell run around the dungeon freely! ;)
Spellcraft (wand): 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 23
Spellcraft (urn): 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (4) + 13 = 17
"This wand allows to repair broken things, even if they are completely destroyed. It has its uses. As for the urn, I have no clue. Perhaps Saruna would know more about it? She's such a brilliant librarian and a great friend to us."
Before leaving, Shandor will make sure to pocket the large emerald.
Friends? Did I really say that?! This place must really get to my nerves...
Hagnar Grimstone |
After the combat is over, Hagnar examines the urn to see what it is.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 9 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + 9 + (5) = 20
"I'm not sure either, but Shandor has a good idea about asking Saruna. Let's see what else is down here, and where this hole leads first, though."
DM Kludde |
Saruna is delighted when the adventurers return hauling a canonic jar, she inspects is and examines the contents, which seems to have special meaning to her
What was taken is now returned, even though it will never fit back. Saruna seems to imply the heart inside was once here. Her earlier comment A tale of blood and gems these walls would tell. The sage asked for commitment of heart and soul; he left cold stone and a ragged hole. sound oddly literal now.
You seek the library below, but it was sealed long ago.
From the green sun of the slain foe, you must fashion the key.
Pray for the sun to be pure at the altar, then obtain the blessing of Isis from her servants at the portal. Saruna offers her spoken version of the notes on how to fashion a (flawed) sage jewel.
Shandor "The Beast" |
Shandor offers Badru's soul focus, eager to please the ancient librarian.
"Will you guide our prayers, please? I am not a religious man. Your expertise would be extremely valued." Cajoling and almost groveling, Shandor is indeed well-taken by the charm spell.
"I couldn't help but notice how skilled you are in archiving, as well as your profound knowledge of Ancient Osirion. You said you loathe yourself because of your undeath, but what if I gave you another purpose? Wouldn't that be a formidable opportunity to pursue? It so happens that I'm working with a collective of like-minded individuals called the Dark Archive, who strive in collecting artifacts and knowledge from the ancient world to study them and archive them far from ambitious people's -or reckless sages- reach. You would be a perfect fit among us, and we could give you a real purpose, far from the machinations of the Scarab Sages. How would you feel about joining us once our work here is done?"
Diplomacy (shameless Near-Human Resources relocation attempt): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
DM Kludde |
Pray in the dark below to clean the sun. Wrapped in paper I will read the roll.
Foe slain and heart pleased, the librarian of old joins the archives of new. Saruna agrees to the proposal.
Saruna leads an hour of riddled prayer, and even though her instructions are sometimes hard to follow, the gem emerges purified.
The glass guardians of Isis stand in a circle of time. Hold the sun up to them and receives Isis' blessing.
The blessing of Isis open the portal. Below is the lake beyond time! Below is the island of knowledge! Below is the sun of the vault! Below is the crystal beacon!
Saruna continues with her riddles, explaining that the library of the sages is a large extra dimensional space that can only be reached through teleportation, or through a portal below. Inside is the Sky Vault of Ra, she explains, as well as the Crystal Beacon
The Sky Vault is a 30-foot- diameter solar disk that gradually migrates across the cavern’s ceiling, shedding light much like the sun. In addition, the Sky Vault acts as an extradimensional space similar to a bag of holding, though its contents are accessible only through the careful manipulation of the Crystal Beacon.
The Crystal Beacon is a large crystal capable of manipulating the Sky Vault and its contents. One can command the beacon through a combination of light, words, and mental signals. The beacon is also capable of sensing the sage jewels, their locations, and their general conditions.
Shandor "The Beast" |
Shandor nods in gratefulness and takes his leave.
"So we have to show the purified gem to the glass guardians of Isis, and it will open the way to the Beacon? We'd better get started then."
DM Kludde |
I've revealed the map for the guardian's room, you would have glimpsed parts of it when you were exploring the caves
The circular room in the middle of the floor is scattered with pieces of mechanical monsters. Luminous glyphs cover the central pillar, providing dim illumination. As the party approaches, a warning shouts out from a magic mouth in Ancient Osirian: You are intruding, you ar not allowed to be here. Turn back or face the consequences.
These are pieces of Zelekhut warriors
The glass sentinel stands motionless, for now.
There is an ankh-like symbol emblazoned on the forehead of the glass golem - the symbol of Isis.

After the power from the guardian is transferred to the emerald, it becomes a (albeit flawed) sage jewel. Recognizing this power as a valid token to pass, the golems cease hostilities.

Sorry, Shandor's right - Oloch will use the remainder of his movement last round to flank with Kress, if that's okay.
Oloch utters a quick prayer to Gorum, causing his greatsword to burst into flames. He swings it at the wood golem with preternatural speed, attacking twice in the time it would normally take him to swing the massive blade once.
