"Well done, Pad. I believe we should prepare for your sphere to end and attempt to cast everything we can to remove the effect on the dragon. I have a wand of dispelling here, with a single charge left, which I can offer to one of you. I can also cast a stronger version of the spell myself. We could also attempt to break the spell with a simple spell of protection from evil, assuming the dragon is being held by an evil effect."

@Kludde: My plan is to cast greater dispel magic on the dragon the moment the sphere ends. This spell also works as remove curse if that would make a difference Caster level check: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (11) + 15 = 26

Pad's spectral hand tries to punch the shadowy form, but the first punch just dissipates in the air, unable to gather enough magical coherence to affect the demon. The second punch shakes the demon up quite thoroughly, though.

Nalshene flies into the room and casts a spell at the shadowy creature. The spell is strange in that when she casts it, it seems to coalesce from the shadowy stuff of the creature itself, but then becomes brightly-glowing chains, seemingly made of pure light!
Casting greater shadow conjuration mimicking a chains of light spell. DC 30 Reflex save to not be held in place by the chains. It also gets a DC 30 Will save to have the spell be 60% effective, which means percent, 1-40 fails: 1d100 ⇒ 21 that it would not be affected if it makes that save. This is kinda a strange case, even if the spell is effective, since it's undead so it's immune to paralysis... Anyway, I'll wait and see if it fails the checks before doing more actions for myself/Narshala/azata friend.

Combat Reflexes and Additional Attacks of Opportunity wrote:
If you have the Combat Reflexes feat, you can add your Dexterity modifier to the number of attacks of opportunity you can make in a round. This feat does not let you make more than one attack for a given opportunity, but if the same opponent provokes two attacks of opportunity from you, you could make two separate attacks of opportunity (since each one represents a different opportunity). Moving out of more than one square threatened by the same opponent in the same round doesn't count as more than one opportunity for that opponent. All these attacks are at your full normal attack bonus.

Thanks to the Celestial Template, I also ignore the cold damage, so I should only take 20 damage... although that is more than enough!

It's one of those things you won't use very often but when you do have it, it can be the difference between life and death. I've GM'd fights that were pretty nasty but could have been a lot easier if the caster only had an ectoplasmic rod and wasn't forced to use a magic missile wand the whole fight.

@Kludde: He has the celestial template from Planar Wild Shape.

Nalshene drops concentration on her illusion, as she feels that Jeb has attacking the shadow solidly in hand without its flanking. She then quickly casts two shadow evocation spells, the first mimicking a set of chains made of force (chains of perdition) and the second a simple blast of force (battering blast).

SR chains: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (19) + 15 = 34
SR blast: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (20) + 15 = 35
For chains of perdition (cast with a Tenebrous shadow evocation and also using up a bit of Dweomer's Essence to increase the DC), the shadow needs to make a Will save DC 37 to disbelieve. If it succeeds, the conjured chains will only be 20% effective. Then for the battering blast, it needs to make a DC 30 Will save (once) and a DC 30 Reflex save against any force balls that hit it. The Reflex save will save it from the bull rush attempt.
ranged touch attack with battering blast #1: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 force: 5d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 6, 5, 3) = 18
ranged touch attack 2: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27 force: 5d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 1, 6, 2) = 16 bull rush 2: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (16) + 18 = 34
ranged touch attack 3: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10 force: 5d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 6, 1, 5) = 19

The chains that are summoned next to the shadow try to wrap it up in a neat little shadowy package.
dirty trick (entangle): 1d20 + 26 ⇒ (2) + 26 = 28

Okay, so in summary: I'm dropping concentration on the illusion on my turn, though Jeb still benefits from it this turn since I go after him. I beat the shadow's SR with both spells, it needs to make a Will save against each, one DC 37 and one DC 30, then it needs to make one Ref save against the second ball of force, and is subject to a bull rush with a check of 34 against its CMD if it fails that Ref save. Then it's hit with an Entangle dirty trick with a CMB check of 28.

The azata continues singing, and casts a sound burst spell at the shadow.
SR: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
sonic: 1d8 ⇒ 5 Grumble waste of a crit grumble.

@DM Kludde: *nods* as Nalshene says, it is from Planar Wild Shape. That is the reason that Jeb has been running around with maximum ranks in Knowledge(Planes), despite it normally being an odd choice for a druid ;-)

Quite heavily wounded, and knowing that he can't really afford to be attacked again, Jebediah goes for broke.

Teethering on the brink of collapse, Jebediah sees the demon battered by Nalshene's force spells, before he himself launches another assault. Between the two barrages, the demon collapses, and fades into a mist of blackness.

Combat over

The dragon speaks solemnly I cannot thank you enough for freeing me from that demon's curse! I'm not sure what plans he had, but he intended to use me as some sort of sacrifice.

I fear that the passages deeper are too narrow for my frame, and I would only hold you up. Let me be of service to you, though, and clear the jungle of the minions of whatever dark force houses here.

WIth that, the dragon leaves through the opening in the building. The azata looks at the party and says the dragon is weakened, and he may need my support. I'll join him, and return once I know he is safe. You go on and stop whoever is responsible for this.

beyond the large hall, the tunnels continue, until they reach another drop deeper into the glass column.

If you go down:

At the bottom, a five-foot-wide ledge follows the wall of a tall, cylindrical room, and connects four identical iron archways. In the open arches of these passages are carved the images of shackled angels. A ten-foot-wide catwalk extends from the wall into the center of the room, ending directly below a ten-foot diameter hole in the high, domed ceiling. A ring of rune-etched iron is embedded in the edge of the encircling ledge, and is completely legible from the end of the catwalk.

Abyssal words etched into the cold iron edge of the encircling ledge read: “Lay your hands upon me. Suffer at my command. Your Supplications earn my favor, and bring glory to the Shadow.”

The place looks like a maze - corridors run off in four direction. There's a bit of a draft coming from the east, along with something of a brimstone smell. From the west and north, a slight bit of humidity can be felt, while the air to the south seems stale.

To the east, the corridor turns around a corner and descends after a few steps. Four alcoves ank the end of this corridor, which terminates in a ten-foot-wide hole plummeting down and out of sight. Within the alcoves, four winged creatures have just completed their preparations, and surrounded by illusory doubles, they await the arrival of the group.
