Kellan starts running directly away from him, taking the withdraw action.
DM Kludde |
Kellan drops her sword in a panic, while Zen'yr, still unseen, manages to resist the effect. Klarkosh looks on approvingly as he sees the electrified blade drop. Careful now, you might hurt someone with that.
He then turns to Vayu and says Now, it seems it's just you and me.

Seeing that the wand is now useless for the rest of the day, she stares a look of death at Klarkosh. Her burning anger causes her to become visible. She doesn't care, seeing as this is life and death. She cats a spell, and with fervor and conviction,

Vayu shoots first, emptying barrel after barrel, barely holding onto the firearm as it moves ever more erratically. He only manages to land a single shot, which hits the wizard in the chest. He still seems to have some kind of protection up, as it only seems to cause a crackling in a stony skin.
Zen'yr has no choice but to fire off her spell, turning visible as she does so. Already blinded by the smoke of Vayu's barrels, the spell seems to have no further effect.
Will: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Kellan, you're running away, panicked. Can you tell me where you're going? It might be relevant as there is still that stinking cloud up :/

He then turns to Vayu Well, I guess I'll have to return fire now

@Zen'yr: We should probably ask Vayu to use the wands while outside of combat, 'cause he doesn't risk rolling a 1 with CLW wands. He can your wand to heal you, mine to heal me, etc. When we continue exploring, let's switch wands for today. During combat, just use mine whenever you want.
Ilya opens her eyes again and looks around. She spots Zen'yr with the healing wand, and Klarkosh on the floor nearby.
"Zen'yr, could you give me another tap with that?" Ilya asks weakly. "I'll go down again if I attack right now."
Delaying. Currently disabled, and hoping Zen'yr can get me to positive HP before I take any other actions.
Redke's turn:
Redke continues to attack Klarkosh by blasting all the loose cogs in the room into the man's face.
Telekinetic Blast: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28 Damage: 3d6 + 12 ⇒ (4, 3, 1) + 12 = 20
Trip: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
DM Kludde |
And with a final blast, Redke knocks the man unconscious.
Combat over. Phew!
So... do you guys want to continue like this, or do you want to heal first ;-)
Zen'yr |
We survived the BBEG I think, right out the gate so that's a win in my book :)
Zen'yr will look to Vayu, I busted my damn wand, could you be a dear and heal us. We have fared better I would imagine.
Ilya Akyll |
Ilya gets back on her feet. "If you could heal me as well, Vayu, I'd appreciate it."
She gives her own wand to Vayu and lets him heal her.
Rolling for him, to move things along:
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 Exactly 43 HP!
"Thank you," Ilya says as she takes back her wand.
When Zen'yr explains to Ilya why she was using Ilya's wand instead of her own, Ilya hands her wand back to Zen'yr. "If you could lend me yours when you're all healed up, we've both got a wand we can use."
Ilya moves over to Klaskosh and stamps on his neck.

As Klarkosh lies gurgling on the floor, Ilya steps on the man's neck, until a dry snap indicates the bones giving way.
So much for interrogating him over the missing wizards
The filthy reek now gone from the workshop, and every back to his or her senses, the adventurers heal up. what further dangers would await them this level?
Kellan Demonbane |
"Oh... was that necessary, Ilya? I mean, he was an ass, but... jeesh."
Ilya Akyll |
"Would you have liked him to come after us when he'd regain consciousness?" Ilya asks Kellan.
"I eliminated a threat that would certainly bear a grudge if we'd leave him be."
Zen'yr |
We were sent to find some missing wizards. What if he knew about them? Oh well, can't fix what has been done I suppose. So, where to next?

DM Kludde |
Klarkosh has a potion of him, as well as a wand, a belt, a cloak, one of those strange green tokens, and a journal. The journal elaborates on the green spire, and explains that the tokens can be used to transport oneself to any layer of the dungeon, provided that the bearer knows and speaks the appropriate Azlanti numbered rune. Also written here are the runes for 'one' and 'six'.
A bit further down are some grumbling notes about a 'serpentfolk sect' further down, and some 'fiendish presence' invading his halls.
The rest of it is megalomaniac nonsense on the greatness of his mechanical creations and augmentations.
Kellan Demonbane |
Kellan would specifically like to see if any of his mechanical creations are currently usable.
Percep: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
DM Kludde |
The only creation that was working was the one Ilya so quickly tore to pieces.
Kellan Demonbane |
Well then, let's check out the rest of this floor!
Kellan moves back to the previous room and listens at the other door.
Percep: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
If she hears nothing, she waits for the others to catch up with her, then opens the door.
DM Kludde |
There's no sound coming from behind the door, and it opens up to a long, twisting corridor.
Ilya Akyll |
Ilya walks into the twisting corridor and up to the first door she spots. She puts her ear against the door and listens.
Perception, listening at door: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
If Ilya hears nothing, she'll open the door as soon as her allies have gathered. If she hears something, she will relay the information to the others.
DM Kludde |
The door is locked, but no sound is coming from the other end. Klarkosh had some keys on him, and one of them opens the door. Rows of iron bars anchored in the floor and ceiling divide the room beyond it into three smaller cells.
Two of the cells are empty, but a gaunt, black-haired man
in the tattered robes of a mage lies on a simple straw pallet in
the southern cell.
He's unconscious, severely beaten. A DC 10 Heal check should be sufficient to bring him about
Ilya Akyll |
"Hey, this may be one of the wizard we're looking for," Ilya thinks out loud as she walks up to the black-haired man.
Heal: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Ilya tears off a piece of the man's tattered robe and wets it with the water from his waterskin. She uses it to clean the man's face and the worst of his wounds, while softly talking to him in an attempt to wake him up. "Hey, can you hear me? My name's Ilya, what's yours?"
DM Kludde |
“My name is Jharun, and I am a wizard of the Goldenfire Order in Thornkeep. My colleague Tiawask and I came to the Emerald Spire two weeks ago—perhaps three or four weeks by now—to explore the dungeons. Unfortunately, we were defeated by a brass minotaur and dragged before its master, a Numerian wizard named Klarkosh.
He accused us of spying on him and threw us in these cells, but Tiawask escaped—she’d managed to conceal a potion of gaseous form in her boot. She promised to go get help, but that was days and days ago, and she hasn’t returned. I don’t know if she even made it all the way out.
Ilya Akyll |
"We took care of Klarkosh, he won't ever bother anyone again. Is there any info that could be useful to find Tiawask? We'll look for her, but you can't stay here. Can you get up, or do you need some help?"
DM Kludde |
I.. I can try, the man says, and he tries to get on his feet, staggering. With a bony hand he holds onto the wall, weak and malnourished as he is, and lets out a dry rattling cough from the exertion.
We only went as far as a lever, that we pulled down, and which opened a passage to a room with a minotaur. It defeated us, nearly killed us, and we were put in this cell. I don't know where Tiawask went, I think she fled deeper into the dungeon.
Ilya Akyll |
"It's probably best if we get you out first."
Ilya takes her waterskin and offers it to the man. "Here, drink some. We'll then guide you out."
She looks at her allies. "Agreed?"
DM Kludde |
Thank you, I'm glad to leave this awful place. That wizard... he would probably have turned me in to one of those abominations. And Tiawask. Will you keep a lookout for her? I hope nothing bad has happened to her, I would not be able to forgive myself. She always was the crafty one, though. If only I had had her talent...
Leading the man out of the dungeon is trivial once he is back on his feed, and properly hydrated.
Zen'yr |
Presuming that you are signaling a "handwave" of escorting him out[/ooc[
After he is safe, where to. Should we try to cleanse this foul place of all mechanical abomination created by Klarkosh?
[ooc]I understand we lost Redke, but does he go "poof" now or at the end of the level? He is a heavy hitter, and it will be be tough going from here on out, in theory if I am correct. Do we get to bot him for the remaining for the level?
DM Kludde |
Redke is no longer being controlled. It would be like a player leaving early, so the PC is no longer available for combat. If the player returns, we can drop him back in, but for now, let's assume that he escorted Jharun out.
Redke volunteers to escort Jharun out of the dungeon, leaving the other four to ponder the location of the wizard's spellbook. It wasn't on the guy when he died.
Kellan Demonbane |
"Indeed, I'm sure I could learn a thing or two from his spellbook if we found it. Let's keep exploring."
It looks like there are a few rooms down the hallway we haven't checked out yet. Let's look at those and then go back and try out the other lever.
DM Kludde |
The next room is a bathroom. The walls of this small room are covered in ancient tiles of gold, green, and blue, although many are cracked, chipped, or missing.
A shallow pool of clear water fills the southern half of the chamber, steaming with warmth. Robes and towels hang on pegs by the door, and a tin bucket on the floor is filled with blocks of dark clay.
The block of clay are darkfire clay, and there's about twenty blocks of them, producing quite a bit of heat.
The only other door in this corridor is at its very end.
Kellan Demonbane |
"Oh... this looks simply luxurious! Once we've explored this whole floor, we should really come in here and relax a bit, don't you think?"
