It certainly seems that encounters are decided fairly quickly ... I had been expecting them to go several rounds with enough time to buff up ... doesn't seem like that works as well as I thought it would :-(

I've probably mentioned it before, but Thistle is my trailblazer for high levels. I have a level 9 Ninja in PFS, but Thistle has always been 1 step ahead of him. Both Thistle and Cyrus have completely blown away my previous high level toons in any gaming system.

I've briefly played high level characters, but usually in one shots. The highest I can remember actually playing for a decent amount of time was level 14 and then he got teleported into the center of an active volcanic vent by a dragon god....that was that.

I've run at mid/high levels plenty of time, and I find that past level 10ish I kinda hate Pathfinder RPG. It turns into a giant game of rocket tag where death means nothing and the PCs either completely dominate or have no chance. Much less fun than levels 3-8ish if you ask me. However, I will stick it out with this group because I want to conquer the spire!

I can't remember if this is my 4th or 5th character to hit 10th level in PFS, but your characters flaws are definitely more apparent at the higher levels. I have a cleric of Gorum that has died 2 1/2 times already.

This is probably the highest I've played since I was a kid messing around with friends and making super high-level encounters for us to play.

Personally, I'm having a blast at the higher level, and really enjoy seeing enemies you haven't seen a hundred times. Though it can certainly be deadly, we have seen. We were on a roll for a while, and now we've had a stint of a death per level.

Still, equipment can help compensate for character weaknesses. I'm sure we can brainstorm about stuff Jelani might use to stay alive after we finish here. Because we certainly need him in the action. When he hits, it's lights out!

The character I got to 14 was back in Living City days. If I'm remembering right, he died at least three times and once permanently lost an arm which he eventually had regrown.

Going to try not to clog up the gameplay thread to much.

So Thistle has a couple of options here. I could channel positive energy and hopefully take out all the little minions there, not to mention getting close enough to the BBEG to give him negatives via the archon's aura.

Although Bruce just took a monster hit, and so at least in the short term it might be best for me to just make sure he doesn't dip to low in HP.

That is a long post with the buffs... I tried to make it easier for everyone to see what affects them, and for how long.

One note, It looks like everyone has a ring of protection +1. Shield of Faith gives a +3 deflection bonus. Since those don't stack, you all get a net gain of +2 to deflection AC.

And so I don't forget this time...

Day Job, Diplomacy w/ Land Rush bonuses: 1d20 + 19 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 19 + 5 = 34 + extra 50% due to Booming Settlement on land rush

Ok, so first I wanted to mention that communal resist fire says it is a 1 standard action casting time, but the target is "creature touched", which kind of breaks my mind in the middle of a combat. Not sure what the ruling is, or if Fellgrim and Bruce need to touch me in order to get the resistance.

Secondly, Fellgrim has a pretty good point about falling back to the door. There is a lot of enemies, and we need to guard ourselves. The problem is the source. This is a tough problem to solve. The lich is the head of the snake, so he is who we really need to get to. Do we need to clear out these minions first? Should we hit the mirrors or just go after the Lich?

ALso, I picked fire resist because the minions are all immune to fire. If I was the lich, I would cast a fireball, not hurt my minions but obliterate everything else.

We are in a pretty tough spot right here, we need to do something to start taking out these minions en masse or we are in big trouble...

Does sundering an object (mirror) break either sanctuary or invisibility?

It shouldn't, if you read the invisibility spell description it talks about that kind of thing.

Throwing a chandelier at an enemy would break invisibility, but cutting the rope that holds it so it falls on an enemy does not break it. Attacking a mirror should be safe.

Thistle...one alternative to protecting us against what THEY might cast is to protect our party from something *I* will cast.

I know you have already posted, but if we could do a little free-action communication here, I could ask you to protect against the dragon's breath I could cast that would hit a lot of these guys.

I could do a 30' cone of acid, for example, and do 9d6 dmg to all these guys.

Ok, posted that retro change. The only other thing I am concerned about is the "creature touched" part. I am pretty sure that means I won't be able to hit Bruce, and I'm not sure if that means Fellgrim can still benefit if he moves close enough to touch me and receive the spell.

Also not sure if we want to get that detailed with it, but wanted to mention it.

I’m guessing that the warriors will keep coming as long as there are mirrors, and also that the green field protecting the lich will also dissapear when the mirrors are gone.

Hey guys...let's coordinate a bit here. Our lives depend on it.

We need a fight or flight plan, and we need to be on the same page.

So first, let's all say whether you think we should fight or run.

If we fight, we need to take out more of these warriors, I think, rather than trying to kill all the mirrors first. There are way too many warriors, and way too many mirrors, for us to kill all the mirrors first.

If we run, I can do dispel magic to try to get Jelani back away, and then we could try to all get outside the door and hold them off and try to reset the encounter.

Thoughts?

We could try falling back. I could also try going invisible to attack from the flank or work on the mirrors. Not sure of any hope of resetting the encounter though. I get the feeling the warriors are going to keep coming.

Falling back to try to thin the herd first is ok by me, but we have to figure out how to get past that wall or this is going to be perpetual...

I think messing with the mirrors might be folly, we can't handle to many more will saves like that...

Okay, no more mirrors for a bit. Any more down and we're goners for sure. Well, it seems like any time he does the mirror it takes his action and he gets another 3-4 guys. If we were actually attacking I think we could get that many per turn to keep things even or maybe get ahead. Maybe we could get toward the door (the lich is in a force cage and may not follow us?). We could thin them out and/or retreat from the dungeon to reset. Maybe if/when we reset, we have just Bruce go in invisible smashing mirrors while the rest of us kill warriors?

Assuming we survive this, I need a couple things. One thing is dispel magic - for in combat situations. I should be the one casting it so Caranthir doesn't have to waste his damage output for something like that.

The second thing is a spell that does damage. In early levels 1d8+4 wasn't to shabby. In these levels, I might as well just pull my pants down and wave for all the good that will do. Having the ability to do some area-affect damage would be incredibly useful right now...

Hopefully they do... At least Fellgrim is being ignored because he is invisible.

I am still holding out hope that I can drag Jelani through the door, but with as many enemies as are there, I'm not sure we can.

Just had a thought. Next turn, assuming we can, I will delay for you. You try to clear the path for me, then I will step into the doorway so you can move through my square and get to relative safety.

I used my move action to heal myself with energy body, but I technically still have a 5' adjustment left. It would really be stretching things to blend our turns, but if you killed the blue outlined warrior I could 5' step into that space - though technically it would mean that you wouldn't have delayed for me.

I hadn't planned to delay for you since you couldn't do anything to clear out the enemies where I was shooting. I decided to eat the AoOs so I could deal more damage.

I'm hoping I cleared a couple out, including the one that would let you use your 5' step.

We'll see. If I didn't go down, I should be able to make it to the door.

Is whatever made Jelani and Fellgrim fall asleep part of the wall? What if we covered it back up? That seems to simple a solution though... Probably not worth the action economy. We don't seem to be gaining ground necessarily, but at least we aren't losing it anymore.

Assuming my HP holds Caranthir, maybe you can target the archers next, now that you have some breathing room to fire. Up to you though, just throwing it out there for thought. :)

I think the symbol is behind the mirrors. Not sure what we would cover them up with, since we shattered the glass. It appears they can be disabled with disable device, though...

I could target the arches, though it seems we have cover from each other now.
