Why yes, I have! In his best Brave and the Bold Aquaman voice he recounts The Adventure of the Critical Confirmation!!

Dangerous knowledge, but I suppose you know what you're doing, he says, I heard the Arcaminiarum has developed powerful wards against divine evil. That's what they told me, I've got good contacts there.

You've made some important acquaintances in the Wisp, so don't hesitate to call on them later!

The colleague of the barman arrives, and the lady herself winks to Gustav that she has time to escort the group into the cellar now.

Or you may finish your conversations...

Abaal drops the mic and leaves to join his companions.

"Not recently," Nikolai says, addressing Abaal as much as the two half orcs at the table. "Most of the fighting I've been doing recently has been training at the Grand Lodge. Though I earned my scraps back in Kaer Maga. Busted a few heads, broke a few knees, that sort of thing. Weird place, Kaer Maga. When troll augurs are a thing in your town that nobody bats an eye at, you know you're in a weird place. There was this one young pup, Brig Lyto. He and I never got along from minute one. We fought like crazed firepelts, any chance we got, and each battle escalated from the last. First time we fought, the left side of my face was swollen and red for a week. Time after that, I caught him good, sliced off half his ear with a razor I'd hidden. And it went like that for awhile, up until our last fight." Nikolai pauses, taking a long quaff of his cheap beer. "I was the one that walked away from that one."

"Of course, he was connected. His grandpappy or some scat was some bigwig in the Sczarni. When I realized he wasn't getting back up, I left the City of Strangers. The Varisians are wanderers born, so I figured it was time to live up to the stereotype. Walked down the Storval Stairs, and never looked back. Found myself here in Absalom a year or two later, and apprenticed with the Pathfinders. And then I found myself in an inn talking with some Keleshite and a pair of half orcs, drinking beer and carousing. But that's a different story."

Nikolai notes that the rest of his companions are leaving, so he flags down the wench and pays for his drink. "And another round for my new friends," he says, adding a few silvers more to her palm.

Heryn escort the adventurers down into the basement. The basement of the Wounded Wisp is a stonework affair, and Heryn explains that it has had its foundation strengthened following a significant donation by a Society member (Selmius Foster’s assistant Adolphus) only to suffer damage during the quake of 4698.

A set of wooden stairs descends from the main floor into this tightly packed storeroom. Barrels, boxes, and crates of assorted foodstuffs and drink garnishes are pushed against the walls or under the stairs.

A door leads to the next room. Formerly a meeting room where the staff of the Wounded Wisp could converse or take time off between shifts, this chamber suffered significant damage during the earthquake of 4698 ar. Several fissures split the floor, leading down to an equally damaged section of the city’s sewer system. We had that plank - eh - installed after the quake. You'll have to be very careful, if you move too fast it might break and dump you into the pit below.

You can move at quarter speed past the plank. If you have disable device, you can try to reinforce it, removing the threat

Finally, the last room holds the wine cellar, where Heryn points out Dreng's vintage wine. As soon as one of the party grabs the bottle, a panel slide away, revealing a room beyond.

A sturdy silver chain jutting from the ceiling ends in a glowing orb that radiates yellow light across the rectangular room. A simple desk of polished wood, stacked with documents and scattered notes, shelters a pair of wooden chests against the south wall. A series of cracks along the eastern and western walls form makeshift entrances into exposed caverns.

"If he wants us to keep getting him bottles of wine, he should commission someone in the society to fix that." he states as he keeps his rifle holstered, seeing no reason to draw it out.

He's got no interest in this as he, as I'm sure other characters feel, are above doing fetch quests :)

Gustav steps in to investigate. The desk contains a lot of scribbled paper of which the text is still readable. Drawn to hidden knowledge like a moth to flame, Gustav cannot contain his curiosity and walks into the dark office. Not expecting an ambush in so friendly a place as the Wounded Wisp, Gustav realizes that he didn't even have a hand on his weapon.

Blast! He swears and backs himself into a corner, drawing an old Vudran service-kukri. A wicked grin presents itself from under the occultist's bushy mustache as he looks at the undead monsters and reaches out to the darkness, calling to his bound spirit.

As a standard action, you can expend 1 point from your mental focus to raise a single basic human skeleton (Bestiary 250) or a human zombie (Bestiary 288) from the ground to serve you for 10 minutes per occultist level you possess or until it is destroyed, if you are within medium range (100 feet + 10 feet/level) you can spend 1 point of mental focus as an immediate action to cause the servant to return to full hit points.

Note that this ability does not specify a range. For the sake of fairness, I assume that the skeleton or zombie can only be raised in an adjacent square.

Gustav:

The creature is a festrog, sometimes called a dog-ghoul. You get two questions

I don't have the playtest doc on me, but doesn't this require a corpse of some sort? The below is based on the assumption that it doesn't.

Gustav acts quickly, and summons a minion, which proceeds to tear the nearest festrog apart. A rain of pus from ruptured boils splatters on the skeleton, who doesn't mind.

DM Kludde, I think that in the final product, Necromantic Servant will just act as raise dead, but the playtest ability indicates that the servant is raised from the ground.

As for festrog questions, special attacks and defenses (in that order) are Gustav's go-to questions.

Watch out, Pathfinders! These are festrogs, fearsome ghoul-dogs!

Gustav:

A festrog is an undead creature covered in boils, which will rupture when hit and propagate disease. It may perform a charging trip, and it can feed on its opponents, causing it to gain some temporary health.

Droogami attacks the undead, but misses only by the slightest of margins.

I don't think soft-paw can act before his master, so I've removed the boldface.

Combat over!

With the threat gone, the pathfinders now have the time to investigate the documents. The papers chronicle the personal exploits of one Selmius Foster, a name that most Pathfinders recognise as a famous member of the Society. Most of Foster’s more infamous adventures appear here in varying amounts of detail, but it is evident there is another investigation he had been pursuing before he died: the lost records of a Society agent named Eylysia.(The notes are on the Map page.) Furthermore, someone called 'Adolphus' made additional notes.

By the time party gets back to where they met Dreng, he is no longer there. A different beggar has taken his place, and bares a row of rotten teeth as he grins and says Your beggar is in another Lodge, gentlemen.

At the Grand Lodge, Dreng's clothes seem to have dried. 4331 Merfandel! he exclaims. Selmius' favourite wine! Of course!.

You should investigat these notes - after all, it is your find, and we should respect that. This exciting mystery is yours to pursue!

In the meantime, you can hand me any documents not related to Eylysia, Dreng says so that I can begin assigning other agents to decrypt and collate the contents for proper study.

Tell me where you want to head first.

Let us begin with the closest lead. If I'm not mistaken, the Wall of Names is just outside. Why don't we have a look?

Created in 4330 ar, the Wall of Names resides on the grounds of the Grand Lodge in Absalom. The monument is a curving wall of black glass that stands atop a small hill at the western edge of the lodge’s grounds. Trees surround the hill, providing ample shade and privacy for those visiting the wall to remember fallen comrades. Carved into the wall are the name and date of death of every Pathfinder killed in the course of duty since the wall’s construction, and most entries also include a sentence or two summarizing either the agent’s greatest accomplishments or how she died.

Miette Thermogauge

Malena Antonescu

Otiophon

The three names in Adolphus' notes are also here (See handout, below Dreng)

Abaal seems most interested in the penmanship of the engravings and their overall design (pagination, tilt, spacing, spelling errors, etc...). He occasionally whistles with any nearby song birds and kicks small stones laying in his path.

The epitaphs do not seem to correspond to these people, but rather to aspirants that failed the test of the starstone, the sacred test that allow one to ascend into godhood.

Well, my friends, these epitaphs don't seem to correspond to these people, but rather to aspirants that failed the test of the starstone.

Ah, the test of the Starstone. Earlier today, the Wounded Wisp was abuzz with it: apparently, Sir Reinhart of Kenabres, a Mendevian crusader who recently arrived from the north, plans on attempting the Test soon.

Where do you want to move next?

"Riddle games were never my wheelhouse," Nikolai says with a frown. "But even I see those underlines. 'Rot,' 'blade,' and 'silence and serenity.' No idea what those mean, though. So, it sounds like we have two leads to follow. The first is this stonemason's tomb, while the second is the Arcanamirium and this Fimbrik. Since they're both long dead by now, probably doesn't matter which one we check out first." He reaches into his belt pouch and pulls out a well-worn copper. "Heads is the tomb; tails is the mages."

Coin Flip: 1d2 ⇒ 2

"Guess I vote for checking out the mages."

Frimbrik's place is a small house on the campus of the Arcanamirium. A brick step leads to Fimbrik’s front entrance, which is locked with a rusty simple lock. Through the window, the party can see an elderly gnome garbed in noble attire with a dapper rounded hat on his head and a cane tipped with a brilliant glowing gem in his hand. He's just entering the chamber, and slowly moves to a chair to sit down and read a newspaper.

Gustav raps on the gnome's door and waits patiently.
