Aleks notices that Kafar's sash doubles as a secret storage container, which contains several documents written in a secret Aspis cypher.

Kafar is wearing a mithral shirt (magical), he wielded a magical sickle, a magical cloak, magical ring, he has an alchemist's formula book on him, some doses of poison, while Nefti has a set of magical leather armor, a magical sap, and a similar magical cloak and ring.

Stripping the Aspis agents of anything dangerous, and sending them on their way, the adventurers finally have some time to enjoy a waffle. The next morning, Amenopheus guides the adventurers to the end of the canyon. He casts a spell, and a large complex becomes apparent in the cliff's face, no longer hidden by the illusion that shielded it.

Behind the seamless illusion of a rock wall lies the mountain pass to the Sanctum of the Sages. Beautifully engraved columns support the ornate entablature topped by a wide tapered cornice. The style hearkens back to Osirion’s golden age, and the impeccable design and craftsmanship lives up to the standards set by the ancient dynasties. A short flight of stairs ascends to stone door in the mountain.

Inside, water gurgles in fountains set at either end of a crescent-shaped chamber. Fourteen columns support thevaulted ceiling, and the walls are polished to a smooth finish that reflects and scatters the light of the group's wayfinders.

Amenopheus leads the group deeper into the sanctum. The next chamber’s floor angles upward as it meets the walls, which in turn angle inward like those of a pyramid, creating a space shaped like a cut diamond. The walls are smooth and somewhat transparent, like foggy quartz, save for where three opaque doors stand to the north, east, and west. In the center of the room, a clear 5-foot diameter crystal hovers a short distances from the floor and spins slowly.

The adventurers feel an empathic connection, courtesy of some ancient magic being at work. This crystal is a gate-keeper, Amenopheus says, it will only allow sages to enter the sanctum.

He steps up and says I am the Sapphire Sage and I seek the Diamond Sage. The crystal briefly shows an image of a Garundi man walking toward the north door in the room, then a small, keyshaped sliver breaks off of the crystal. Amenopheus nods, picks up the key, and says The north door will lead you onward.

Alek stares around the Sanctum with unabashed awe, his mouth hanging open much of the time as he looks around. He had never seen anywhere so beautiful before. Olga's flirtations draw him from his trance-like admiration and blushes as he looks decidedly uncomfortable with Olga's words. "Uhh... yes, it is quite beautiful." He clears his throat and decides to direct his attention elsewhere....

"Amenopheus, who built this place? And when? And to what purpose exactly? I have never seen anywhere so beautiful that was made by the hands of men."

As the pathfinders approach the guardian stone, it hums, then shows the ruby jewel, as if acknowledging the party as the representatives of the jewel sage. They too, are allowed to pass.

A long corridor follows, winding down to reach a great hall.

Two curved ramps ascend gently from one end of this semicircular room toward its northwest entrance. More than a dozen statues line the intricately painted walls, and all face toward an immense crystal that projects from the southeast wall. The statues are carved in the Osiran fashion, some bearing the heads of animals, and many holding objects like staves, ankhs, oil lamps, and scepters in their supple marble hands. Four engravings in the likeness of gemstones are set into shallow circular recesses in the floor arrayed before the huge jewel.

Amenopheus steps up to open the huge door at the other end, upon which the door flashes with blinding light.

When the light fades, Amenopheus is trapped within a crystalline prism like an insect sealed in amber, and the four oil lamps held by the statues have lit with bright white light. At the same time, a spoken message in Ancient Osiriani echoes through the room: “As the light aligns, so too do the sages stand.”

The two statues at the end of the room turn to life each activating magical energies

Asking this now so I don't forget... Do the gemstone statues on the floor have any likeness to the statues around the room? Alek will look into that once combat is over.

Alek watches with obvious interest as the scene plays out, diverting his eyes from the blinding flash. He looks back and sees the VC sealed within the crystal. "That's not good." He looks around as the voice echoes throughout the room. "Anyone know what that said?" His answer would have to wait as the statues suddenly come to life. "Later perhaps!"

Olga tries to wrestle the statue, and only barely fails as she is slightly to eager to grab a hold of it. As she does so, Darvik strikes out, barely avoiding the Ulfen woman, but hitting the statue. Sparks fly, and a fragment of stone breaks off, though the hard statue is mostly unaffected.

Cinderpaw and Alek team up on the southern statue. Tinderpaw tries to bite the leg of the statue, but the quick ornament evades his teeth in time. It then goes on to avoid Alek's blow as well, unharmed by the assault.
