Now that 2nd edition is announced, I'm left to wonder: Is the 1st-edition PRD ever going to get an update to include all of the missing hardback volumes?
It'd be really bad form for Paizo to straight up abandon it and leave us all to rely on unreliable 3rd-party sources I think.

I think it would be a nice gesture to those resigned not to play 2nd edition to finish the PRD for 1st edition (i.e., add in the missing HC books), as well as fix the minor issues mentioned constructively in other threads.
I agree that it would be bad form to completely drop it (as far as 1st edition content goes).

Given that we have both the d20srd and Archives of Nethys, is the Paizo PRD really all that important any more?
I know people say its "official" but it seems to have at least as many bugs in it as the other two sites
Yes, technically. It's basically the resource document for PFS; if it's up there, you don't need to bring a book for it.

I somehow doubt PFS will continue supporting the current edition once PF2 is released.
We are all going to be given the choice between rerolling or no longer playing.

1) It is only a legal resource for the GM. Players are STILL supposed to bring their book. So Paizo just has to make sure to not release new scenarios that rely on material in books not up on the PRD
2) Putting things on the PRD has at least one downside. Suddenly it invalidates builds where a new book changed the rules. Right now, Paizo probably wants to avoid the extra Grah caused by that
3) Paizo has said that it WILL continue to support PF1 in PFS. No new material will be realeased after GenCon 2019 but otherwise support will continue.
What will happen at the local level is very much a question of debate. And will be sometime into 2020 at the least I'm sure.
But lets be realistic. In the huge amount of work that Paizo has on its plate quite a few things ARE going to slip and updating the PRD seems, to me at least, to be a lot of work for very little gain and therefore SHOULD be low priority (and low priority almost certainly means "will not happen").

Without new scenarios published each season, there is no support for continuing with PF1 in PFS.
Unless you meaning standing in the background and smiling counts as support. "Look, we left the old website up, that counts as support. Just don't count on any website maintenance, FAQs, Erratta, new content, campaign clarifications, etc."
