Dangerous ones - tribes from the underworld, strange visitors. He points to the east and west exits of the cave. I'm but a pilgrim here, I know no details, but it seems this place is becoming less safe. Some pilgrims never return. A sad tone is mixed in with the nasal voice.

As if responding to a child Baru says, "Ahhhhh, underworld-lings."

He turns his head to throw a snide remark to Ba'al, "Distant cousins of yours, perhaps Ba'al?"

"I would expect the Society to request we handle this threat. This is right up our celestial friends' alley. Perhaps I'll provide a more active roll this time."

Baru is referring to the previous amusement of watching Rod "bait" the swarm with his own blood.

"Shall we go..."

Baru points to the left passage with the tip of his tail

"...that way? Thank you for your cooperation friend."

Baru takes out a single coin. Flips it into the air. Waves a hand with a somatic motion and casts mage hand on the coin. Then guides the coin slowly to the diorama in the middle of the pool. Then proceeds toward the corridor.

As Baru arrives to the corridor, he stops and turns back to the rest of the party. He bows and swings both arms simultaniously around the air, ending with both arms outstretched to the side. Pointing down the tunnel, obviously ushering the party ahead of him.

After waiting a moment for a reply to his earlier question, which was ... "Gillman ... you have a name? I see your cloak is similar to this one. We found it at the bottom of a pit near the entrance, but there was no body, and no other equipment there ... just this cloak. It has a feint magic aura. Do you know its purpose or to whom it belongs?"

Ba'al mockingly curtsies to Bara, "Why thank you kind sir", he says in an attempt at a high-toned voice, but still coming out deeper than most human men. He then proceeds down the corridor with his journal in hand, resting it on his shoulder.

Rod nods, wading back out of the pool trying to disturb as little of the water as possible, before pulling out his papers and jotting down notes. "Whether to Aroden or the gillmen, this place is clearly sacred to someone. I think it would behoove us to drive out any evil so that this place can be preserved." he notes, following after the demons and angels.

The eastern passage leads into a tunnel with little airflow. As the tunnel makes a turn south, the air becomes mustier, and after a turn east, it becomes downright stale, turning into the smell of putrefaction and decay. The tunnel opens into a cave, littered with broken glass, pieces of paper and other unusable detritus. The body of a humanoid lies face-down in this cave.

This is the body of a dhampir, the living offspring of a vampire.

Ford reached back and pulled out his scythe, gripping it in both hands, but letting the stronger team members take the charge. They were far more capable in a battle than he would be right now. "Everyone! They're zombies, but they're also still gillmen and hopefully, they still retain those weaknesses! Let's try and use heat and fire to put them down faster!"

Baru's force missile hits the cave wall, when Aeris steps up and hits one of the zombies in the chest with an arrow. The missile makes a sickening sound as it penetrates the rotting flesh, only to pass through relatively harmlessly. It is only for the fine marksmanship that the zombie is hindered, a shot that would normally have taken out a grown man.

Rod prepares for battle and stands fast.

Frustrated, Ba'al get's to the position that used to be the bottom of the front line in the hopes that we can form a better defensive position.

Jessique, doesn't know what to do entirely. Nothing comes immediately to mind, then she comes up with a plan.

She starts casting a spell, and after a few sends and thin, slimy coating of grease covers the floor under the zombies. She hopes to stall them.

DC 16 reflex save or fall prone. Targeting the 2x2 square that has the 2 zombies and "aeris" icon. Creating a bottle necked area hopefully of greasy sludge

Rod frowns as Aeris is knocked out and Depravity drags him to safety. This wasn't going so well... Rod might have to jump into the fray and see what he can do.

Rod moved up closer, scythe gripped tightly as he attempted to guard the demon and angel spawn. Should the zombies inevitably come closer, Rod not only had the advantage of readiness, but the terrain; with the corridor getting tight, he could funnel the undead through one at a time. "Okay! If arrows won't work, let's try to lop off their limbs! If they can't stay together, they can't threaten us!"

Rod is taking a move action to try and stand at least 2 squares away from the zombies (which may be over Aeris' space, but since he's lying prone, that shouldn't be hard to occupy.) Also taking a readied attack action should the zombies come closer.

Readied Scythe Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

Now that Aeris is out safe, the adventurers form a battle line. One lone zombie manages to get through the greased area, while the other is standing up in a moan. It tries to move out of the area, but falls over again.

The third zombie manages to get through the greased area without falling.

Jessique, knowing her crossbow wont get through the enemies' tough skin, reaches in front of her and grabs the wand from her slightly demonic ally. After taking it, she will move to around the corner, away from the fighting, hoping to catch most of the zombies in the flaming crossfire on the next round.

Jessique moves backward, and turn around just in time to see Ba'al bash a zombie to pieces. Even though the bludgeoning tactic seems to be sub-optimal, Ba'al strength and accuracy more than makes up for that.

Aeris stirs, recovering his senses just enough to mumble, "Wha' happen'd?" He sees a fearsome tiefling standing over him and is startled, then realizes she has saved his life. "Thanks, thanks very much," he says, then reaches and takes the wand from her hand. He places it on his chest and activates it, feeling the healing energies knit him back together.

Should be able to do that with a single action and not fall unconscious again.

As Aeris regains his bearings, Baru hits the front zombie with a bolt of arcane energy.

Which leaves only Rod to act.

Ba'al's timing is perfect: as soon as the next zombie moves into range, Ba'al cleaves the putrid flesh of the ex-gillman, and leaves the corpse in pieces on the ground. The remaining zombie stands up, and continues its shambling move towards the pathfinders.

Rod drops the zombie to the floor as it advances, only to be smashed into a pulp by Ba'al. The next zombie stands up and shambles to the front line.

Aeris is fairly confident that his arrows will be unable to take down the remaining zombie. And he can just see his bow on the ground behind it, where he dropped it when he was knocked unconscious. In the spirit of helpfulness, he steps forward and taps Rod with a fingertip, giving him a touch of one of Calistria's gentler blessings.

Move one square NE, use bit of luck on Rod, letting him take higher of 2 d20 rolls when he next acts. (1/6 uses today)
