The prison door is locked, but there was a definite clanking sound of keys as the conjurer hit the floor.
Shel, did you mean this round already? Your character had the information, so I'll assume she acted upon it.
Shel finally manages to hurt one of the outsider creatures.
Aleister moves into the room at the end of the corridor. A single long, lonely stair reaches up from this room to the next floor. Near the center of the room stands a broad wooden table surrounded by several chairs. A wooden bucket, a set of brushes, and a canvas kit of some kind rest next to an iron ring affixed to the wall and threaded with a set of manacles. Two passageways lead away from this room, both lined with small wooden doors on either side.
The corridor north from this room leads to the sewer exit.
Jacques holds a defensive stance.
Indeed, the protection from evil prevents the daemons from attacking, but the protection is lost once you attack yourself.

I'a'e, ieah. Poor sod, this man's tongue has been cut out as well. He points back to where you found Jahani, and also towards the stairs. Meanwhile the daemons press on
The west most one breathes another cone of pure ice, engulfing Kyra and Jacques, and just barely missing Aleister
Damage: 6d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 2, 6, 2, 2) = 20 DC 15 for half
The other daemon continues biting and clawing at Shel
Bite: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
Claw: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 301d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Claw: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 241d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Confirmation: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 221d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 16 damage to Shel

We have already free Jahani. Kyra says pointing in that direction. Go join her and use the sewers for escape.
Turning to her party.
We need to deal with this daemons, lets focus on the one with Shel. I dont have a silver weapon so... Kyra channels positive energy to heal her allies.
Channel: 6d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 3, 5, 6, 6) = 27
Selective channel to exclude her enemies.
DM Kludde |
O'ay the man responds, then runs off in the direction Kyra was pointing (northward). The daemons, on the other hand, show no sign of abating, and the single slash that Shel contributes does not connect.

Any reason Shel and our initial liberated captive can't just leg it? Seems we can fight these things or sort of ignore them and take Kluddes hint that it is probably time to grab the captives and bail... we could also pick up Sophini while we are at it.
DM Kludde |
The captives can just leg it (and are currently in the process of doing so). There's no reason Shel couldn't withdraw, though she'd have to deal with getting past the Daemons' AoO's
Shel Whispertongue PFS |
So the demons were using breathweapons on the group earlier as I recall. Does that mean if Shel withdraws that they will continue those attacks, or was the breathweapon fired at Shel, and if she withdraws, they will leave the others alone as they haven't physically attack the demons? I'm a bit confused with all this, lol...
'Blackjack' Jaques |
At worst you eat one AoO which isn't that big a deal, just leg it Shel. my main weapon is silver, but I get the hint we should exit stage right :p
Blackjack will pick up the unconscious Sophini if possible and take her with the party...
DM Kludde |
The breath weapon was - uh - breathed by the left daemon, and only hit Jacques and Kyra. Each daemon basically just does what it pleases every round.
If Jacques and Aleister retreat, the daemons will probably go full attack on Shel (and surround her). If retreating is the plan, that's what I'll resolve (basically: eight more attack)
Is that the plan?
'Blackjack' Jaques |
The idea is to run away after Shel has booked it. Jacques will continue to keep up the charade of standing about making himself a possible target until Shel has the opportunity to run away - the Protection from Evil was clever, lets not throw away the advantage any further - worst case we carry Shel out in a moment
Merck's PFS PGC |
I would Iike to try to save one more captive at least, I think that there were 4 of them, right? Also unless Shel hit the second daemon it cant really attack her. We could focus on the one that she hit, kill it and explore a little more. Or if we run I have another prot from evil that I can cast on her.
'Blackjack' Jaques |
Do you have another Prot Evil? Might reset Shel if she then doesn't attack again. GM already hinted that we are under a pretty tight timer here, hence the idea to pull out. We might find that as we close the loop on the way out we find one more captive... worst case we rally in the sewer out and come back in once the daemons drop off
Shel Whispertongue PFS |
Sure, Shel is up for trying the Prot. From Evil route again. If that is ineffective, she will start her retreat.
Shel Whispertongue PFS |
Shel will again use the total defense action, waiting for Kyra's spell.
DM Kludde |
Jacques and Aleister keep standing in the way, hoping to buy Shel time to escape.
The daemons decide to team up on the halfling ranger, attacking her from both sides
Attack: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 10 + 2 = 271d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Attack: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 10 + 2 = 261d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Attack: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 10 + 2 = 311d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Attack: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 10 + 2 = 271d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Attack: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 10 + 2 = 19

You are right on the damage, DM.
If Shel tries to retreat, would she take one AoO from each? If so, that's her plan.
DM Kludde |
She'd take damage from each, but I believe Kyra intended to cast PfE, right? In that case, the monsters wouldn't be able to hit Shel (or Kyra, who still has the spell active). One of them still can use its breath weapon, though.
DM Kludde |
Okay then. You gotta touch for PfE, so I'm assuming Kyra moves up:
Kyra runs towards Shel, the daemons unable to touch her due to he protective ward, and extends the ward on Shel, who can now freely move out.
As soon as the protection is up, the party makes a break for it.
I'm not going to play out all the manoeuvring, the only thing that can and will really happen is another breath weapon attack:
As Kyra and Shel retreat, one of the daemons releases a final breath of cold:
Breath weapon: 6d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 6, 1, 3, 4) = 23 DC 15 RFX for half
The party legs it properly, quickly catching up with the two RIftwardens. Just as they hit the exit to the sewer, a party of Pure Legion enforcers makes its way down the stairs, finding only the rampaging daemons.
Congratulations, you've made it to the end of the scenario relatively unharmed. With he rescue of two of the three rift wardens and the demise of Sophini the conjurer, you've both fulfilled the primary and secondary success conditions of the scenario.
I'll post the aftermath later, but I'll first give you a chance to catch your breath in the sewer.
'Blackjack' Jaques |
Shel, if you botch the save I will extend you my re-roll! :p

"So, do any of you know how to regrow the tongue of a wizard? With all their power, it'd be awful, if we couldn't get their assistance," Shel whispers to the group.
DM Kludde |
Jahani mimes her gratefulness as the pathfinders leave the sewer. In the days following, after Jahani and Mikel returned home to recuperate, the pathfinders receive notice from venture captain Odo. Jahani has returned to her home, and set in motion several plans to stop the Blackfire Adepts from returning to Azir. he says. I received a letter from her - she was very impressed by your heroism and resourcefulness. I heard you put up quite the fight against the outsiders that the Blackfire Adepts summoned.
With the rescue of Jahani you have fulfilled the primary success condition, and by preventing Sophini from escaping and rescuing an additional rift warden, the secondary condition is fulfilled as well.
