[PFS]DM Elanmorin's #5-02 Wardstone Patrol

Game Master Rogar Valertis

All is NOT well in Mendev. The Worldwound is spewing demons out again and they are doing what they usually do: invading and eating people.
The Pathfinder's Society is committed to researching the past and uncovering long forgotten truths but when it comes to demonic invasions even Pathfinders sometimes have to take a stand...

"Aye, like my friend says, we are no vanguard; but some of us do represent a larger force, this here is Rogar, a servant of the Inheritor. Myself, a battle priest of Gorum, and if a priest of Our Lord in Iron is not looking for battle, he may as well serve the Drunken One!"

Rogar, what kind of wands do you want to use? Between a Cleric, Paladin and Bloodrager, chances are we might have the spell on a list.

On that note, if there is other means of mass healing, I might not knock back a pair of my potions =P

I say nothing, as my total respect for the good "Sir" is someplace lower than the lost Azlantian kingdom having watched him totally total given up his moral authority to lead and command.

Valentynne I am most impressed, you took many blows, but continued to stand and not only that, but remain disciplined. I have to admit, in my state of mind during battle, I don’t know that I would not have been able to do the same... Vrothum looks down in shame as he wipes off the blood and flesh from his hands and mouth, as his normal color begins to come back. Vrothum stays relatively quiet as they continue on their journey, partly because of shame and partly because of his Ill feelings towards Sir Illivan. What Rogar Says is true, we just came from an outpost inhabited by Vermleks, no thanks to Sir Illivan here, we managed to save the farmers and dispatch of those demons as well. How well have you faired? Have they managed to penetrate your defenses yet?
If anyone else needs healing just post your rolls so I know who and # of charges.

@Rogar: 1 use of lay on hands and 1 of smite evil. As for wands I'd like everyone to roll

"That's a pity but it's no surprise" Sir Morgan sighs as Valentynne speaks and Titus confirms his words in his own fashion.
"Well every able bodied and good hearted man capable of holding a sword is welcome" he then listens to Vrothum and a look of concern spreads on his features:"Vermleks? Those f*&~ers are wily and extremely dangerous. They can easily infiltarte the outpost now that... well, good to hear you sent them back to the Abyss! As for our status... as you can see we are in dire straits, there's no hiding that. The wreckage here is the result of last night's skirmish with enemy forces, but if you want to know more you'll have to speak with commander Wardroxan".
Then the warrior approaches the closed drawbridge, and calls up to its defenders. A moment later a soldier peers over a battlement and quietly stares at the party.

Does any of you have evil aligned objects, familiars or the like? Assuming no one does...

The garrison lowers the drawbridge and raises a heavy portcullis studded with cold iron spikes, after which a handful of soldiers lead you through a narrow zigzag tunnel to the central courtyard. The fort’s central building sits squat in its center, an impressive, monolithic edifice with few openings. A number of young stable boys come out from a side building to care for your mounts, quartering them in the stables until you get back. You are then led into the central building to meet Commander Manaria Wardroxan, a charismatic young nobleman with pale skin and black hair who is dressed in a mud-spattered uniform that hasn’t been changed since the last battle. From her visage it's clear she's taldan, and waits for you while standing at the bottom of a tall, amphitheater-like chamber carved into the bedrock the fort is built upon, she worriedly regards the fort’s wardstone, a massive menhir 30 feet high that pulses slowly with dull purple light and emits a low buzzing sound, but her concerns are overshadowed by the last night’s demonic attack.

Commander Wardroxan relates the previous night’s events with obvious regret. “The demons attacked in the dead of night, a mixed group of dretches and schirs led by a terrifying brimorak, a creature of horn, claw, and fire. The wardstone had been buzzing like it is now, and it didn’t seem to stop them. They captured a scout patrol alive and staked them out on the ground in front of the fort. There they tortured them close enough for us to hear. I am ashamed to say that we deliberated on whether we had the strength to retaliate, but as the screaming and begging continued, I sent our cavalry to put at end to the suffering.”
She sighs heavily before continuing, “Of course it was a trap. A group of schirs wielding halberds met our cavalry and wasted no time in dragging them from their horses. The dretches then overwhelmed them with sheer numbers, clubbing them into submission. They slaughtered the horses and dragged off the soldiers while we looked on helplessly from behind the fort’s wall. I sent out another party after that, but most of the demons had already withdrawn with our captured men.”
The captain shivers then approaches you, hope gleaming in her eyes:"I implore you... find our captive brethren and save their souls from the demon's clutches! The majority of the garrison had already been transferred to Nerosyan and other locations before last night’s attack, and I simply don’t have the reserves to send out on a rescue mission. I thought all hope was lost... but maybe Iomedae herself sent you in our moment of greatest need!"

This is a good moment to ask questions

A sigh comes out of me.... not that you need my opinion my goodwoman, but you did the right thing last night...despite the risks, to not do anything would have shown ethical blindness and chipped away at the cemented foundation of your ability to lead men in future battle, if not the moral high ground upon which this cause stands on.

Men in war will undergo extreme risks, accepting gorydamn hell, imprisonment, torture and death so long as the believe they are not forgotten and know in good faith their commanders and leaders will do everything in their power to not leave a fallen comrade behind.

"Thank you" lady Wardoxan simply says and by the way she speaks it's obvious the loss of so many people weights heavily on her soul.

"We are short on resources at the moment but my request was great and I can do nothing else than open Fort Portolmaeus’ armory to those who would help rescue my men!" Then she adds:"I don't know where the demons went after the ambush... I can only guess they retreated towards the Worldwound. It's imperative you intercept them before they cross into that demon infested place! As for their weaknesses most demons are unable to withstand the kiss of cold iron and of course weapons blessed by Good are their bane. Perhaps we can spare a few cold iron weapons but unfortunately I doubt we have anything as powerful as blesed weapons".

As the exchange goes on, Sir Ilivan listen but doesn't speak a word.

As this happenms Sir Ilivan quickly chimes in:"You do realize this is clearly a fool’s errand, right? An ill-conceived endeavor dreamt up by an inexperienced commander wracked with guilt. The cavalrymen are surely already beyond our help by now and most likely have already been killed for food or sport. You cannot be so gullible to seriously think of following those demons into the Worldwound, right? The only sensible option is to get back to Nerosyan as soon as possible!"

Idril:
A brimorak is immune to eletricity and fire

Valentynne and Vrothum begin to hear their companions whisper derogatory things under their breath. Trying to focus on what any one person is saying only causes another’s whispers to grow louder.

DC20 Knowledge(planes) check to identify what's happening. Idril and Azrael don't need to roll anyomre, Valentynne and Vrothum must roll will again (same DC as above). Of course Rogar and Titus need to roll the first set of saves first and see what happens from there.

Sudenly Sir Ilivan starts crying and curling up in the fetal position on the ground.

Rogar:
Boiling Blood (Su): A brimorak’s blood is boiling hot. A brimorak can cough out a hideous amount of this scorching fluid as a breath weapon, but the blood also serves the demon as a defensive ability. Any creature that damages a brimorak with a slashing or piercing melee weapon is sprayed by boiling blood, and takes 1d4 points of fire damage with each successful hit with such a weapon. Creatures using reach weapons are not subject to this damage.
Burning Hooves (Su): A brimorak’s hooves burn with fire, leaving scorched hoofprints on wood, stone, and most every other solid surface, yet this supernatural fire does not set alight surfaces the demon treads upon. It does make it easier to track a brimorak, though—Survival checks made to track a brimorak gain a +8 circumstance bonus. Brimoraks use their air walk ability to throw creatures off their trail, or to leave their prints in strange places (like atop roofs) so as to spread fear and terror. Against a prone foe, a brimorak can make two hoof attacks rather than just one.
Flaming Weapon (Su): As a free action, a brimorak can infuse a wielded melee weapon (including a two-handed weapon, but not a second weapon held in the off-hand) with its fiery nature, allowing it to inflict an additional 1d6 points of fire damage with the weapon. This fire damage stacks with any additional fire damage that the weapon might also inflict. The weapon loses this ability if it leaves the demon’s grasp.
Smoke Breath (Su): A brimorak’s breath manifests as clouds of foul-smelling smoke when it exhales. This breath surrounds the brimorak out to a radius of 5 feet—while the smoke isn’t thick enough to obscure vision or choke foes, it is enough to sicken breathing foes who are not immune to poison. A successful DC 17 Fortitude save grants immunity to a particular brimorak’s breath for 24 hours. The save DC is Constitution-based.

Your status:

Idril, Azrael, Rogar -> Passed the first will save

Vrothum -> Passed second will save

Valentynne -> failed first will save, needs to check for the second one

Titus -> needs to roll the first will save.

Rogar strength of mind makes him impervious to the strange effect enveloping some of his friends. Perhaps inspired by the paladin's example, Vrothum manages to shake off the maddening whispers from his thoughts as well.

Giving people some more time to do this before botting

Titus starts to hear whispers as well. People badmouthing him! His companions badmouthing him!!!
Valentynne on the other hand steels himself and avoids the worst of the maddening effect.

In order not to slow us down too much I will roll Titus other saves

Titus' Will save 02: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13

Tituis feels a powerful anger welling up inside his chest. He looks around with bloodshot eyes at Valentynne. The fighter feels sure his so called "friend" has been conspiring against him this whole time!
