Please
1. ninja-dot into the Gameplay thread.
2. post with your
- Player Name
- Character Name
- PFS #
- Faction
- Day Job roll or Faction sheet
- Fast or slow progression
- Anything else that you want *me* to notate on your Chronicle Sheet
3. put a copy of your preferred token, on the first slide of the maps here. While you are there, add your perception and initiative modifiers and preferred marching order.
4. make sure the Paizo profile page for your character includes some botting instructions. They can be as simple as "skip my turn" if you like: that's what I'll do when I need to boot you if you don't post any. You may want to address whether or not I should consume any resources (wand charges, potions, limited use class abilities, etc.) or change any statuses (beginning or ending rage, inspiration, etc.) when botting your character. My default policy on botting is that each character has roughly 24 hours to post from when they are first up in combat. If anyone has a problem with that, please let me know.
5. discuss marching order and standard operating procedure (SOP) for dungeon crawling here in the discussion thread and let me know what you prefer as a group.
Some example questions an SOP might answer:
- Who checks for traps?
- Who searches the room?
- Is anyone providing light?
- Given multiple doors to go through, which door will the party choose by default? (e.g. the left one first) This can really speed things up as I can move the party into the next room when they have resolved the current one

GM Socrates |

Presuming everyone checks in soon, I am hoping to get the first gameplay post up in the next 24-48 hours.

Character Name Zekuli
PFS # 270121-3
Faction Dark Archive
Day Job roll or Faction sheet Profession (librarian): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13

Anything else I would like to buy a wand of cure light wounds with my 2 PP. I don't know whether you want to mark that on the sheet or if it's up to me.
This is the character I intended to bring; I can alternately create a new character, depending on what we have in the group.

I knew I was forgetting something in my instructions in the OP!
Here are the map slides, where you can place a copy of your preferred token, as well as set your initiative and perception mods.
I don't see that any of you have gotten past step 2 of the instructions there.

GM Socrates |

I went ahead and kicked off the Gameplay thread if y'all want to RP your trip out to the tower. I think we are still waiting on one person to dot in. Once all 6 have dotted in and the other items in the OP are more or less resolved, I will kick us off in earnest.

![]() |

Zekuli can cast Light, so he would keep that up on his shield in dark spaces. He can cast it on something else instead if we need light up at the front. For marching order, it doesn't matter too much to him so he can go wherever nobody else wants to stand. He has a limited-use special attack he can do at 30 feet, which means that it's ok if he's toward the rear and can't get into melee immediately. That's convenient when you're stuck with a 20ft speed. He won't be much help with traps, I'm afraid.
I see Caelreth has quite a good perception, so that's good for being at the front. I'm not sure what classes we have with Arisira or our mystery sixth person. If they're squishy types they should stay toward the center.

![]() |

Updated and ready to go!
Halfling Bard, on the squishy side. Middle to back of the back is good for me- Primary weapon is a shortbow

![]() |

Wowee, what a divine group! And lots of different gods represented among us all.
"Twice as many if you ask me! HAHAHAHA!!" Pietro slaps Zekuli on the back with a ham-sized fist, and not one of those cut-rate ham-sized fists either. This is a family-sized ham with enough leftovers for a sandwich or two tomorrow.

![]() |

Zekuli staggers and all his armor clatters loudly as he barely manages to catch himself from falling over. "Erm... right," he manages.
On a completely unrelated note, I guess the stealthy approach won't be much of an option.

![]() |

"STEALTH!? HAHAHAHA!!"

GM Socrates |

Everyone has dotted in, but I am still waiting on Qstor\Seelah and letsuna/Hap to put their mods in the google doc.
Caelreth I have no problem with Paladins serving Desna (my first Pathfinder Paladin served Desna) but I think by RAW in PFS Paladins must serve a deity within one step of LG. You won't hear anything further from me, but I imagine some other GMs may give you more trouble for that.

![]() |

There's a healthy community of CORE paladins and clerics and such dedicated to Shelyn on the boards. Just sayin' ;)

GM Socrates |

As a NG deity, Shelyn is within one step of LG and therefore not a problem for strict rules-followers.

GM Socrates |

Hap's token and mods are on the slide. Sorry for the delay.
No problem; just wanted to make sure nothing and no one gets overlooked.

GM Socrates |

Oh, Qstor, I just remembered. I could be wrong, but I think you're supposed to only use a pregen when you don't have a character of the appropriate level available. Is the PC you're applying to chronicle to already rolled up?

GM Socrates |

Arisira, have you tried getting the Google Slides app for your phone? Meanwhile, I moved your token for you.

What is this SORCERY?
—————Now I have...
How did I go for 6 months on Pbp without knowing about that app?!
Thank you sir!

![]() |

Yeah but I have played any games with it? I have 3 unplayed 1st levels? Want me to switch?
Edit the guide on p.6 seems flexible? It says you can play a pregen to try a new class.

Hmm, maybe I misunderstood Magabeus. I think what you *can't* do is play a pregen at the same time you are playing the character that you are applying the credit to. That is essentially doubling up and I think that's why it's not allowed.
As long as you're not planning on using Turen until after this scenario wraps up, I think you should be fine.

GM Socrates |

In answer to your earlier question, Arisira/RxGus, your previous round of inspiration ends at the beginning of your turn. This does mean that you have to burn at least 2 rounds of inspiration any time you want to benefit. The good news is that at the rate a Bard accrues rounds as they level up, that part is not that big a deal, and at level 7 it is only a move action to initiate a bardic performance.

![]() |

Thanks GM!
It's funny, I have been playing RPG's for a long time- but since I have never played a bard before I never even *thought* of that question. I always let someone else do the inspiring ;)

GM Socrates |

It took me a while to play a Bard but now it is one of my favorite classes. They can be effective combatants yet they have a lot of non combat utility, a neat spell list, and can really save the party's butt sometimes: the performance that lets item PCs reroll some saves us awesome.
I follow the AngryGM philosophy that says if the characters are capable of doing something that they try to do, and there are no threats or external time limits, then you can just let them do it. No point in making everyone sit around rolling dice when there is essentially no penalty for failure and no interesting decisions to make. Put differently, once you've made the interesting decision (you will get to a higher story by climbing there) and I've determined that it's possible (Hap could take 10 and do it without breaking a sweat) and there's no one chasing you or attacking you, and no external time constraint, then let's get on with the action.

![]() |

I play a bard in my home game, and I love the class, but I had completely forgotten that it takes an entire standard action to start your performance at the early levels. I guess you block out the pain points of being level 1 once you get into how great it is later. :D

GM Socrates |

I may not be able to post tonight; not sure how the rest of the weekend looks. But I am having so much fun I will probably try to squeeze at least one post in somewhere.

GM Socrates |

Sorry for the delay in posting. Today was a full day at work. Tomorrow will be as well and then I have plans in the evening. Friday and Saturday I am prepping for a party on Saturday evening, but I hope to still get 1-2 updates in before Sunday.

GM Socrates |

How do y'all feel about my battle descriptions up to this point? I'm pretty sure the high-pace, high-volume GMs don't go into that kind of detail, so I'm trying to figure out where the balance is.
While we're on the topic, how do you feel about the game, and my GMing, so far?

![]() |

I am very happy, including the SOP for advancing the story/opening doors. I find that PbP really really bog down every time you have to open a door (Check for traps, wait for so and so to post they opened the door, wait for the GM to post a description, etc etc).
I much prefer the story advancement methods that you are using.

![]() |

I’m not sure who you’re comparing to, but I like detailed descriptions. Otherwise it’s liable to turn into everybody just rolling dice and then going home - which can be fun, but is not exactly a roleplaying game.
Thanks for tracking the rounds of bless by the way. Trying to count rounds of a minute-long spell between encounters is always a pain.

FYI: I am going to be travelling from now until April 15th. I will have a computer and some internet, but I doubt I will be able to post more than once a day. I will do my best to make sure that I giving detailed instructions/ideas so that everyone isn't waiting around for me all the time.

GM Socrates |

Sorry I didn't post yesterday; my kids were up later than usual and by the time I got them down I was exhausted. And it is doubly unfortunate because as my status line says, the 1st Thursday of every month is a tough day for me to post and it is not going to happen tonight.

GM Socrates |

Sorry again that my absence extended so long. It's normal for me to miss the first and second Thursday of the month, but it's unfortunate that I missed the days before and after as well.

GM Socrates |

Just a reminder: this week is super busy for me at work and I may not be able to post much until sometime this weekend.

GM Socrates |

Next post is going to take me a bit to write up. I am helping my brother move today but I should be able to post tonight when I get home or tomorrow night at the latest.

GM Socrates |

I'm at a conference all week. Seeing as how I'm traveling AGAIN in the second half of the following week, I don't think I can afford to completely let off. So I'm going to do what I can to get some posts in. But I wanted y'all to know what's going on with me in case my posts are few and far between.
