Sugarsnap's Flaming Sphere continues to threaten to burn away one of the snake swarms, and this time they are unable to move out of its way. The majority of the snakes are burned, but the swarm still remains. The halfling druid then turns into an air elemental, and Truffles grunts with resignation.
Xakon uses his hatred of snakes to avoid being distracted by them, then climbs out of the pit like an angry monkey.
Frēodwēn continues to inspire his companions as he fires two arrows at the degenerate serpentfolk. The second projectile hits the enemy in its other side, but it remains standing.

Hearing no sounds beyond the north door, nor finding any traps, the door is opened and the group progresses through it. On the other side you find a short flight of stairs to the east that lead down to a doorway and an alcove containing a statue of a robed serpentfolk priest with its hand raised in warning. On the wall at the top of the stairs, the image of a coiling serpent is carved in the stone. To the west is a doorway leading north, after which the passage continues west.
Following the standard operating procedure, Xakon leads the group east towards the door at the bottom of the stairs. As he reaches the end of the stairs, the statue at the bottom comes to life and stands aggressively before him.

Frēodwēn identifies the statue as an Animated Object. This construct has hardness like an inanimate object, so adamantine weapons are required to do full damage and energy spells are less effective. In addition, Frēodwēn ascertains that this particular type can probably attempt to grab those that it hits with a slam attack.
After deducing that from seeing the statue, Frēodwēn begins inspiring his fellow Pathfinders.
Mudk heals himself and moves into position to attack the flat-footed statue, then hits it with his falchion. The non-adamantine weapon does almost half less damage than it should have from the hit.
The statue responds by slamming Xakon in the side and making a vain attempt to grab him. Xakon takes 8 damage from the statue's attack.

Xakon takes a few minutes, but finally manages to unlock the door.
This large chamber has a viewing gallery on the west end and a dirt-floored pit on the east end, with manacles attached to the wall. Both ends have doors leading south, but the door in the pit has no handle or keyhole. Also in the room is a dark-haired human woman dressed in filthy, torn robes chained to the pit’s east wall. She appears to be wounded, but none of the injuries look recent. On the other side of the pit, 6 dire sized rats scurry about the floor.
