Lady Sugarsnap |
Sugar meanders back toward all the commotion, He guys, what is all....the....

truffles will save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
the voices babble all around Sugar and she stands there a second then suddenly its like she understands what it is saying. probably from being around her father who was a bard and storyteller and he tended to babble quite a bit.
Truffles on the other hand is confused with all the commands.
confusion: 1d100 ⇒ 81
ok that says Truffles attacks nearest creature, would that be Sugar? or does he just move up to attack Jirah or Freo?
Somewhere in the all the barrage of commands, Truffles latches onto the first familiar word, "attack"
and he immediately lashes out at....
truffles confused attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Sugar seeing Truffles act weird tries to bring him back out of the room before he gets really hurt.
handle animal: 1d20 + 7 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 7 + 4 = 27
Mudk |
Mudk attacks with his spikes as the beast rolls over him.
"Foul demon! Feel the wrath of the Inheritor! Quick my friends spear it and me that my righteous blood can condemn it for eternity!"
power attack smite evil with all the crappy grappled effects: 1d20 + 7 - 1 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 7 - 1 + 3 - 2 = 151d6 + 4 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 3 + 2 = 15
The modifiers are: +7(BAB+STR) -1(Pwr Atk) -2(grappled) +3(cha mod). For damage it is: +4(str) +3(paladin level) + 2(power attack) Remove any I got wrong.
Mudk |
I did not change the modifiers for "If the target of smite evil is an outsider with the evil subtype, an evil-aligned dragon, or an undead creature," I don't even know if the smite is gonna land but I'm acting as if it isn't any of the above.
GM Harker |
Mudk's attack of opportunity successfully hits the fleshy mass, but yet again doesn't appear to be completely effective, although it does do some damage. His second attack misses, and the aberration grapples him with one of its mouths.
Xakon also hits the monster, but his rapier doesn't appear to injure it at all.
Succumbing to the creature's confusing babble, Truffles turns on Sugarsnap and gores her despite the druid's attempt to rein him in.
Now grappled, Mudk attempts to harm the creature with his spiked armor, but it oozes around the sharp points to avoid being injured. The paladin also quickly learns that the bizarre monster is not evil.
Freod and Jirah are still up, please don't forget your Will saves.
Frēodwēn |
Frēodwēn pauses in his attacks to shout "This thing won't be the end of us, friends! Surely not! Perhaps we can slash it open yet."
Has anyone tried slashing weapons yet? Frēodwēn has a falchion. If slashing won't help, he'll do more average damage with two arrows than with either of his melee weapons.
Round 2 action:
Beginning bardic inspiration as a standard action
Rolls:

Xakon |
The bloody bugger is immune to my sword!
Please make knowledge dungeoneering checks if you have it trained. I'm looking at the bard and wizard for guidance.
GM Harker |
I believe piercing is the only damage type attempted thus far.
Frēodwēn begins inspiring the group through impressive oratory.
Resisting the insane yammering, Jirah fires an arrow at the disgusting creature and hits it, but once again it seems to shrug off the worst of the damage.
Jirah Will Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Jirah Longbow + PBS - DA + IC: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 6 + 1 = 19
Damage: 1d8 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 5 + 1 = 8
The monster continues its hold on Mudk and now completely engulfs his entire body, as its numerous mouths attach themselves and start feeding on his blood. Mudk takes 12 damage and unfortunately takes 2 more points of Constitution damage. Mudk is now considered swallowed whole, he can make an attack on the creature's insides with a light piercing or slashing weapon and hope to cut out a hole big enough to escape. Alternatively, he can also try to break the grapple.

"help me against my foe! "
He shouts as he presses a palm into his side.
layonhands swift action: 1d6 ⇒ 3
GM Harker |
Frēodwēn realizes this creature is an aberration known as a gibbering mouther. Because it's mostly a bag of flesh, it's resistant to piercing and slashing weapon attacks, although bludgeoning does full damage. With all of its eyes, it cannot be flanked and it is also immune to critical strikes and precision damage. The group has already seen the effects of its gibbering, acid spittle, and engulf attacks. It can also turn earth and stone around it into mud.
Using the spikes on his armor to his full advantage, Mudk bursts out of the creature and frees himself from its grapple. He then partially heals himself with the palm of his hand. Afterwards the creature flows back together to seal the paladin sized hole.
Jirah, Sugar/Truffles, Frēodwēn
Frēodwēn |
Frēodwēn shares what he remembers about the gibbering mouther before shouting some more encouragement and letting loose with two more arrows.
While the minimum damage is higher with my silvered hammer, the average and maximum damage is higher with two shots from my longbow, so that's what I'm going for, regardless of DR

Truffles, you ok? you look a little, ahhh, confused
she has Truffles stay put, worried that he may get all confused again.
Sugar then glances into the room at the blob creature, as she decides what to do Fro says something about blunt weapons.
suddenly she has an idea, pulling out her sling-shot and three small stone bullets, Sugar whispers some words as she enchants the bullets.
cast magic stone and takes aim for a shot in the next round.
GM Harker |
Both of Frēodwēn's arrows bounce off the gibbering mouther's natural defenses without leaving a mark.
Truffles manages to come out of his confusion, while Sugarsnap prepares a magical bludgeoning attack to use against the monster.
The Inspire Courage actually doesn't give a bonus to resist the confusion, but a 13 is high enough for Truffles to snap out of it.
Jirah is up, I'll give her a bit longer with her current circumstances.
GM Harker |
Jirah fires another arrow at the gibbering mouther, but her aim is off and the projectile misses.
Jirah Longbow + PBS: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 6 + 1 = 14
The aberration turns its attention to Xakon, biting him with one mouth, but missing with three others. Perhaps out of some frustration, it's last two mouths try to bite Mudk, but those miss as well. Xakon takes 3 damage from the bite.

morningstar: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 6 + 1 = 22
damage: 1d6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 1 = 9
I forgot to add +1 to my morningstar damage last round.
Lady Sugarsnap |
Sugar gasps in fear (well slight fear) when the creature bites Xakon, Xakon, watch out, I don't want you to loose anything we may need later.
Sugar tries to get a clear shot on the thing.
sling shot: 1d20 + 6 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (7) + 6 + 1 - 4 = 10
but the shot flies off shattering as it hits the wall.
GM Harker |
I took the additional damage into account for last round, Xakon.
Xakon smacks the bizarre creature once again with his morningstar, and disgusting bits go flying, but it manages to remain together.
Truffles remains in time out, while Sugarsnap tosses a sling bullet at the gibbering mouther that misses. Mudk has a similar lack of success with his polearm.
Jirah and Frēodwēn
GM Harker |
Frēodwēn and Jirah fire more arrows at gibbering mouther, with the former continuing to inspire his companions through oratory. Only the bard hits with one of his arrows, although the creature's unnatural body continues to absorb the majority of the damage.
Frēodwēn Longbow 1, attack, point blank, rapid shot, inspired: 1d20 + 7 + 1 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 7 + 1 - 2 + 1 = 13

Xakon manages to strike the creature again with his morningstar despite all the disgusting mouths surrounding him.

Freod can save his arrows and round of Inspire.

are you alright? Did that blob hurt you?
When Xakon goes to use his wand Sugar grabs it, I'll do that, you look way to weak for such strenuous activity.
Sugar will use the wand for Xakon
I know Fro said he would, but Sugar will insist...
Jirah Aurellion |
Sorry for the absence guys. I had to deal with black friday, then family thanksgiving stuff, then divorce. Me and the wife ended up trying to work things out, but now I'm back. Thanks for your patience.
Jirah sighs as the combat ends.
I still question the sense in the decision to send an archer on a mission with so many indoor fights... I mean, did the Venture Captains even look at my dossier before choosing me?
She sheathes her arrow and looks forward.
So, now what?
Xakon |
Xakon allows Sugar to heal him with his curing wand.
Thanks Sugar. I'm much better now. One day, I need to learn how to use my magic sticks before it blows up in my face. I heard some men outside the door in the hallway. Let's finish searching this room and head out.
Perception, hidden objects in room: 10 + 10 = 20
GM Harker |
Mudk, you were only 15 hp down not taking into account the Con damage, so you only need two charges from your wand.
If my math is correct, Sugarsnap still has 5 damage from Truffles' confusion.

All right, it looks like everyone is ready to move on.
Xakon next moves to one of the carved doors that he examined earlier and opens it. Inside you see that this mess hall’s north and south walls are fitted with shelves containing mismatched goblets, platters, and bowls. A number are made of fine porcelain emblazoned with crests of noble families. A raised table with three lavish chairs stands at the east end.
There are also four men who wearing masks and wielding crossbows that are standing around ready for you.

Sugarsnap casts Guidance on Xakon to give him some minor magical assistance to deal with any challenges in the next minute.
Xakon, unfortunately the enemy can clearly see you moving into the room from your previous position. If you were to get under a table, I'd allow you to make a stealth check to hide, but still standing out in the open there's really no way he's going to lose sight of you.
Xakon moves into the room and stabs the closest (green) bandit with his rapier.
The two masked men in the east side of the room move out of the range of Mudk's polearm and both fire their crossbows at him. Fortunately, neither bolt hits the paladin.
The (white) enemy in the northwest corner of the room drops his crossbow and draws a shortsword as he tumbles past Mudk to move north of Xakon's position. He holds his attack while his compatriot in the southwest portion of the room also switches to a shortsword and moves 5 feet to set up a flank. Despite their advantageous positioning, neither masked man is able to strike the quick-footed Xakon.
