Faeria, the Mad |
Free action.
"No. There is no need to try the key on that one." Faeria says in her dreamy voice, waving vaguely over at the copper banded chest. "It would not fit and besides I have already unlocked it and found it to be empty. It is just a distraction."
Faeria, the Mad |
Faeria gnaws on the side of the metal cube. "This course is as tough as steel." She sets it aside finding it unappetizing and looks for something to drink but passes on the acid, seeing as that glass is obviously Hugo's. "Where's mine?"
Faeria wanders over to the basket.

Roshan and Hugo take the jeweled brass key over to the copper banded chest and put it into the key hole.
As you try the key on the chest you see the chest fade into a faint outline as they realize it to be an illusion.

Roshan the Rider |
Roshan fusses with the box, sideyeing Faeria.
"But you didn't open it," she says with another frown. "We've been in this room with you the whole time."
After attempting to open the box, Roshan realizes it's illusory and sighs. "It's an illusion," she says to the others. "Perhaps in her mind she opened it. I'm not sure how someone who can't distinguish reality from her own dreams actually made it through the three years of Pathfinder training."
She moves to the lacquered box instead.
Hugo Bearbane |
Hugo scratches his head, trying to figure out what happened to the chest. He looks around the room for other clues.

"Did I say that? I don't think I opened it." Faeria says. "I only unlocked its secret."

.......... Salhar's Vault ..........
Faeria moves over to the wicker basket picking it up and giving it a good shake. Kagar and Roshan move over to the red chest, next to Fellstone, while Hugo and Throdiun wander around the room looking for anything else that might help the group solve the puzzle.
This smooth, red lacquered chest looks devious. The
solid metal plate surrounding the gaping keyhole pulses
with glowing amber runes.
What do you do next?
As you shake the basket you can feel a small solid object bounce around hitting the sides and you can hear what sounds like rubbing of cloth over cloth.
What do you do next?

Roshan the Rider |
"I suppose you're right," Roshan sighs to Kagar's words.
She shrugs and tries the key in the red box, while trying to keep an eye on Faeria as she's not sure what the other woman might take it into her head to do. She orders Bagheera to come close.

.......... Salhar's Vault ..........
Roshan tries the jeweled brass key into the red chest as Fellstone and Kagar stand over the halfling waiting for the box to open but the key does not even fit into the keyhole.
Faeria, the Mad |
"I think it's clothing. Here listen." Faeria says cheerfully.
Theoduin |
Thanks GM that helped alot
"Hey guys we dont know what this cube is for but i have an idea."
Theoduin takes the flask of acid and starts to pour it on the cube
melts it into key we need?
Roshan the Rider |
"--that's clever," Roshan says with interest, watching to see if the acid on the cube has any effect.
She rubs at her chin and looks back to Kagar. "Not really my thing, but..."

Faeria offers the wicker basket to others to listen at but the others just look at her strangely shaking their heads.
Kagar and Roshan try to figure out the Arcane Mark on the red chest but even with Roshan's extensive knowledge of nature they are still stumped.
Theoduin grabs the bottle of acid and pours it on the steel chest which smokes a little but has little affect on it. Theoduin you take 1 damage from splashing acid.
Kagar the Painted Fury |
Flummoxed by the illusory chest, the marked chest, and the steel box, Kagar goes to look at the basket in Faeria's hands. He requests if she'd give it to him, listening and feeling its weight before possible looking inside.

Hugo doesn't understand the nature of an illusion, so he tries the key in that chest.
Then he tries to determine the source of the hissing sound.

@Kagar - Damage looks good. Save made no more poison.
In the basket is a blue stone key tangled a pile of crumpled linens.
.......... Combat Over!!! ..........
Well that was fast
Fellstone Bloodknuckle |
The fight was over before Fellstone could slip into a combat stance. He harrumphed and went back to pondering the chests.
"Doubtful that a snake is going to do us any good in opening these things up." he says. "What about that stuff in the jar that burned Hugo? Maybe we need to pour it over one of these boxes..."
Kagar the Painted Fury |
Kagar pulls a cloth out of the basket followed by a key. Scratching his nose where the snake bit, he goes to the chest with the runes and tries it.

Faeria, the Mad |
"Oh?!" Faeria says as the snake launches its attack. This is quickly followed by "Eww." after Kagar finishes his.
"I thought it was going to be clothes." She says a bit disappointed. "Anyway, not my size...."
Roshan the Rider |
Roshan's yelp at the snake's appearance similarly barely gets a chance to be heard before the creature's dealt with. She blinks.
"...is your nose okay?" she asks Kagar. "...ooh, new key. There's a keyhole on this steel one, too, and a really thin crack. Let's try the acid-flask key in this one while you attempt that other one."
Roshan does so.
GM - Wackadoodle |
.......... Salhar's Vault ..........
Hugo tries the key once again in the copper banned chest but is just passes right thru it. Then Roshan comes over and asks if he will try it on the steel block.
@Fellstone - Theoduin already poured the acid over the steel cube.
Kagar moves to the red chest and puts the blue stone key into the keyhole and the chest pops open.
Within the chest is a key forged into the end of a jeweled scepter.
You hear a slight click as a mechanism activates. Following the sounds of the machine working thru the room you see up a small, golden key drop from a slit in the ceiling hanging from a string 6 inches down from the 15-foot-high ceiling.

Kagar the Painted Fury |
Kagar retrieves a key/scepter from the chest and spots another key dangling from the ceiling. Looking about, he tries to find a way to get to it. Then he sees the table.
He tries to scoot the table under the key, hop on top, and reaches out for it.
GM - Wackadoodle |
.......... Salhar's Vault ..........
Kagar can not reach the key hanging from the ceiling. It is still about six feet to the key.
Faeria, the Mad |
"Do you suppose it is up there so they would not forget it?"
Faeria drags a likely looking table or chest over underneath the key.
GM - Wackadoodle |
.......... Salhar's Vault ..........
@Faeria - Kagar is currently standing on the table trying to reach the key.
Faeria, the Mad |
Faeria (with obvious strain) lifts copper-bound illusory box and thuds it on the table for Kagar to stand upon.
"Try this." She says helpfully.
Faeria, the Mad |
I think human pyramid is the best thing we can do right now, unless one of us has a polearm? Or shuriken? I... neglected to get any when building Kagar....
Or can jump. ;)
Kagar the Painted Fury |
No can do. It's a DC 48 to jump the requisite 6 ft without a running start.
Kagar thinks and offers Fellstone a hand up on the table. "Or just heft you up to my shoulders. You grab the key."
Sounds good? Estimate 5-5.5 feet for Kagar at the shoulders, 3-4 feet for the dwarf, plus arm outstretched for another foot or two?Slightly easier hop if we need an extra foot or two.
Roshan the Rider |
(If necessary, Roshan is willing to climb to the top of that pyramid, as she don't weigh that much.)
GM - Wackadoodle |
.......... Salhar's Vault ..........
After a few minutes the group is able to retrive the key by standing on one others shoulders with the halfling climbing to the top.
You now have a small bright golden key.
