Sleggar Vellici |
Sleggar will once more attempt to help Odryk read the character Linguistics aid another: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
He will inspect the basin and pour some water down the drain to see what happens
Nori Nao |
Nori peers out their exit and sees no signs of threat. Turning toward the hall, she follows her companions to the fountain. Sleggar's dumping of water made her thirsty. She took a swig from her own waterskin as she examined the strange fountain. Her eyes swept over the carving, looking for any hidden hinges or mechanical elements.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
DM ShadowBloodmoon |
Odryk and Sleggar attempt to identify the word, but their Kellish isn't the best. As Sleggar dumps the water down the basin, he watches it vanish into nothingness, as if the basin drank it up. That's when Nori appears behind them and starts assessing the strange carving. She also finds nothing else of interest with the fountain.
DM ShadowBloodmoon |
An hour hasn't passed yet on the torch, but that's okay. :-) Not sure where everyone went but I'll push a bit.
Sleggar makes sure his torch is still burning as he decides to turn around and go back the way they came, bypassing the room with the bones and the one with the slick on the wall, staying as close to the eastern wall as he can. He rounds the corner and heads back down the entrance hallway, this time towards where the map says Spiders, passing Orn, who has been keeping watch at the entrance. Ahead of him he can see where the hallway opens up into the room that says it contains spiders. On his left he passes the door that leads to the Library and as soon as he enters the room, he sees that Maurit was telling the truth about this long, narrow room that is choked with webbing. Within the webs are a number of what appear to be small, dead humanoids with dark, scaled skin, each wrapped in a cocoon of sticky webbing. Your torchlight reflects off their dead eyes and the webbing itself.

Sleg lights the webbing on fire to clear the webs out of the way.
This should make it a bit brighter in here.. The awkward night jokes to Orn Not that you need it I guess
Nori Nao |
Nori snickers, "And it'll notify anyone to our presence in here. If they don't know we're here already, Mr. Lightfoot." she says to Sleggar as she waits for the fire to die down.
Odryk |
"Corpses in a spider web?" Odryk frowns, wishing they hadn't lit up the grisly scene. The benefit of darkvision was that everything was black and white, color always made everything worse at times like this.
He doesn't move closer to the bodies but he does attempt to figure out how long they've been dead.
Heal: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Sleggar Vellici |
Just wanted to make sure there weren't any spiders up there Sleggar shrugs and examines the bodies.

DM ShadowBloodmoon |
Going to presume that everyone has joined Sleggar in this room.. also, the consensus seems to be that Wound Thresholds are not cool, so we have done away with those rules...
It doesn't take long for Sleggar's torch to burn through most of the webbing in this room. As the flames travel along, he can hear the tiny shrieks of small spiders dying in the flames as their crisped husks fall to the floor. The kobold bodies, no longer being held aloft by webbing, also fall to the ground. You notice as a small gem comes rolling away from one of the bodies. As Sleggar steps closer to investigate, a large creature leaps from the shadows in the ceiling to attack! Sleggar is too enamored with the shiny object to react fast enough, but Orn, Odryk and Nori see that it is a giant spider.

Orn, Nori and Odryk are up. The spider is 20 feet up and 30 feet away. You catch it mid leap..
Odryk |
"Sleggar watch out, Spider!" Odryk shouts as he pulls one of his extracts out and drinks it. Almost immediately his arms grow in length, once they're done growing he draws his Rapier and waits for the spider to close in.
Extract of Longarm: Odryk now has 10 foot reach.
DM ShadowBloodmoon |
I'm starting to think we lost Orn.. he hasn't posted since January and his Main last posted a week ago. Going to Bot him this fight, but I'm wondering if we want to start up recruitment again to fill some of the ranks. Thoughts?
Orn quickly turns and moves just close enough to fire off one of his spells at the spider, but the greenish bolt simply splashes off to the side of it, sizzling on the broken mosaic ceiling.

Sleggar looks up as Odryk yells out his warning just in time for Nori to push him out of the way a few feet. Odryk's rapier clears its sheath with his extended arm as the spider closes in, going for Nori, but its jump from that height seemed to have stunned it a bit as it scrambles to get back to its legs.

Umm... guys? Everyone still here? Been about a week since the last update. Are we keen to continue?

Oh I missed this update somehow

Orn Flying Talon: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Sleggar's whip cracks against the spider's side, sending it skittering across the floor toward Orn who then sends his flying talon weapon after it, but it glides over the beast. It is just as well as it sets up Nori for a perfect strike at its underbelly. The creature stops moving for a moment and then collapses on the floor.
Nicely done guys!
DM ShadowBloodmoon |
Sleggar makes his way to the back of the cavernous room, his boot kicking the shiny gem across the floor, satisfaction in his mind as the spider's body rests behind him. His torch burned enough webbing away that he sees an opening in the back of the room that wasn't on Maurit's map. It leads up a ways...
Nori Nao |
Nori wipes the ichor off her blade and follows Sleggar, "Yeah. You're welcome." The ninja peers around the room, wondering if any trinkets had fallen from the webbing before they moved on.
perc: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
She peers down the passage that is revealed, her low-light vision extending past her human companion.
DM ShadowBloodmoon |
Nori's fast eyes quickly note that the shiny object is a pearl of some kind and one of the kobold bodies has a slightly charred pouch that she can see some sort of coin peaking out of.
The passageway leads upwards about twenty feet and then opens up more. Nori's lowlight vision can see more into the room and notices, from what she can see from the other room, that the walls in there look almost new, as if untouched by time. What is really more odd though is that she hears a strange, low wailing coming from somewhere in the room ahead. Sleggar begins to hear it as well...
Winter Phoenix |
my Nori profile on wayfinder disappeared
Nori tries to identify the sound as she sneaks past Slegger and up the tunnel toward the room. It was foreign to her bit maybe she could determine if it were an animal cry or other worldly.

DM ShadowBloodmoon |
Nori enters the room and hears that the mournful howl seems to be coming from a stone well in the room’s center. This large chamber’s walls, once painted with vermilion and gilded with gold leaf, are now splotched and crumbling. Unlike the walls, however, the tiles that decorate the well are untouched by the ages and gleam as if recently polished. She doesn't notice anything else in the room other than a set of double doors in the north wall.
Nori Nao |
"Your boldness will be the death of you one day, knight," Nori scowls and approaches the well with caution. She peers around it, looking for any source of the wailing.
DM ShadowBloodmoon |
As Nori goes to determine the source of the strange wailing, Sleggar throws open the doors to the next room. Nori thinks she hears something else within the well but is interrupted when four kobolds look in surprise from the room Sleggar accessed. They grab their spears and stand up, but do not approach either of you.
Sleggar Vellici |
Sleggar lets out a mighty bellow and in Draconic says That's enough you whelps, don't touch those spears. Just let us pass and everything will be hunky-dory
DM ShadowBloodmoon |
Rolling that Intimidate for you...
Sleggar's Intimidating Speech: 1d20 - 2 + 4 ⇒ (4) - 2 + 4 = 6
The four kobolds look quizzically at Sleggar, shifting their weapons nervously, but they do not back down. "Your Draconic is atrocious, naked ape. What do you want here?" One of them, a female, approaches slowly.
Orn's character would change this interaction drastically, but I'm presuming we lost him and it's just the two of you now, since I haven't seen Odryk in a while either. For immersion's sake, they are exploring another part of the keep together.
Nori Nao |
Nori is distracted from the well as the exchange begins. She abandons it for the time being and strides forward. Her tongue flicks in smooth draconic, "Forgive my guard here. He is brutish." The corner of her lips lifts in a sly smile at Sleggar, "You are trespassing in my ancestor's fortress. But I am merciful. If you can help us find a relic, we shall go in peace."

Nice Roll Nori!
Tarka Sense Motive: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (16) - 1 = 15
The lead kobold looks at Nori and makes a decision. "Peace is possible, but we do not think the Fire Speaker will agree. We can take you to him. He may know of your relic." She puts her hand back and the others lower their spears, but do not drop them.
DM ShadowBloodmoon |
Presuming Nori goes along...
You are taken into a throne room of sorts. At one end of this room is a giant statue of some reptilian creature and above its forehead you can see another of those old Keleshite words. A few more kobolds stand in front of the statue holding spears and when they notice you have an escort, they lower them. The one leading you kneels towards the statue. "My lord, these travelers claim prior ownership of this place and would speak with you about a lost relic."
At first you don't hear anything, but then the mouth of the statue alights with flame as a voice rises above it. "Let them kneel before me as a sign of respect and I will speak with them."
Nori Nao |
sorry, busy weekend and I wasn't able to log on.
Nori pats Sleggar on the arm as the kobolds lead them ahead.
She peers around the chamber as they enter, taking in the crumbled splendor. The ninja takes count of the kobolds and their positions. As her eyes sweep the room, she keeps an eye out for any thing in their environment they might use to their advantage if a fight were to break out.
One of her brows raise in an incredulous look. Stepping forward, she presented herself.
"I do not bow before those I am not acquainted with," she says firmly, "Who makes such a request?"
Shadow Bloodmoon |
No one appears, but the flames gout from the statue close enough that you can feel their heat. "I am the Fire Speaker! You will show respect or you will burn! Kneel before me and make your claim! " For their part, the kobolds simply watch the interaction.

Nori Nao |
Biding her time, she acquiesces and bows low. She dares not lower her eyes though, "Oh great Fire Speaker, I have come to reclaim my ancestral heritage."

DM ShadowBloodmoon |
At this, a strange looking hairless creature steps out from behind the statue, melding into the light from the fires as if from nothingness. "Greetings, Inheritor Nori. I presume you mean to claim this item I wear at my side." He indicates the katana strapped to his belt. "A great weapon, I assure you, but I am reluctant to give it up so freely. What do you have in trade for it?"
Nori Nao |
Nori keeps her eyes from lingering on the weapon. She peers over the creature, unable to identify it as she steps forward, "I admit, I bring nothing of value on my person." She steps slow and carefully, using her body language and tone of voice to seem unthreatening, "I bring no coin or gem. I have no offerings for the Great Fire Speaker. What I do have...is stature and power to offer." Nori moves close to the creature and begins to circle, looking for a way to swipe the weapon from his belt.

My apologies guys, just got back on Monday from a long road trip and still catching up...
Fledzer Sense Motive vs. DC7: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
The creature looks at Nori incredulously. "More power than this weapon? That is impressive. I want this place. To rule it as my own. You have no use for it any more other than to store lost things. I give you the weapon, you give me the castle in my name. Make sure that all in Abasalom know it is mine. Fair?"
Nori Nao |
Nori was struck at how easy this might be. She glanced at Sleggar briefly, masking her surprise. She moved out in front of the creature, playing it cool, "All of Abasalom will fear to tread in your domain once the word is spread. I shall send my fastest couriers and all shall know the Great Fire Speaker rules this place."

Sleggar Vellici |
Sleggar nods at Nori and offers to take the weapon for her so as to not make such a princess deign to handle it herself. Long Livethe Fire Speaker. Long Live Inheritor Nori!
DM ShadowBloodmoon |
Laying it on thick are we?
The creature nods, an odd smile coming to its face. "Yes! Finally I shall be free of this prison. Here is your trinket weapon, may it serve you well. I await the ambassadors of Absalom with their gifts of acceptance.", with that he hands the katana to the kobold that was speaking to you earlier and she carries it over to Sleggar.
Nori Sense Motive: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (3) + 0 = 3
Sleggar Sense Motive: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
She makes an odd face, but it doesn't seem to phase either of you. The creature slinks back behind its statue. "Let them go in peace, Tarka. I am a fair man."
Nori Nao |
Nori spreads her arms wide as if to encompass the room in her blessing and nods toward the Fire Speaker as a last show of respect, "My blessings go with you, Lord Fire Speaker. May your rule be mighty and thrive." With that, she turned on her heel and headed out the way they came. She shares a look with Sleggar. A bit more respect for the knight shone in her sly smile, "You did well in playing along. You play the part of a royal guard quite well" she poked fun at her comrade.
DM ShadowBloodmoon |
In one of your next posts, please indicate who are reporting to first when you return to Absalom: Aaqir, Amara, or continue to explore the rest of the ruin..Or something else entirely. That's the fun of a campaign!
Sleggar Vellici |
Sleggar blushes a bit beneath his helmet. Well Nori, it was the role I was born to play in a sense. Hellknights are about as close to that idyllic archetype as exists in Cheliax.
He realizes too late she was just being jovial and sort of shut up after that.
The one thingwe should consider doing is continuing to explore these ruins. There's probably plenty more history down here and I don't much like those money grubbing types from Qadira directing us.
Nori Nao |
Nori nodded in agreement, "I agree that we should continue to explore. Hopefully, the residents wont mind that too much. As for those money grubbing types..." she trailed off as she thought, "They may make requests, but we hold the power when we have what they want. We just have to leverage it." She peered down the paths, "Now which one haven't we taken yet?"
DM ShadowBloodmoon |
Before leaving this room and heading back the way you came, you notice there is one door you hadn't been through yet, but four of the kobolds following behind you encourage you to keep moving. You head back, all the way to where the well was and then where the spiders were. The kobolds remain in the room you found them in. Beyond the spider room you are back in the hallway and you know this hallway will either lead you out, back to the big empty room or to the Library.
