Nergi seems perplexed when looking at the top of the pyramid. "What an odd design for a chimney. Is that a pair of snakes or those legless dragons they draw here?"
After Ando's note, she gives the hut another look and seems deep in thought for a while. "Hmm ... That could work, I suppose."
She notices the smoke, and draws her rapier.
"A fire, perhaps? We should investigate."
Ando Gallonica |
I think that's the soldiers camp says Ando, still distracted examining the chimney. We should probably stay well away given how protective they are of these places.
GM Chie |
While examining around the chimney, there is one oddly flagstone that is perfectly square where the others are irregularly shaped and placed at odd angles. A small seam is barely visible around the edges of the stone.
Ando Gallonica |
Ando hunkers down near the flagstone and mutter a quick detect magic spell. What do we have here? Maybe a place hiding some old secret?
He examines it to see if it is trapped and then steps back to let the others also have a look.
Take 10 on perception for 21
Tenibri |
Tenibri cautions others about his abilities. "I've never been an expert with traps; I generally leave that for others. But I'm happy to take a look."
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Ayo of the Radiant Eyes |
Ayo has darkvision, so she didn't need to purchase a spell
Ayo moves to the front to add another pair of eyes.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Nergi Khalka |
Nergi follows towards the stone pyramid and walks towards the top, quietly observing the flagstone from a distance.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
"I have almost zero experience with complicated mechanical devices.", she states, then turns towards the pathfinders to see their faces.
"It doesn't seem special in any way. Apart from the shape and polish, that is. Am I missing something?"
GM Chie |
The stone itself has a faint aura of Abjuration, and doesn't appear to be trapped in any way. Poking around the seams of the stone reveal stony grooves that might function as handles.
After a bit of pulling and straining (a Strength check that can be made easily given a bit of time) reveals 12 canisters with pointed caps of varying shades of grey. In a cramped tien script, the canisters are labeled, with two canisters of each of the following colors: Red, Blue, Orange, Yellow, White, and Violet. Looking at the bottom of each of these tubes is a 6 inch long cord, stiff and tightly wound.
Nergi Khalka |
The halfling observes the canisters for a while, clearly with no idea what she is looking at.
"A fuse cord, perhaps? But there's no green canister. Should we combine blue and yellow for this "green fire" we are interested in?"
Ando Gallonica |
Ando carefully scans the nook then begins gently removing the items. Given the guards are so close I don't think we should go creating letters of green fire in the sky right here. Lets secure these and search the rest of the site before experimenting with them.
Xiǎo Qīngwā |
Secure them with me. I can try to stay out of sight while you finish looking.
Nergi Khalka |
"You're probably right, but ... perhaps it needs to be put into the dragon-chimney-thing to operate properly. We can always ask one of those sentries.", Nergi rambles.
Ando Gallonica |
I don't think we want to ask the sentries Nergi, we aren't really supposed to be here and they might get upset. Lets have a look around first
Ando will start a bit of a circuit of the broken down station, looking for a way inside or anything else of interest here.
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22
Nergi Khalka |
Nergi gives Ando a smiling grin.
"I never said anything about them not being tied up during the questioning."
Tenibri |
Tenibri looks up sharply at Nergi's suggestion. "Weren't you the one who didn't want to do anything illegal at the school?" he questions with a smile. "Let's see what we can figure out on our own first," he chuckles, then joins Ando in a search of the old signal station.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
GM Chie |
Carefully looking around the ruins, you do not notice much other than the eerie silence, and the crumbling buildings built around the center plateau.
How Very Insightful Nergi! Perhaps now would be a good time to give it a shot!
Nergi Khalka |
"If I just wish to ask them something, and they prove to be hostile, something is clearly not right. I don't see anything that would forbid us from being here, do you? Not even a fence.", she replies to Tenibri without a second thought.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
What time of the day is it now? I might have lost track. Since we saw smoke earlier, I assume it's not night.
GM Chie |
Hey Nergi! It is night time, as the party got the sense that the guard abandoned the site after dark. Let's just call the distant smoke an error?
Nergi Khalka |
Ah! Alright, thanks.
Nergi takes a look around, and sees traces of light in sight.
"I don't think there's anyone here. Want to give it a go in the chimney-ish things?", she looks at the weird tube contraption from earlier, and points in its direction.
She adds "Or do you have any other ideas?" after a short period in thought.
I feel like I post way too often compared to others in the thread. I'll cut it down a notch.
Ando Gallonica |
OK, if we have some distance from those guards lets give the chimney thing a go.
Xiǎo Qīngwā |
If you would prefer Ignaru, I am smaller, and a natural climber. I do not want to stop you if you feel up to it, but I would probably fit more easily in such a tight space.
Tenibri |
Tenibri turns his attention to the chimneys, looking from the canisters to the chimneys and back.
_____________
How big are the chimney and the canisters? Is it obvious from their design how to load them, and does it require climbing? Could they be loaded at the base of the chimneys?
Also, Nergi, I don't think it's ever fair to call posting too much a problem. Keep having fun! :)
Nergi Khalka |
Based on the description, I assumed it was an stove-like thing with 2 interwiven chimneys heading towards the sky.
"Erm, I wouldn't climb into that. You might get badly burned.", Nergi states, picks up a pebble, and performs a few rapid hand motions. The pebble starts shining like a torch immediately, and she heads towards the canisters to pick up the blue and yellow ones (assuming they don't weigh too much) to get them ready.
Ando Gallonica |
Ok, lets experiment with these firework thingies then... says Ando stepping up to help load them into the tubes.
GM Red |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Okay, here we go! If I forget anything, don't be shy about letting me know.
With the canisters safely placed inside the chimneys, you pull the fusecord hanging out of both the blue and the yellow. A loud pop followed by a hot sizzle rings out as whatever chemicals they may be filled with begins to combine and react violently. Smoke billows out from the stone tubes, with the two rockets roaring into the sky, trailing sparks of blue and yellow. At a surprisingly low altitude, they simultaneously explode, blue and yellow flashes combining into sizzling green. The green sparks coalesce and twist in the dark like a thousand fireflies moving together to form enormous words written in Tien.
You recognize the green characters as the Dragon Empires' Zodiacal symbol of the Dog, a constellation well-known to Tian Xia's astrologers
Ando Gallonica |
Ando takes hastily scribbled notes of the Tien symbols for study at a later date.
Ando speaks Tien
Tenibri |
"Hmmm, Dog?" Tenibri wonders aloud. "I guess that's the astrological sign, huh?" He sees Ando noting it down, and nods his head.
"So what do you think that means for us?"
___________
Does Tian-Xia use astrological signs to mark the years similar to how China does it here? If so, what year are we in currently?
Xiǎo Qīngwā |
Xiao just looks at the pretty lights and gives a sort of frown.
Though my sifu was Tien, he had never thought me worthy of learning the language. Maybe if I try my best, one day the Pathfinder Society will teach me.
Nergi Khalka |
Welcome and thanks for helping out, Red!
Nergi observes the activation and the final result of the alchemical craftsmanship with a dropped jaw. She doesn't look down before the spectacular is over.
"Fascinating. But what does it mean?"
She looks down again only to notice Ando scribbling something and others discussing.
Ignaru |
Ignaru looks up at the sign in the sky while he silently contemplates.
What does the dog from the zodiac have to do with this.
GM Red |
Indeed, Tian-Xia uses constellations to mark the year, and within that year, constellations rise and fall by the month and hour. Tians use the zodiac to mark the progression of time. As for what year we're currently in, the Inner Sea uses 2700 + current real life year, while the Dragon Empires use 5200 + current real life year. It is 7217 in Tian Xia! I don't have a clear indication of when in time the scenario actually takes place.
As you examine the flittering flakes decorate the sky with foreign words, the pieces begin to break apart and settle to the ground. As they do, some of the individual characters unexpectedly retain their form.
Upon coming to rest on the nearby flagstones, the burning green characters begin to move erratically, taking on more humanoid-like shapes. You watch on as the flakes come together to form four angry-looking elementals - two of them smaller then the others - who blast the air with treacherous roars as they rear up to attack!
"ወንድሞች ከመታገያው ነፃ ወጥተዋል. ጠባቂዎቹን ግደሉ!"
Finally free from our prison, brothers. Slay the captors immediately! Burn them to the ground!

The elemental takes a swift kick in the torso from Ignaru and stumbles back with the force of the blow. As it starts to regain its footing, Xiao tosses a dart at its head, causing the creature to fall on its back, its green flames suddenly extinguished.
A tremor rings out from the opposite end of the building as one of the larger elemental charges forward with its fist over its head, attempting to pummel Ayo.

If Tenibri would also like to post with Ando, Nergi, and Ayo, that's fine with me and could help keep things flowing. We'll just retcon if needed.
Ando Gallonica |
Just a reminder, I should have everyone life linked so if you have taken 5 or more damage you heal 5 at the start of my turn. It doesn't look like anyone has yet so...
Ando takes a step back and drops into a trance. He reaches out one hand towards the Sapphire Elemental to the south and begins to quickly mutter a spell. Tendrils of shadowy energy stretch from him towards the creature, wrapping around its torso, as his mind and its touch, kill, kill, kill
Ando casts murderous command at the Sapphire elemental, DC16 will save or on its next turn it attacks it's nearest ally
Tenibri |
Tenibri steps off the pyramid, drawing a flask of acid as he moves. He mutters simple words of power, "acida plaŭdo!" causing a small globe of acid to form, peeling of energy from the flask. He motions with his hand, which sends the acid hurling towards one of the elementals.
Move: 20', drawing flask of acid during move
Standard: Cast Acid Splash with a flask of acid as an Alchemical Power Component, targetting Elemental Ruby
Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Damage, acid: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
You fire a small orb of acid at the target. You must succeed on a ranged touch attack to hit your target. The orb deals 1d3 points of acid damage. This acid disappears after 1 round.
A common flask of acid has many uses as a power component, particularly with attack spells.
Acid Splash (F): The spell deals +1 point of damage.
Tenibri is moving and targeting the elemental that could act before his action. Please adjust his movement based on the Red Elemental's action so that he can fire the acid splash spell from the maximum of the spell's 30 ft range, if possible.
Nergi Khalka |
I assume stairs are considered difficult terrain for purposes of making a 5ft step. If so, see mechanics.
Nergi attempts to quickly move past the elemental without being hit, to provide a distraction from above. Once she manages to even out the height difference with the clever use of elevation, she looks the elemental in the eye and screams "What are you supposed to mean?!" while smacking it with her rapier.

Ayo strides around the elemental to its far side, drawing her katana on the move.
Ayo has escape route with solo tactics, so she can move without provoking in this case. She remains within Nergi's threatened area the whole time
She uses her movement to counterbalance a swing with the katana on the elemental.
Attack with Mwk Cold Iron Katana: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17

I won't be picky here and I think I'd be okay with 5 foot steps on the stairs. I did have my elemental charge up them, after all. :)
Will Sapphire attack its ally?: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
The sapphire elemental takes on a shadowy black hue as its mind is captivated with the desire to kill its allies. Nergi leaps up and carves a precise gash across Emerald's face - the wound looks something like a second mouth. Ayo can't quite figure out what these are, but nonetheless jabs the creature in the back with her katana.
"ከእንግዲህ ወዲያ እስራት አልኖረንም. ዛሬ እዚህ ትሞታላችሁ, ቆዳዎቻችን በሚሠራው በእሳት ነበልባል ውስጥ ይቃጠላሉ!"
Slam, flank: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 2 = 10
Elemental Ruby comes lumbering up the stairs, stopping just next to Ayo as it lunges forward to attack, but she's much too agile and dodges its fist.
Tenibri lobs a ball of acid at the Ruby elemental's head, both extinguishing some of its flames and melting its skin at the same time.
Slam: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Then, Sapphire runs up the hill and punches its elemental ally - or tries to, since its fist instead slams into a flagstone, shattering it.

GM Red |
Ignaru drops an elbow slam on Emerald's head while Xiao's dart flies over the structure and lands among the rubble on the other side.
Emerald turns to Ignaru, roaring in his face, and unleashes a pair of punches.

Slam: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 221d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Burn: 1d6 ⇒ 3
The second punch connects with Ignaru's jaw, singing his skin. He quickly douses the fire before he's set alight.
Ignaru will heal 5 on Ando's turn... Which happens to be now! :)
Fire in the Sky (bold is up): Xiǎo, Ignaru (-3), Elemental Emerald (-15), Ando, Nergi, Ayo, Elemental Ruby (-3), Tenibri, Elemental Sapphire and Goldenrod (Dead)
Ando Gallonica |
Ando winces as his own flesh begins to crisp while Ignaru's heals.
He reaches out once again to touch the mind of the sapphire elemental, urging it to strike its allies after which he swiftly strikes himself several times in the torso.
Is sapphire one of the medium ones, it is unclear from the map. Casting murderous command again, looking at affect a medium rather than small one. DC16 will save. He then uses healers way as a swift action to heal 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (2, 4) + 2 = 8 HP from himself.
