oops, "communal share language" Hmm.. You can all understand what is said in sylvan, but cannot seem to speak the language back, thus are forced to rely on translators.

Stuff to Consider:
Share language: For 24 hours the target can read, understand, and communicate to the best of its ability in any one language which you already know.

Comprehend Languages: You can understand the spoken words of creatures or read otherwise incomprehensible written messages. The ability to read does not necessarily impart insight into the material, merely its literal meaning. The spell enables you to understand or read an unknown language, not speak or write it.

Shaharazad: Languages Common, Ignan, Kelish, Osiriani, Osiriani, Ancient

I would not believe comprehend languages lets you know a language in the traditional sense, so I am not sure it would work with share language? I am torn. For simplicity, since you have at least 3 translators, you can all understand the conversation, but cannot speak back, since what is being shared (since Shahrazad doesn't know Sylvan) is the ability to understand the literal translation of the language.

Unless I am missing something reading over the spells?

I was hoping to use share language to allow Mistress Koi to speak Common. If I cast it on her I can give her one of the languages that Shah knows (Common), which is why I asked Owl and Albatross to tell the 'guardian' that what I was casting was not going to hurt her. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

The walls of the subterranean vaults are masonry, with 10-foot ceilings (except where noted, such as this very room). Simple wooden doors lead into each room, although only the doors leading to two are closed (as indicated on the map, see the western wing). The Understacks are unlit and most rooms are treated as either shallow or deep bogs.

Flooding from the library above has turned this storage chamber into a treacherous bog. Rising above the black lake, the flat tops of many rows of shelves create a makeshift maze of causeways. A spiral staircase descends from above, a deluge of water cascading down the steps. Four narrow corridors channel rivers of seawater off into the darkness.

The floor of this room is flooded to the point of being a deep bog, and the ceiling is 15 feet high. The shelves here are broad enough to act as walkways, requiring no Acrobatics check to traverse while moving at half speed and only a successful DC 5 Acrobatics check to walk along at full speed.

Dalangi, you can be where you are, but you would need a swim check as this counts as deep bog, and you are small size.

Bog Info:

Bogs: If a square is part of a shallow bog, it has deep mud or standing water of about 1 foot in depth. It costs 2 squares of movement to move into a square with a shallow bog, and the DC of Acrobatics checks in such a square increases by 2.

A square that is part of a deep bog has roughly 4 feet of standing water. It costs Medium or larger creatures 4 squares of movement to move into a square with a deep bog, or characters can swim if they wish. Small or smaller creatures must swim to move through a deep bog. Tumbling is impossible in a deep bog.

The water in a deep bog provides cover for Medium or larger creatures. Smaller creatures gain improved cover (+8 bonus to AC, +4 bonus on Reflex saves). Medium or larger creatures can crouch as a move action to gain this improved cover. Creatures with this improved cover take a –10 penalty on attacks against creatures that aren't underwater.

Deep bog squares are usually clustered together and surrounded by an irregular ring of shallow bog squares.

Both shallow and deep bogs increase the DC of Stealth checks by 2. [emphasis mine]

I didn't have a chance to glance at the map earlier, but it now appears to me that the vulture has reach and Quillen would need to move to another pillar/bookcase to strike it. In this case, he'd Acrobatics over while making another check to try to avoid the AoO.

Indeed, I run initiative order like this, with little recaps so folks see the GM has the actions correct. I don't know the AC of our foes, otherwise I wouldn't have posted the ACs of attacks made by the PCs.

Initiative Summary:

Round 1
24 Vulture : Bites Quillen for 14 dmg
20 Quillen : Acrobats to pillar, stabs vulture for 15 dmg
19 Dalangi : Flounders around in the water
18 Samaeon : Retrieves a scroll, moves to Zahaz
17 Worm : Flies to Zahaz, bites for 3 dmg, AoO'd by Q vs AC18 for 18 dmg
16 Caith : Spiked armor vs worm AC15 for 8 dmg
13 Shah : Inspire courage for +2/+2
12 Fuzzfoot : TBD
11 Gob : Telekinetic fist vs worm AC20 touch for 4 dmg
3 Zahaz : Claws bird for 6 dmg vs AC25 and 10 dmg vs AC27 (note: probably 4 higher from inspire courage)

Still Up: Fuzzfoot!

And a bump for Fuzzfoot (now that I see he's the only that hasn't acted)...

Fuzzfoot is shamed for needing to be bumped... :) Lot's of travel last week, but back to normal schedule now.

"So, what was that thing? Should we be trying to retrieve it?"

Fuzzfoot looks for a stick or pole that he can use to poke in the water.

There are no sticks or posts in the water nearby for Fuzzfoot.

The giant bird realizes it cannot stand long against the swashbuckler, and flaps backwards five feet before again attempting to peck at the halfling. Quillen

Quillen leaps from pillar to bookcase, seeking to press his attack at the oversized bird.

I assume DC 10 or 15 to leap from the pillar to the bookcase?

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (4) + 13 = 17

"Ohh-ha-hnmh! No zo fast, bird!"

The halfling collapses his body in a similar form to his earlier stretches before leaping ahead. At the last moment as he lands on his feet, his blade swooshes out in search of the creature's heart.

Shah continues her story, "As it would happen, on his third try the man pulled up a heavy glass urn capped in copper. Hoping to find treasure inside, he opened it to find trapped inside a jinn which flew out to reveal its full form, as tall as a mountain and with nostrils like jugs...."

Continue inspire as a free action.

She moves down the stairs but, seeing the water and not wanting to swim, instead blows a blast on her flute and creates a solid note, which she then grabs on to, floating above the water.

The dead bird once again claims his corpse status, and falls into the water with a great splash. The combined efforts of the Pathfinders was just far too much for the creature.

End Combat

The Pathfinders are awarded the rare opportunity to sample the odor of a long dead corpse steeping in a fetid pool of water. Although not anything vaguely relating to pleasant, it is a memory that is all but guaranteed to last through the ages.

"Some sort of musty shambler created by the berk that's messing around down here. Who cares." Zahaz crouches down to nudge the corpse a little further into the water, then washes his claws.

When he's done, he stands up and looks around the area and points back to the left. "I say we go that way."

Shahrazad continues flying just above the water, holding on to her solid note.

If anyone needs healing (and has a wand), feel free to roll it and assume I used your wand on you. If you don't have a wand let me know and I'll gladly share some charges to keep you alive.

Quillen nods at the bird floating in the water and sheathes his weapon before spinning on his heel and focusing his attention on Shahrazad.

As he leaps each bookcase and pillar, he resumes his full standing position before springing ahead each time, like a tiny toy soldier. As he finally comes to stand by the ifrit, he whips out a wooden wand and presents it to the tale-teller.

He claps his hands, spinning again to survey the room in which they just fought.

"Now, where is ze next clue, and where is ze next door or corridor to ze next room?"

Quillen begins leaping about the room in search of anything to aid their cause.

If the quick search bears no fruit, he'd move to Take 10 and then Take 20 respectively, if the others allow such a thorough investigation.
