Gale Mistwalker |
"How rude. Shall we follow?"
Gale will place herself firmly behind Ethendril, backing him up with her spear
Sir Dydimus |
Sir Dydimus doesn't answer because he is already running after them calling, Guys, Wait up! We want to talk you you!
I moved Dydimus 30ft on the map. if nothing stops him he'll continue to follow the kobolds 30 more ft into the next room.
GM Engleaktig |
I've updated the map with their actual locations for Dydimus. Feel free to move yourself wherever you'd like.
These kobolds are clearly afraid of you. And angry. Perhaps they recall you from before?
As Dydimus runs into the hallway, he notices a dragon-head shaped sculpture. As he passes in front of it, in pursuit of the kobolds, he hears a clicking sound from the dragon's mouth. But, nothing happens (that he can tell).
Ethendril h'Caramore |
"Dydimus!" Ethendril calls out. "Do take care not to run into any traps! We do want to engage in diplomacy, but not careless behavior!"
As he nears the dragon-head statue, he examines it for any signs of traps.
perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
Hotspur the Unsettled |
Can someone move me to keep up with the chase? I'm on a mobile device that won't open the map. I'd like to stay roughly a square behind Ethendril.
"Sir Dydimus! If they don't speak your language you may be scaring them! Please, let's think of a way to be less threatening."
Gale Mistwalker |
Gale will move up to the statue and examine it casting Detect Magic. Rolls if needed:
spellcraft: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
perception: 1d20 ⇒ 15
"You have such interesting diplomacy techniques, Sir Dydimus. I am shocked the political wing has not snatched you up.
Hotspur the Unsettled |
Hotspur runs forward and quickly moves her fingers in front of the light of her Wayfinder to project shadow puppets on the wall in an attempt to distract the kobolds...
Attempt to use the fascinate Bard performance ability. She could only affect one of them. He has a DC 14 will save. Will negates. If it fails, it will "sit quietly and observe the performance for as long as the bard maintains it." While fascinated the target is -4 to all skill checks made as reactions, including perception. A potential threat allows for a new saving throw, while an obvious threat (drawing a weapon, casting a spell) breaks the effect.
Never tried it before, but hey, who knows.
GM Engleaktig |
Are you sure you want to do that? The text of fascinate includes the following:
"Any potential threat, such as a hostile creature approaching, allows the fascinated creature a new saving throw against the fascinating effect. Any obvious threat, such as someone drawing a weapon, casting a spell, or aiming a ranged weapon at the fascinated creature, automatically breaks the effect."
To them, you guys are hostile threats. You're in their home. Two scenarios ago, you killed several of their number.

That's true. I'll save the shadow puppets for another day.
Hotspur will try to cast Sleep, but that's a full round action, I think, so it won't go off until her turn comes around again.Gale Mistwalker |
Gale will move into position with her spear behind Hotspur and Dydimus.
"I am sure to learn something watching your communication techniques"
Hotspur the Unsettled |
Should the Sleep spell manage to go off, it is DC14.
Gale Mistwalker |
On Gale's turn she will step up behind Dydimus and take a poke with her spear at the still concious kobold
attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
potential_damage: 1d8 ⇒ 1
"I think I understand your methods...am I doing this right?"
Olga-Warpriest |
Nice dragon head. Olga glances at it as she walks slowly by it. Anyone have a heal ready for when Dydimus needs it?
Olga will double move to get in to the room next to Gale.
Hotspur the Unsettled |
"I thought we were trying to convince them we didn't mean them any harm."
Hotspur the Unsettled |
Hotspur rushes forward and tries to wrestle with the kobold in an attempt to save it from getting hurt or killed.
Combat maneuver grapple attempt: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Not sure if you can Acrobatics out of an AoO brought on by a combat maneuver but I'll include the check anyway.
acrobatics: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
I positioned myself adjacent to the kobold, but if he is not the one who is conscious, just flip me to the other side of Sir Dydimus. It should have been the same amount of movement either way.
Sir Dydimus |
NO! No, stabbing them! Hotspur has the right idea. Lets Subdue these guess, with out hurting them, and we'll try and talk to them. The halfling moves in with the gunslinger and attempts to grab one of the kobold's arms.
Aid CMB: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
Anyone know what this guys is trying to say?
Sir Dydimus |
Oh good you do speak common! Dydimus says cheerily as he takes a the kobold's spear and tosses it to the side. Sorry about the the inconvenience but we really would just like a word. You see we are here to try and find a friend of ours. Well I say friend but I've actually never meet the man. He happens to be belong to the same organization as me and my friends. Oh how rude of me! I am Sir Dydimus of Eastgate. The woman who has you pinned is Hotspur. Say Hello to the nice Koblod Hotspur. We'll finish introductions in a moment. So, we are looking for a friend of our, did I already say that? Anyway, we heard that he might have been through here recently. We also hear that he might have caused your tribe some trouble. Now I know you have every reason not to trust us but I assure you we just want to set things right and look for our friend. Wouldn't it be nice to just put this hole mess behind us? You wouldn't have to throw stones at us and we wouldn't have to sit on you! I would really like it if we could be friends and we could all enjoy a nice apple biscuit together. So what do you say? So, Mr. Kobold can we discuss this like civilized individuals?
GM Engleaktig |
ROFL! :-D
The kobold looks at Hotspur: [b]"What him say?"[/ooc]
Hotspur "translates" Dydimus to "broken common" and then those who wish to may make another diplomacy check (or other social skill check).
If you're rolling, please RP what you're saying/doing to influence the kobold. It is safe to assume that his starting attitude is 'hostile.'
Olga-Warpriest |
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Halfling makes good apple biscuit. Eat, enjoy, sit. Good good food.
She'll grab an apple biscuit out of Dydimus's pack and try to waft the scent of somehow still warm apple biscuits toward the Kobold.
Ethendril h'Caramore |
Ethendril smiles warmly at the kobold.
"We are here to make peace with your tribe," the paladin implores. "Please...we do not want to hurt you, and want to fix the harm done to your tribe."
diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
Sir Dydimus |
Do I need to make a check?
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
Crude I'll use my reroll:
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 9 + 3 = 26
that's better!
Hotspur the Unsettled |
Hotspur releases the kobold so he can eat the biscuit.
Hotspur the Unsettled |
Hotspur confers with her friends: "Maybe he knows something about Sharrowsmith, or can introduce us to someone in charge. I'd ask, but my diplomatic overtures tend to end in gunfire."
Ethendril h'Caramore |
Ethendril nods at Hotspur's suggestion.
"Most dragon-like kobold, we seek only to ensure our companion's release. Take us to him, and you will be the hero that secured apple biscuits for your whole tribe!" the paladin assures him.
Do we still have the Chest of Infinite Apple Biscuit Production?
GM Engleaktig |
Do we still have the Chest of Infinite Apple Biscuit Production?
No. :-( It belongs to Ambrus Valsin.
How many: 1d100 ⇒ 76
However, I'm happy to say that, thanks to residual magic, you somehow have access to an extradimensional space with 76 hot, fresh, wonderful biscuits!
Ethendril h'Caramore |
"We also have a number of apple biscuits to give your tribe...if you like them, that is," Ethendril adds.
diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Cornelia d'Malheur |
Hey all, I am back now. I just need to update Cornelia and make a few purchases if that's okay. And thank you all for your well-wishes. It was a rough week, but one positive thing that happened as a result is that my mother and her siblings seem closer than they have been for many years.
Cornelia sits back an allows the others to work their diplomatic angle with the kobold. She is content to munch on a delicious apple biscuit in the mean time...
Ethendril h'Caramore |
"Very well," Ethendril says upon seeing the creature's hesitation.
"Tell us where we can find our friend, and we will let you and your friend go with an apple biscuit for your trouble."
GM Engleaktig |
"Don't know. Tall mammal come here. Him cause earthquake. Many kobolds die. Him probably also upset our golden god. So we retaliate against mammals. Attack people who dig in earth. Then you come. Trespass on our land. Slay many kobolds. Then you leave. We start picking up pieces. Then you come back. Trespass on our land again. Knock out my friend. Me want to kill you. But, you smooth talkers. Give biscuit. So, whatever."
He's telling the truth.
Hotspur the Unsettled |
"Besides giving you apple biscuits, how can we make friends with Kobolds?"asks Hotspur. "We would like to be your friends, too."
GM Engleaktig |
"That not up to me. Me stereotypical racist kobold. All mammals inferior. Maybe our boss Naktok might know. Our homes are to the west, and the temple is north from there. You can't go to the southern part of this place anymore because a corridor collapsed. Collapsed because other mammal caused earthquake. Did I tell you that him kill many, many kobolds? You also kill many kobolds. Me not understand why we be friends with you. But you sure talk smooth."
Hotspur the Unsettled |
Hotspur turns to her friends. "Should we try to see Naktok? It could be dangerous, but it might be our only chance to set things right with the Kobolds."
Cornelia d'Malheur |
LOL!
Cornelia feels uneasy about heading deeper into kobold territory with their apparent title of kobold slayers... "Perhaps we could bring our little friend along here should we decide to head further into their homes... We were only defending ourselves against an aggressive attack by your friends. We did not want to kill any kobolds, we are simply seeking one of own who has wandered far into this region." She says to the little fellow and then turns back to her comrades. "If we decide this course of action, perhaps we should have him come along to show that we are not here to kill them as evident by these two still living. We can even show that they are not our prisoners?"
Ethendril h'Caramore |
"Very well," Ethendril says. "Tell us your name and you will be free to go. We will go meet your leader...this Naktok, and perhaps make peace with him. We want to set things right..." he adds.
The old paladin stands and prepares to go.
"I think this has proven we can deal with these...at least for a time. Perhaps we can discover what caused this earthquake and make things right. It sounds as if Sharrowsmith has been through here, at least."
Ethendril h'Caramore |
"And in common? What does that mean? Oh...wait...I think I have some background in your language. Does that mean Difficult to Pronounce? Quite the name!"
