"Everyone I am casting a spell that will make noise like a dog barking and another that will make balls of light. Do not panic none of it will hurt you."

Obed will make sure what he just said was translated into whatever primative language the porters smack their lips to and struggle to communicate with. He also makes sure the person who is tending to our dilapidated elephant is aware of what will be happening so they can handle the beast.

Ghost Sound to sound like dogs barking. Dancing Lights to fly around and spook them off, taking care to keep the illusions away from the elephant.

If dog barking does nothing then change it to a massive lion roar.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The porters look at each other, Did he just say that?

One of them complies: Attention, attention everyone! The great sorcerer will engage in a display of illusory magic. The fellow wants to make sure we don't panic, and (wait for it) 'Go all native' on him. As a group they laugh uproariously, grab a cup of tea and a biscuit, and settle in to watch the show.

Obed concentrates on his illusions to help herd the monkeys away from the camp.

Three natives hold up judges' signs: 9.8, 9.7, and 7. The 7 is from the elderly elephant. ;-P

Obed makes a giant mouse illusion. The monkeys follow it out of the camp. The elephant, as an immediate action, craps on the other two judges. ;-P

Silver Crusade

OK. Between their efforts, the party (peacefully) drives away the monkeys!

The hunting party returns to the main trail and continues winding through the forest / jungle. After a bit of travel, the old elephant suddenly panics and starts to stamp it's feet.

The hunting party continues along a jungle trail. Suddenly, multiple snakes hiss. At the sight of the snakes, the old elephant panics and begins stamping about wildly, threatening to shake the howdah (it's like a cart on the elephant's back) off its back. The mahout (elephant driver) falls from his seat and takes cover in the jungle.

The two nobles shout conflicting orders to the PCs. Count Matsanda asks for help controlling the elephant, while Baron Rudyahm orders the party to protect the porters from the larger snake.

"Old animal like that, we're lucky the Count kept it under control and it didn't trample the porters."

Silver Crusade

It was going to hurt you the very next turn. Good timing!

A few hours after their encounter with the snake, you reach a place where a small stream crosses the trail. Baron Rudyahm explains "This is the stream we were followed when the tiger ambushed us 5 years ago. This is where they should break off from the trail to find the tiger’s territory."

Seeing how poorly the elephant handled trouble, and knowing how dangerous it could be to have it trample through the party, Count Matsanda the porters take the elephant half a day farther down the trail to a hunting lodge outpost.

The jungle opens up into a wide grassy clearing bisected by a shallow, burbling stream. In the center of the clearing lies the partially eaten carcass of a gaur. Its throat has been torn open, and the grass all around the dead bison is covered in dried, sticky blood.

The Baron to the party: This is where we should set up our ambush for the tiger. This kill is fresh, which means the tiger will likely return to finish its meal later this very night!

The aging hunter instructs the party on how to set up machans—a type of portable hunter’s blind—in the trees around the clearing. The machans are mounted 20 feet up in the lower branches of the trees and camouflaged by branches and leaves. A machan can hold up to three medium creatures comfortably, though it is not sturdy enough to provide effective cover during combat.

Once the machans are in place, the baron directs the party to climb into the machans and wait for the tiger to return. He warns the group that they should avoid descending once night falls, lest they wish to come face to face with the angry tiger in the dark.

Ascending the rope ladders to a machan requires a successful DC 10 Climb check, and climbing the tree without a ladder instead requires a successful DC 15 Climb check.

The Count isn't with you. He took the elephant away so that it would not trample you.

As night falls, the jungle is completely dark. Only the clearing remains dimly lit thanks to the light of the moon. Baron Rudyahm forbids you from employing any other forms of light until they spot the beast, lest they give away their presence.

An hour after night falls:
